Hi XDA,
I have a HTC One that was an ex demo phone that I bought off my boss.
The problem I am having is I am unable to set up a screen lock and I think it has something to do with it being a demo model.
It did have a demo app that I have uninstalled that made no difference. I have attempted to factory reset with no success (via settings)
I attempted to factory reset using hardware buttons but the phone just turns on skips passed where the boot menu would normally be.
Does anybody have any idea how I could fix this issue as I would like to put some sort of screen lock on my phone
Regards
Bagman002

Does attempting a factory restore from hboot yield anything?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Going to the bootloader and wiping or going to recovery and wiping will remove any demo content there is, its not hard coded in, it's literally an app.

I'm unable to factory reset using hardware buttons (volume down and power)
When I did a factory reset using the option in settings it still had the demo app

Hi, I just had to wipe a store demo unit for regular use at work and came up against the same issues, however I used the ADB command "adb reboot recovery" and the phone rebooted into HTC recovery and allowed me to wipe it. Once it restarted all demo content was removed and the handset was back to being a regular device.
Hope this helps!
Just bought a demoex at the store for a good price. Had some trouble with demo mode to get it away as factory reset was greyed out but as poster above me said just enter recovery (shut down phone then press volume down + power) and from the recovery you can do a factory reset and the phone will enter "normal mode".
same problem here
Hi everybody,
I have the same problem to remove demo from htc one m8 tried factory reset but demo is still there.
Demo appears as an app in the app drawer and doesn't allow me to uninstall it.
Any solution?
Thanks.

Try the factory reset but yes you may have to flash a stock backup to get the phone normal again

Hey there, I'm in the same boat as 551515. The code is correct (thanks!) however a password/code is needed to factory reset from this menu. Do you know what it might be?
Thanks!
Press and hold the power button until a second display shows options to enable or disable demo mode and reboot.... this is how to get out of it I think on the M8..check my threads for it's full posting
No ....no need to flash, in demo mode a lot of options & uses are restricted like wifi etc but still useable as a mobile phone, as it states, it's in Demo Mode.
Thankfully you can turn it off unlike this Tab, you have to pull the battery!

I am rooted on a Sprint One and had stock HTC. Then downloaded the Viperrom 1.0.4 and had no trouble get it on, did not loose any of my settings or folders. Now when I download and try to run the viper 1.1.0 zip, it does the install and starts up shows my walpaper and icons appropriately, then crashes and constant reboots to the same point. Able to get on to recovery and reinstall the back up i had made with no rpoblems.
What do I need to do? If I wipe, what do i wipe? Have TWRP.
Will I loose all my settings and data?
Please help
Under advanced wipe select the first 4(dalvik,cache,system,data).
Then reflash the Rom.
You will lose settings.
Thanks, will try that in the morning.
Is there anyway we can save settings and restore them after upgrades?

I did the same thing as you. Mine got caught in a bootloop, I couldn't get the damn thing to force restart either. The bottom home & back key just kept flashing no matter how long I held it. I had to wait forever for the battery to die. I think something might be wrong with the restart fail safe HTC built in. So I relocked it, flashed back to stock, go to sprint store of course it reboots perfect every time. The people at the store are morons I hate going there. The guy says to me you just hold it down and the restart menu will come up. I'm like if the phone is frozen that doesn't work. None the less I don't expect them to replace something that is working. So I re-unlocked, cleared everything and installed latest build fresh works great haven't had any issue. I didn't back up either so I had to re set everything up which takes forever. I'm not a fan of restoring backups anyway as it can cause issues. I will be doing a nandroid next time and be more careful with dirty flashing. I always dirty flashed on MeanBean on my LTE without issues and Mike made it very clear when dirty update was not advised. In my opinion they shouldn't release a major update that will bootloop a phone over goo manger. It's still my fault but I didn't think twice about it when I tried to update viper. It still pisses me off that I have to fight with it to get the phone to reboot, the entire point of a fail safe is incase something goes wrong. It's the first time I have ever bootlooped a phone.

Thanks all, I am just where I was. so many opinions and would like to have a concensus.
It won't wipe internal unless you specifically check it in advanced. Never wipe internal, but davlic, cache, data and system are fine and constitutes a full wipe..you should always wipe that way when trying different roms or going to a new base. Or use a superwipe script to make things easier.

same problem
ive had the same problem, i actually had to use the ruu to get back to stock, unlocked it again s-off rooted and no matter what i do everytime i install any custom rom it goes into bootloop. ive tried every rom on here i cant even get viperrom to fully boot up. looking thru all the forums nobody has a clear answer as to why this is happening.
im stuck in boot loop after the viper rom and i just got it yesterday .. i dont know what to do at this point . when it does boot it ask me for the wifi login and fails says poor connection when its right next to me
Boot Loop
I'm also stuck in boot loop. I've done research and tried all kinds of stuff with no luck. This is what I get...
Phone boots
I get the notification bar and a black screen
Can't do anything with that.
After about a minute, it reboots.
Can anyone help with this? I have the 1.31 version. Clearing cache/data/delvik does nothing for me.
Can someone help me get it back to stock, or at least usable?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, Samsung Kies is same with Sony PC Companion, Sony Update Center for software upgrade or software repair

