Noticed it with Angry Birds, only cuz I played it for say 45mins-1hr. I'd had a long day and couldn't be bothered moving, lol.
Anyway, the phone, including the screen was quite hot. Is this normal due to the length of time I was playing the game? Or should it stay cool after that long?
Thanks!
yes that is normal. you have to think of it like a PC, the processor is running a little harder on a game as well as your screen these things produce a large amount of heat and seeing as phones unlike PC's do not have heat sync fans or any form of cooling they do tend to get warm, if you are playing for a long period of time what i have done is just set the phone on a surface proper up so that the added heat from your body does not add to it, another tip is if you have it plugged in and charging the battery heat does add to it. you never want to over heat your phone it can cause damage to the processor.
Hope i have helped a bit.
So the best thing to do would be to limit the amount of time I play a game? I can deal with that, I'm not a hardcore mobile gamer... I have a PS3 and two computers, lol.
How would I know if there was any damage to the CPU? :/
Huh. It felt warm after about 10mins, maybe less, of play?
Sorry for the double post.
Try a new rom..

No, bollocks. If it gets too hot it will shut down or reboot. There is safety mechanisms in the hardware . You would need to try really hard to damage the cpu (eg: insane overvolting)

yeh. just had to state the obvious. cost me a fair cop of money this so wanna make sure stay's in good health.
by the way. is there a problem with my accelerometer? when i first got my phone it was all the time, now it's only every so often, but in games, mainly angry birds (as i play that more than other games on my phone) i'm unable to control the birds whilst the phone is in landscape mode. i have to switch it to portrait, use start taking control of the birds again, and then switching it back.
does that sound like an app issue?
sorry for the double post, but anyone have any ideas?
Download an app to test the functionality. I forget which one I used to use try z-devicetest
Hello, im on jellybam and sometimes gta vc running like hell goog in 35-45fps on 1ghz cpu and 400 gpu. But sometimes it lagging i get fps drop to20-30fps. And i dont understand why. I kill all apps. Maybe is because temperature? Playing is 41+ C . Or what. With antutu i get almost 10k score :/
Now I just noticed strange thing. When I on battery FPS meter shows me 20-25FPS . But When I connect charger FPS jumps to 35-45 FPS like normal BUT game feels same like it was on battery with 20-25FPS. Anybody knows problem?

Im on JellyBam. on "Bad" kernel . In benchmark it is very good, but now it started sometimes laggy. especialy when I put to charge phone. for expample I use my phones without any lag, battery get drain to like 10 percent and then I turn off games, put to charge and then when I turn on games it start lag.
sometimes the phone lags when charger is connected and affects the touch sensitivity of the phone as we;;. try the charger on a different socket. This has helped me in the past.

HEllo Im new here ,, this is a stupid question but I just wanna ask the optimal temp of smartphone because my s advance temp looks kinda hot specially the upper part of the phone ranging from 37 to 41 degrees celcious when opening aps and games,, this is definitely hotter than the first time i bought it,,
Its normal I think..
I mean its normal and OK until the phone actually stops responding and/or behaves abnormally.... And you will get a message/notification that it is overheated and will automatically turn off (or reboot) - I'm just guessing because I never saw it on my phone but I once saw it "partially" on my friend's S3 once...
One more thing... The phone usually heats up a bit while its charging.... The same thing applies when you are playing games or browsing the internet for a long time...

mmm.. yeah my phone does not exp. force shutdown or reboot yet so I think its fine for now ..
I google a little and i found out that overheating is one of the sign of battery problem..
Im a heavy user like Im using it almost everyday(playing games etc.) so Im suspecting it might be a hardware problem or maybe BAttery problem, and I hope it just a battery probem but my phone is just 7 months old, and phone battery should last a year or two, but considering my heavy use it might be.,, so Im gonna try to replace my battery Thank you anyway for your reply and good luck

Hmm.. its upto you, whether you want to change your battery or not... and yes too high temperature will reduce its overall "life".. but I still think both your phone and your current battery is ok because smartphones (usually the ones with more than one CPU) usually heat up a bit when it is used for a long time

YEs it maybe still on good condition, but in a 1 hour palytime at the temp. of 41 °C is very uncomfortable to me. this is like holding a child with a super high grade fever with your hands,, and it applys to all games i played.,
By the way may I ask what is your phone highest temp. during playing games??

