[Guide] S-Off no PC using terminal. (Easy) - Sprint HTC One (M7)

YouTube S-Off
How to S-Off HTC One without a PC.
As you can see from the video I am running ViperRom with stock kernel, from what I understand some kernels will cause S-Off to fail. Must be rooted to use this method. Also this will break Hot reboot, but doing an RUU will fix this but also wipe all your data.
Download Revone here http://revolutionary.io/revone OP is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
Once its downloaded move to data/local/tmp
Then open terminal
Type the following
su (enter)
cd /data/local/tmp (enter)
chmod 755 revone.bin (enter) (some users may have to remove the .bin if thats you remove it from all of the lines)
./revone.bin -P (enter) (Capital P is needed)
Reboot
open terminal
cd /data/local/tmp (enter)
su (enter)
./revone.bin -s 0 -u
Reboot.
To remove "tampered"
open terminal
cd /data/local/tmp

works great! now S-OFF.....

Worked for me too, however in one of the first steps to enter -p, I got an invalid command error. It worked once I made it a capital P instead of lower case. Just sharing in case it helps someone else.

Sweet! S-off in about 5 minutes.

Try the FX File Explorer app included with ViperROM, you need to browse system as root, and hit the lock in the upper right hand corner to mount your system as r/w. Remount system as read only by tapping the lock after you're finished copying the revone file to /data/local/tmp.

I see no lock on the top of Fx explorer

Droid 3 Root Issues

Ok so i followed the instructions to root my D3 twice and i have gotten the proper results, after the second reboot when i adb to my device i am given the root prompt.
That is about it though. I have installed superuser, tried to install jrummy16 busybox installer so i could get titanium working, but neither of the apps can find superuser or get root access.
Any ideas. Sorry for not putting this in the OG Thread but figured that would get real big real quick, thought it might be easier to start a separate thread for issues with the exploit.
need to find and push the su binary to the phone first. Superuser won't work without it.
Alright i got it working.
Anyone know of a good resource for how to kill all of the bloatware?
Is it safe to use titianium to remove the VZ apps, as in uninstall not just freeze
Titanium backup
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk
at this point, i've just been freezing things. I'm waiting till we get a better list of what we can safely remove without breaking things.

Can anyone add this stuff to the guide? I know most of the stuff is logical for some of you, but I've never rooted a device or used android. (edit: and planning on getting a droid 3 soon)
Also how to delete bloatware and install/use ADB

