Atrention Moderators. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

This is no way a bashing thread towards the moderators here. All I ask that if you're going to close or delete threads please give us notification of why. I know people have a habit of posting in the wrong area and the thread has to be moved. But if I open up a thread which I did about 2 days ago basically saying thank you and expressing my like for this forum and the people who make it all possible why would my thread get deleted without any reason of why it was deleted? Especially if I didn't break any rules or cause flamming or trolling.
I love the 90s good times

I've seen them post reasons for closing threads, but I can see it being very time consuming to post a reason every time. If it was closed recently, I bet they thought your thread could have been posted in our nifty new off topic lounge ([OFF TOPIC LOUNGE] The Four Galaxies) or the New Forum Request thread. We all want to thank somebody, but I don't think a new thread is necessary. Just my two cents...

Would the mods consider that thread to be official? I wouldn't think so. At least not enough to expect us to post certain things there. Not sure how thank you threads are treated considering all the bashing lately.
That being said Kenny does a great job so if it was him I'm sure he had a good reason. Not to single any mods out over others... Just my dealings with him has been great. And he is fast at getting back to you.

I saw there wasn't a topic in this section that was for general discussion. Lots of threads were getting locked, moved and deleted. I thought it would be good to have a place where people could post off topic stuff without getting reprimanded. I asked Kenny for his permission to start the thread and he said it was okay. So I started it.

At this point, I'm certain they do expect us to post certain things in there that aren't relevant to already opened, much needed, topics. That thread will help declutter our forums & keep us from opening unnecessary threads (I.e. "this forum is dead" thread).

100% support. Like I said above, it will help everyone from opening unnecessary threads and declutter our forums. It will even benefit newbs/noobs, making everything easy to access, find & understand.

Stop it guys you are embarrassing me...lol.
@E The Magnificent it is entirely possible your thread was deleted for the reasons mentioned here.....or maybe your spelling J/K.
And my PM "door" is always open so similar questions can be asked directly to me if you like.
But yes the Off-Topic lounge opened by @oscarthegrouch is the official lounge for this device and please post there anything not device specific.
Thanks Oscar for doing that.

Objections to new user posts

Does anyone else not like that new users cannot post in the developers forum until u have posted atleast ten post in the general forum?

Yeah, most new users come here to ***** about it, untill they realize that it's not that hard to get 10 posts

Nope, not at all. I had made 5 or 6 posts before even hearing about said rule. Then again, I'm not a developer, so I likely won't be posting in the hallowed forum where the collective genius does it's cogitations.

Come on guys, It's only 10... Not like 100 or anything
Really not that big of a deal imo.

What you've done here, is make a thread complaining about the 10 post requirement, so noobs can feign interest to get 10 posts and spam the development forums. In all honesty, senior members (who can be trusted) should need to approve of them. Or mods. But there would be too much for the mods to approve. Hence the trustworthy seniors.
I've mentioned this before, but look how you can make a difference with your first 10 posts, like this guy did!...

It is a developers forum after all so it's all about the contributions you can make. I'm sure you'll be contributing in time too. Have a read of some guides and wikis, browse some theme threads and thank the people for their efforts. You'll be well on your way within an hour!

True, but look at the majority of members with less than 10 posts. Yes, there is a minority with something decent to contribute, but these people are either long time lurkers or spend most of their time in other forums.

nah, keeps us from making a$$ of ourselves right away.
a noob on this forum may be a senior on another.. anyway, 10 posts is not a big thing.
the irony is, when the ROM creator asks for feedback, you find that you cant post on that thread!!
Edit: This is my 10th post!! Jailbreak!
I personally disagree quite strongly with it. When it was first being discussed I was under the impression that new users would not be able to create threads in the dev forums, and I was all for that. Then I realised it was not that, and suddenly the Q&A, and sometimes General, forums are filled with people asking for help flashing a ROM. My usual response is "ask in the ROM thread - the rules of XDA state not to make a new thread if there's an existing one", and they quite correctly respond that they're not allowed.
Basically, this new rule has made the Q&A and General threads even more disorganised than they already were.
I don't like it either, posting 10 posts is not easy
To all you noobs out there:
1. Read. <- You have two eyes, but ten fingers. Stop for a sec, read first before typing ANYTHING.
2. Respect. <- Most of us have gone through a lot. We've done a lot. We've contributed a lot. You have not earned the right to come in screaming, and neither have you earned the right make demands. Most of the people here do it for free. Be grateful, and worship the devs as they are meant to be.
Quite annoying i agree.. i have some nice solutions on android dev for miui on dhd..but i have tö nag up ten nonsense posta herr firat.

