[Q] Xperia Z is it worth getting - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys after reading about the problems associated with the xperia z is it worth getting still? I will be using it for games like GTA and similar so just worried about the heat and the back cover coming off. Also is the battery life decent compared to the S4. I like the xpeia z and the camera and the fact it is cheaper, I would get the xperia zl but it is not released in Australia.
Would I be best off just getting an S4?
Thanks for the input,

As Xperia Z gets warmer and warmer when you play games such as GTA Real Racing 3 NFS etc, you will feel it lag worse and worse.
Then you will be a bit disappointed.
It's the same with Galaxy S4, because, I think, 1080p resolution is quite a challenge for both APQ8064 and Exynos Octa.
Please don't think of me as a Samsung seller. To be frank, I think Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2(especially when equipped with custom kernel such as Perseus) are recommended for playing games.

got to agree with flytomars with this one, i have been using my sony xperia z for a whole month now. Proud owner btw:victory:, and i'm a power user of gaming and on9 almost daily.. if your a user who really want to play games 5hours a day or surfing by mobile data or wifi almost 5hours daily well you should get phones which have removable battery, ports which are not covered and smaller screen size. because as flytomars says, those resolution challenge the core much more.. i do recommended samsung galaxy s3 or nexus 4, because with extra battery and charging ports which are not close u can beast it out daily with your phone
BUT,
its up to you actually
personally for me, i happy with my xperia z. it stand out more than the owner:laugh: having that dust and water protection is important to me because im a clumsy guy:silly: plus my hands sweats alot

Yes!:fingers-crossed: What's more, Xperia Z's camera(with the latest firmware) can put other phones to shame.

I was thinking of doing that when I get time, in two weeks I have a week off so will probably go to the shops and have a look. Thanks for the help

Also has anyone experienced the heat problem I have been reading about?

Heating just happens..
Well first of all good luck.. May you get the best phone..:good::laugh:
Heating is something that is bound to happen with those 4 cores under the hood and non removable back cover. I have had XZ with me for the past 2 months now and quite frankly I haven't had too much trouble about heating as when it heats up I put it in a bowl of water
Honestly it(heating) bugs a bit, however, you cannot escape heating as you are pushing the cores to the limit hence, they are bound to be hot. Playing 3D and heavy games will make any phone hot so I would recommend to go and play with all the options you are contemplating and choose the one that suits you
I chose XZ.!

two things to be concerned about
- you cannot change batteries
- bootloader is unlockable on my new xperia Z and I am very pissed off, I cannot root my phone, Sony are NOT hacker friendly, I had no problems rooting my Samsungs, and HTCs in the past.

rooting and unlocking the bootloader are totally separate things

[Q] [Xperia V] To buy or not to buy

Hi everyone,
For months I am eagerly waiting for the Xperia V to be released in France (it will be this week, with JB on board). But this morning I found a review from a quite serious blog (in French) and it sort of discouraged me :
- They had major 3G connectivity issues, which is a huge turn-off for me
- They say the screen is not that great after all (too yellow-ish, despite BRAVIAEngine 2)
- They found lots of non-uninstallable bloatware (Adobe Reader, McAfee, some games, etc.)
- They found lots of bugs (camera focus, SOD when using GPS and music player), despite the JB ROM !
Now I'm wavering :
- Is this Xperia V a good choice ? From what I can read on XDA forums, owners of this V seem happy with their choice, but for example, has someone experienced any 3G connectivity issues since the JB upgrade ? Are the other bugs really annoying ?
- I was planning to wait a few months before getting rid of Sony software and get CyanogenMod on this Xperia V ; now that I see the bugs I want to get CM as soon as possible, but is it safe to avoid the warranty of a smartphone right after spending €500 for it ?
- In a nutshell : is the Xperia V a good choice ? (I want a phone that runs JB smoothly on a minimum-300dpi screen, with a micro-SD slot, a removable battery, LTE-compliant, and that I can handle with one of my small hands )
Thanks to anyone who can help me decide whether to buy it or not...