Im using the app Du Battery Saver it has a notification that contains a battery temperature I think this is pretty much the phone temp itself. I used diiferent "thermo app thing" the result is pretty much the same so I think its accurate,,

Ok Thanks...
My current phone temperature is 32 degrees... I just used it to talk with my Dad..
So yeah I'm pretty sure if I play GTA VC now that temp will rise to +40 degrees...
On my P model the temerature never (i mean NEVER) rised beyond the level that it would feel uncomftable... I think your phone !might! be faulty but I'm not sure about it
Install a software to monitor the life and temp of the battery
Hi, I'm planning buy a XSP. I found on the internet a few battery test but no with gaming on mobile. I read from one person that gaming on this phone draining battery very quickly. Is it right? Can someone post you experience? For example if you play Real Racing 3 or some other high usage game for an one hour, how much it drain battery? Thanks

battery drain is high during game play
Device does/will get hot while playing after 10-15 minds hence battery drain.....
The device getting hot is OK if you are needing a hand warmer on a cold day.

Thanks . and about hot... I have now LG Optimus 4X HD and I think that this phone from LG is hotter in gaming and others
Yes the phone gets warm when gaming, but not excessive (like my old SGS2).
Battery goes down faster when gaming, but I wouldn't call it a drain. This is usual for all phones.
What I really value with SP here are 2 things:
1) it plays heavy graphical games very smoothly and
2) in standby stamina mode the phone almost doesn't use battery power.
Well my Nexus 6 has started getting really hot even with moderate usage. Its not like it burns my hand but it gets uncomfortable at times and it worries me.
If I'm just browsing on chrome, checking out Facebook, or playing a simple game like Crossy Roads, the phone starts getting really warm and after a while its really hot. Even when on WiFi it becomes hot. I have to close all the apps and leave it for a while so that it cools down. I don't have a lot of apps open all the time and I have a lot of memory remaining.
I can't really figure out what's the problem, any suggestions?
Thanks.

+1 Facebook application consumes extreme amounts of battery and system resources. That would be my first suggestion as well. Uninstall Facebook and see if you notice an improvement.
It would be easier to suggest something if you let us know if you are stock or have been playing with roms/ kernels and their settings.... I have seen other phones get hot with too aggressive kernel settings.....
first off, what cpu temperature ate you talking about? secondly, feel does not give you am accurate temperature reading, all its does is show you if something is hotter, or cooler, than your hand. thirdly, your phone can get up to 99C in temp. at 100C, the boiling point of water, your phone would automatically shut down to cool off. now while using your phone, especially when using the cpu hard, it will get hot. but that is normal. you own a quad core phone with a 2.65ghz cpu. do you really expwct it to stay cold?
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'll try uninstalling Facebook and getting back to you. I've already uninstalled Facebook Messenger.
My CPU temperature is around 41 degrees Celsius and when it gets warm to the point that its uncomfortable is around 58-60 degrees Celsius.
In know it has a really powerful cpu but I don't always want to be holding a device that is warm to the point that it becomes uncomfortable.
Also I haven't even attempted rooting or changing the kernels so its all stock.

