[Q] Nook Color Video Problems

I'm having some frustrating problems with my Nook Color. The fact that it pretty much refuses to play Videos annoys me a lot. NO, I'm not talking about conversion problems. I'm talking about the Nook Not playing Videos in General. For Example: I go to Mobile Youtube and try to watch a video I get an error(The Picture Attatched). Now I know the Nook Color can play Mobile Youtube because I tested it out on the Store Display Models, but when I try to watch the same video on my NC I get the Attatched Error.
Now take it a step further, I have Nookie Froyo Setup on my MicroSD card and tricked out with everything including Market. Pretty much the only thing I can't get working are Protected Apps from the Market, that and again Videos. Videos absolutly refuse to play at all unless I load it within a Flash Player like on youtube, but it doesn't play smoothly in the Flash Player unless I keep the Player small(which hardly compliments my NC's screen).
So does anyone have any idea as to why my NC refuses to play Video?
What are you using to play the videos?
What kind of videos are they? (avi, mkv, mp4)
Try Rockplayer, it plays just about everything I can throw at it. I also use arcmedia for the few vidoes that RP can't play.

Nook Color can only play these video formats: 3GP, 3G2, MP4, M4V, and OGG. And supports MPEG-4 Simple Profile up to 854×480, H.263 up to 352×288, and H.264 Baseline profile up to 854×480. So if u want enjoy your video on Nook Color, u must convert video to these Nook Color compatible formats. I suggest u try Foxreal Video Converter, which can convert all format videos to Nook Color with the optimized format (MP4, H.264, 854×480).
U can try it, good luck!

Thanks for the info! I downloaded the foxreal converter, but I can't find or set the optimized format (MP4, H.264, 854×480) that you suggested. Can you offer any help?
BTW My computer skills are marginal at best...
TIA Rich
BTT I'm hoping that some one can help me out...
If you have protected app install problem, open Nook Tools and unchecked the Allow Non-Market App and rechecked it. I recommend VitalPlayer from the market. It's free so it has ads but if you use Adfree, you can eliminate the ads.

I should have mentioned that my nook is not rooted. I just want to convert videos to a format so that I can watch them...
Actually my problem was this:
UnRooted Stock went to m.youtube.com tried to play a Video got error.
Interrestingly it would start working while at B&N store but stop working when I left. In the end I'm running Nookie Froyo off of MicroSD and can use the Android Youtube or the Youtube App, Haven't looked back. Don't want to touch my stock because I want to keep my NC as clean as Possible just in case it breaks or something. ( And while hoping for a Netflix App when B&N launch their App store)

Not really, although I do recommend having Linux as it will save you alot of trouble. Try Ubuntu as it requires no Partitioning to Install if you use the Windows installer.
The default NF image doesn't come with Market but there's a Gapps Howto on the Dev forums. Also I recommend a Class 6 MicroSD although a Class 4 will work.
If you have any other questions you can PM me.

Nook Video Player

Is there a way to get the nook color video player to play full screen?

[Q] Media Player

What is the best media player for the nook color rooted, also what is a good ereader?
Advance Thanks!
bobo81963
I'd suggest VLC as a media player.
For e-readers, I find no single app does it all. EZ PDF, Perfect Viewer, Aldiko, and Cool Reader all get used on my Nook depending on the format of the content.

I would recommend:
Mx video player (standard video player),
G-mote for video streaming from pc (also remote app),
Mantano reader for PDF files,
Perfect viewer for comics,
Kindle app for epubs,
Google Music 4.0 for music of course.

[Q] Hardware video decoding on the HD+ Running CM10.1

So, I recently purchased the Nook HD+ since it was on sale, mainly to enjoy anime and read manga. I tried using my preferred video player, Dice player on stock, and noticed that it would not use the hardware decoder. So I tried out a few other video players, and none of them could play back MKVs with the hardware decoder. Next, I decided to try out CM10.1 in hopes of it resolving this problem. Unfortunately, I got the same results. Is there no way to use hardware video decoding with this tablet? Or are there any fixes/other applications that will let me playback a 720p+ MKV?
Thanks for any help! I would really love to keep this tablet... $209 for a 32 gig tablet of this quality is a steal! But if I'm unable to playback these videos, it just lost it's main form of usage....
mx player with the arm v7neon codec works perfectly for me playing 1080p mkv videos with hw decoding on stock OS
thanks i will try

[Q] Play Movies app and m4v files

I have a microSD card with a bunch of non-DRM m4v movies on it. I had a Hisense Sero Pro 7 and with this card, Google Play Movies would see the movies and play them no problem.
Then, I switched to the Nook HD+ a while back. I can't remember for sure, but it seems I was able to play movies off the card (either with stock ROM or with CM10.1, I can't remember). Now, I tried this morning, and Play Movies app does not show any of my local movies when I go to My Movies. Music files show in Play Music, so I know the SD card is working.
Am I crazy? (rhetorical question). Does the Nook HD+ play m4v movies with stock or CM10.1? If not, what is a good, cheap (doesn't need to be free) player that will play back these m4v movies (high quality BR rips)?
Thanks.
OK, I'm not crazy. I have another HD+ that I had unboxed a few weeks ago, put CM10.1 on, and put back in the box and on the shelf.
I fired it up and started Play Movie app. It sees the movies fine and plays them. BUT, it's an older version of Play Movies. The older version is 2.4 and the new is 2.5. The older version had (and I say "had" because it just auto-updated to 2.5 and I lost 2.4) sections called TV Shows, Movies, and Personal Videos. My movies were under Personal Videos. Now, with 2.5, no Personal Videos section.
So, how do I get 2.4 back or how do I get 2.5 to see my m4v movies?
I found a 2.4 APK for the Play Movies app and uninstalled 2.5 and installed 2.4. Works great again!
Hopefully Google will fix 2.5 (assuming it's a bug that personal videos is missing) soon!
I have found that irrespective of hardware or software, MXplayer is the most versatile of the video player apps. It has multiple codecs and will recommend download of any additional ones needed for a specific file. I have played multiple mV4 movies successfully on multiple devices including the NookHD+. There is a free trial and really worth the 5 bucks.

Might want to have a look at Dice Player, very nice too.

MX really is the best one out there, updated frequently too.
That play movies app that came with the nook is really nice though. I like the way it works.

Currently, I am "testing" two apps, BSPlayer FREE and QuickPic. Both are working fine with my m4v files. Both has good UI. But, I'll kept only one in the end.

Well, BSPlayer FREE wins out. One can zoom in or out, change the brightness and volume all from the screen.