Here's exactly how I did it... all steps stolen from the thread in the developers forum:
1) Make sure you've installed the android-sdk from Google on your computer. (http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html)
2) Connect phone to computer. In terminal or a dos prompt, navigate to the directory where you installed the sdk and where adb is located.
(example location)
and type the following:
Code:
adb shell
mv /data/local/12m /data/local/12m.bak
ln -s /data /data/local/12m
3) Power off and power back on your Droid 3.
4) Drop back to shell/prompt and back to adb location. Type the following commands:
Code:
adb shell
rm /data/local/12m
mv /data/local/12m.bak /data/local/12m
mv /data/local.prop /data/local.prop.bak
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_netmon_usb=0" > /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_netmon_ih=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_res_core=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_res_panic=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_all_adb=1" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_all_core=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_efem=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_bp_log=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_ap_mot_log=0" >> /data/local.prop
echo "ro.sys.atvc_allow_gki_log=0" >> /data/local.prop
5) Restart the phone again. You now have root.
6) Get a copy of su (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=82FH3AGI) and extract it to the same directory as adb on your computer. Type the following:
Code:
adb remount
adb push su /system/bin
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
7) Install superuser from the android market.
Done!
Thanks! And then you delete apps with superuser?
I'm having trouble with:
Code:
adb push su /system/bin
It keeps returning:
Code:
cannot stat 'su' : No such file or directory
I have su (from the above link) in the same directory as adb...
*EDIT*
I have root within adb. So I definitely did everything before this right.
Did you extract su from the zip and put in the same directory as adb?
Yep.
10char
similar problem here. adb shell recognizes me as [email protected]_solana so im assuming its rooted..but when i try "adb remount" and press enter it says adb not found. i extracted the su file to my adb directory. Any ideas?
If you get an error like I did (top of 2nd page), try this:
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\adb push C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools\su \system\bin\su
That worked for me.
I hope this is helpful to any one that is having a hard time.
I found a one touch root video like 5 mins ago on youtube.
This is not my viedo all credits go to thedriodpeople the ones that made the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpGcuhoUp0k
k finally got the remount to succeed...now its say "chmod 6755: not found" after i enter "adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su"
nevermind, simply retyped the same command and seemed to work on the third try mysteriously. working now
Hosed up my contacts after root and un-install --Help please--
---Solved---
So, I pulled a noob move and uninstalled a number of apps using titanium backup without understanding the repercussions of each. After uninstalling a few at a time, I would reboot my device and everything seemed fine. Little did I know, after uninstalling most, if not all, of the bloat I am unable to click a contact's picture to bring up the submenu and select call or text or whatever.
I didn't write down a list of items that I uninstalled and I should have frozen the apps prior to uninstall. I'm not a complete idiot and stayed away from obvious apps that shouldn't be uninstalled and what I thought was ALL motroblur stuff.
Long story short, I get a "com.motorola.contacts" stopped unexpectedly error(force close prompt) after trying to view a contact. I can look through all of the dialer menus showing contacts and recent calls and whatnot but I can't view a specific contact in detail. The searching I've done seems like there are a number of apps that use com.motorola.contacts and I believe I still have all of them installed but apparently not since there isn't a ton of detail on the latest motoblur that the D3 runs.
Does anyone have an idea of what apps use this process on the D3?
Thanks.
EDIT Javier78 ended up providing a solution to this issue.

Quick fix and I was on my way again.
I dont think we know what all uses that process.
Sounds like your are going to have to do a factory restore, give it sometime eventually we will have a list of what is safe to remove and what isnt

[IDEA][Vivid] Possible Tethered Perma-Temp-Root Solution (Devs only!)

So, I just got this phone.
Not having permanent root is killing me, but I think this should solve the issue of disappearing su and busybox.
The general idea is to move all our root binaries to /data/local/bin, and remount /data to accept suid binaries (the 'su' binary requires sticky bit, aka chmod 4755). After you set that, you bind mount /system/xbin to /data/local/bin. Bind mounts stay in memory, and aren't cleared like mods to /system are.
This won't solve the issue of stuff in /system going away, but it will solve the issue of having your root utilities go away after a short amount of time.
This section would be run from the desktop PC on the first time of 'rooting' the phone:
Code:
adb install superuser.apk
adb push zergRush /data/local/tmp/zergRush
adb shell "chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/zergRush;/data/local/tmp/zergRush"
adb shell "mkdir /data/local/bin"
adb push su /data/local/bin/su
adb push busybox /data/local/bin/busybox
adb push temproot.sh /data/local/tmp/temproot.sh
adb shell "chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/temproot.sh;/data/local/tmp/temproot.sh"
and the 'temproot.sh' file would contain:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
mount -o remount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p34 /data
chmod 4755 /data/local/bin/su
chmod 755 /data/local/bin/busybox
cat /system/xbin/dexdump > /data/local/bin/dexdump
cat /system/xbin/wireless_modem > /data/local/bin/wireless_modem
/data/local/bin/busybox mount --bind /data/local/bin /system/xbin
on a reboot, all you'd have to run from the desktop PC would be:
Code:
adb push zergRush /data/local/tmp/zergRush
adb shell "chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/zergRush;/data/local/tmp/zergRush"
adb shell "mount -o remount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p34 /data"
adb shell "/data/local/bin/busybox mount --bind /data/local/bin /system/xbin"
and you'd be back to working.
let me know what y'all think, hopefully this solves something or isn't something already been done before
Thanks for looking!
EDIT:
upon discussing some other possibilities with a friend, he suggested "why not have this all happen on-device?"
it appears there may be a way to temproot/do the above all on the device without the need for a PC!
(dev details: adbd listens on localhost:5037, run zergrush then take adb client on phone connect to adbd on phone and run the temproot scripts)
exciting stuff here, folks!
This should work. If the device is killing any mods in the system folder just move it to the data folder. Just install superuser in the data/app.
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
Sounds like an interesting idea. I've played around with moving su to different places with no luck, but I hadn't tried moving everything to /data. I'll try it and see if it helps!
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA App
This works for my phone-- I've rooted it with this method, and rebooted then ran my 'on reboot' script, and the phone is good to go again.
Right now I'm working on a method to do all this on-device and at boot.
The process should work, since the zergRush exploit restarts the adb server as root, so in theory connecting to the adb server from the phone itself should give it root privileges.
Once you've got root privileges, the app can decide whether it's been 'rooted' before or not, and apply the proper script (either install busybox and su, or just re-mount the necessary partitions).
Hopefully this all makes sense, I'll try to make a proof of concept sometime soon... but I'll probably make a windows GUI first.
What about running a script that gives root on each boot

