[Q] Xperia V India - Help Needed - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi all
I think Xperia V was never officially launched in India.
I am getting this phone at a good deal on seller warranty (probably imported).
Not much of a technical guy but I read about the SOD problem this phone has and that Sony has releases a official firmware upgrade to fix it - 9.1.A.1.140
As I read in some of the threads related to official firmware upgrades that these are released for different countries one by one (nordic, hongkong, singapore etc) and people install the appropriate one.
In my case I don't think Sony would have officially released an upgrade for India.
Can I install this official firmware just after booting the phone for the first time?
Will this solve the SOD problem?
Plz suggest. The deal is running out on an online site fast. Willing to buy.
Pardon my lack of knowledge and technical know how in this regard.
Edit - I know there are lot of custom ROMS but at this moment I don't have the time to understand all that and install. For now I want to stick to a easy official upgrade to 9.1.A.1.140 mainly to fix SOD.

Plz help.
Sony website states this:
Latest available software
You may already have the latest software, depending on the date of purchase. Software updates are released at different times depending on operator and/or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device.
Android version: Google Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
Latest available software: 9.1.A.1.140
Release date: 2013-04-10

That is why I got confused.
I want to install this firmware the first thing after getting the phone before doing anything to avoid SOD problem.
Plz tell me how to do it.
I will order the phone just after getting some help here.

Thanks for reporting.
A simple answer to the original query or a simple explanation of the rules I broke would have been more appreciable rather than a sarcastic comment.

The rules are the ones you agreed to when you made your account here.
They are in place to help you.
So, for example, if you post in the correct section you are more likely to get an ANSWER to the QUESTION you have just asked.
Secondly, bumping a thread in less than 24 hours often irritates users as it is spamming the thread.
If you are unsure if the rules there is a link to them in my signature.
But To help you, yes you can flash that firmware, even before you have turned the phone on
Sent whilst sat on the toilet.

Thank you so much. Can you explain how to do that even before turning the phone on or direct me to a thread where this information is available.
Also, will this firmware solve the SOD problem?
I have a subquery related to this already posted in a different thread but since you are reading this now, I will just post the link and quote here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42341551&postcount=67
Can someone explain how are these firmware upgrades for different regions different? Not sure which one to install here in India. I am getting this phone imported. Xperia V has not been launched officially in India. Will be going to denmark for 3-4 months soon.
Which one should I install?

Sorry for breaking rules. It was not intentional. Also, I did not intend to bump the thread rather wanted to add some more information.

If you want to add more information to a post you can use the edit button.
In order to flash a ftf file you need to install flashtool. Find links to it in the first thread in the dev section.
Also, I suggest you read the first 3 posts in the all in one thread. That's the first thread in the Q&A section and will answer many of your questions.
As to whether this firmware fixes SOD, I presume so, many have said so but I have a T and have never encountered the SOD.
EDIT
You can flash any firmware for your phone. Global generic will always be safe.

Will this need rooting the phone or unlocking the bootloader?
Can I just not install the firmware upgrade via Sony's default PC suite or OTA?
By Global Generic I suppose you mean INTL generic right?

Yes, that will do.
No, you do not need to root in order to flash a ftf. Please read the all in one thread, post 2, all these questions are answered there

Just got the phone.
It has 9.1.A.0.490. So I need to update it to 9.1.A.1.140
Is it OK if I simply upgrade using Sony PC Companion without using Flashtool and FTF file?
Are there any advantages/disadvantages or any implications of doing this either way when upgrading on a new phone.
Probably down the line I will root and install CM10/11 but not now. Plz suggest.

I have started installing using PC Companion. It is downloading the software to PC and will take about 4 hrs
What I am concerned about is whether it will ask me to choose the version (singapore, global generic etc) or directly install the appropriate one as per some internal manufacturing details of the phone?

If you get the update through PCC, just update there. Flashtool is an alternative solution, if you don't get the update in PCC.

In which case you need to find that ftf and flash it in flashtool
Pccompanion will only flash the region specific one for you unless you change a number in your build.prop

In steps to install FTF using flashtool, following is mentioned:
"e) open the XPERIA Flashtool, click on flash and choose downloaded firmware, than click ok. Important - if you do not want to delete any data of your phone, just uncheck flashing userdata.sin file. All data will remain in your phone, but sometimes it can cause additional troubles. So it is better (and I recommend that) to do the backup of your personal data, than proceed with clean instalation and then restore your personal data."
I have a brand new phone. No personal data saved yet like contacts, messages etc. So no worries there.
But does this mean that I will loose the phones stock data like music, video samples and some additonal pre-installed apps if I choose to flash?
Second question:
"f) turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button "
The window will pop up after the update is done? or I have to keep holding volume rocker down during the installation? I mean how long do I need to keep it pressed down?
EDIT - The FTFs available here in first post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227747
are for which region. Name has a "CE". Seems Central Europe?
Can you plz guide me to the Global/International Generic FTF for Xperia V
EDIT - Baseband of the phone is: 8960A-AAAAANAZQ-3003028-37. Which country does this belong to?