The points you list at the end overlap quite a bit with my criteria for picking the V, and I don't regret it at all. I was hoping Sony would push this model more than they have and that it would get strong sales so that "smaller" phones might not end up in a low-spec ghetto. Anyway, to address your points:
- The 3G connectivity issues may very well have to do with the network settings being set by default to connect to LTE. I had major issues until I changed the settings (my contract doesn't include LTE). Since then, no problems. If the review unit had this setting on, that's probably what happened.
- The display quality seems ok to me. This isn't honestly that huge a thing for me, so maybe somebody else has a stronger opinion on it than I do.
- There's no such thing as "uninstallable" . There is a (somewhat complicated) method for rooting the V without unlocking the bootloader, so as not to void your warranty. I didn't have any of the bloatware that you listed on mine, so it must be carrier-added bloat. I'm new to Xperia and I unlocked mine after about a week, so I may be wrong about this, but I think you can flash .ftf's with a locked bootloader, and just use a generic version of the firmware and voilà - no more bloat!
- I've never had a SOD. The only bug I've dealt with since upgrading to JB is long pauses between tracks when using the Walkman app. Admittedly a pretty big deal for me, I can only hope that since "Walkman" is pretty much synonymous with "Sony", they'll get this one sorted sooner rather than later.
Satisfied with everything except for the battery consumption while on data. Came from Galaxy Nexus. I leave data on for the whole day with my Nexus and it lasts. With this Xperia V, i turn off the data and switch to GSM when not in use.

Carriers are well-known to add in lots of bloatwares. Nothing to do with the phone. But currently there's no working version of CM10.1 (JB 4.2.x), though.
The FreeXperiaProject are on it, albeit not high in their priority list.
Those who tested the current testing version of CM10.1 reported that the ROM is too damn smooth. xD
So for us to have a working version of CM10.1, it will take some time...
Disclaimer: I don't personally own a V, but a T instead.
- Among all the phones I have used, I personally haven't ran into any phone with connectivity issue. Most of the times, it's due to either telco bad signals or half-baked ported roms (i.e. CM10.1), which is probably the less of your concern. However, I heard that V was equipped with 4G (whereas T was not), so you might want to explore this more.
- V screen is far superior compared to T (and maybe Z as well), according to comparison videos and videos I have seen so far. I'd love to have the V display screen.
- From what I saw, V and T shared the same bloatwares. Most of the bloatwares on T are Sony media connection utilities, which are not that annoying. EA Games, OfficeSuite and other stuff I don't really use can be deleted. Coming from a Nexus, I'm surprised that bloatwares did not annoy me at all.
- T suffers from a Walkman bug, that's all. I'm not sure about V.
Yes, you should buy it. It's the only phone with 720p resolution and ergonomic screen size, yet maintain a decent performance, and better yet, an SDCard slot.

Personally I love my Xperia V, there is no phone I would have rather bought. Well maybe Z. It just feels awesome in my hands, looks awesome, is really snappy, the camera is a beast in my opinion and the waterproofig is a plus too.
There are some disadvantages of course, the main one being the lack of developers. I know, I shouldn't "whine" about it, they do it for free and because they want to and I should start deving my self if I'm not satisfied. But I won't. Coming from HTC Desire I was a bit disappointed (shouldn't use that word) to see the lack of roms and mods etc. The battery is a bit too small too, I thought that smartphones would last longer nowadays, but nah, it's a minor upgrade to HTC Desire for example.
Another problem is that my phone seemed a bit bugged right out of the box, orientation sensor would sometimes get stuck and not rotate the screen. I took it to Sony care, let's see what they can do about it. Probably nothing, since the it happens very randomly.

I loved my old HTC Desire. What a great phone it was.
I'm hoping to buy an Xperia V this weekend, too. I'm worried about battery life; has anyone bought an extended one?
I'm using an Xperia V, and I have rooted, added cwm, debloat the wares, still locked bootloader.
I heard that V have two kinds of screen too. And my screen's black color is truly black, not gray like T .
I've tested a film on my phone and my laptop, I just have to say that BE2 is great, it enhances the colors on the film, which is very nice, I've made a comparison with my friend's Xperia T, the BE2 sometimes enhances the colors too much which makes it a little bit unreal, but to tell the truth, most of the time, it makes u feel that the image is greater than the original xD
I'm from Vietnam, we only have 3G. But the connection speed is great, it doesn't take me long to download apps from Play Store . I think it may depends on your signal and the network provider speed . Cuz it depends in my country, if you have full signal, you will got speed around 6-7.2 mbps, but I usually got around 3-5mbps .
About Sony apps, Walkman has some bugs with playing, soon it will be fixed. SoD appears suddenly, I don't know if it just with GPS ). But this is a serious problem, it will be fixed soon either. And about the camera, I myself love the main camera with it's great speed of shoot, but the front camera sucks :|, I love the front camera of Xperia S more
One little thing I want to say that I love the water proof of this phone ). My friends' iPhone can't do that, and that's the way I troll them with my Xperia
Thank you all for your feedbacks, just bought my Xperia V this morning for €429 (great deal on Sony France e-shop, due to the loooong wait) !
I'll receive it next week, will root it as soon as possible to get rid of bloatware, change the networking settings since my contract isn't 4G, and wait for CM 10.1
I'm eagerly waiting for Xperia SP, or should I buy this Xperia V?
Plus of Xperia V : water/dust resistant, 13 MP camera
Plus of Xperia SP : bigger screen and battery capacity, higher CPU and GPU
Any suggestions?

