[Q] Radio Frequency with S-OFF possible?? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that we have S-OFF can we unlock frequencies since all partitions are now writable?
Code:
mmcblk0p22: 01400000 00000200 "devlog"
mmcblk0p24: 00040000 00000200 "pdata"
mmcblk0p27: 00010000 00000200 "extra"
mmcblk0p31: 04b00200 00000200 "radio"
mmcblk0p16: 03c00400 00000200 "adsp"
mmcblk0p15: 00100000 00000200 "dsps"
mmcblk0p17: 007ffa00 00000200 "radio_config"[B] << ?[/B]
mmcblk0p20: 00400000 00000200 "modem_st1" [B]<< ?[/B]
mmcblk0p21: 00400000 00000200 "modem_st2" [B]<< ?[/B]
mmcblk0p28: 00100000 00000200 "cdma_record" [B]<< ?[/B]
mmcblk0p18: 02000000 00000200 "reserve_1"
mmcblk0p30: 034ffa00 00000200 "reserve_2"
mmcblk0p32: 05fffc00 00000200 "reserve_3"
mmcblk0p29: 06069e00 00000200 "reserve"
Would any of those partitions possibly contain the frequencies the phone searches for?
And if they do can a simple mmcblk dump from the Dev Edition or the T-Mobile ver be enough to flash or dd to other phones and allow more bands to be unlocked?
I'm willing to put my phone at risk if a T-Mobile HTC One partitions get dumped I will flash them

I don't think they share the exact same radio chips? I could be wrong though

Radio updates are interchangeable so that means same modem across all gsm models

All GSM models use the Qualcom MDM9215 modem.
If a T-Mobile HTC One owner cares to dump some of those partitions and upload them so i can entertain myself/risk my AT&T HTC One. We might all benefit or I'll just end up with a busted HTC One which then constitutes me buying the T-Mobile version lol.
Backup/Dump
Code:
adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0pXX of=/sdcard/mmcblk0pXX

Baseband chipsets on different htc one variants are different. Just because the MDM chipset supports those frequency signals doesn't mean it can do it alone. It needs a baseband chipset with the corresponding baseband driver for it to work.

Thats the raw size, they zip up nice and snug to just over 30mb... there are 4 over 50mb and a few in the 20-30 range and a few tiny ones. the first zip was just 4 of them... the whole package is https://www.dropbox.com/s/3pfge51ynr81eu7/TmobileRadioDump.zip there
Theres a screeny of a few

Eagerly waiting for your updates. Good luck.

Just like the Samsung S3 / S4 / Note 2, the HTC should contain the same hardware / frequency support with the only limitation being software.
I look forward to the results of this!

This would be cool if we can find out what bands the one really has

Looks like kernel source for TMO US is up on HTC Dev!

It's a no go.
Everything flashed over and the phone still worked, but it didn't pickup 3G in a known 3G area.

I believe there are efuses that set the frequencies at the factory, irreversible.

I told you guys there's a seperate radio chipset other than the one integrated in the krait core.
There one highlighted in red is the krait core with the MDM chipset. And the one in pink is the one I am talking about. It's a power amplifier that handles radio signals. Modems won't work without amplifiers!
Here's the data spec of the one used by the US models & the one used by EMEA + APAC models.

Okay. Att and dev edition already support aws on lte band. There is no hardware reason it can't on hspa. Its locked out.
So att and dev have an Lte only power amplifier? I highly doubt that for aws. Since its supported on the lte bands.

Qfuses, amplifiers, filters and antennas. Much more than just a modem chip.
Sent from the HOXL dimension of S-OFF

So what does Samsung do differently that allows software tweaks to enable / disable bands on the North America variants?

Description
This script act like an nitrous boost for your Ace.
It helps you to clear your system cache, get more free ram for you and gravely boosts your phone's performance !
*Best use before gaming/benchmark !
How it works?
Your phone's ram usage will get higher and higher everyday then you will find your ace become an @SS because it's turtle speed and only reboot fix this problem.
Our android os create system cache everyday, but after one day or so, those old caches are not longer in use but the os continuously create newer cache that's why the ram get heavier and heavier everyday !
Adrenaline Boost help you to clear those caches ! So you won't have to reboot again !
For those who have sharp eyes may find your battery life decreased. WHY?
Adrenaline Boost clear your system cache and your cpu will work harder to build back needed cache.
Some have reported to me that the Opera browser crash after boost when open over 3 tabs.
You system need caches to work , this boost is intended to clear old cache that are no longer using and let the system to build new cache, so if u boost it too often , your cpu will be very busy building needed caches and may consume more battery than normal !
Boost it only when it's needed then there will be no problem !
What you need:
A Fully Working Android Device
A Pair of Sharp Eyes
A Brain That Is Able To Think
Properly Rooted Device