All data will be deleted, except for internal storage and external sdcard. (make sure to uncheck format of sdcard partition in flashtool, if you see it)

Thanks. Went through all posts in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42459460
Couldn't find a world generic.
Can you help me find plz.
EDIT - PC Companion has finished downloading the firmware and is ready for me to switch the phone on to install. Not sure which version it is. Apparently, there seems to be no INTL / World / Global Generic ftf out for LT25i 9.1.A.1.140 firmware yet. Ones I saw are: Singapore, Malasiya, Nordic Generic, CE.
What exactly is the difference in these? What Region specific data it will have. It still will have all languages support so I can choose English. I suppose.
Does this means maps will be loaded for that particular region only?
Shall I just go ahead with upgrade via companion.

You cannot go wrong using by pccompanion.
Its not a hack, not a trick, it's the official way Sony want you to do it. So just go ahead and do it

S1Boot (Bootloader) Update for Xperia T

Hey,
in latest firmware there is a update to S1Boot (to Version R10A21). I think most users who DONT USE PCC/SEUS will not have the update because Flashtool does not decrypt it correctly.
I packed it up into German Firmware, so if you are interested you can flash this Firmware and then just reflash ANY OTHER Firmware if you dont want to stay on German one. After S1Boot got updated it will stay updated no matter what Firmware you flash afterwards, becasue normally it is not included.
File can be downloaded here from my Firmware collection, directlink to Xperia T folder:

Thanks for that. Do you know what's changed?
I just checked my version and it s R10A118

Hi Binary, Can I confirm that I can backup my current stock rom (7.0.A.3.195) using CWM recovery (advanced kernel v4), then flash this for S1 update, then (correct me if I am wrong please!) re-flash kernel and then restore rom via CWM: resulting in being back to my current rom but with S1 Boot update.
Also just check that I should use "Generic DE (S1Boot-Update).ftf" - is this the one you refer to in the OP.?
Thanks for your patience
I updated via PCCompanion and my boot is
R10A118
WHich "latest" version did you get the new boot from? And what is new in it?
Mine is R10A121 and it was flashed with Flashtool.

It is included inside the SEUS files for the 195 Version, but "problem" is that we need to update Flashtool so that it decrypts the File correctly. For now we only added the "alternate" decryption for Loader, now S1Boot seems to be updated too Which is quite good, maybe they add features in future like button for recovery

Do your PCC Files are 3 or 4 Files? If your firmware includes the S1Boot update then it should be 4 Files!!
IT CAN BE that the branding firmwares does NOT include the S1Boot update, maybe that is the reason

Check my second edit above, i do get that file now.
But guess what, (Like a noob) i forgot i cant use pccompanion anymore because of unlocked bootloader..D'oh
Anyway, any chance of instructions on how to manually decrypt it (Probably nothing simple) or if I send you the files can you incoorporate them into my .ftf so I can flash it?
I canthen also add a branded vodafobe version with the new boot to the ftf list.

3. Download, install and set up flashtool. (Link in the all in one thread)
4. Drag and drop the .ftf into the open window of flashtool.