UPDATE2: This only seems to happen if you uninstall the Launcher system app. Mine does not seem to be affected by Xposed or other mods, and works 100% fine now in U Power Saving.
Just decided to try Ultra Power Saving mode after rooting and modding my phone yesterday. I'm not sure what exactly caused it (xposed, root, w.e) but my phone will not boot past the ATT Globe now. Just thought everyone might appreciate a heads up that they may have to factory reset after enabling this setting.
I'll update if my phone decides to boot up (letting it sit now)
UPDATE: It seems that after rooting, U power saving does have the potential to BRICK your phone. DO NOT ENABLE FOR ANY REASON AFTER ROOTING.
My gut says the culprit was uninstalling Launcher.apk (thought it was the google launcher >_>) gonna have to factory reset now.
More info dude
You might have just freaked out a noob here. Root was just achieved yesterday for the Verizon and ATT platform. Please post your hardware software state so we don't get confused here.

Are you sure that your didn't remove or freeze the launcher? If you don't have a third party launcher installed, freezing/removing the launcher.apk will cause the phone to not boot past the logo screen.

I disagree. There are serious disk space concerns with this phone. If I am not going to use an app,and I have root, I am deleting it to recover the space it takes plus any associated files. If that breaks something, then that sucks. You can always reinstall through factory reset.
I'm fairly confident your wrong. Factory reset won't make uninstalled system apps reappear. That's why they don't let you delete them normally.
Just Odin back to stock after Odin flashes reboot into recovery and wipe all data reboot and all should be well

Hey guys. Sorry if its been posted before but I did search with no solution found. So I did have a HTC One that I S-Off'd, rooted and everything else and I have had a few other modded HTC devices, but the issue isn't with mine.
My sister also has a HTC One which randomly stopped working the other day. Its stuck in a bootloop where it reaches the One boot animation then restarts. Its not unlocked, its still S-On and not rooted.
The only thing I can access is Hboot and therefore the only thing I can really use is fastboot commands. When choosing recovery the screen just goes black and it restarts.
Under any normal circumstance I'd unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and reflash the stock ROM or something but she NEEDS the files on her phone. She's OK with losing apps and app data and settings etc but the user data can't be wiped.
Again sorry if the solution is out there already but I've been up since 6am, been at work all day, had to drop people off and I've been trying to get this phone working. Its now 1am and she needs this phone ASAP. Cheers in advance, Huzi.

theirs no real magic here... you can try fastboot erase cache and fastboot reboot-bootloader
from bootloader you can go to stock recovery when you see the android on his back hold volume up and tap the power button
you should see the recovery menu try erase cache their also.
everything past that gets more and more destructive stock recovery / factory reset / try to bootup phone ..followed by unlocking the bootloader and installing TWRP and doing a format data. Then pushing a rom onto the phone

Your situation is why HTC sold the phone with a 25gig dropbox included, If people choose not to use it as a backup then they find out the hard way why it was their. All the new HTC's come with Free Google drive Accounts for the same reason

Try downloading software updates using samsung kids on your PC, or visit a customer service center." also I disabled my soft touch keys (back and app switch) and now it won't let me turn them back on which is a huge problem...
The question I have is how can i completely reset my tablet to factory files and settings? CAN YOU PLEASE PROVIDE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS. I know about hard reset and wipe cache during start up but I feel like theres more. Please help me out on this guys. thanks in advance
From the backup & restore section of the settings you can do a factory reset, this will put back to stock, then you can install the update even with Knox tripped it will then allow you to do an OTA.

I don't believe you can update your software if you have a custom recovery and root.

From the backup & restore section of the settings you can do a factory reset, this will put back to stock, then you can install the update even with Knox tripped it will then allow you to do an OTA.

I don't want to do just a factory reset because I'm afraid of my soft touch buttons never coming back on because i can't change the system files because i wont have root anymore and than me being screwed. Also i don't believe a factory reset puts files back into the directory.

You will need to download your stock software or the latest Lollipop and install using Odin.
And you will obviously lose root and soft buttons with a factory reset.
If you modified the Generic.kl file there should be a Generic.kl.bak, just replace Generic.kl with Generic.kl.bak and rename that file and set it's permissions to 0644.

I ended up just downloading a 4.4.2 stock official rom and opened Odin, went and did the normal procedure on to load a ROM. The tablet passed and everything was working smoothly. The good thing was that it didn't erase all my data and apps. it just took off the root and made it like a stock device. then I just updated it with all the normal updates over the air until it was up to the newest one (5.0.2.) and BAM. We in business ?
