Unpredictable performance? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Sometimes my phone is very smooth, but every now and then it will suddenly act like a single core phone, this is particularly noticeable if I play a game, it will be smooth usually but when this happens it lags like hell, home stutters and multitasking problems are also present. I've tried everything, deleted system/bin/thermald and overheat control apk, lowered the go max speed load of the CPU, increased readahead size, changed to deadline scheduler... The list goes on! I'm on the latest JB firmware and have a locked BL, any roms that don't have these random lag spikes? Or any other fix? I'll even revert to ICS if its more stable, I did this on my LG before

how the hell is that possible?!!!!!!
i have the same issue, especially on JB
everytime i turn the phone on, i just HOPE to be the PERFORMANCE time!!!
sometimes it is SMOOTH, sometimes it lagges, especially in games
you know, having Performance governor is not a real solution, it will drain battery the worst way possible, we have to know the reason, since i've done whatever you said as well,EVERYTHING, and yes, when i put in performance mode, it's ok..
any idea about the culprit?

Just the GPU gov is performance, it doesn't really do much to battery. I use interactive on the CPU. So you're saying your issue wasn't there on ICS??

EGG ZAKT LY!!!
when i was on ICS, the games were amazing, no lag whatsoever to call ISSUE, but unfortunately, the lag was INSIDE OF OS, even the phonebook, dialer, messaging, all of the system apps, started slowly, but the gaming performance was awesome, on the other hand, in JB, the whole UI and OS is just smooth and beautiful, but games are awful
BTW, how do you modify GPU governor? i thought we could only change CPU

Well its settled, I'm moving to ICS to compare. Is there any ICS ROM where I can avoid using flashtool? Anyway about the GPU gov, use trickster mod kernel settings

the difference is quite HUGE, at the very moment of entering the game, it's total new world...
so, in this case, in which your preferred gaming console is your phone, go for ICS, the UI lags a bit, and i repeat, A BIT, but gaming is brilliant, just like it doubles the graphic power, i've tested NFS MW on both platform, ICS EASILY outperforms JB
hope you'll have good time there, in ICS

I'm not so familiar with initial releases, since i've bought TX recently, when JB was out...
you know, the main problem with me is that i'm always a pure-stock fan, i won't change launcher, walkman, gallery and these basic things, but if you do, as you say, it would help the hickup
are locked or unlocked? if you are unlocked, i can provide you with the best STOCK-BASED kernel for ICS, in which the only midification is having CWM onboard, so that you can flash SU easily to have root

lagging even though over clocked

I'm using rocket rom v23 with Abyssnote kernel version 4.2. And overclocked to 1.4ghz with ondemand using SETCPU. I don't have any background running application other than background data and gps enabled all the time.
For past week my phone is very slow and i need to wait for couple of seconds to let the app open. Why is this happening and what is the resolution?? I don't have any issue in battery. And also I don't want to loose any app's data.

Which launcher do you use? How many apps installed? How many widgets placed on your screens? And beside that just a simple hint: look forward for ICS...the lag will be gone immediately

Try rebooting into CWM then clearing cache and davlik cache. I had similar problem with another ROM gradually slowing down and wasn't sure what was causing it. Clearing the caches sorted the problem.

I have overclocked a few phones in my past, but the Note? Really its so fast and all works super smooth. Maybe with the right ROM where the dev already pre-overclocked it... But setCPU was never working great for me. Maybe just my opinion, but wipe, and get yourself a good ROM. No need to overclock this beast.
There is no lag "problem" per se. period. Stating there is a "problem" makes the assumption that there can be a fix.
You cannot fix the inequality in display processing between the S2 and the Note, given that the Note must process 2.6 times as much information for the display as the S2, so it will ALWAYS appear to be not quite as fast as the S2, given it has similar hardware.
So given you cannot get a gallon of beer in a pint glass, making it a different pint glass (ICS) wont help.
Now, sure the appearance of "lag" on the Note can be minimised thru tweaking optimisations, but note (small n) that the same can be also applied to the S2! Essentially, never in a month of Sundays will two devices with similar hardware, one of which is doing 2.6 times the work, ever appear to operate with the same UI zip.

The thing is...I don´t have any lag at all. Even with stock. BUT I can see a huge difference (on Stock rom) between TouchWiz and alternative launchers. Touchwiz is smooth as butter, whereas Go Launcher Ex shows a small lag (and it´s the fastest GB launcher alternative afaik.
And beside that: Currently I´m on Stunner (ICS) and here it is even a better experience. Absolutely no lag or waiting time, never, period.
I can´t sign the statement anymore, that the note is slower than a SGSII...I have both of them, and on Stunner it´s quite the same experience

I tried fixing the CPU to 1500 and 1300 MHz but still low fps !
How come the game works fine on HTC One X without modification but lags on our device?

It's probably due to the processor governor. If your phone is rooted, try to install any cpu set app (some are availavle for free in Play Store). Then set your cpu governor to Performance. The default governor on our phone is Interactive.

I tried filling the customer support form, I usually always get a response but none in this case, perhaps the jellybean update (if it ever comes) will give better performance, as benchmarks suffered on the 10h update to increase battery life I'm guessing this is why some games run scrappy, especially nova 3 as the graphics are insane!