Buy the SP. The V's flaps will soon fall out. Mine is already sticking out. If you want a waterproof one get the Z as they use a different and stronger material for their flaps. However if you're on a budget get the SP. It's high CPU ans GPU makes up for not having waterproof.

There are two things I hate about the Xperia V: 1) Disappointing battery performance on data connection (WiFi is significantly better), 2) Lack of development.

The LED strip and GPU is good. I mean it has an old processor but it's 1.7Ghz Dual Core. It's fine for me. It's also faster than the V. I have the V and overtime you'll lose water resistance as the flaps will fall off. Mine is already sticking out.

How long did it take for the flaps to fall out ? I have mine for 3 weeks now and despite the fact that they feel a bit fragile, I think if I take care of them they will hold on...
I am really fond of my V, it feels great in the hand, it is quite smooth, the battery life is acceptable, the camera is pretty good, and I dropped a pint of beer on it without any damage !

[Q] Xperia SP vs Galaxy S3 Real Life comparisson

Basically this thread is specifically towards previous owners of Galaxy S3, that are now owners of Xperia SP, or people who have both and can have a "real" comparisson rather than a bunch of review sites that give too much into details, that dont affect you most of the time.
Battery life is completely subject to how you use your device, if it is unlocked with a custom kernel etc etc, so this doesn't really matter since both are around the same battery stats.
Benchmarks etc. This is again useless since one has 4 cores that are older than the 2 cores of the SP. Again these are dependant on how the HW is used and in what way.
Photos. I am not a instagram user, and I dont think i ever had more than 100 pics on any of my phones.
So... The questions that really bug me.
Are the soft keys on the Xperia SP (home, back, menu) an annoyance when playing games, texting, browsing etc.? I found myself pressing all of those on my Xperia Active several times and it pissed me off. I expect this to be less of a hassle on the S3 given the fact that its only got 2 soft keys and they are all beyond the screen.
Is sunlight legibility on both up to par? If not, which one is better? I could go with a matte screen protector but that screws up the colors a bit.
The reason im leaning more to the S3 is the already huge development scene on it, and the immense number of accessories for it, whereas for most Sony devices the Cases etc are very limited. P.S. im very clumsy, even the Active fell lots of times but never actually broke.
So, for the owners or long time users of BOTH devices, which one is better for you? Would you go back to the S3? Or are you more than happy with the SP?
I personally played around with both for quite some time, and they are both good phones.
The s3 has a slightly better sound quality and camera, although the build quality is atrocious. It has a smaller but removable battery, and a larger internal storage.
The xperia sp has a larger battery and much better build quality, although the camera is not great. I really like the light strip.
Both devices have similar performance, although the galaxy s3 has a laggy gallery.
I would say go for whichever is cheaper. The xperia sp is however released later so maybe longer support from Sony?

Both phones have very reflective screens, which means you can't really see anything on both on a sunny day.
Never had a problem with soft keys, neither typing nor gaming is affected. I play nfs, asphalt and modern combat.

I am currently using Xperia SP and my Big Bro is using galaxy s3 and we usually compare both the device in everything.
I can say that Xperia SP is a fairly good device but S3 is also a very good device for the price at which it is offered in the country today. S3 scores above Xperia SP in following things:
>Fairly better screen and viewing angles than X SP (super AmOled)
>Marginally Better battery backup
>16gb internal memory for apps and games (X SP has Half)
>much better camera, both front and back (has video call too)
In real life, i consider SGS3 can be a good option if budget can go for that.
Looks of X SP is also not that good but imo better than sgs3
Thanks for both of your inputs.
I went for the SP in the end. Battery Backup is very very very subjective to if you have it rooted, how you use it etc. I couldn't give a flying about the FFC, since I never do video calls
So, depending on some key factors regarding on what is what when you unlock the bootloader, you might be seeing the (SP)artan Rom soon enough...
Mods, you can close the thread. My questions have been answered.

