This morning I noticed that when I would go into my camera app, I would get a black screen instead of the feed to the camera, showing the normal buttons and such that would make up the camera app. It would stay on for a few seconds and then return to the main screen. I have attached a screenshot of what the issue looks like.
I originally thought this was an issue with Android Revolution 10.2, but I have since installed a different ROM with no solution. Any help would be appreciated!

I feel as though I should follow up with an update. I'm not sure if its necessarily symptomatic of trying to go to a newer firmware, but it seems no matter what I do I do not have camera functionality. I had installed probably five roms, including the latest Cyanogonmod to see if the camera will work, to no avail. Currently I had unrooted my phone and returned it to stock, and will most likely attempt to get back warranty (although the bootloader says relocked, which may be a problem).
Does anyone know of a way to get the bootloader back to saying "locked", or has had experience with getting a warranty replacement despite "relocked" being on the screen?

I have a problem with my camera. Everytime I open the camera app the preview screen is filled with pink/purple horizontal lines. I can't take photos with it, if I try I hear the click sound but the picture is never saved on my SD card. If I put my finger on the camera lens, the preview screen goes dark so it's 'seeing something' and then distorting it.
I'm trying to get a picture of the phone while it's doing this.
I'm running CM7 nightly 85
Anyone know if it's hardware related.
P.S. It's not the pink photo problem that is fixed by pushing on the camera
Edit : Now I can't even reproduce the bug. Phone says cannot connect to camera

My Sony T1 did this and for that...it was hardware failure. (did you drop or spill anything on your phone?) I guess you can try multiple ROMs. Try the MIUI ROM to see if it does the same thing...and keep your fingers crossed.
I didn't spill anything on it. But I use the camera every month or two so maybe I did but don't remember. Gonna try another ROM.
ok after a Temasek extreme wipe and a sd card wipe rodriguez MIUI is rebooting 10 secs after loading up.... (pretty sure it makes my phone overheat as it's really hot)
Installed CM7 7.0.3, I get the pink screen again.
Installed CM6 6.1.1, I get a black screen / forced close.
Modaco gives a FC / Camera not responding
Gonna try Formels MIUI...
What radio/baseband are you using (the 2 sets of numbers after the underscore "_"... something like 4.06 or 5.08)? I have seen issues with people using the cameras on Gingerbread when using the 4.06 radio.
If you are running 4.06, I would highly recommend updating it to 5.08 (which is the radio version Google included in the Gingerbread OTA update).
I have the 5.08. I was able to take a video with it. Of course it was only pink scanlines but it means something is still working inside the lens.
But I'm tired of trying to make it work. I will probably try to ship it back to HTC.

It is beginning to sound like a hardware issue anyway. Hopefully you get it back fast.
i have a nexus one. i had the same camera problem.
it started after i dropped my phone, it was the first time.
i was able to take pictures after that but objects were in pink and purple color tones.
i was hopeless searching, hoping to find people who has problems...
suddenly i decided to hit back of the phone couple times and it fix the problem.
i know it sounds crazy but it worked...
i think it is the best think to do before you send your phone to htc...
Got a strange issue here. My camera was working fine on JB (stock rom & also on KnoxRaid 2.6). After the kitkat v2 release of Knoxraid I decided to give it a try. Everything is perfect except whenever I open the camera I get "Warning - Camera Failed". I restored back to mj5 thinking it was maybe a hardware thing but no, the camera works perfectly on stock mj5. So I decided to test Knoxraid 2.6 (non kitkat version) and again, camera work fine. I have asked Drakeymcmb what he thinks about the issue, but I think it has even him stumped. He suggested I try the other kitkat rom leaked by designgears. So again I restored back to mj5 and then tried the designgears leak. No luck, camera failed. I have wiped my internal memory and tried everything I can think of. I am hoping maybe someone has run into this issue and knows a fix?? Please help!! Thanks!
Not having any camera failing, but I'm experiencing a pretty substantial lag after taking a photo.
When i hit the shutter button, my screen will say "Processing". If the camera moves AT ALL before the "processing" is done, the picture will be blurry -it almost looks like I've moved the camera during exposure.
Anyone else having this problem?

I notice that as well. I just turn the smart stabilization off and problem solved. Turn it back on when you wanna take pic in the dim light situation and be prepare to hold the phone still.

Thanks!