I'm only at 7 and I want to post in a ROM Thread to point out some bugs which sucks that I have to wait before I can post a bug, but it's only 10 posts which is easy to get. I guess it helps with spam and people posting the same question or problem that's been posted before.

Moderators moving treads all over the place

OK I am fairly new here, But I can now see why alot of people are leaving this forum and going to others. One main gripe i have is moderators up and moving posts all over the place. Ill be coming back to check a post and then all of a sudden its gone? no idea where it went have to dig through 20 topics to find it. lots of this going on as of late.
Not to mention some of my own posts moved for no reason, well at least not ones that make sence. Had one moved from general to off topic why? my post was a general post about tblet and phone things it wasent an off topic post.
also had a post for the acer iconia a500 moved from the acer iconis a500 forum becasue it was a question??? Um would not people looking for questions and answers about the iconia go look in that section? No ones gonna go to the q&a section to look for my acer iconia spacific topic. makes no sence that it was moved.
I have noticed a few devs have also abandoned xda becasue of the silliness here and moved to other forums.
OK so let me know where your gonna move this topic too ok I put it in off topic sooo. I guess im not off topic enough?
Everything ends up in OT eventually.
General section is more general and relates to some "useful" or "serious" information or discussion. OT is mainly meta topics or spam parties or jokes or happy-fun time.
Questions are ALWAYS in Q&A section, unless the question is not a question and is more of a rant.
Did I answer you enough?
p/s: Don't mess with the mods.

If your post/thread was moved most likely it was rightly so. Devs are not leaving XDA because of threads are being mved...devs are leaving because of many reasons, one being noobs posting in Dev when they should not be. We are very strict when it comes to where something goes...and soon to be more strict. We have a method to our madness...if you are confident that something you have posted was in the right area, I would suggest sending a PM to your forum moderator. You can find the list in my sig if you are not sure who that is.
And to add to the TRM post....if a MOD moved any thread, an automated PM is sent to the OP of such thread sooooooo, your accusation/rant/complain is futile and irrelevant
I call for closing this thread...question has been answered already and as Apu says: "Thank you, come again!!"

How do I POST replies in DEVELOPMENT Forums?

I have an Atrix 4G and a fair bit of knowledge on it. These forums are really good, but it would be useful if I could reply to threads in the atrix development. I have answers and questions, but I don't know if I need to be approved or something like that in order to post in the forums.

Since you are past 10 posts now you should be able to post there. If it still doesn't work in a few hours, then you might ping one of the mods in that forum to take a look at your account and see if there is some issue there.
You need 10 posts to post in development forums, which you can find out more about by looking at the links in my signature.
The server only updates permissions periodically so yours may not have been changed yet, but you have the required post count.
I've had a look at your posts and you're not a typical "10 post spammer" that we see a lot of in here, which is greatly appreciated, but it's still worth a reminder about the following things.
Don't create threads in Development forums unless it's to release software. Questions go in either a relevant existing thread, or a new one in the Q&A forum (or General forum if there's no device-specific Q&A forum). And on that note, always search thoroughly before asking. Nothing irritates other members more than seeing the same questions asked over and again.
Anyway, just bare the above in mind and go enjoy the forums. I'm just glad I don't have to delete a bunch of pointless posts

Yeah man I just want to contribute. Do I need a "thanks" or something like that ?
Also can an admin "approve me" or something like that? My only other question is the five minute between post wait can that be removed? For example I'm just waiting now to send this reply, it's no big deal, just wondering.
Also I posted a thread here asking basically the same question, I don't know how to delete it, but here's a link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783730

[XSola] Freedom of Internet (on XDA forums) >>> Discussion <<<

Hello community.
I am old fan of these forums (changed 5-6 phones over years) and always find it most usefull from all other over internet. Recenty I have feeling that this XDAdeveloper network became something they initial wanted to avoid and over the years they strugle with petitions etc.
THE FREEDOM OF INTERNET (and your right to speak free)
Fact: Threads are closed on every mimics and blinks of eyes all over the forums or posts deleted.
Please consider this as Discussion but not flaming and be gentle and polite to everyone who rise voice. What's are your thoughts?

