Hi Everyone,
I know there are numerous posts on here and other sites about how to root your galaxy ace but I have tried them all and nothing seems to work. I have struggled with the phone for the last 17 months. I am due an upgrade in January. The lack of memory and poor performance does my head in. This is my first Android device. I hope newer devices are better else I will try to get an iPhone when I upgrade (or even win mobile).
When I try to root I either get:
"Error in /sdcard/upd_1.zip (status 7) Installation aborted
or
it says installation complete and when I reboot there is nothing to indicate a successfully rooted phone.
I have tried numerous downloaded files such as root, zip, upd_1.zip, update.zip etc and nothing I download seems to do the job.
I tried the Jelly Bean Cyanogen rom for a while but I found it even slower. Ideally I will stick with Gingerbread but I need to remove all the bundled crap. I have already moved as many apps as I can to sd card using the "SetInstallLocation 2" command which helped but I still hate this phone as it is.
Can someone PLEASE help before I pull out what little hair I have left.
Thanks
You can flash a new ROM but can't root?
Just flash a pre-rooted stock ROM. Then delete system apps you don't need. Tada!

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. I just downloaded universal_gb_root and it seemed to go okay. Lots of text flashing up screen then message saying something like "your phone now has root access - enjoy"
I restarted fully expecting it to have worked but alas, it is just the same. I then installed root checker from play store which confirms that "this device does not have proper root access."
I will have another look tomorrow after work. (if not chucked phone out car window by then)
How can tesco advertise this phone as "great for app lovers and gamers!" Yeah, if you only want a handful at any one time - grrrr

Sorry to hear that. My phone´s root was done long ago with one of those solutions that didnt work on your phone. So if you dont want to continue to look for a way to root, you can simply install a custom rom that already has root
I dont know stock rom´s already rooted, you have que wait for ironman to show you, But there are custom rom´s based on stock rom´s in this forum. Sorry coulnd be more helpful
[EDIT btw you did open superSU and upgrade the SU binary, or it didnt have superSU at all, after root?

hello searched the web and found this site that is guaranteed to be updated.
Tested the download and installation on my PC and it works, however, have not experienced in S5830 cause I already have root. You might want to find someone who has successfully used
Hi,
I didn't have superSU at all. No new icons or anything indicating root. Thanks for the suggestions. I will try when I get a minute.
Try My Blog.
www.andro-sapien.blogspot.in.
Root procedure is given and that file there actually works. Tested by me n many other people.

I recently updated my OB to the v10c software version. I'm not sure what region it is but I believe it is the europe open v10c? After I installed Gingerbreak 1.20, I tried to root my phone. It just displays the 'running exploit' message & this goes on for more than 20 minutes. I believe this means I am unable to root my OB? Is there an alternative solution to this?
more and more people are asking same things, why don't you research ?

Well, I did what you told me to but I still wasn't able to root my phone. I tried using all versions of SuperOneClick available but always failed at the step where I entered "adb push superuser, apk \tmp\" in the CMD.EXE. When I enter this line, I get an error message 'Protocol failure' and my phone reboots. I know a couple of users has the same problem as I do & a few of them has a solution. But it's pretty complicated for me to understand and to do..Is there a clearer solution to this?
Did you try all the solutions shared ?

I read in another thread to try using different versions of SuperOneClick e.g. 1.7, 1.9.5, 2.1 etc. So i tried all of it but it just rebooted my phone at "adb push superuser.apk \tmp\.
I believe there was another solution suggested but it was a bit complicated for me to try out. So I didn't try it as I wasn't confident about it :/
Did you try as example "my method" ? It's simple.

dude even i have the exact problem of protocol failure. even i updated my firmware from v10d to v10e europe open but still the same prob. actually my phone got wet so lg service replaced me a new phone udated already to v10d, is that the prob does new OB has some new security or something. damn i am y totaly pissed of by this rooting issue i am so eager to install cm7 or NOVA, pls for god sake somebody help us.
Hey guys just a quick update. I managed to root my OB with llko's upgrade kit
It took less than 10 minutes for me to root my phone, so many thanks to llko.
dpockets, I had the same problem as you, the 'protocal failure' error message. Try llko's upgrade kit from the 'android development' section. Use the SuperOneClick and SRP. It should root your phone in no time. Read the txt files inside for instructions to Root & install CWM.
p.s. Just for your information, I had to use the SRP(reset) application in order for the files to be pushed to my OB successfully, so yeah, in case the SRP application doesn't work, try the SRP(reset) application. Most importantly, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FILE GIVEN. Follow the steps closely
Once again, thanks a million llko!
Thanks to you too
I made an update so now it's even more easier and should work for all version (need feedbacks)