Lock/Unlock and remove tampered in bootloader without htcdev

You will need to be S-OFF
to LOCK your bootloader, enter the following:
adb devices
adb shell
su (if needed to get a # prompt)
echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796
(i would very strongly recomend you copy/paste this)
exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)
adb reboot bootloader
verify you are now locked
__________________________________________________ ___________________________________________
to UNLOCK your bootloader, enter the following:
adb devices
adb shell
su (if needed to get a # prompt)
echo -ne "HTCU" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796
(i would very strongly recomend you copy/paste this)
exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)
adb reboot bootloader
verify you are now unlocked
reset your "tampered flag"

Flashing this hboot make your bootloader looks as if it is s-on and locked but its actually unlocked and s-off.
In order to use this you must be s-off and have kit kat matching software (3.06.708.3)
DOWNLOAD
installation is done two ways you can
1) put on ext sd and boot into bootloader to install
2) put in fastboot folder
a) fastboot oem rebootRUU
b) fasboot flash zip PO68IMG.zip

i think he know cus i asked him but thanks for pointing it out sport AND I THINK U SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR THE PORTING U DID FOR SOME OF YOUR STUFF
Hi. I am in a odd situation right now.
I want to send my phone back to the retailer with two problem that it has ( back key light is very dim compared with the other two and some weird purple zebra like pattern that the camera shows in very low light) and don't want to lose the warranty.
Now in bootloader i have tempered, unlocked, S-on messages. And the phone is not rooted.
Any advice on how to get the damn thing to work?

Firewater does NOT Open or Execute.

Heya Guys and Bros,
I got a Sprint HTC One and im Using it here in Germany, since i have SIM unlocked it.
Problem is im at the Newest Firmware, Rooted and Bootloader unlocked, but i cant gain S Off.
I did try Firewater and USB Debugging is on, Device has No Plattern lock, or any lock at all.
When I gain SU permissions in ADB it asks for them on my device. I acceot them and after that i copy paste the two lines (i think simething with Chmod or so) but nothing Happens. I did try everything but firewater doesent even shows up in The Terminal.
What to do bros?
Should i try it with an terminal emulator on The Device?
Thanks in advance

When I gain SU permissions in ADB it asks for them on my device. I acceot them and after that i copy paste the two lines (i think simething with Chmod or so) but nothing Happens. I did try everything but firewater doesent even shows up in The Terminal.
What to do bros?
Should i try it with an terminal emulator on The Device?
Thanks in advance

I've made an attempt. Software info:

SuperSU v2.02
Software Version: 5.03.651.3 (Using this ROM with many system apps removed)
"adb.exe" is in my Windows environment path and "firewater" is located in the "C:\m7root" directory. ADB Shell has automatic granted access in SuperSU.
Console Text:

I will probably re-lock my bootloader and try again with the 1.29.651.7 RUU.