SO finally u bought Xperia SP..
For how much did u get?
Got it sorta pricey, but I due to my recent problems with the Xperia Active, I decided to get it from here. It cost 360 Euros. I could find it in the UK for around 300, but then if something went wrong, I would have to pay 30 euros every time it had to go and come back to me from Greece to the UK.
First impressions are nice, I really like the floating touch. But i need to get used to it And yes, the soft keys do not get in the way, because the fingers kind of arch over them when you have it on landscape.
I am going to return back my SP to the dealer ( My Friend ) and going for S3. I dont know y but i love S3. After using SP for three days i decided to buy S3... I am a big gamer.. Can i really go for S3.? And 4.2.2 update for S3 is on d way i think.. Any advice From Any Old S3 user ? Pls ...

Most games require only 2 cores, and the rumour about Key Lime Pie requiring quad core is just BS, as that will leave out the dual core Galaxy S3, all but 3 Xperias and the Nexus 10.
Nexus 10 owners will then be pissed that the nexus 7 guys who paid less will get KLP. Impossible on Google's part.

According to Quadrant, 3D-mark and Antutu, and general percieved performance, the Adreno 320 is Faster than the Mali400 in the S3 and the Adreno 225 in the US S3,
Linpack shows approximately the Dual core Krait CPU with Double the CPU MFLOPs, compared to the slower Quad core Cortex A9 Exynos CPU in the S3.
but don't get me wrong, the S3 is still fast enpough to run any game out there at the moment.
Gone of Samsung, due to their Super Amoled screens and build quality.
as fo Not being able to see anything on the SP, dunno what your talking about, the screen is clearly much brighter than the Super Amoled screens and easily visible during Sunny days.

Both are good performing phones,
as for the defects you mention, never experienced any of them.
the SP lasts longer on standby, due to stamina mode and a bigger battery,
can't comment on the S3, but judging by the Superamoled screen it probably has a longer screen on time,
the Glass screen on any phone CAN break if it falls down from a height or onto a sharp or hard surface etc,
Manufacturers are yet to give us a Indestructable screen, :silly:
regards
I could either get the Xperia Sp for 0$ or get the S3 for 140$ through my carrier. I game a lot and the Adreno 320 is better than the Mali but, the support behind the S3 is much larger than the Sp. Which one should I get?

Depends on what you want! i had to choose between these two phones as well i chose the xperia sp because of the build quality: metal vs plastic and performance wich is better then S3 I think the support behind this phone is reasonable with a soon upcoming 4.3 build
S3 without a second thought
S3 is a very high end phone which was released with an introductory price of above $600.
Samsung packed the best of its features into it.
It has won numerous awards and it was once the most bought android phone in the world.
The body of xperia sp is very tempting, but trust me, it is the internals that matter wayy more.
The back camera on the Xperia SP is very bad. The photos have noise, red-blue-greenish dots all around when zoomed. I clicked many photos myself on the mobile store. The 0.3 mp front camera is so horrible, that I'd rather not comment on it.
On the other hand, the back camera on the S3 is spectacular with no weak points to it. Superb clarity and there's no noise. The 1.9 MP front camera clicked some really beautiful shots.
The music quality on Xperia SP is good but not if you use walkman. The walkman's clearbass option increases the bass, however the volume of the sound is weirdly lowered at different points of the songs. This happens on all sony phones only. It's weird sony hasn't fixed it.
Use poweramp however, and you'll love all your songs.
The S3's sound quality is superb and it is an ideal phone for audiophiles. You can check the audio lab test results in this genuine GSMarena review -
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-review-761p8.php
The battery on my S3 is amazing. I dont know about xperia sp, but after hearing from my friends, it is equally good.
Gaming on the S3 is superb as well. I have never seen any of my games lag on the s3. Xperia SP's snapdragon cpu is also very much ideal for gaming.
So the decision is yours
Ram wise the S3 is better but then If Were you guys just sell your SP save up some cash and buy the Nexus 5 because it is clearly the better one here
but nonetheless SP is better than that older S3...don't get so tempted by that bigger SUPER LCD2 screen it runs on older ARM hardware compared to the newer krait architecture our devices have
GPU wise the SP is still better and besides sound could easily be improved by installing Viper4Android so its no big deal