Ilko, do u think about making an .apk (like Ginerbreak) so we don't need to use a PC?
It would be great to have an easy .apk to root.
hmm this may be doable, but my knowledge is limited to windows and NSIS and some of graph basics (script/dev related) I didn't really developped, all things I've made here was to assembly what I found. I know making packages (setups), rest of credits go to internet
Hi,
Excuse me but this is my first time here as well my first time having android device, and have no idea of it, i have a problem, i have galaxy note (Only 2 days) and i went to your forum to root my device (As i thought it is like jailbreak for my old iphone) and i downloaded the "CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5" as it was for my kernal vrsn, i followed the steps and all worked just fine...well after some friends got me worry about that rooting can damage your phone of am not aware of what i am doing, so i found a video of how to unroot using "DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING" and i followed the steps, so after i unroot one of those 2 icons was deleted, but CWM was not and each time i open it it says " CMW Manager needs SuperUser access to function ! If you have SU installed make sure CWM Manager is not blocked, then reboot and try again" so i use "DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING" again but nothing happened, then i use " CF-Root-SGN_ZS_MUL_KK1-v5.0-CWM5 " and clicked on (ALREADY ROOTED) and nothing changed then i thought that if again use (NOT ROOTED YET) then it will solve, but after the process finished, NOTHING CHANGED ONLY CWM icon is there.....
So i want to bring everything back to normal...HOW I CAN DO THAT..and please i am a beginner so please use easy steps with me....
Again Sorry for the inconvenience but have nooooooooooo idea what to do

Hey
Ive been rooted just two days now, im on stock ics 4.0.4 and i rooted using pc odin and the speedmod kernal that was flashed installed superuser and cwm. I have two questions....
However ive been getting a flashing message everytime my phone hangs or reboots saying *Shell has granted superuser permissions*
This message stays for afew mins but then stops. each time my phone hangs this message appears and then it tells me my launcher needs to close which is Nova launcher. ive gone into superuser and updated the binary and it still happends. I have to be honest and say my note likes to hang from time to time which i guess is normal for all note users lol.but this superuser is a joke and i wanna know if i can correct this with using the superUS from the play store instead??? Also superuser does not allow me permission sometimes but then sometimes it will, so i want this fixed ASAP.
Also that yellow triangle thing that is on my screen on recovery, i was told flashing through odin raises the counter but what does this mean? do i have to get rid of the trinagle or just leave it. cause i keep hearing you should and then some have said it does not affect the phone.
if i cant get this fixed, ill rather just unroot, cause i cant take all the parlava.
cheers folks!!!

These symptoms are may be of partial root, try root check as "alanccs" said, if it shows rooted, you can try changing superSu or updated busybox, and if that too doesn't helps, you have to flash stock GB ROM again, you can choose pre-rooted GB rom.

Right firstly appologise to the admin for posting earlier in the wrong thread, but gratitude for you patience and direction to getting me to the point where I currently am. which is.... Ive followed the tuts from getting my phone from the exclamationion/pc symbol, re-installed the correct firmware and followed the rooting tut. I am on 2.3.6 android version S5830NEKT2 baseband [email protected]#1 kernel version gingerbread build no:. my question is (and believe me I have searched all evening through the forums to try to gain the knowledge myself and leave the busy guys doing what they do best behind the scenes) I cant seem to unlock all the ****e apps that come pre-installed with the phone... all i want to do is free up phone memory, and maybe install a stable sci-fi fancy looking rom/SHELL. however when i try to uninstall/view or any thing via CWM/AppMaster/installmanager/ESfileexplorer I keep getting the same message about my phone "MUST BE ROOTED" first. I did get the message at the end of rooting via the tuts and was told to thank the guy... which I did (and still do) can anyone tell me where I went wrong? I am at present thinking that maybe installing a custom ROM (currently looking at cryogen latest) would resolve my hassles am I correct?
I am extremely gratefull for you chaps on XDA for getting me this far and hope I dont come across any other way. I would be content with at least having my phone working thanks to you guys but, just cant shake the feeling I am a midges **** off from sorting the root problem can anyone help me....
ps... had a few beers so am off to bed to sleep on it for now... I have a shed load of kids and a moaning wife with a list of jobs todo over the weekend,so I will get back to this during nxt week sometime. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated...
FRANKLY MY PHONE IS NEARLY AS OLD AS ME.. AND IM SURPRISED THE SUPPORT IS STILL OUT THERE

