Hello there
I ordered a 32GB HTC One which is coming in about an hour and since I had a HTC One X before, I know that installing ROMs and such isn't as easy as it is on my Samsung Galaxy SIII. I am pretty sure the CID of my HTC One is going to be HTC__J15 like the One X (since that's for the whole Middle East) and so I was wondering what the latest JellyBean is for my device? Is it 4.1.2 or 4.2.2? And speaking of which, I found this website posted on this forum:
http://bugsylawson.com/files/category/49-m7/
But unfortunately I don't understand that codes affiliated with regions and such and any help would be much appreciated.
The phone I ordered is slightly used, only for 4 days, and with local warranty but I would like to install (or re-install if there's no newer JellyBean) the software so I can set it up as a new phone, and I am guessing that's done using the RUU, correct? And if so, which one should I use? I would like to completely format the device and set it up from the start.
And one final thing, would someone be able to link me to an easy rooting guide? And do I get the unlock token using HTC's developer section of the website and use fastboot like I did with HTC One X?
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your time.

First of all I would just do a factory reset, assuming it is a factory default rom, and then leave it for a week or two to get used to it before going down the route of unlocking etc. Read through the One forums to learn all you can before customising.
There is a good guide here for unlocking, rooting, etc manually http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
A useful All-in-One toolkit to guide you through the process here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942
Look through the One Android Development forum and you will find several custom Roms available which would be suitable for the International Version of the One http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2119
You will need a custom rom as once rooted and unlocked you won't be able to use an RUU nor will you be able to get HTC or carrier OTA updates.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I am going to use the phone as it is for a while and see how things work out. I would really like to install the bulletproof kernel which enables the HTC logo as a capacitive button because I am not liking the idea of the two buttons - I am just too used to having three.
The One is as easy to root and ROM as any other device. You DO NOT need to be concerned with the CID or RUU if you download Mikes stock 4.2.2 ROM. Its dead stock (with the option to root) and works without needing to change the CID or flash an RUU

Yeah I have used Android Revolution HD on several devices before and it is the perfect ROM. I already unlocked the bootloader and am in the process of installing recovery as well as downloading and installing ARHD. I was able to locate the Bulletproof kernel which enables the HTC logo as a menu button and it seems like the installation is done from recovery, very simple, is that really the case or is there more to it?
Here's the link for reference: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233665
Thanks

Its easy to flash the kernel but beware as these kernels are not based on the newest or even second newest source so it will decrease performance slightly when you compare apples to apples

I agree with you, Just wanted to get earliest updates, one more thing with that update HTC has already taking out all the reasons of custom rom for me!!
and one more thing it will flash the firmware, and there would be stability, i am becoming more of flashoholic with the phone all the time in recovery!!:laugh:
I have done it so I could get ota from dev edition, changing the cid is easy however changing the mid is not. You must flash engineering hboot and add some changes using android sdk command prompt. If your interested let me know, however you can easily update your firmware and Rom pretty easy and most developers are only a couple days behind an update, plus they are much improved from what HTC original Rom. I would wait the couple day and flash the Rom and if your concerned about firmware there are many threads on xda that are pretty much noob proof! Good luck

Thanks for the Info. Did you follow this guide.
Hey all!
I'm a new poster to the forums, but I've been lurking since 2010 with my Xperia X10 (rooted) as my first phone, moving onto the Acer Liquid MT (rooted, was a pain to do so however) and then to the HTC One.
I recently rooted my One. The issue I have at this moment however, is that now that the OTA for 4.3 including Sense 5 is available, I cannot install it, due to the rooted and unlocked BL on the phone. I do know how to relock the BL using fastboot, but I cannot find the appropriate RUU for the Rogers 4.1 ROM.
There are a few things I'm going to be asking for here, just out of curiousity.
First, does anyone have the Rogers RUU for the HTC One? I went onto the dev site, and unfortunately, there is no RUU file found
However, I did find the CRCs for both Rogers versions.
Secondly, lets say I just flash the Developer Edition ROM onto my Canadian device, will I still be able to use the carrier I am with (Rogers)?
Thirdly, if anyone knows of a Google Play Edition ROM for the One that has functional Zoe features, that'd probably solve all of my current minute post-rooting woes.
Much thanks!
m0nte:fingers-crossed:
Alright, well, the RUU for the Dev Edition is being downloaded as we speak, so if anyone would be able to give me some insight to my queries, that'd be swell. Either way, time for science!
Hi Guys, I just got the phone (international/ non-carrier version) yesterday. Updated it to 4.3, and rooted it, following the guide from HTCOneRoot.com.
Everything is fine and dandy, as when I rooted my previous phone. But in my sheer eagerness, I didn't find out that the 4.4 was available also.
I now have a rooted phone, and I can't update it, as it goes directly to TWRP recovery when I try to install. I guess this is what it's supposed to do?
From what I can read you cannot install OTA when you have rooted your phone.
So I tried looking up how to unroot it. But this seems like a rather difficult project, and I am not sure I understand. From what I read I need to download a RUU, to install a stock rom(?) and I tried looking up this, but there are tons to select from, and I haven't the slightest clue which matches my phone. Can anyone be of assistance, as to how I can revert my root and update to 4.4, so I can root my phone with the latest android, instead? I'm not really interested in getting a custom rom on my phone.
Guess I should've read more about rooting before doing it, as I'm kind of a novice, but I'm more a trial and error kinda guy .
Thanks.
Edit: Or should I just find a custom "stock" KitKat ROM, and install that, from my current position? Is that even possible?
Sort of an answer