Want to buy a phone like Xperia Z but am very concerned about Non Removable Battery

I hear stories that Xperia Z scratches and when you remove the screen protector infront the sony logo comes off. Its necessary that I get that Logo else its not worth it.
Also heard the back glass comes off when it gets hot etc.
Then there is the issue of non removable battery. What happens in 2 or 3 years when the battery goes bad?
These things are incredibly difficult to replace and where I live this Xperia Z will cost me $700 USD and I work for $3 USD an Hour.
What kind of battery does the Xperia Z use? and how many recharge cycles does it have?
john5220 said:
I don't care what you think about what I say.
I want the Xperia Z so am posting what I have heard the stories to see if perhaps I was misinformed and those stories came from early faulty units that might have been fixed by now.
Xperia Z is the best looking phone I ever seen but if the stories I read about are indeed true then it sure stinks IMO.
What I am wondering is the battery lifespan.
Can the battery in this phone last 5 years?

Depending on how u use it.. May up to 10 years!! but if u use ur phone to online and play games then having a removable battery is best.. I suggested that u buy a xperia zr which have a removable battery. Thus all ur problem will disappear  but then if u still insisting to buy the xperia z? Well train yourself to fit the phone limitations.
Sometimes littlest things makes the different..:good:
Didn't know the ZR had removable battery
Nice sounds like a good buy. I will check to see if its available locally and should be cheaper than the Z also
And with lower 720p the games should also run smoother thansame processor trying to run it in 1080p
The ZR looks like a real beauty.
One question is the SONY logo embedded into the display or is it on some sort of screen protector and comes off it the protector comes off?

Yup definitely cheaper.. If im not mistaken, the Sony logo is embedded on the glass. But I guess u should check out the zr forum if available.
Thanks me if I help in anyway possible

EDIT: I will be happy if I can put my hands on it :fingers-crossed:
i suggest you wait one more month..probably honami will be launched...Z has few defects...as you said...heating issue is the major concern...i had it...but apart from that, it is a beautiful device..too bad some jerk stole my Z...
The battery is replaceable but not user replaceable, you can head over to a Sony store to replace your battery, you will need to pay as well.

But I saw a video of the Xperia ZR and the battery is just like any samsung phone
Can be replaced in 5 seconds by even a child.
Unless ur talking about the Z?
Yeah its a nightmare to replace the battery in that one.

Sony ZR is a brilliant and practical phone.
The only thing I'm concerned about is zero development for ZR, i don't know why cos both Z and ZR are on the same chipset.
This was the same reason i didn't go for the S4 octa (lack of AOSP development).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2414
I can live with that
this ZR looks incredible. And I am happy its 720p and not 1080p since at these size the human eye cannot notice the difference.
Thats the best ad I ever seen
The screen coming off in heat thing must be crazy. I work outside and It's been 110 for the two weeks I've had the phone and I'm a heavy user. My screen on time hits 7 hours a day quite often. If I haven't had this problem then it's probably something you shouldn't worry about. It's a random defect in some phones out of millions it sounds like.

[Q] Xperia SP Users, please I need your suggestion on buying SP

Hello everybody,
Actually I was planning to purchase new xperia device... according to my budget, I thought of going for Xperia SP.
The reason for this thread is .. Can I go for SP as I am getting it in 19000 INR from ebay.in.. It is worth to buy or should i go for ZR which is 8000 INR more than SP price..
Will SP be future proof for atleast a year and will it Honami style 4.3 update. or just a common 4.3 update.
What do you think guys please.. suggest me!!!
and about considering the problems SP users are facing.
I don't Know how much is this in €. But SP is a really good choice! Buy the SP!