Full rooting guide for xperia t lt30p build 7.0.A.3.195

After having many problems rooting my xperia t james bond phone, I decided making a noob-ready tutorial on how to root the xperia t and probably other phones aswell.
No technical stuff, just follow the steps and you will be rooted in no time.
I did this with:
android version 4.0.4
build 7.0.A.3.195
So the very first thing you should do is unlocking your bootloader. Sony has made their own tutorial on how to do this, but It can be a little complicated. Im gonna link you to it and to a videp which explains it very well. I prefer the video myself.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e1DYnoxUm0
After that you will need to unlock recovery mode. You can do this in 2 ways but I prefer the easy one.
The easy one is:
Installing a custom kernel with recovery mode integrated in it.
Use this link to download the kernel or go to the forum thread where I found it:
http://www.mediafire.com/?n4v89r2fvri2wlb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1922925
Now that you've got the kernel with recovery mode integrated downloaded, we need to flash/install it into the phone.
You need to do this via flashtool. That's atleast the easiest I think.
You can download flashtool from the following website:
http://androxyde.github.com/
Install it. If you have problems installing the drivers for flashtool, you can use this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOC57DfI1zo
Now you need to make sure your phone is on and connected to your pc.
Open flashtool and click on the thunderbolt in the upper left corner.
Select fastboot mode.
Now select "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB)"
Wait for it to reboot. There should be a blue light turned on, on your phone.
Now look at your pc screen again. Click on "Select Kernel To Flash"
Select the kernel that I Gave you in the beginning of the tutorial.
Wait for it to install and your mobile probably reboot etc. untill it is on.
Now download Superuser zip file : https://rapidshare.com/#!download|939p5|3415386268|Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip|1324|0|0
Place the Superuser zip file on your mobile phone memory card or internal memory.
Now Turn off your phone completely.
Now we are gonna go into recovery mode to install Superuser.
There are several ways to do this but the one I use is holding both the volume buttons down and then holding the power button aswell.
(I did this when my phone was connected from my pc) or you use this video (skip to 3:31)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fMk0PhA_qc
It should boot into recovery mode. You can use the volume buttons to go up and down and the power button to select. Browse to the sdcard for the superuser.zip file and install it. (the most easy part).
Now go back to the start screen of recovery mode and select reboot into system.
Done, you have now got a fully rooted xperia T lt30p
Please tell me if I missed something. My first post ever lol
This post helped me alot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903137
Many thanks for your input here, but it is just a replication of the all in one thread instructions.
Also, to enter recovery mode you just need to press the volume up button when the purple led appears at boot up, you dont need to press all 3 buttons.
Also, you can download the SuperSU.apk directly from the market instead of flashing it in recovery.
Never the less, this is quite comprehensive and i have linked it to the all in one thread.

Yea, I know it's just recycled stuff but it is just for a nooby that doesen't know how to do stuff. I had like 10 tabs opened trying to root my xperia t.

Well its certainly nice to see someones first post as a contibution rather that just asking for questions when the information is already out there.

This method only works on the older firmware, as is mentioned several time in the all in one thread. If you have updated to the newer firmware 7.0.A.3.*** then THERE IS NO METHOD TO ROOT PHONE WITHOUT UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER!

My apologies, just learning the sony ropes, so to speak, I've come across from the Optimus 3D (free upgrade to Xperia T) my O3D is now running Xbsall's I.C.S. port.
Now I'm rooted on my current firmware, can I upgrade to the latest Xperia T firmware and if so how? As I've said, I'm a sony noob, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

Update via SUES or PCCompanion if your firmware has the official update. If not you can still upgrade via flashtool, just read the all in one thread. All information is there.
However, if you update the only way to root is unlock your bootloader.

Thanks fella, updating to 195 via pc companion now, it wouldn't update to 195 when I wasn't rooted.
Many thanks.

Thats irrelevant.
Have you checked if you can unlock the bootloader yet? If you cant then you will not be able to root.
Make sure you read the all in one thread fully so you know what you are doing. It would be better if you ask questiosn there, I monitor that thread closely

coincidence, official updates do not rely on root status.
many thanks. Was devastated when I had to send my 3 week old T back,
am a partial noob here and worked fine on the latest version of the phone software. :good:
This firmware can now be rooted without unlocking the bootloader, read post 2 of the All in one thread (Q&A section) to find instructions..

[Q] [Xperia T] Can't update to JB

Hey everyone,
I know that there is an update to JB for the Xperia T a while now, and I just got my Xperia T today. So I wanted to update, but the PC Companion says it is already up to date. But when I look up the system details it says Android 4.0.4 and Build 7.0.A.3.226. Is this some kind of branded build?
I got the phone at the MWC directly from Sony, so no provider should have branded it.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

If you really want the update, you can do it manually with flashtool. Maybe the update is not available to your region yet?
Do I need to open the bootloader for that? I don't want the update so badly, but I thought it should be available for a month... so, wtf?
I'm not pretty sure to which region it belongs since it was a gift from Sony.
You don't need root or unlocked bootloader, just flashtool and the JB FTF

Yep. Do not need to unlock bootloader. Also make a backup of your original firmware before you proceed.

How go I backup my current firmware? I want to save the one I'm currently running (ICS, 7.0.A.3.226), but if I try to follow the "create your own FTF backup" guides I'm always forced by SEUS or PC Companion to update in order to continue...

If you have got a prompt to upgrade then i suggest you do, it sounds like you are running a stock a setup so upgrading is always a good thing...

Thats because there is a new firmware avaiable,
however, in the all in one thread your ftf has probably already been uploaded and linked there
but if you want to back up your current rom you can root, install cmw and backup, then you can always restore back to where you are now with no problems

Exactly, I wanted to perform the backup right before rooting.
I just got my hands on the phone, that's why I'm trying to back it up now and no, this specific firmware build is not in the ftf list in the All in One, fact that makes me wonder if this build is somewhat special...

[Q] Anywahere to download 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware?

