I'm looking for a good stable rom. I don't need the most features, stability and compatibility is more important. Currently I'm running fat and creamy, but I'm seeing a lot of graphical problems. A working camera would be a nice touch too.
Any suggestions?

I'm using jcsullins' cm10 preview and before that, the official CM9 nightlies. I recommend either of them.
Thanks I'm trying the latest cm9 nightly on gooim. Not sure if that is the same but it seems to be working good.

I'd recommend cm10 preview. Been running it for a while and it runs great! Why use cm9 when you can take advantage of cm10 with no side effects?
Well the tablet is mainly for my kids and they likely won't notice the difference. I read something about having to repartition for jelly bean. Is this true with that rom?
On a side note, does anyone have a properly working camera. On the roms I've tried, it kind of works, but the image is stretched so badly it's basically worthless.

When you install cm10, use acmeinstaller3. Might as well do a completely clean install.
Run acmeuninstaller, then in webos and preware download and install 'remove android'.
There are several good how to's here and over at webos nation forum. You can install cm9 using acmeinstaller3.
I would use cm9 official nightly, since your kids will be using it. I recently changed from that to jcsullins' cm10 preview and it's running mostly fine.
The camera on the TP sucks anyway....... It works much better in webos, which is a good os. Tweaked, Imo, webos is the better of the 2, but its lack of apps compared to android kills it.
Feel free to pm if you need some more help.
Just tried flashing the 0404 nightly, and I just get a blank screen at boot up. Anyone else having issues?
Do you have it in slot 1?

I did. It must have been a corrupt download. I just redid it and it's fine.
Cool. I was really liking this but now I'm pretty exclusively running the liquid JB. It has the speaker phone bug and some have had wifi issues(reboot solved for me) but otherwise it's great and has some awesome customization.

I'll have to give that a try. My phone has had a lot of issues with random reboots on the nightlies.
Hi guys, in your opinion what is the fastest, snappiest ROM of them all?

I've used Stock, Chameleon OS, CM10.2, and CM11. Of those, I like CM11 the best in terms of speed and feel.

I would usually assume stock cm or something with less than stock cm would be faster since I would assume that any extra features are going to be consuming more ram. Then again that's more from my standpoint of using a old PC.

I've upgraded from hashcode's JB to kitkang, not the regular cm, and I feel the system is slower, specially when listening to spotify while downloading torrents, that's why i'm asking.
I've tred three ROMs for the KFHD 7
The three roms I've tried are, in order,
1. [ROM-AOSP] Unofficial CM11.0 KFire HD 7" (KK 4.4_r1.2) [11/25 BETA] - Hashcode
2. [ROM][WIP][PORT][SOME BUGS][Halo]Full ParanoidAndroid Port for KF HD 7 - jb2kred
3. [ROM][PORT][IOAP][4.4.2] Kindle Fire HD 7"[Update 02/06/2014] - BookCase
The most stable, I feel, was Hashcode's. I had almost zero interface issues, but certain games would crash. FYI - Don't buy the games Kami, and Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. Both crash on opening. Broken Sword 2 crashes at first, but if you keep trying and eventually get a saved game it works. My biggest issue with Hashcode's was that it eventually slowed down to the point of being unusable, particularly the app switcher and home functions. It all started when I began having to press the power button twice to get the device to wake up, which I've come to find out was an issue with the rom. Unfortunately, I can't be certain that it's the new release (cm-11-20140117-UNOFFICIAL-tate.zip) because I switched roms after that happened. If you haven't noticed, Hashcode has released new versions but hasn't updated his original post. If you follow the link to the old version (Goo.im) you'll find the new ones.
I tried the ParanoidAndroid version next. On first install it was incredibly slow and I barely got through the GApps configuration without throwing the tablet. It was still really slow after I finally got to the home screen so I went back into recovery, factory wiped, and reflashed. The same issue, but faster, and slightly usable. Not nearly as snappy as Hashcode's though.
Next up was IOAP. I currently have this rom on my device. It's very quick, but some of the issues that popped up on Hashcode's rom appear on this one - slow app switching, sometimes getting to the home screen is slow. I think he's using Hashcode's "kernel" (I have no idea what that is), so perhaps it's an issue there. The games mentioned before have the same behavior on this rom. One of the more appealing (I think) features of this rom is that it looks quite svelte - clean lines, black and white, bold, custom icons in places. The bootup animation is ugly, but you don't see that very often, obviously. The other features of the rom I don't really use, mostly because I want the tablet to be quick all the time and it seems like the notification system (Halo) interferes with the functioning of the tablet. There are other bugs on the rom that are mentioned in BookCase's post, but I barely noticed them. I really can't decide if this rom is as fast as Hashcode's AOSP build. I'd have to try them side by side. If reflashing HC's rom makes the app switcher and home functions fast again, then I think I'd give the title to that rom, not this one.
If you really want a rom with an extensive notification system - you like to see emails, notifications, even while playing games and you like a robust lock screen notification system, I'd go with BookCase's IOAP build. If you want a rom that's base Cyanogenmod and functions probably the best, I'd go with Hashcode's rom.
My personal favorite is Bookcase's IOAP, its faster than most when Persano's tweaks are added. I think it's the fastest as well