Test the Camera before by XSP. Picture size and quality is no more up to date. Not poor, but other devices (XS or HTC one) make better pictures. All other works great.
Value for money phone
Since I own a Xperia SP for more than 2 months now, following are my impressions. Since I am being critical I'll list negatives first.
Negatives:
Xperia SP's biggest weakness is its camera. Pictures in low light are very bad for its price... pictures in day light are ok, but nothing too good. Pictures taken by SP have more noise in them. So over all SP's camera is very much worse as compared to, say, Galaxy S3's.
The screen is not as good as Super Amoled screens of Samsung's Galaxy series or HTC's & LG's IPS LCD. However, while indoors you will not have any issue. While outdoors, the screen is a bit reflective but is still manageable. I haven't faced any other display issue till now.
Wi-fi reception is truly a bit weaker than other phones, but the internet speed is not affected. Only range is lesser.
Some people have encountered the touch issue when the phone is kept on a table & not in your palm. Some people have also faced a bit of trouble while the phone is plugged in for charging via AC adapter. However, I haven't faced any of these issues.
Positives:
The best part about SP is its performance. Snapdragon S4 Pro is simply a beast and Adreno 320 GPU blows the competition out of water. Current flagships of various brands like Xperia Z, ZL, ZR, HTC One and LG Optimus G Pro all have the same GPU.
SP has 1 GB RAM, which although is not equivalent to these flagships, is enough even for the heaviest of games/apps available in market. However, real racing 3 has some issues. Other games run very well.
Another plus point of SP is its build quality & design. It doesn't look cheap like Samsung GS3 or GS4. The illumination bar at the bottom is a very nice aspect of the design.
The battery performance of SP is one of the better ones.
When used with Bravia Engine 2, the display is awesome while indoors. It is sufficiently bright.
PRICE!!! A total value for money.
So, keeping all these in mind I would suggest:
If you are too much in cell phone photography, explore other mobiles. Galaxy S3 could be good choice in that case. Glaxy S4 mini and Nexus 4 are also there. However, all these cost slightly more than SP.
If 20K is your budget, then go for SP. You won't find a better phone at that price.
If you don't want even slightest of performance issue, surety of many more updates & have the extra budget then you can also give Xperia ZR a serious thought. It has a faster processor, more RAM & better camera in addition to being dust & waterproof. Battery life of ZR is even better than SP's.
Pretty much agree with the post from the_helix.
I think Sony have been clever with this device, they have taken away the things that average/practical users don't really care about.
Do you really need 400+ PPI, 1080p screen, a big internal memory if there's space for a memory card, more RAM etc? They have instead made sure that the processor is top notch, given it 4G and NFC - so you get almost flagship performance at half the price.
Yes some things could be better (there is always something to complain about - the S4 and HTC One are not immune from this either), but with a bigger screen and more robust build than the competition in this price range (the mini S4 and mini HTC One) I think this is the best mid-range phone on the market.
I think it's future proof - but within reason, some games developers always push the boundaries and make software that will only run really well on top devices. I think/hope it will see the next iteration of Android - is it really going to be called kit-kat?
hi,
purchased today my xperia sp in ebay.in. waiting for delivery. so now i being here for have a glance. iam biggest fan of sony till now i used four mobiles from sony, ( J230i, w810, x8, mini pro). and this is my fifth from sony. hope this mobile will meet my expectations. will join u later guys after getting my sp in hands. cheers!

[Q] Whether it is worth to buy xperia z in 2015

Hi to all.
I'm planing to by another phone. Budget is limited so there is not to much to pick.
Xperia seems good option because of big screen, LTE connectivity, premium design, important to me a very good camera and at the end is a flagship, but an old one, and that is my only concern.
So, my question is, should i by some newer(new) budget mid ranger or should give a try to Xperia Z? What is your experience with XZ?
Thanks
Ive had mine for a year now and do not intend to replace it any time soon. It runs all the current apps and games!
If your budget is tight, then get a Moto G, or OnePlus One or Nexus 5. Plenty of well specced devices around.

I bought mine 1 year and a half ago, and I can't be happier.
It's an excellent phone, great processor, ram, camera, water proof, design, development ( I had Lollipop from 1st day like a Nexus ), fullhd, 5"...
No need to spend 500€ to get a "rocket" smartphone.

Thanks guys for the reply, for now is tight.
I would like to hear more opinions of owners.
What about screen on time? Now when is for example more then one year old? I don't play heavy games, mostly surfing, taking pictures, little facebook, and a lot texting and calling. And flashing roms of course
For me everything over 3 hours is good.
U can get maximum of 4.5 hours if u r not a gamer ( my experience with games 4 hour screen on time).. May b u will get around 5 hours screen on time if u play with some tweaks..
I bought my XZ this last year in November and I couldn't be happier. Ok, screen on time is not the best out there but, at least for me, it's enough. SOT performance goes between 3-4,5 h, which IMHO I think isn't bad. You could also underclock/undervolt it in case you want to expand its autonomy a bit else.
It depends on the price you are getting at, I would say go for z1 if the price difference is minimal. I've used both, choose the one in your budget
dont buy a Sony phone, they about to go out of business lol
I suggest no.
Xperia Z has following cons:
- Back glas went off due to bad glue.
- CPU throtthling while gaming due to thermal problems, games start to stutter. Device is getting hot while gaming. On 4.4.4 it a little bit better.
- Wifi and Bluettooth disconnects. Search for forums with this problem. You will hate that problem when you decide to get a Smartband. There i no fix for that.
- Weak Battery. I heavily modified my stock rom with tweaks for longer lasting battery, i reduced wakelocks, etc, but still only 1,5 days only with normal use (i dont use LTE). It loses too much battery on standby.