Were really talking about 2 completely different issues here. I wish my problem was that the camera was too slow, but mine will not load at all...
Hello..
Really hope someone can help me, as I'm starting to loose my patience
So whenever I take a picture ( have tried with Google Camera, snap camera + open camera) the images get rotates 90 or 180 degrees.
I have tried on 3 roms (stock + root) Sinlessrom (based on google) and a AOSP rom. All same result.
It just suddently started appening like 1 week ago, I did not flash anything, so maybe google updated something through the playstore?
Anyway, REALLY hoping for som help.
Nexus 6 international version.
This happened to me also, it is a Hardware Defect. Your gyroscope in your phone is broken, and your phone's warranty will allow you to get a free replacement.

Damn, is this really the only possible solution?
The weird thing is, whenever I reset my device it works for maybe 5 mins undtil all updates are downloaded, then its wrong again. Same if I downgrade google camera from 2.5.x to 2.4.x it then works for like 10 mins. No idea what is going on
Stock, unrooted, newly purchased Moto G5S Plus. I'm having an issue with the camera. It seems to not want to focus (or un-blur) 90% of the time. The other 10% (during which I have no idea what sort of magic I've done) it takes wonderful photos. I've tried third-party apps, clearing the cache in recovery, and Safe Mode. I'm upset and Motorola doesn't seem to want to help me. I'm just outside the return period (thanks for that, Motorola!) and am wondering what the community here thinks? I can always try to root and install a custom ROM but I don't know if that will help.
Hey so I've discovered if I tap my knuckles against the back of my phone either on or near the rear camera the picture immediately clears. The issue keeps happening and the tapping trick keeps working -- the tapping trick does not result in the picture going blurry again so I'm guessing it's an issue with software and not hardware. Just wanted to throw this out there in case someone else was having the same problem.
Motorola did tell me to send the phone back, but this was before I tried tapping it. I really don't want a used phone (this is my first new phone in like forever) so I'm tempted to just keep it as-is and hope the tapping keeps working.
Picture processing is terrible on this phone...
And it doesn't seem this phone is having good camera sensors..
Pictures come out blurry most of the times...
Anyways you can always try gcam after flashing a 64bit rom...

Tapping on the phone causing proper focus would indicate a hardware problem. You should return under warranty.
Hello. I just bought a Huawei Mate 20 lite, and I immediately noticed that when the notification menu is pulled down, the background (the part of the screen that's visible under the menu, not the menu itself) is flickering. I tried lowering the resolution to HD+, down from FHD+ and the problem seems to disappear. Any ideas as to what that would be? If it is a hardware bug, I can return the phone and ask for another one, or maybe if there is a fix anyone knows of, and this little "bug" here doesn't turn into a bigger problem overtime, I can just apply that.
Thank you very much and have a nice evening.
The same happens to me and not only that. If i left the phone in the same screen for a few minutes and pull down the notification bar or any other dark (not black) screen the screen looks like is burned.
Hio, i have exactly the same, i don't know why they would do something like that but, i don't think its some hardware damage or unwanted either since on other backgrounds if you want so, or other screens it doesn't happen for me, as far as i can see only happens on home screen etc... Also a friend from me has exactly the same with different firmware... Don't know about the burned looking part from 2nd post, definitely don't have that!
Greetings

Looks like a dynamic contrast issue to me. Go to settings, display, color mode and pick normal. That might fix it.

Hello friend, I tried what you recommended, but to no avail. My biggest concern is whether this might be a hardware issue, or it's most certainly a software one - if it's a software issue i wouldn't be bothered at all and i'd just wait for an update or even put a pure android on it, but if it is indeed a hardware issue, i need to know so I can return the phone.

Try it out?
Install a different firmware, roll back to the oldest firmware or something like that. Change your backgrounds, try it out with different apps, play around with screen testing apps. Even if someone here has a similar problem and it's hardware related, yours might still be something different. It's hard to tell over a forum.
Good luck with "pure Android" though, this phone will cost you quite some bucks to just get unlocked and there's merely any support for AOSP ROMs (maybe not even the littlest bit, I didn't look at OpenKirin yet since the phone is so expensive to unlock lol)

Does installing new firmware (I'm currently using EMUI 8.something) v oid warranty? I still haven't gotten the official update to 9 and I'm thinking of just installing it manually myself.