I have tried using ES via the phone but there dosnt seem to be any files in the root folder to delete.
i mean is the app called "Root Explorer"
go to /system/app, that is where the system app located...
what do you mean there is no any files?
Ok, I hope I don't get in trouble for asking this here. . I tried to search but I'm not real good on this phone yet. . That's no excuse, I know. ..
I searched for root in a few forums and didnt come back with much but a bunch of trouble from people in this help forum.
I haven't rooted or installed a custom rom in about 4 years now, so I am weary about it. For now, I just want to get it rooted so I can remove or freeze some stock bloatware.
It says it is a 32G device but when I look at the storage, it says System Memory is using the minimum amount of storage space required to run the system,, 7.59G? Is this correct? I take it that is including all my installed apps along with bloatware? But then it says "Used Space",, 4.67G.. <--What is that?
Anyway.
I am wondering if there is an easy way to root my device without installing a custom kernel AND not require a pc?
If I have to use a custom kernel, which one is the most stable?
My device specs are
SM-N910T3
Android 5.1.1
LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2
KNOX 2.4.1
I have data turned off on my phone and disabled data from my carrier. I use WiFi and no data. .
Again I'm sorry for asking this but it's been a real long time since I have installed custom anything and my pc blue screens randomly so I'm afraid to try rooting my phone that way.
Please, step by step, easy tutorial or a link to where I need to go?
Thanks a bunch.

So if you just want to freeze system apps root is not required. Go to the below link and follow the instructions

Glad you're up and running, amazing how even a simple usb cord can be a factor between a half brick and a fully functional phone.
Samsung is going out of there way to make this new generation of phones as difficult as possible to mess with.
Pp.
I jacked my phone up at 3am last night.. Tried to change a theme, noticed that the font didnt change, so I opened Rom Toolbox Pro(which I paid for) and selected a font from the font installer there. Halfway through the progress bar, the screen goes black. then it vibrates and reboots and starts to instantly give me "unfortunately Samsung Keyboard Has Stopped Working.." and would pop up immediately after I would click "OK" to close it.
So, hmmm, What happened? I have a different keyboard that I had to choose for the input to get the popups to stop from Samsung Keyboard.
I got no clue what happened so I go into Rom Toolbox again and I try to "restore" my factory fonts, thinking that maybe Samsung Keyboard didnt like the font I chose to install..
So half way through the restore the font installer hangs on a font called "Roboto" then the phone reboots. So I think its that font roboto,,, which I didnt chose to install in the first place.. So I go into Rom Toolbox "Root Browser" and find all the roboto fonts and delete them and reboot my phone.
Now 95% of the text on my screen are just boxes.. I dont know how to make that character on here but its just a square for the letters. Crap! lol
ok, so I go into rom toolbox again and to the restore, and it worked this time, but Samsung Keyboard still closing faster than it can open.
I search google for my error message, didnt find much, some here, some there,, then I find this video on youtube showing me how to install the S/6 keyboard, that looks exaxtally the same, so I try it.
The vid says to replace 2 files in the system folder with a root browser, 1 APK and 1 lib/java.so file. So I used Rom Toolbox Root Browser and attempted to move the .apk file and when it said "replace" or "keep both" I chose "keep both" and it gave me a progress spinner but it never did anything. I tried to copy/paste, move, everything I could try. So then I thought I should rename the original file to .bak but when I tried that, it said "....bak file already exists.." But I couldnt see it in the folder. So I renamed it to "....apk.blind" and it let me do that but still wouldnt let me move, copy/paste the new apk I downloaded.
So I tried it with the other file and the same thing happened.. ended up naming it .blind at the end.
Not thinking at all about it, I reboot the phone.. Now it just goes into a reboot loop.
I think this post is more of a vent because of my frustration right now.. I tried to flash the "Maximum Overdrive" rom but in TWRP, if I choose the "check file Integrity" or whatever that is,, it fails right away.. Which scares me because I could have a corrupt rom because this PC blue screens CONSTANTLY.. I am suprised it hasnt bsod'd while I am writing this..
Speaking of that, I better hit "Post" now... lol
Actually, I am having a hell of a time finding my stock firmware.. I am searching for LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2.. Should I be searching for something else? I cant find a file to flash with odin or twrp anywhere.
I guess I will try to flash a different custom rom?
Anyone have LMY47X.N910T3UVU1DOK2? Perty Please? or is that even the file I should be looking for?
Edit) Nevermind I think,, I found a stock rom with custom kernal and root.. Trying it now.
