I know there are a lot of apps for back up/restoring, but does anyone know any working for ICS? I have tried AppExtractor with ROM Manager, didn't work. The Message-app started to behave strange. Tried SMS Backup & Restore, was able to restore the sms but couldn't not open them.
I'm currently using NovaHD's ICS Rom.
You can restore your messages from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and mmssms.db-journal in your nandroid backup (just extract and replace)
And your calls from /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/database/contacts2.db and contacts2.db-journal
(Extract and replace)
Nandroid = CWM?
So, basically your saying that i should extract my backup and the rom, then find these folders extract the backup one to the rom and then zip it again?
Two options
#1 Restore your backup, copy the files to a temp folder on sdcard, flash your new rom and replace them
#2 Extract them from your backup and then replace them
It might be other solutions aswell but these are simple
Nandroid = CWM

just a small mention....file types from CM7 or Cm 9 are not the same with other GB formats....so are not comaptible....be careful with that.

Nope, just root and and root explorer (or similar)
You dont even need a computer
Or use nandroid browser from the market : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.goddchen.android.nandroidbrowser

from the stock to custom, it will be prefect...just make sure once you are rooted, backup your msgs and call logs by either apps or by backing the ROM totally....
Hope it helps
So, i installed root explorer, copied mmssms.db(no journal-file), flashed owain's rom, installed root explorer, replaced my mmssms.db file in the rom, rebooted and the SMS-client won't start.
Optimus, maybe this will help you:
This is "backup to gmail"
I have got this aplication (paid) but it`s works on ICS (owain 29)
Take a look on my screenshot.
sms backup & restore works perfectly for me, but no idea on that phone call log
Albatros2605, MoFosis, Thanks for your help guys, but managed to restore my SMS by using SMS Backup+, which copies everything to your gmail and then downloads it to restore the SMS.
Hi guys, I recently screwed the pooch on an upgrade to 4.0.4, and I forgot to backup SMS before doing it. I did a nandroid backup, but I can neither restore the backup nor locate the mmssms.db file in the archive. I tried AppExtractor and Titanium Backup, but with no success.
Can someone help me by telling me where to locate my SMS history in a nandroid backup? Thanks!

I know with TWRP on 4.2 it puts backups in /data/media/TWRP. poke around /data/media and I'm sure you'll find it
I am stumped just looked everywhere cannot find backup but it is there in clockworkmod, but not in a file manager?
I had the very same problem and in all honesty I couldn't fix it so I just used TWRP instead. I read a while ago, though, that on 4.2.2 based ROMs, you'll need root privileges in your file explorer and then access the root directory of the device and search there, not the SD directory which mounts on your computer, for instance.
Today i ended up installing a new rom on kindle fire, everything worked very well, but i have a little issue now.
Just to be safe i decided to do a backup with TWRP after the installation of CyanogenMod. Previously i did a backup of the stock rom.
Now if i TWRP -> Restore I'm able to see only the last backup done, and if i use a file browser i'm only able to see the old stock backup.
What is happening? I wish i could delete the old backup to get back the 2.1 GB it occupies
Edit:The issue is not related to the device, but to the different android version of the rom. Previously my backups were in /TWRP/BACKUP, now in mnt/shell/emulated/TWRP/BACKUP
That path should be a symlink to the exact same place. If you updated twrp recently then its possible it might be part of the fact that twrp reads serial numbers now and started only showing backups in the same folder as the serial numbered folder rather than the 0000000000 folder.
Code:
you need to use root browser for this to work
Hi, (newbie here and would appreciate if you guys explain every step, detail)
I've recently installed titanium backup (free) and nandroid on my Xperia Z1 from play store, My phone is rooted, have unlocked bootloader. Also NDR utils from dualrecovery is installed. Now im gonna install a custom rom. Before that i want to get backups both my whole system (in case of soft bricking) and my apps+data. I did titanium backup and when i searched it from "File Manager (apk)", couldn't find it. But i was able to see that backup via "Root Explorer", it was placed in "emulated/legacy/titanium backup". Same issue with nandroid too. Then i changed the backup folder of titanium backup to "internal memory/downloads". After the backup is finished, checked the folder via Root Explorer, there was no problem. But still cant see the backup on my computer or File Manager. I want to copy my backups to pc (i have sony pc companion, google usb drivers, adb drivers installed on my pc). But cant find my backups via windows explorer (im using windows 7 ultimate).
I heard using cmd can fix this.
adb pull /sdcard/titaniumbackup c:/TitaniumBackup (the code was like that)
Although i dont know how to use cmd properly and if there is another solution that i can manually select those backup files and copy paste in my documents on pc, i'd highly prefer that one.
By the way lots of files that i can see by rootexplorer, cannot be seen from my computer. Is this normal?
Xperia Z1
4.4.4

Thanks in advance...
-Solved-
Hi all,
Noob question I'm afraid, I've tried search (both on this site and a wider Google search), but can't find an answer. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I have an SGS2 running stock Jellybean 4.1.2, which I plan to flash with a custom ROM. In preperation for that, I have flashed Philz kernel so as to do a nandroid backup of the existing ROM (which worked fine) and an EFS backup. This also worked (via the Custom Backup of Philz kernel), but when I plug the phone into my PC I can't actually see the backed-up EFS files - I presume because they are hidden. I know they are there, because I installed ES file Explorer on the phone and in ES, selected the option to "show hidden files" - so the files do exist on my phone.
I am connecting to the PC via MTP. I would like to copy the (hidden) EFS backups to my PC so I have a secure copy in case of disaster. Please could someone point out how to do it?
Thanks
