Hello everybody,
I've got a htc one from at&t, previously i had an iphone for years and i have few questions about android:
When i receive a text message the notification appears on my lockscreen and a led light blinks on, but the screen itself stays off. There is any way to get the screen to turn on automatically without touching the phone whenever there is a new notification?

For text messages I use an application called Textra and it has that feature. You can enable it in the application's settings. I am not sure if the stock Messaging application has that.

Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlite you may not be able customise the LED, but there is an option to make the screen light up when receiving a text...I used to use the paid version when I had a Note 2.

Whenever i get a text my screen turns on. How do i make it so it just vibrates or makes a noise. The only way for me to disable the screen is if i turn off all notifications which is not what i want. Is there any solution to this. I am rootex

no? i disabled the lock screen so the back light stays on for the full 30 seconds :[
Bump, cuz I was going to ask the same question.
I was thinking of having tasker do this. But if theres some instructions somewheres I'd rather not have to fiddle w/ tasker. Brains not up for it, yet.
I'd like to know the answer to this as well. My screen lights up whenever I get an email via the stock email app. Kind of annoying since I get cron job report work emails @ all hours of the night.
Oh, & I have searched... "stock email screen light" returns ~1K hits. I sifted through 7 pages of results before deciding to add to this thread.
My wife just got a Droid 4 yesterday (5 Android device family!) and she is saying that the LED is not lighting when I text her. I am not familiar with Motorola phones. Does it have an LED, and does it need to be turned on in settings for notifications?

Of course it`s have LED - left upper corner, it`s not so big, but working just fine for me (SMS messages, e-mail, calendar notifications, etc...)
I never saw any special settings for notifications in general in the system, but you can go to the stock messaging application and see how you can change the style of notification.
Plus you can try Handcent SMS application from Google Play and see how it goes.

Is her screen usually on or off? The LED only lights when the screen is off.

I've searched this forum over and over but can't seem to find anything.
Just wondering if its possible for the screen to wake up when a new notification arrives? I sit my phone up at an angle facing me at work whilst charging and keep missing messages.
Surely there's a way? It's a bit nuts it isn't default.

That appears to only be a "sent" or "send failure" comfirmation. It doesn't display a new received message. I don't see that option.
I am using this app notify me. After installing it, go to accessibility and turn it on and off 2 times. Should work

But my question is, How can I set it up so it would light up the screen when a text message or whatsapp message arrived without having to open the screen to see it, Like how can i make the screen light up for a few secs to show preview JUST like on the iphone?, This is the only nuisance i had with the phone, otherwise AMAZING...

Use a third party messaging app...chompsms is a good one...go sms is another good one. I believe both will give you this option.

If you don't want a 3rd pary app, since I hear those can mess with lockscreens, try trickdroid rom. That has it as a mod(might load into Maximus as a mod too) to do wake4sms and can also wipe out all the senseui on install.

There is an APP called "missed it "in play store you can use to wake up the phone screen for the sms or any other application. for sms it is by default, for other APP like whatsapp or any APP you want to wakeup screen you can add in the widget profile. Do remember when you creat a widget in the setting part to keck the last item.
Be aware if you use it yoi can not drag 4 icons in lock screen to quick access those APP you can only unlock the screen.

* I've noticed today when I get a text message my screen comes on, I'm sure before the screen just stayed black with the notification sound? Have I changed something settings by mistake??