After the '/data/local/tmp/firewater' command, the console should print around 25 blank lines and then print a warning prompt that states that the authors of the software disclaim all liability if something breaks as the result of running their software.
Tried it again just a second ago
, nothing happens. Or must i press 25 times enter?

i was having same issues fought with it for days then something told me well maybe the firewater file was corrupted to delete it and re download so thats what i did and it worked so maybe some of you are having the same issue so re download it btw i used the weak sauce method but on an already rooted and unlocked device and without the weaksauce app .... and instead of adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp i place firewater file on my desktop and used this command instead adb wait-for-device push desktop/firewater /data/local/tmp
Thanks Mate, I will try that as soon asim Home Tomorrow evening.

Or a Linux live disk, if you're not interested in outdated, closed source operating systems .

[Q]I am unable to edit/delete the hosts file

Hello my friends,
I can not edit the hosts file.
I think i have to mount the partition but i do not know how to do it.
Could somebody help me please?
Thanks,
Zuka.
Hello,
Ya, you have to mount the partition.
An easy way to do this is to download es Explorer here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
Then open the app, go to the left sidebar, tools, and click root Explorer. Select mount and mount /system.

Don't forget to set system in RO back when finished.
When I click on the Root Explorer I get an error:
"Sorry, test failed. This feature can not run on your device"
Is your phone rooted?
Yes it is,i got SuperSU installed and the Root Checker says that my phone is rooted.
Strange... Did you allow root rights to es Explorer?
Yes,I gave ES file Explorer the permission, I got a screenshot:

I do not understand why Es Explorer doesn't work with your phone whereas it's rooted as well. But don't let's focusing on this, it's not the main subject. Try ROOT Explorer here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.explorer to get system mounted. If it doesn't work too, we will have to use command line through adb shell.
It's not working either, when I tap mount r/w nothing happens. I can't delete or edit the file.

Disable mount space separation on SuperSU, reboot
If still doesn't work, try uninstall ES File Explorer and install it again
Make sure you granted all R/W permission for Es File Explorer
EDIT: if steps above still doesn't work, you need disable Sony RIC first

What is Sony RIC and where can I disable it ?
Did you root woth kinguser and replace it with supersu? If so, you need to disable ric as @Yenkazu say.
Try to install busybox too

How to use the command line with the adb shell ?
First, no need to have adb installed on your computer. Type adb devices to make sure your device is recognized by adb. Make sure debugging is enabled.
Type adb shell. When you're at Android shell then type su to become root user. (the command prompt becomes # instead of $)
Chen you're root, type
busybox mount -o remount, rw /[email protected]/system
System file is now RW. When finished type the same command replacing rw by ro.
It should work

Where do I type that? In the cmd or in the terminal emulator ?
You can type this in Windows cmd or Linux shell (Linux : make sur adb is installed, to install it, sudo apt-get install adb-android-tools)
If you type it in shell emulator like the very known Android emulator, then skip the command adb devices and adb shell.
(type directly su and busybox mount etc... )
PS: busybox must to be installed to perform this action!

I do not understand what to do.Where to put these commands ?
OK. Let's make easy
Go to play store and download Android Terminal Emulator : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
Open the app.
type
Code:
su
The command prompt becomes # instead of $ after you have accepted root rights in the popup window.
Then type
Code:
busybox mount -o remount, rw /[email protected]/system
When your modifications in/system are finished, reopen the terminal, become root (type su) and then
Code:
busybox mount -o remount, ro /[email protected]/system
If busybox not installed, intall it first here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
Hoping you'll success