I seem to be in the only country that can't get the 10.3.1.A.2.67 firmware yet. It's not showing up on my phone or using PC Companion. It tells me I have the latest version already (I have 10.1.1.A.1.310 on a ZR model C5502).
Is it possible to get a manual download from anywhere?
My phone is very new and I will want to root it, but I thought it would be sensible to get the .67 FW first, then root (hopefully using vRoot).
I have seen this download: C5503_10.3.1.A.2.67_RU.ftf whcih is posted here: http://www.xperiaguide.com/2013/09/...2-2-10-3-1-a-2-67-firmware-update-rolled-out/ but it says on that page...
NOTE :- As soon C5502 ftf file will be available, we will update the links. If you are desperate to use above file you can use it, it will do no harm. Cross flash it. Root your device. Then edit your build.prop back to C5502.

and I don't know what "cross flash it" means or how to "edit my build.prop back to C5502".
I'm also guessing that the "RU" means that the FW above is Russian. Not sure if that matters?
Any help very gratefully received. Thank you.

Xperia Z will not update, what steps can I take to get the proper firmware on it?

Hi folks, I have an Xperia Z and its still stuck at 4.1.2
It's a prototype model, I've used the phone now for months and its been working great despite the lack of updates but I'm hoping it can have the latest software like the rest of the phones out there.
The bottom of the phone has C6606 written on it but the image on the screen shows C6616. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK, that is really very strange. You could try to contact DoomLord or Apollo89, they have knowledge of such things.
Are you rooted? Can you do a CWM Backup? I suggest having a full backup before flashing another rom. So in case you need it, you can flash it back.
I am not sure if you have the same kernel as the rest of us. If you can not do a CWM backup, and are not rooted, you need to find a way to extract the file "boot.img" from the phone. This is the kernel, which you can easily flash back. But for this operation, a bootloader unlock will most probably be necessary.
If you can get no help from Doom or Apollo and can not extract boot.img, you might need to flash hoping for luck, or stay on the firmware you have.
Disclaimer: I might be much too paranoid, after all your phone seems to have the same hardware as the normal one, and a flash of a 10.4.B.0.569 ROM should be no problem. I just don't want to be the one that did not warn you and be responsable for a broken phone...
===============================================================
EDIT: Just had a look at the thread, C6616 is bell Canada, if you had found that, you could have reported back and told us that you solved the problem.

thanks for the advice. I still haven't tried anything with the phone. I've unlocked and flashed the firmware on my old Galaxy Nexus which for some reason also never updated (bought directly from Bell) but this one trying to read through all the information I'm having some trouble deciding on which method to use and where to really start.
If someone has a simple tutorial on flashing these phones please do share, otherwise I might just leave it as is and by the latest Nexus when this phone's done.

sorry to sound dumb, but I can't figure out which firmware to select for my phone. Can someone please recommend a link for the correct file to flash this with? Also does it matter which generic firmware I use? I don't want to get the Bell firmware and end up with all the bloatware they have on there. I'd prefer as close to a clean firmware as possible so I can start getting the latest updates onto this phone.

I think all Generic firmwares have the same "bloatware" app in common and all carrier branded firmwares have their carrier specific apps, so just choose a generic firmware and then remove all unuseful bloatware apps (if you go root).

I finally just tried one method, following the guide here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240614
I installed flashtool and installed the stock Bell software, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390178
It looked like everything went fine and when checking system updates it showed 4.3 was finally available!
but then after it downloaded the file I tried to install and it just gave me an error message :crying:
So what would be the next step for me?

Any info about that error??
Why not flash to 4.3 directly with flashtool or to 4.2 and then upgrade to 4.3?
Also try a fresh install by wiping data (if you have already a backup of them of course) it maybe helps..

I've tried a couple times now to update that system update, its 10.4.B.0.569, once it starts to install it goes to the robot install logo at the startup for a second then starts the phone right away without doing the full install. The message on screen is simply "could not install".
i'll try a factory reset then directly to 4.3. I'm assuming I can use the same method as before or do I need to look into rooting the phone now?

As soon you are installing a stock rom, you don't have to worry about root.
But if you wanna root, your only choice is to flash a 4.2 rom, root it with a method of your choice and then upgrade to a prerooted 4.3.
Can someone please point me in the right direction to a FW that works with my phone? the only one that I seem to be able to use with flashtool is this one here which is 4.1.2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390178
however it won't let me update the system!
I'm guessing that I need a C6616 firmware to make this work, but I also tried this one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2612159 and I get an error in flashtools, in red writing 'ERROR - error flashing. Aborted'.
I've been searching on here and all the other firmwares are 6603 which I tried a couple and again errors in flashtools.
trying again with that 4.1.2 its flashing it but its not the firmware I need!
ok, finally got one of them to work! I'm not sure what it was but I downloaded a bunch of firmwares until one of them finally updated me to 4.3.
thanks for all the help!