Coz it was continuously being spammed wid useless posts so it was btr to close it off
There has to be a balance between freedom and rules
100% freedom means no rules and thus things going out of control
Xda is well managed
Rest of the internet... Is good until CIPSA is passed...
Edit - reported for mod review... Its btr we discuss phones and not our freedom on xda
This place has rules and its best to follow them

u noob are u craze
do u want to destroy the form i don’t agree
OP, yes Freedom of the Internet is just that, free to speak but with any organized sense of freedom there are rules to help govern or else it would be randomness/uselessness.
Regarding XDA, as with any forum there are Forum Rules and when Members violate them....then action is required. Maintaining a Forum of this size of Members is a task, but remember this is a Development Site, not a social site.
And as you seem to think your freedom is taken way with the maintenance that is required on the threads, keep in mind again the sole purpose of this site is for Development.
To OP - in short, I agree.
I've opened threads or discussed things which were deleted. Some mods I've communicated with were reasonable and fair but many were not. Communicating with some of them by PM, some were very angry, aggressive, unreasonable etc. I tell you, my nieces and nephews who are young seem calm and resonable by comparisson. Also, I'm quite sure a lot of 'support' goes on behind the scenes. Post number and thanks meter are currencies here, they go far beyond 'showing appreciation' etc. 'Might is right' that's the attitude of a bully or a dictator, not an authority . So, it's 'open' and 'democratic' only up to a point - where it suits particular people. The policies for complaining were equally a joke, in my experience. After that, I decided to keep my posts strickly related to my 'mod' interests and never get side-tracked again. When these people make you angry, remember to let it go, this is not the real world.
ok... i had four android devices: Defy, Xperia Sola, Nexus 7 and Razr I, still have three of this (sola, Razr I and Nexus 7).... Only in this forum i have seen this kind of constriction of users... i could give some examples: In Defy Android Development Forum, cm10 port for Defy, made by Quarx (maybe someone know him, he was the winner of the December contest for devs), there is a enormous flood of noobish post (how to install, stupid questions about fc's, stupid thanks posts, etc.) despite three or four threads in general sections for reporting bugs and other stuff correlated, but Quarx did deleted or close thread? No! Because he only focus in what really matter: Development. He ignores everything else. So, maybe, some devs could learn about this behaviour. And what mods tells about it? sometimes, they made a soft cleanup of useless post...that's all... Sometimes Closing thread doesn't help at all to the community.... I think mods maybe could take a more practical and polite position...

Cm10 thread was closed twice..reason because of spam..only posts such as thanks and great... Yippy... Etc etc
I reported the thread twice to b cleaned
There is a great inflow of members.. Every day 100 of noobs are added and merely few developers...
Useless posts really makes it difficult to find actually useful info..

U never knw what are u 'exactly' searching for... Upto the level of thread search performs good ... Within a thread and specifically for finding something useful... Its a pain
Dont u think it is necessary to prevent unnecessary posts and threads? Closing a useless or a mirror thread is necessary

Only if members of this forums were more kind and helpful to everyone we could avoid a lot of questions and together we could make more easy the job for the mods. Me too! I always have that problem, you try as best as you can.
I recently went to the discussion thread of the unofficial Sola Jelly Bean port. The discussion thread is now also closed. I contacted a mod to ask for information. There was no information in the thread! Next, we will be banned from discussing the discussion of the deleted thread...
dev should ignore newbies because its not the fault of all of us. we dont deserve to lose the scope of JB. and when i had my defy i only knew 1 god for my mobile.. Quarx.. he made things which were not possible without him. i though sola's god was better than him. but he is pissed off by few noobs.