Yes of course, you've just flushed your cache! This script will harm performance in most cases except in extreme situations where you will only use one app loaded freshly into memory.
Memory "optimisation" was all the rage on Windows back in the day, and it was a hoax (fully debunked by Mark Russinovitch in his excellent article "The memory optimization hoax"[1]), because 9 times out of 10 the kernel was a better estimator of reused binary data and memory page handling than the clueless user. Now we have the same "optimiser" for android, and I'm pretty sure 9/10 the same logic applies.
Recently these "optimisers" have started hitting the Mac app store, and they have been thoroughly discredited except in very rare use cases, yet naive users write they see more FREE memory (no they don't, they just see the result of readjustment of memory pages that the OS calls free but are no more FREE than they were before...).
Even the article he links to, many comments say this tuneable is for benchmarking, and doesn't help in optimisation in 99% of the cases.
No one has yet proved that flushing clean memory cache magically works better on android than it does on linux/os x/windows. I asked imbawind back in the old thread and his answer showed he "thinks" it works, but has no evidence it does.
Anyway, apart from getting lagginess as the android kernel repopulates useful cache data, nothing gets harmed so if you like the boosting placebo™®©℗ then enjoy...

thanks for the loooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnng comment you have typed but all sources you have saw, make you feeeel like a pro are for pc/laptop, arent they?
yes, you may say 'Android is based on Linux, so if linux blah blah blah , Android are similar blah blah blah'
you asked me, now i ask you: how many ram do we have and how many ram do a pc/laptop have?
are u gonna to tell me that your phone are smoooooth when you have only 60/50/40/30/20/10/5/1 (mb) available left?
but how about pc/laptop? are u gonna to tell me they lag when they used 278mb of ram too ?
cache is meant for smoothness in higher spec machines because they may have 2/4gb of ram
like what i have said in first post:
Boost it only when it's needed

this is bull**** for SGA, benchmark get even lower score after boost ,why ? benchmark a test for overall system performance, including CPU. we have cleared the ram so the cpu will work hard to create them back, in the other hand, cpu still need to handle the benchmark, thus you won't get higher score in benchmark cuz we only have 800mhz, single core

it's normal
sometimes u will feel lag when using some apps because it's caches are still in use
after boost, u cleared all in use and not in use cache, cpu need to create it back therefore u will notice some feel lag but it will be much better after a few minutes, then u will notice the overall performance increase

Hi imbawind, my comment certainly wasn't personal, thank you for taking the trouble to contribute to these forums.
I am not a kernel engineer specialised in low-memory systems, and I think neither are you. I do know that a lot of work goes into building the virtual memory system and read/write caches in OSes and people much more knowledgeable and talented than us tune, patch and rewrite the kernel to maximise its use. Google doesn't employ monkeys to slap any old kernel into an OS it has invested a lot of resources into, engineers work on this stuff day and night.
Obviously a smartphone has less memory, but that doesn't mean the relative scale of resource demand to supply is not similar to desktop (smartphone apps don't request huge chunks of memory like desktop apps, so perhaps the % demand isn't so different). But my major conceptual issue is in flushing data from caches applies to smartphones and desktops equally. If the kernel uses that data again (and it has lots of optimisations to manage disk / memory caches), you get a performance hit if you flush.
Regarding what users say -- sorry that certainly doesn't mean it actually "works". A couple of years back I was engaged in a dialog with the developer of a memory optimiser for OS X and he told me lots of users said it worked great, yet when he tried to show me measured evidence, he never could show anything other than negative performance. Lots of people are led by what they are told, it is human psychology and works for advertising since the beginning of time; SuperDuper Product X™ will make your computer better -- then it tells you you have "freed" memory and they don't understand it never freed memory, it just renamed inactive memory pages to free ones so the OS reports more free memory. That is why on the desktop it is called a hoax. It would take a clever computer scientist many iterations of benchmarks to tell us whether /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches really helps or harms smartphone performance and neither you or I or anyone else have that data.
But anyway, as I said above, apart from losing cached data the kernel may have to reread back and slow you down a bit, if people enjoy typing the command and feeling they've done something with this script, then that is great. Remember that placebo medicine is very good medicine, it has a measurable positive effect, and is cheap and invariably harmless ;-)

Yes, I have because this was built-in to Engengis which I used since I first got my Ace, and actually made this command alias in my bashrc file some time ago when I first started playing with terminal:
Code:
alias flush='sync;sleep 1;echo "3" > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches;echo "1" > proc/sys/vm/drop_caches;sleep 1;echo "==> Cache Flushed <==";'
Woeks great for me.