58-60C is VERY normal, when using the phone. so maybe a powerful phone isnt right for you.
But is it normal to feel warm? Even though its powerful shouldn't it stay cool? Is this happening to every Nexus 6 user? Sorry for the influx of questions

again, feel osnt an accurate way to kudge temperature. if your hand is cooler, the phone will feel more hot. your phones temp also is dependent on the air temp around you. as if its warmer outside, then the phone will get warmer. but yea, every nexus can and will get that warm. and at times, will get even warmer! try plugging in to a charger and streaming a movie. in this situation, ive seen my phone hit 74C. but thats normal as well. unlike deaktop computers, our phones dont have fans blowing to keep the cpu cool. we rely on an inactive way to keep our phones cooler, so its normal for the more powerfully phones to get warm, and even hot.
Try this.
I was having overheating issues. When gaming, charging, or just about anything other than the phone at an idle. I cleared the cache in recovery. That's it. I did not uninstall anything or modify anything in any way. And now I do not have those issues. Is that what fixed it? I do not know. Will it work for anyone else? I do not know that either. But, I'm pretty sure that if you can clear the cache with your stock recovery, it won't hurt anything. Maybe you will get lucky and it works. Bonus benefit, battery life improved for me as well. Maybe 20% better. I hope it helps you as much as it did for me.
Good Luck.

if you are having "overheating" issues, then you are saying that your phone hits 100C constantly and reboot? if not, its not an "overheating" issue, its an issue with you and some heat.

No, what is odd is that I posted my experience with a similar issue on my Nexus 6 from at&t, and now I am responding to this.
But, fine.
I prefer not to beat around the bush. So, if you want to say it's not possible? Ok. that's cool. Think I am lying? That's fine as well. Heck I probably am. Just disregard the whole thing. It isn't important. at all. I wish I had something more meaningful to add. I'm starting to feel a little dirty from spamming up the thread with this. So I am happy to digress first man. You won. :good: :highfive: :victory:
And so sorry O.P. Didn't mean to push any buttons and junk up your thread.
Now that that's out of the way. Please try to have a good day.

lol! im not saying youre lying! seriously. im just saying that the behavior that you experienced is odd, considering thermal throttle being there. i actively disable thermal throttle every single time i boot up. and i try, really try, but have not been able to reach 100C on my n6. and i run my cpu at 3032mhz high and low cpu speed. now my nexus 5 reaches shutdown very easy, it takes seconds to get it there. my n6, no matter how hard i push, purposefully, i can not get it to reach 100C. now your reboot might have been something completely different, and you not reaching thermal shutdown. but i doubt you would have known that, because you would need a live cpu temp in your status bar to see if you hit thermal shutdown. and i doubt you have a cpu temp showing in your status bar. i do
If your phone is 55+C while you are not using it very intensely there's a problem.
I listen to music, watch videos, play some games like clash of clans and I never break 50 Celsius.

youre probably looking at the battery temp. battery temp is different. if your battery hits 60C, youll automatically shut down. everyone i know with a nexus 6 sees over 50C cpu temp rather often. well, depending how hard you are using the cpu, and the temp around you.

Well I can't tell you how hot it was getting. But when I played Star Wars Galactic Defender while charging it got really hot, almost too hot to hold. Although I am sure that what I felt was nothing near the boiling point of water, it was enough to make the phone restart. It got hot under the same circumstances with 5.0. Just not that hot. But after the 5.1 update it started getting much hotter. At the time I wouldn't put it on a charger at night because of the crazy heat. After the cache clearing things have been much better. It doesn't even get warm when fast charging.

Partly. Through normal operation with stock interactive governor I sit around 40-50 playing music, opening coc, etc. Phone never feels hot in hand.
When I'm idling or reading something or casually scrolling I'm always sitting 35-40 CPU temp.
Obviously if I crank it up and lock to 2.6GHz and run some CPU stresses I quickly get up to 75C  but that isn't normal operation. Relaxed operation when the CPU is idling should sit pretty low.

using the cpu lightly or it just sitting there wont get it hot at all. listening to music is using the cpu very lightly. if it gets hot just sitting there, then that is a problem. thats usually caused by a process getting "stuck" and the cpu staying a 100% active. so the heat in that situation would be a symptom, but not the problem.