They're a bunch of init.d scripts created by @persano to speed up our Kindle's. He's got tweak packs for all kinds of different ROMs and OS versions of the Amazon stock software. They work quite well.

Omni ROM has been the most stable for me. I've flashed paranoid android, IOAP, and omni ROM. I never really had issues with omni ROM, but the others all seem to have lag that makes me want to throw the tablet. I'm about to try cm.
I'm on cm and for me no issues and runs smooth

Have you already tried CM11? How does it compare to the Omni rom? I am using CM11 and I have lags and stuttering switching apps, scrolling, when going back to the home screen, and when rotating the device. Does the same happen with Omni rom?

yea, paranoid android was the most stable for me with decent speed/load times. omni rom also has an audio issue, the dsp manager crashes constantly.
Thanks! I've been using Pac-Man ROM and it also has an audio issue. I am looking for a stable rom for my Kindle fire hd, so I am gonna give paranoid android a try.

There are a few decent ROM's for the Tate out there. The two I always use are CM and PA. Lately I have been using CM and there is an overclock kernel available for it too. There are many decent ROM's for Tate though.

CM was pretty buggy for me. Do you have the xda thread for this kernel? Does it work with any ROM?

Make sure you're doing a clean flash. CM 11 is not buggy for me. But repot them to the thread so they can be addressed/compared.

My wife often complains that her stock HD+ isn't as responsive as she'd like. Will either of the stable builds (10.1.3 or 10.2.1) be better or is this a hardware issue? I'm wondering if the BN software slows things down.

I'd say if a little bit can't be dealt with then get a different tablet - I can deal with it cause of the screen size for the price and other roms... but, not everyone will.
[Adding also, cm11 is actually quite good - smoothest cm to me. But with switching apps, keyboard popup, typing in the brower, and more there tends to be waiting at various times or various lengths. How much of that is the device, the apps, or android is unknown to me.]
I mean all hardware works and all patches applied. Since I have a Nook with the faulty Samsung flash, please keep that in mind too. I'm currently on Marshmallow and while I'm impressed with the technical achievement, I'm not personally happy with the performance.
I ended up doing something similar on my old Nook Color, reverting to CM7 for performance reasons and it extended my ability to use it for another year or so. I'd like to do that again with the Nook HD+.

Then you need to go to CM 10.1.3 stable. It is mature, very fast, stable, and no worry of the trim bug hitting you. You can get it at the Cyanogenmod site. It does for the HD+ what CM 7 did for the NC.

Thank you!
I mean no disrespect to any of the developers who have done a phenomenal thing in porting the Nook HD+ to the latest version of Android, and it works impressively for such older hardware. I will probably try it again later in the future, but for now I just want to reset the device to work the way it did when I first got it and get back to doing my stuff on it.
Edit: This was absolutely the right choice for me. The Nook is now running much cooler to the touch and performance feels much faster.
Can anyone recommend a xposed version to me that works well with CM 10? Also which version of TWRP will be best for that version?
Latest twrp is what I would use. As for xposed, I would get the app, and let it do the dirty work of picking what works for what ROM for you. It will detect which sdk is used, and then default at the latest version available under that sdk.
