Question about Rooting and S-Off - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I`am considering buying the One but have one question.: Am i correct to understand it is no longer needed to unlock the bootloader on the htc.dev site with a unlock key because there is a possibility to get S-off? And when relocking the bootloader (for what reason whatsoever) does the bootloader then say Relocked instead of Locked? Thanks for any usefull info
Currently using the Nexus 4.

No need to go to htcdev and it says locked indeed.

[Q] How to unlock a relocked bootloader?

So I have a developer edition HTC One, and it comes bootloader unlocked. So I tried a few ROMs and decided to go back to stock and I needed to lock the bootloader to run RUU. So I did fastboot OEM lock, and now the bootloader says relocked. So I want to do the Google Edition Conversion and I have no idea on how to unlock a relocked bootloader. Reading that back to my self it sounds ridiculous but any help would be amazing. Thank you.
You would need to unlock it like if it was locked from HTC. Go to HTC dev's website and follow the process to get an unlock token. It gives step by step instructions.

[Q] Is it possible to go back to "LOCKED" after unlocking bootloader?

I've read that it was only possible with S-off devices, and that you can't do it anymore with stock android 4.2.2. Is there another way to do it?
I haven't unlocked bootloader, rooted and loaded a custom ROM because I'm afraid that in case I need to send it back with warranty(I already had to do it twice), they won't repair/change it for free.
Also, are there any other possible ways of detecting the phone has been unlocked? Perhaps some tips on how to get started? I've never rooted such an expensive phone.

The only way to get a Locked status after unlocking is if you are s-off. The only way (currently) you'd be able to s-off is if you're bootloader is still v1.44. If you've taken any OTAs and your bootloader has been updated, then you won't be able to use the current s-off techniques, so the only way to unlock would be through htcdev.com, and relocking would give you a Relocked status.

Damn I've checked and my bootloader is showing v1.54. A RELOCKED status would void my warranty, am I right?

Not strictly true, you can get s-off with a paid javacard service like fonefunshop. I did this and can now use revone to regain locked status (even on 1.54).
There is also another method detailed here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475914
but I have not used this personally (yet). All require s-off
This is true.. I was keeping it free and haven't looked at the link you have there

1) you are not supposed to post a question in development forum
2) you should've searched in the forum before you posted because there are several discussions and guides regarding this

Flash recovery / root with locked bootloader & s-off

I thought I'd come across this somewhere, but I can no longer pinpoint where. I was unlocked and s-off and re-locked my bootloader to run the RUU. I realized that I actually need root and have been looking for a zip to flash in fastboot for recovery so I can get SU. Currently s-off with a locked bootloader. Is this possible, slash can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I forgot to add that I was looking for a way to do it without htcdev unlocking.
The second link points to another thread that talks about installing superuser/recovery on an s-off phone with a locked bootloader for the Verizon variant (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441299) Will that be a problem?

That's assuming I have root (superuser installed), which I don't. I don't have a custom recovery currently.

Bootloader says relocked

Okay this is a really stupid question, but I unlocked my bootloader last week and planned on rooting it today. When I enter the bootloader, it says "relocked" instead of "unlocked" the way I remember having it. If I wanted to root, would I have to unlock it again?
Also once I root, do I have to relocked my bootloader? What are the risks if I don't?

yes, u need to unlock to root...no, no need to relock...the only reason to ever relock would be to run a RUU (if you're s-on)
Thank you, I'm now fully rooted