So you came here from the HTC forum, proud of that you succeeded in unlocking the achievement? I find this behaviour a tiny bit bizarre, wondering what are you trying to prove? I mean, if you worship HTC, please remain in your little temple there. There's plenty of terrorist everywhere and nobody needs another one to come, terrorise Xperia or potential Xperia users.
Back on topic:
If you like Sony, just get another Xperia. They're not going out of business anytime soon as if anyone bothered to read, they're exploring (highly unlikely though) to start a jv or selling the business to another company. Of course if that happens, which have a remote chance, you're probably still be receiving smartphone support in the new business arrangement.

- Back glass just fine, over 1.5 years old
- Name one device that doesn't throttle (and doesn't stutter while throttled)
- Wifi and Bluetooth fine as long as you don't use a smartband
- Battery life is average, not really bad but nothing special either, standy is great with the right kernel
Thats my Xperience, no major problems so far.
But really better deals for the money out there.
I guess it depends on the price..
But in today's terms the XZ really isn't great. Like others have said, newer mid-range phones have overtaken the XZ.
Battery life has always been the only major drawback for me using the XZ. In this day and age you should be able to use your phone as much as you like, not holding off reading emails / replying to tweets otherwise it'll die before you get home
You're lucky to get 4 hours screen on time, it's not exactly efficient in standby mode either.
the amount of money you are going to spent just get One Plus One or if you are on budget cost wait till you got abit more money to get a better device
Well, it's a wonderful phone, the main issue with it is the battery
As others said if your gaming is at minimum (1 hour Max a day) you can actually get it to work 8 hours, even more if no gaming and used the stamina mode
Other than that, it's easy to root at all times and relatively easy to flash and customize.
And it will be officially update to lollipop.
I say if z1 is in your range get it only for the battery issue.. If not the XZ is great
Z is a great device.. But u can also buy 1+1 since it has Z2 specs and a better front cam.. It lacks Water resistance like XZ though and the multimedia features won't be like a SONY.. So choose ur needs first and then select the one suitable.. Although i haven't experienced any of the issues which are mentioned in the thread yet.. I hope i won't too.. But still my XZ can beat the s**t outta One M7 & all their desire phones, any iPhone, any S**tsung.. If you are a rough handler of the phone, i suggest u to buy XZ coz its built better and 1+1 seems kinda delicate compared to Sony..

Weren't you the one telling me I don't know what I'm talking about because of spelling mistakes?

I'll believe you once you learn how to spell and put in some correct punctuation.
lol what company hire this moron? he cant even finished a sentence correctly.
I most probably will take XZ if i get good offer. But also maybe wait for month or two to see what will came out.
I also considering to buy SGS4 but i prefer Sony over Samsung. Only reason to take S4 will be the battery life. But like i said before i can live with 3+ hours of sot. Currently i'm using LG O4X which have vary bad sot. 2:30 is max that i can get. And all kind of problems with RIL, it's really "demanding" device, thanks to developers i still using him, but i think not for long.
Thanks

Can you spell out some of those mid-range phones that are better than the XZ? my GF wants a new phone, and i cant seem to find a device thats as thin as the Z, has a fullHD 5" screen and 2gigs RAM and a 5.0 update for similar money...
this really isnt a sarcastic question. I just want to know what are those mid-range devices with these specs, so i can buy her a better phone and save some cash?
btw with heavy usage my Z never died on me until i came home(which means the whole day). im sorry if you use battery hogging apps that dont let your device sleep when you turn off the screen...
@Tommy-Geenexus
Do you really suggest that old spec phone to buy someone, with known not solved software problems on top of serious casing and thermal design flaws?
There are better options on the market. For that money you can have a LG G2 or a Galaxy S4 or a Honor 6 or One+ One.