Any chance you can set up a method of queuing theme changes? Three or more soft reboots to apply themes is a pain with having to open the app each time.
Otherwise, once the brightness and rotation issues are fixed, it's a really solid rom and I can't wait to use it daily.

No, you will brick your device. International and Verizon M7s are very different. They have a different partition layout. Flashing International Rom will mix up your partitions and cause a soft brick.
Flashing the firmware could cause a serious hard brick. I don't recommend you try it :good:

Well I'm not one to disagree with @alray. He's a very experienced users.
We can check the partitions on your device for peace of mind if you like.
Using a terminal emulator on the device or with adb command window. Enter the following commands to list your partitions.

Yep the Verizon version does have the same partition layout but if I remember correctly, the conversion did not worked correctly, the RUU flashed fine but I think he then had problem with radio.

Will i lose S-off / bootloader unlocked if I run a RUU.exe? I'm willing to try to convert, but i dont want to pay some more money to get S-off and bootloader unlock
Also can you provide me a link to the latest RUU of m7ul? i'm confused which one is the latest

Sounds about right. CDMA phone with GSM firmware. I did notice there was nothing confirming the conversion was successful.
But would it be possible to keep Verizon firmware but use an international rom? Not sure what the benefits of it would be but don't see why it wouldn't work.

The only way you can "loose" s-off is by manually typing the appropriate command, nothing else will make your phone S-ON again, same for bootloader unlock. And you'll be using a RUU.zip not .exe. The latest international version is 7.19.401.51, you can find it in the RUU collection thread at post #2 (see the sticky threads in the general section, most likely the first one in the queue. Make sure you also have a verzion RUU on your ocmputer if you need to flash back to verizon. I wouldn't expect anything good flashing a M7_UL ruu on a M7VZW but trying it shouldn't harm your phone.

I don't think there's any.
m7 gsm having a lot of roms to choice comparing with cmda (vzw now only have GPE+ version is being developed and maintained) also android M beta only released for gsm. As a flash-lover is annoy me though. My country dont even have LTE (yea i bought my m7vzw refurbished from China), and ALL Cm-based rom i tried always show only 1 bar of signal and drains a lot of battery.
Let me get this straight : the correct procedure will be : Change CID / MID , flash RUU, flash custom recovery, flash custom rom? If im correct, m7ul's radio should be different from Tmo's ? @alray

M7_ul uses a GSM radio.
M7_vzw uses a CDMA radio.
The firmware from an M7_ul ruu will not work with a M7_vzw radio. So I'm still certain it will not work effectively. The partitions are ok so that means you should be able to install a GSM Rom without soft brick.
I don't recommend flashing M7_ul firmware though. As alray confirms it will cause issues with your radio. :good:

okay, thanks guys for everything Guess im stick with GPE+ then

Finally we can have 4G band 20 ( 800 mhz) !

As you know, xiaomi has released a new version of redmi note 3 pro for taiwan market, and it support the 4g band 20 ( 800mhz ), i got the idea to flash only modem, and test if i can get the band. And it's work !
I'm on MIUI V8 6.6.30 EU ( android 5.1.1 ) and i get the modem file from miui_HMNote3GlobalPro_V7.3.9.0 the special edition ported by AndersonAragao :
http://en.miui.com/thread-300096-1-1.html
But i guess that will work with original special edition modem.
HOW TO INSTALL :
Download ROM
Extract it and get NON-HLOS.bin file from firmware-update folder
Flash it with fastboot ( unlock bootloader requirt ) : fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin, and Voila !
PHOTOS
Before flash modem Phone cant detect 800mhz antenna

information confirming the antenna type
DOWNLOAD :
If you want to download modem only
http://www101.zippyshare.com/v/mOEwVsrW/file.html
EDIT
I'm not 100% sure that the trick work ! So test it if you want (can) and leave a feedback.
obviously we can lose Calling after flashing modem, so thanks MadVegetable for his feedback
Solution :
get Root, then go to /system fix "build.prop" as this:
change
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=fluence
to
ro.qc.sdk.audio.fluencetype=none
This is amazing, thank you!!!
It would be even more awesome if someone make a flashable zip...

