[Q] Kernel with color support? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I came from the GNex to the ONE and was wondering if any kernels are supporting the gamma/RGB color changes that were possible with that phone. Or is this something that is not possible due to the screens not being the same.

This isn't a kernel mod
Because the led that htc use is only green/red

How is it possible to have only 2 colors? You need all 3 for it to work correctly. Primary colors.
I like the screen now but miss being able to change it whenever I felt the need.

OP is talking about adjusting screen colour, gamma settings etc.. not LED.
I'm not aware of any current kernels that support this feature.

HTC phones don't have these issues like other phones, imo so no settings like that are necessary

Unfortunately there is no choice to oversaturate the colors on the display. If that's what you need, consider getting a phone with AMOLED display.

Dude, whether or not you believe that there's no replacement for AMOLED (and I do agree with that statement) has no bearing on whether or not someone chooses to mess with screen color. I love the screen of my HTC One however, I wouldn't mind tweaking it a little to match my custom colors that I've implemented on my N4. Just saying...

Well if you read what I wrote, you'd see I HAD an amoled display. I don't now which is why I asked the question if this was possible on the ONE. If a kernel dev adds it in their kernel, then there will be a choice. And with Android, there is always a choice.
Thanks for the replies guys. I'll ask the kernel devs if they have plans to try it out.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

I hope a kernel comes out for this. One thing I noticed is that my screen is a tad too warm. That's all I want to change. Make it a bit cooler to get a more neutral color temperature. Wouldn't want to touch. Saturation though. Love the colors for this screen.

We need HTC to release the kernel sources first.

HTC hasn't made a phone with a multicolor led since the nexus one
Sent from my One X using Tapatalk 2
And it is too small and partially hidden to be of much use. As per ONE S. I have to pick the phone up and stare in to the earpiece grille to see if it is blinking.
Joke. As in bad joke.
HTC have steadily gone backwards with notification LEDs. They have become less and less visible, and therefore less and less useful.
I look back to some of my previous HTCs, such as the touch pro and hero. They may not have had rgb notifications, but they were highly visible and showed a bit of creativity from htc.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Yea, the LED should never be hidden behind the grille. Just isn't the right place.
Hows the One's LED visibility compared to the OneX's?
Also very curious about this. I read in a few places the One didn't have a notification LED and I was shocked. I'm very glad to hear it has one, even if it's not very visible. At least it's there.
Since the device was announce is been said that it does have a notification led.
Plenty of videos out and you guys have not seen the light? Because I've seen it in a couple videos.
Edit: it's clearly visible in this one. Colors that it displays I do not know. But most likely green and red.

only colours I have seen when I used the one are green and red
I thought I saw some video where it blinks color white. Perhaps it's just a video issue but I don't know.
Review on The Verge says it has the LED and can be customized:
http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/11/4086390/htc-one-review
Per it
"There’s a notification LED embedded in the top speaker grille, which shows when you have a message, a missed call, and the like — you can customize it, too, to only see what you want to see."
But does not say anything on the color though.

Notification light Color

Since HTC named their phone the one like the geniuses they are it's hard to get details on if it's the same light from one X, green and amber.
Anyone know? I might not get it if it's not multicolored like every other major android phone. Like to customize that and the other lights are better.
Sent from my One X using xda premium
I've read it's not multicolor like Samsung phones, apparently it's just like 3 colors... amber, green and yellow? I'm not sure. But it's not multicolor like you're thinking.
My One X only did green and red, not amber? Interesting..
Sent from my XT925 using xda premium
Yeah, shame it's not multi colour. With Samsung you can't customise the colours by default anyway, and the apps you can use to modify the notifications are buggy at best.

