I can't open any file for the purpose of flashing. I have tried 4 different Rom zip files. (I get an E: can't open zip file error) It doesn't matter whether It is on usb storage thru an OTG cable or on internal storage. I was able to flash a much smaller zip file (the superwipe zip). I don't know what to do. Any ideas?
I am unlocked and rooted and using twrp recovery although same issue with CWM recovery.
I would first make sure its not zip.zip
Rename the file and try it.

Hey all, i have been trying for a couple days not to flash various .zip rom builds to my I9000m (i know people who have the M and have had no problems doing what i'm trying to do.)
So here's the deal, i have a stock jh2 build on the phone (have reflashed and repartitioned several times, to no avail)
i have rooted with OCLF, installed rom manager, installed clockwork (latest) and i can boot in to clockwork recovery, but every time i try to flash a .zip i get the error
Finding update package...
opening update package...
E:Can't read /sdcard/....zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
i get the same result when trying to flash from the stock recovery as well. (2e)
However, i had no problem flashing the .zip for clockwork and OCLF root, and i have no problems flashing with odin.
HALP!
no love?
10char
Are you selecting the update zip from inside rom manager or in clockwork recovery?
I would boot into clockwork recovery and select install from sd card there and see if you can select the zip unless of course this is what you have been doing
Also you could download the zip again as it may have gotten corrupted
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
Edit...forget to give some love
yeah, i have done all that, manually selected the zip most of the time, tried 3 different zips from 3 different builds.
That is odd...i am not sure what to say now other than flashing a rom through odin
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
any idea how to convert a rom to .tar so i could do that? i have no problem flashing through odin, i just have no availability to jp6 or jpa roms... they're all .zip
Guess it's the 3e recovery that doesn't let you apply sdcard:update.zip.
If it is the issue with 3e, then the message would say signature not verified when trying to use an unsigned zip
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
make sure the update.zip is at the root of /sdcard/
are you able to access your internal sd card?
remove the external SD card just in case
it might be a defective internal SD card if it can not see the internal SD when you boot into recovery mode
I don't and have never had 3e, I don't get an unsigned error in either stock or clockwork, I do have the files in the root of /sdcard no problem accessing /sdcard through windows explorer.
I want to up to some cook rom, i rooted, unloked bootloader, flash boot.img. First time, in recovery mode, i can't turn on usb mass store, but i can choose zip file. I used cmd to "adb push" rom file into sdcard. When it's completed and reboot, i can't acces sdcard. Now, my XL just stop at Hboot and recovery mode. Help me Sorry if my english is not good
why on earth are u pushing a rom insted of flashing from recovery ?
go to recovery,
mount sd card
copy zip file to sd card
unmount sd card
install zip from sd card
if this is not fixing sd card then u need to change vold.fstab in \system\etc\ if u are running hboot 1.25 or 6.25 then change it to 33 and only the number, if u arre running 1.28 or 6.28 then it is 34.
when this is corrected save the file and reboot.
u need to use an app like es filexplorer that can give u write permission to system files.
or else there is a zip file u can flash according to the hboot u are on. if not i will make one for u.
but try the other things first
Og you are using touch recovery it is full of bugs, try flashing ics recovery via xl multitool found in dev section and do what I wrote

how can i flash zip file without sdcard available? can you give me some steps? ^^
here u go : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
just instead of rom use the zip file i gave u
or u can use this zip file View attachment 1459318
unpack it to the root folder on C:/ and boot phone to recovery and then open runme.bat
then flash zip from sd card and then u have the correct vold.fstab
The easiest way to flash the zip is to get into the Recovery, mount SD card, and after that you flash in the nromal way.
If the SDcard is not available in the Android ROM this doesn't mean it is not available in the Recovery, so use Recovery Folks, if you have a recovery that does not support mount usb, then use QTAdb while in recovery to get you zip to the sdcard.
This is as easy as pepsi (masked comercial)
that is also what i am telling him ? push it via adb to sd card and flashing via recovery?

i can push it into sdcard, but when i choose zip file from sdcard, it's say "can't mount sd card". I copy vold.fstab that you give into /system/etc but sdcard still can't mount. Now recovery screen is black, can't see anything. oh my god. I used QTadb, but i can't flash zip, when click on it, nothing happen

Hey Guys.
I'm in a bit of ****.
I did my first rom flash yesterday, and all worked well. However the system would reboot once every 12 or so hours.
I noticed when I did CWM Recovery 5.5, that the total data wipe failed, but I researched that it was an issue, and had been fixed in CWM 6.0
The rom description said that if a total data wasn't done, you would have problems.
So I flashed 6.0, and did the CWM Recovery again with all the wiping options, but when I went to 'install zip from sd card', the file wasn't there. I assumed that the contents of the card wouldn't move, or be deleted, but it obviously was.
Now when I followed the original guide on XDA, I did the backup as stated, but it must not have worked, as in restore it's telling me there's no backup file found.
So at the moment, all i'm getting is the Samsung Galaxy S3 loading screen, but it's not going beyond that.
All I can access is CWM, and the Downloading screen.
What can I do to get my phone accessible again?
Thanks
plug your phone to PC (with downloaded ROM)
go to cwm -> mounts and storage -> mount usb storage. Now you should see Phone SD card on your PC. Put ROM in main folder uplug and flash.
if it doesn't help you should flash via odin (at download mode) 3 file ROM (f.e. JW1) with pit512 and re-partition checked, then flash kernel with cwm and start fun with cwm flashing.
Keep your ROMs and gapps and kernels etc on microSD next time
I do that so when I flash a new ROM I just wipe and format everything. I know its not necessary to format SD, I just do it anyway to clean up folders from old apps etc.

you boot the phone to custom recovery and use adb push to get the rom on the phone
adb push rom.zip /sdcard
just be sure the rom.zip is in the same folder as adb
Hi!
I have downloaded the zip file from xda. When i went into recovery mood i cleared the cache and data when i tried to install the zip from sd card.... the zip was not found.
Now when i try to switch on mobile it goes into recovery mood.
Any solution to it plz help...!!!!
Awaiting for your response....
It does help stating which phone you have, either the normal 5570 or 5570i, as both phones vary a lot under the shell.
I assume you are using stock ROM and kernel, as you appear to be new to this.
When you downloaded the zip file, did you download it directly into your phone? If so, then the file stays in /sdcard/download. As the stock recovery does not display all the folders in /sdcard, the download folder cannot be seen or accessed. Hence, as a guideline, shift all flashable zips to the root of your sdcard (/sdcard) to allow your recovery to access and flash these zip files.
However, I am not too sure why your phone is unable to boot as you have (apparently) only wiped data and cache.