Could you explain how we should read those screenshot? How do you understand that after flash your phone can detect 800mhz band?
Inviato dal mio Redmi Note 3 utilizzando Tapatalk
Flashed it on MIUI.EU 6.5.26 . No problems so far. I am on band 3+7+20 will test it tomorrow.
Update 4-7-2016: Not working only 3G not connecting to 4g band 20. If i use my SG S4 i have 4G band 20 the RN3 with this modem does not connect.
is it possible to flash if i have xiaomi.eu rom installed (therefore TWRP)?
That test not see effective. A more effective test would disable all frequencies with QXDM and activate only the frequency 800, so the only frencuencia for 4g will be 800.
Zakariachelsea Please put two screenshots of before and after in RAW mode
After flashing this modem that you posted from zippy my SIM isn not detected anymore and my baseband version is unknown on MIUI 6.6.23 V8 MM.
I have reverted to the original modem and all is fine again.

Same for me running latest Resurrection Remix.
After flashing back to cm 13 Radios everything is working again.
Actually 7.3.9 ROM has 7.3.5 modem file. AndersonArageo ported the rom but it did not start when modem.img is in the zip file. That means you flashed 7.3.5(Android 5.1.1) img file on 6.6.30 and it works thats all. Last 2 photos places are different, just check the map carefully.
flashing the modem, will it replace the imei number?

it most likely won't replace imei. at least it didn't do that for me. but better backup your efs before flashing.
Zakariachelsea here I put the test that you are not at 800 mhz.
I'm not French but I searched a page that displays information for each mobile station.
In the first image you see the two towers that you show in your screenshots
http:// oi64.tinypic.com/24e98ba.jpg
Here one of the towers with frequency information.
http:// oi66.tinypic.com/2wrem8h.jpg
Here the other tower.
http:// oi68.tinypic.com/33o5pbb.jpg
There is no frequency 800 in those two towers

Let's see now
I tested the modem now in my phone, i can see the 4g when i put the signal search in manual mode and i can select it, but during the speed test, the internet connection is slow. Also, i can't see the 4g icon in the signal bar. With the original modem, i can't see 4g, because in my city there is only 800mhz for TIM

that is FREE the operator
it doesnt have any 800mhz 4g towers. only 1800 and 2600
but the picture for our friend are from bouygue telecom who uses 800mhz 4g.
https://www.antennesmobiles.fr/ look here you can check the 4 french operators free, orange, sfr(vodafone) and bouygue telecom.
bouygue telecom where he lives
LTE 791 à 801 MHz
LTE 832 à 842 MHz
LTE 1765 à 1785 MHz
LTE 1860 à 1880 MHz
LTE 2535 à 2550 MHz
LTE 2655 à 2670 MHz
more i dont know how this towers works but voila i think 800 is for long range 2600 for close? if i remember
so is it safe to flash this? i dont want to mess the phone
now i understand what i means
he could only see the 4g tower near his house on 1800 or 2600mhz (close range 4g)
but now he can see the other tower who is farder away from his house so on 800mhz (long range frequency) okay good good !) will need to try that tommorow (dont want to brick the phone also need some more info, it's my daily phone)

True, my fault sorry, I was looking the other operator. xD
Well then now confirming that the operator has 800 mhz, the only thing for sure is to disable the rest of frencuencias with QXDM.

Just like what the title said. Left it on for around an hour and only popped up saying system processes has crashed and setup wizard has crashed.
GSM network does not work.
Automatic brightness control also does not work.

I am working on this for the m7vzw, out of boredom, or will be over the next few days. Once I figure it out should be no prob to build for the spr variant...
To the op,
I sent you a pm, I would like to know where your actual source code is for this. It would save a lot of time if I could implement your changes to the kernel and device files, so I could spend my time fixing other stuff... Honestly, sighting the lineage kernel source does no good at all. No changes have been made to it for 15, and we have no idea what else you did to make this build work...

Will you make it for the Verizon variant too once you get the source code?
I have been waiting for Oreo since ages for the HTC one M7 Verizon
ok, so ive been busy with other stuff, and using @Flyhalf205 repos for the one max (t6) have hacked up some stuff... so far i almost have the vzw building (the device i have, once i get this one going the rest should fall into place...), after removing gps, and the camera. you can check my github at https://github.com/daavvis... its a total hack job at this point, but if i can get it to build i can go from there... ill keep you all updated...
His roms were the best.