Lol what?? Not At their level just because it doesn't have the colors of the rainbow as LED colors. Haha get out of here. What's the point of so many colors? You need one color to let you know battery is low(red) and one for notifications and to let you know battery is charged(green).
Most ridiculous complaint ever.

there is a file somewhere which you just have to push different numbers to using the echo command.
Think there are loads of apps that do this.
I've only seen the light as amber for charging and green for fully charged.
The RGB notification LED of say the Galaxy S3 was good, what always bugged me was the lack of native support by Android. Apps that allowed you to customise them always caused excessive wakelocks and I never liked their subsequent effect on battery life. I'll care about LED's if Android can support them natively (hoping that would have a little to no effect on battery life) otherwise they add little value in my eyes.

Thanks for a really positive reply... Yes it does bother me... A lot as it's stupidly loud/strong and it's a basic feature that should be included in the stock rom! I like a discrete vibration for my notifications... What's wrong with that?
Plus it's a software feature that could be easily implemented... I'm not asking for any hardware miracles... I'm glad to move away from Samsung (and I am a big Samsung fan) because of their cheap looking plastic construction... I also want htc to do well as its good for competition... They've won me with the hardware but there are certain things that bug me which i miss and want a work workaround

That's what I don't like when companies try to impose rather than giving customer the choice...that's why I don't have an iPhone because Apple are very stubborn and impose their stupid ways onto their customers! Android is meant to be different as it's open source and customisable...
I also miss the shortcut toggles in the notification bar but I've read somewhere that mods are available...

If Faux cooked up an app for us to be able to calibrate our screens, would you use it? I for one would and I'd imagine that every user in the Nexus 7 forums would jump aboard.
What I'm basically doing is getting a show of hands. Maybe if Faux would see this, he'd jump on it. I'd easily pay $5 for such an app. These screens are horribly calibrated out of the box as you all know..

Yea colors, contrast, brightness and gamma.
Some people get lucky and get a screen they're satisfied with like yourself, but some of us aren't so lucky.
For example my N7s gamma is too high and everything is overly bright or has a bloom effect so to speak. Essentially making reading text a task. Stressful on my eyes, etc.

Then sir please explain me why the n4 which has a IPS LCD can be calibrated. The only reason we can't calibrate it is because the devs can't find an interface (kernel) to change the colors like it is with the n4 (or amoled devices) . Seems like nvidia and Asus went cheap on this one... I hope there will be some changes for the new Android version.

Calibrating this screen is simply not possible because the interface is not there. The only way to calibrate is using the specialized software from the factory, which we obviously don't have. It will never be possible in the kernel, unless google/asus adds it (unlikely).

Amoled always has calibration info to mess with due to how they work (no backlight) and their infancy requiring calibration.
Samsung devices almost always have calibration info, probably due to touchwiz and their display modes feature.
Nexus 4 users just got lucky. Google made a source change to emphasize yellows, leaving code for the devs to play with and now understand.

Android 4.3

I know I am to be taken with a grain of salt, I am a corporate store technician and talked to our HTC rep today. She is saying that Sprint decided to skip 4.2.2 and go right to 4.3 with its upgrade to the HTC One. I also got to look at the red version today as well and I am going to see about trading my black one for the red. She did not give any timeframe of when the 4.3 update will come out.

I think that's just overexposure. It may also be a combination of white balance and overexposure. It is common with any type of digital camera to have uncommon colors. One major reason is because of the digital white balance correction.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
I don't know what you guys are say'n..That Phone is clearly pink....
The first picture is inaccurate. The second one is right.
If the problem is overexposure, then that means the tap to focus doesn't work very well. I always tap on my subject, yet I have several pictures where the reds look orange. I shouldn't have to mess around other than having to tap on my subject to get the right exposure etc.
EDIT: Whatever, it's OK.
The red One still looks sick, especially with the black accents.
I was just messing around man..The phone looks hot..But unless Sprint and HTC do something about the radio it's just another one..Thanks for the pics though.
That is because of the way the digital light meter reads the scene. Again, this is an issue that plagues even professional cameras both film and digital. This issue often crops up in difficult lighting situations with a lot of contrast. Hope this helps explain a little. Also the red one looks sweet!

If Sprint releases the Red HTC One with 4.2.2, we would already have it on ours. There's nothing different in those internals than what's on ours. They can't control the update to the device based on color. It will release with 4.1.2.