I've tried DH on stock and CM (without changing kernel) and it's totally fine for me when the phone is cool.
The problem is WHEN THE PHONE IS COOL! put an ice bag to the back of the phone should solve the throttle.

Another point to consider is check if you set the GPC frequency to too low, I use the setting: CPU 1000MHz x4, GPU 225MHz

Some custom kernels (e.g. werewolf) allow the phone to operate properly at higher temperatures (i think sth. about 80°C, LG standard is about 70°C).

I know, but it will kinda not good for the battery, the skin temp default is 43 but kernel starts to throttle at 40, werewolf kernel push it to 50 (as far as I remember). anw, it still produce a lot of heat and might potentially throttle again. Raising the alarm threshold is not a cure, just make the phone not throttle easily. Ice bag is better

Try different kernel and different combination of scheduler and governor. Every kernel have a "performance" governor.
Btw don't forget that the benchmark are not really representative of the true performance of a device.
It is always good to have some big numbers, but some benchmark apps can be hacked easily to show to incredible scores (and in particular Quadrant).

The new stable cm10.1 has a great battery life but are you on SUPER XE rom?
I heard this rom has an amazing battery life so maybe you should stay on pure AOSP and try a different kernel

CM sucks. Seriously. Some games do run better, but sadly some run worse too. Seems to be the more complex ones that depend more on I/O performance than the cpu/gpu

+1 , actually no game ran better for me, my phone also seems to heat more, I tried every kernel out there and If I ever overclock my phone, I can even smell the heat, lol

Iodak v6 or eternity project on stock are the best choices. I think iodak is better but eternity has the best standby time

Also, i noticed that the i/o scores much lower on benchmark than on stock with cm, and 2d i think scored lower to.... WHY?!

I prefer eternity project kernel cause it heats my phone less compared to iodak and yeah, it has better battery life.I also love livecolors mod

Did you install CM nightlies? I heard they are more bug-free and has better performance than RC versions.By the way, don't expect any custom ROMs to be faster than stock ROM for the moment, most of them has a lot of bugs or performance issues, stock ROM is the best choice for now.

I used the last cm stable then :S
Holy ****, now i realised a thing. With stock lg firmware wile playing some games, like for an example dead trigger. With lg v20a i get fps drops whole time so i cant play, wich is anoying. With the cyanogenmod 10.1 playing dead trigger and other games i get no fps drops at all! And with cm 10.1 theres no freaking brightness temperature control ****, thats in v20a. Now i can see the screen in sun to! Back to cm for me again!

The screen dim can be disabled by renaming or deleting /system/bin/thermald. Which kernel are you using? I find CM to be laggy in my games, there are exceptions though, NFS MW is very smooth, but NOVA 3 and modern combat are very laggy

Hmm those two ran OK anyway, gamelofts titles have tegra 3 issues anyway but CM seems to worsen the effect

Don't buy asphalt 8 yet!

I just bought the game, and it lags badly, the graphical settings don't work so its stuck on max. I just submitted a complaint, I will report here if it gets fixed

Stock + iodak v7, you might wanna edit your comment as per xda rules BTW some levels play OK just Tokyo is really fricking laggy!

on illusion rom and iodak's v7 kernel, tokyo doesn't lag that bad. its playable. graphics seem to be stuck on "medium", cant change it.
Asphalt 7 runs smoothly. I don't know what gameloft doing but they need to think more on older phones and not just the newest sammy devices

It took them like a year to optimize asphalt 7 though, then it had horrible graphics until recently. Google play needs to start quality checking

lags a lot on jellyfish hd 1.3 even on very low quality
so stock based roms are lagfest? interesting. it runs pretty decent on 4.2.2 rom, it's really playable with occasional stutter here and there. cant wait for info on how it runs on 4.3
mine crashes right after loading in 4.3

Yeah its pretty nasty in places, on Tokyo it will "settle" but as soon as a pileup or anything else intense happens, will probably flash the latest nightly + iodak tonight and report
Oh and graphical settings don't work at all here, I reboot the game and still lots of water effects and lights that slow it down

Same here, runs fine on CM 10.1 with OP kernel with occasional lags. Didn't notice a difference in performance or graphics when I changed it from medium to low.
i bumped the settings to highest, the game looks incredible, and i dont see worse performance when compared to medium, lol
Running pretty good on cm10.2

OffTopic: How you do that without redownloading it's game data?? I've had to redownloading RR3 900 MB of game data everytime I switch between Stock/MIUI to CM.
Titanium Backup doesn't help due to different CM directory I guess..
Anyway, thanks for the heads up. Not a big fan of Ashpalt series

Easy, just learn to move your files go to /mnt/shell/ emulated and move the files from /android/data to /0/android/data and the files from /android/obb to /obb. This game is running good on cm10.2 and has more "mature" gameplay like NFS, its fun!

Lmao. I should've know that.
Speaking of which, does it have a in app purchase? I already spent $25 on RR3 this month and I think I'm gonna skip Ashpalt 8 unless it's really good.