Mods arent that hard...and never will be
How many of us have received any official warning?? None of us I guess bcoz we were smart enough to refrain ourselves from posting non sense... Bt not all have that sense...
We need to understand what mods do is best for the forum... We may be relatively new here bt not the mods.. Some have been here since the website was started... Some although 2-3 yrs old on website spends a lot of time here keeping the place clean n organized.
Unless u do something wrong u wont b caught...
Here at xda we are given several official warnings (sometimes just our post /thread deleted or locked n no warning) before being taken down by a mod...
Ok, good. This is discussion already...
I see people with yes and people with no policy but only because some n00b members don't know how to use this forum (don't forget that there is a lot of amount of young people here - under 15 probably) and they probably don't know how things are going here. If this is a BIG problem for forum moderators (huge amount of new members) I suggest to lift boundaries on "when someone can post something" - think about it... it would be less thanks posts and "yipee"-es.
Please continue...
Here are my thoughts:
I still don't understand why we're still whining about munjeni's lost. Yeah, it's painful and disappointing but guys, we should carry on. Since he has given permission to use his work from the "JB PORT Discussion thread" (can't give the link because the mods deleted it), we can start from what he has left. I don't know why's that the JB thread of thunder is still closed. I know nothing compares to munjeni in terms of developing but we still have great devs here and I still have faith in them. Not just because munjeni has left, the development on JB will stop. I know it's a painful lost but we can't do anything about it anymore, we can just learn from it so that we will not lose another dev again. Come on guys....seriously.
Move on and what? If you think people are whining perhaps you can't understand their motivations. I can understand at least two reasons:
1. As the OP says, there are questions of freedom of expression. An example of this which I mentioned was the thread closing (without information) of the discussion thread of those of using the unoffical Jelly Bean port which, is a bit excessive. This is a ROM on my phone now (and many, many other's) and we simply can't discuss it now. Next, we will be banned from discussing the thread closure of the disucssion on deleted ROM. That's when you know it's North Korea - you can't discuss anything. I think these concerns are valid, even if some don't.
2. You need to learn something when things go wrong, or they will repeat themselves. Simply 'moving on' guarentees a repeat of the same experience. That's why people are discussing it.

back on topic
well... Moderators deletes and close thread or comments its normal, its what they do.... they must have valid reason to take actions.
good thing, they are still human and not AI. if they are not here... we'll ended up something like demonoid. people will start posting what ever they want, links to paid apps that they rip or mod. Others will have hard time catching up with roms since everyone starts to copy each other work and claim its theirs....
in short... i dont agree freedom of internet in XDA

And WRONG SECTION. This is ANDROID DEVELOPMENT not Q&A where this belongs.
No its a little more complicated than that this is also related to development due to the fact that nobody's Got any kind of information

Development is for development of Roms, etc. You asked a question and are troubleshooting. There is a stickied post (the second one on the development page) that says "★ ☆ ✰ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting do not go in the Development Section. ✰ ☆ ★ "

XDA is for the development of ROMS, software, apks, etc. It is NOT to help you put your phone on another carrier. That has never been supported on XDA. There are websites that you can get the info on, but XDA isn't one of them.
Could have fooled me I been here for years and for years I have came here with different phones and different options if you can find one thing that "officially" says that flashing carriers on here isn't within the confines of this website then I swear to god I'll delete my account and never return
Damn trolls
Not only that I can guarantee you'll not only find nothing but that you will find PLENTY in support of it thanks have a nice day ADMIN PLEASE CLOSE THIS POST IM DONE I GIVE UP
Personally I would have suggested you just reflash the phone to stock, care to tell us how you resolved it to help someone in the future... It's not our fault you didn't follow forum rules.

Yeah this is a voluntary support site, no one gets paid to help you either. Ever think no one knew the answer to your problem? No one complained about you re posting your question after 24 hours, just posting it in the wrong section. Keep being clueless about it though.
I didn't repost it was moved by an admin dumb ass
And that's why I fixed it my self

Well you have been around long enough to know the Forum Ruls on posting, to which you agreed on when you signed up, but as you asked here are the violations you have done, BTW you can stand by...
Forum Rules
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please consider who is reading what you write and don't use profanity, sexually explicit language, rudeness or swearing. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street.
2.3 Flaming / Lack of respect: XDA is about sharing and this does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) or rudeness. Flaming or posting with a lack of respect is unacceptable. Treat new members in the manner in which you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instructions when you can, showing them respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
15. Keep threads / posts on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is that your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
•General Forums - For news and announcements relating to your device.
•Q&A Help & Troubleshooting Forums - For all question / request threads and posts. If there is no Q&A Help & Troubleshooting forum, use the General Forum of the relevant device
