The four lights have to be on or it will not work.

Yea, it can be tricky. I usually just press and hold the home button for a half second and then hit the power button

I just hit the power button and home button till it takes the shot, whether the lights are on or not, it works for me.
My power button has taken a Cpl rough bumps. I can use volume wake or sweep to wake to turn it on but what are my options for screen off? Sweep interferes with screenshot so any other suggestions?

Don't sweep all the way to the home button or disable native screenshot in build.prop.
Somewhere here is a thread and down load to map your search key to be a power key. It is brilliant. Short touch turns the screen off. Long press brings up the power options. You them only need your power key to turn the phone on.

Hi, just providing you some other alternative if you would like to know.
Run the following command in terminal emulator, it simulates the key press event.

$Su
#input keyevent 6
Ive created the same as a app, if you would like to have will share you. Im unable to upload via Mobile xda app

Also, there is no key combination, use a reboot app like quick boot. It's small and fast.
Can anyone advise how to capture a screen shot?.
Thanks

Hold down the volume down button and the power button at the same time
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Hey got ya covered.. . its kinda tricky but you hold down power button first and than quickly press volume down button. if that doesnt work hold down power button and quickly tap the home button at the bottom (second option has worked for me about 7 times already)
Power and home button.

Actually the volume button works fine. Thats how ive been getting screenshots, holding power and vol down.
Using the volume button actually gives you a nifty preview/quick link in your notification panel as well

So you can do it both ways? That is so weird. why multiple ways to screenshot. BTW screenshots don't work, even with root.

Yup, two ways, and what? Lol they work out of the box.

Im stock rooted and both work. I use the volume as it gives me a quick link to open it.

You have to hold both the power and volume for a second. Im absolutely stock rooted, and Im going to assume the couple of roms out havent taken out the feature, so it should work on everything.

The power+home is much quicker, but like I said, I like the quick link/preview.

He hit it right on the nail. HTC includes both the stick android method for screen shots and they include their own method which most of us use. The sense method is faster but the stock gives u a preview and it appears in the notification bar. Power+vol. Down is the stock and power+home is the sense method. Both should work straight out of the box if not then ur timing is off

I love my note 3 but I am not very fond of the button layout. is anybody aware of a way to enable a navigation bar similar to nexus devices? and if not, is there a way to remap the "menu" button to act as a recent apps button? I hate having to hold the home button to access the recent apps menu. I've searched many times and haven't been able to find anything. THANKS!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
Xposed with gravity box will let you change the button layout. Navbar can be done but it's a pain in the butt.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
really? the description for gravity box says to not use with interfaces such as touchwiz and sense.

I'm using it right now no problem

thank you! im gona check that out. what exactly do you have done?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
It's just full of little tweaks like center clock and other status bar mods as well as other system tweaks.

It also has a button remapper. I remapped my menu and back long press to turn off screen and double press to pull down notification
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
great thank you. I remapped my menu button to double tap to open recent apps. wish I could do it single tap but this is definitely better than before
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
Xposed additions also works to remap buttons. That is what I use to remap menu to recent apps and long press menu to menu.

Hi, sorry to hijack this thread but since op using note three which uses omeled, won't the navigation bar cause screen burn in? Lol I'm fond with the navigation bar. Ya and just to say xposed addition allow remapping or what best is temasek rom also provide it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
this is perfect and exactly what I was looking for! I remapped the menu button to recent apps and got the 3 dot menu always on module to accompany it.