Hey man, so to find the right ruu go here htcdev webiste, go under kernel source code and then choose device as the one and then choose carrier and download one of the matching ones.
For the other stuff I'm in the same boat as you. Just waiting for answers...I would try looking at youtube and type how to unbrick htc one and try those first. Didn't work for me but might for you.

Thanks. I'll look that up.
I am not bricked, as the situation is now. I just have a rooted phone, working with 4.3. And I want to upgrade to 4.4.
So I guess I have to choose HTC as carrier? I live in Denmark and am unsure whether to choose EU or EU NFC as region? Also what kernel version do I want to download? I am somewhat unsure what to do next.

Do a fastboot getvar all, and choose the RUU that matches your MID and your CID
I've only rooted my phone so far. From what I understand I can just install a "custom 4.4" from this point, right?
Hey guys. Well I have an HTC One from Sprint and I wanted to sim unlock it. I didn't know that with android 4.4 kitkat it is impossible (so I've heard on diferrent places) and can't get a prompt for the unlock code when I insert a diferrent sim card other than Sprint. Turns out I needed to root my HTC One to downgrade the android version. I rooted my phone and flashed a 4.2 version on my phone but now I don't have touchscreen functions. I got pissed because everywhere I look for help the instructions are not clear or there is no step-by-step assistance, only a bunch of people saying "go to this site and do this and then download this and blah blah", when I follow the links I just get outdated info with more links to outdated info. So right now I just want my HTC One unrooted but with an android 4.1 or 4.2 stock version but I can't find any accurate, info for dummies. Can anyone help me? I'm kinda desperate by now. If you need any software info about my phone, kernel, radios or things like that just let me know. I'm so tired of searching with no luck that I just want some help step by step like a newborn baby. Thanks in advance!!
Maybe u should try to flash some ROMs like Viper, it will activate ur phone automatically. My sprint htc one is running Viper5.0, and i am using Chinese carrier SIM. The phone works quite well.

between 4.2 and 4.3 the touch firmware changred you need to have 4.3 or above to use touch and your recovery has to be the latest for the m7wls(sprint)example:TWRP 2.6.3.0 I would advise installing a 4.3 rom, if you want to downgrade your firmware to 4.1 you'll have to use an RUU OF THAST VERSION but you need to be s-off to do so.
I forgot to mention that the ROM I flashed was ViperBoy's Sprint HTC One 1.29.651.10 stock Odexed. I have TWRP 2.6.3.0 flashed as well. I am S-On right know.
The reason why I want a ROM below version 4.3 is to be able to unlock my sim with the unlock code. With 4.4 I can't make that happen because there is no prompt for entering the unlock code.

u need to S-OFF your phone first, then u can dowmgrade to android 4.3
So, firstly, this is my first time ever posting here, in fact I just registered 5 minutes ago.
I recently bought a HTC Desire 626g Dual Sim (NOT 626g+) and I'm getting very tired of android 4.4 and am very interested in either rooting or getting a custom ROM on my phone.
The problem is that I haven't found any reliable way to root my phone or any custom ROMs for my particular make and model.
Second problem is that I have never rooted or flashed a custom ROM onto an android device before, even though this is my third android phone.
So that's it, I'm interested in either rooting or getting a custom ROM, but I don't know where to even begin this endeavour. So if anyone can help me or even point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
Phone specs:
Android 4.4.2
Android security path level (if this is of any help): 2015-11-01
HTC Sense version 5.3
Kernel version 3.4.67
If there is anything else I need to provide in order to recieve some help, please let me know.
Thanks

Hey man if you are simply looking to root try KingRoot, it worked on my friends HTC Desire 626. Dont think its available in PlayStore so just go to their web and download the apk file.

You would probably need to unlock your bootloader and pay sunshine $30 to make your device s-off so you can change your make and model (cid #) to a HTC desire 626s. Flash one of T-Mobile or Sprint RUU and update your software firmware.
I never had an s-off device so be cautious and do research before you blame me for a bricked device.
