Hi guys, first post and kindle / android virgin so bear with me.
Received a kindle fire HD 7 a few days ago and proceeded to root it. installed google play 4.1.10 and got this working with little to no problems. I want to restore to the factory stock image and unroot prior to returning this and I havent been able to find out how to do this (I have searched and searched). Can anyone point me in the direction of a tut to do this? Assuming I need a factory cable? all help appreciated.

If you dont have the second bootloader installed its easy to unroot. Go into your file explorer and goto system apps and delete vending.apk, googleserveciesframework.apk, googleloginservices.apk, superuser.apk, and any other google app you installed to system. Then you goto system/xbin and delete su and busybox. Then restart then factory reset should be back to stock unrooted.

[Q] Unable to Launch Music & Videos

I recently rooted my new Kindle Fire HD 8.9 purchased a few weeks ago using Bin4ry Tool. The root worked fine. I was able to load up Google Play and install apps.
I am now having a problem where I cannot access "Music" or "Videos" from the main Kindle Dashboard. It simply states "Unable to launch video." or "Unable to launch music.". Is this a known issue or are there any additional steps I need to take to restore this functionality? During the root I had to wipe the device and I have purchased music and movies that I would like to restore from the cloud if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matthew

[Q] Lock Screen ADS showing up again

Alright so out of nowhere today my Kindle fire 7 10.4.6 started displaying lock screen ads again. It's rooted and I've renamed the dtcp_apk.apk to dtcp_apk.bat. And it hasn't been showing ads since I rooted. But today it started again out of no where. Here's the complete background and what I've already tried.
Kindle has remained charged the entire day and has not died since purchase, I've confirmed I still have root access through Root Checker, I've renamed the dtcp file back to it's original .apk and restarted and then changed back to .bat and still ads show up. Confirmed that OTA updates are disabled, I'm at a loss here, anybody else having this problem or found a way of fixing it? Short of wiping the root and starting over from scratch.
And thank you in advance for any help or feedback!

Just received a KF2 (10.4.6) this week as a gift. Spent several days trying to remove the lock screen ads. Finally got it working. Hopefully this is not a repost - could not find it in the search.
Need to root device first. In addition to renaming the /system/app/dtcp_apk.apk file as referenced elsewhere on this forum, it looks like Amazon has put the same app in a different location. I also renamed /data/app/com.amazon.kindle.kso-1.apk, rebooted the device, and now no more lock screen ads.

[Q] reset to factory settings a rooted KFHD 7" and install Cyanogenmod on it

Hello everyone,
My name is Marika and I'm quite desperate! in fact, I decided to register on this forum because I can't figure out how to "save" my Kindle Fire HD 7".
I must say I am a total novice and working on a Mac, but I have access to a PC with Windows and Linux, too.
My problem is the following: I rooted my KFHD to install Google Play store and I installed Go Launcher EX and HD because I hated the carousel and wanted a nice tablet without necessarily showing everyone what was going on on my device.
I don't know if something went wrong but everything worked just fine until I noticed that even if I tried it, I couldn't update my KFHD from Amazon. I tried to ask the troubleshooting service and they told me I had to send back the device and they would send me a new one; so I tried to wipe it clean and unroot it otherwise they would charge me for the second device. The unroot part was fairly easy, and I tried to restore it to the factory settings by the default button inside the device, everything was cancelled but I couldn't update it, still, plus I noticed that the Go Launchers were still there. I re rooted it in order to try to remove the files manually but I couldn't figure out what to do, the only thing I know is that I have no "uninstall" button on these apps so I can't get rid of them, can someone help me? I would like to install Cyanogenmode now instead of those...
Thank you in advance for your time and sorry if this problem was already posted somewhere else, but I couldn't find anything similar to my case!
I'm confused, why area you trying to remove this stuff if you want to install CyanogenMod, when you install cyanogen mod it wipes everything including the os and excluding the sdcard, so there's no point in removing launchers. It sounds like you thought cm was a launcher, am I right or not understanding this right?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
actually no, I didn't think that Cyanogenmode was a launcher; I just thought that the Go Launchers would stay loaded on it anyways and that I needed to get rid of them to install the OS.
I would also like to figure out what could have happened to the KFHD to behave in a such way, because maybe there's really something that doesn't work and it's better if I get a working one while the warranty is still active, that's why I needed/wanted to do what I explained.
Thank you for your reply!
Well when flashing cm it you will basically factory reset, and the launchers that are stored in/system/apps will be wiped too, because everything in /system is deleted when you flash it. As for the updates you could always just restore a older version of amazon os and it would probably fix it, but why do you want to update the os? Most people disable updates so they don't have to keep rerooting it.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
yeah probably it's easier and better to install cm right away without any other troubles!

[Q] How to root kindle fire HD 7" version 7.4.8?

I've been browsing Kindle fire HD root videos and forums all day. There seem to be almost none for the 7.4.8 version. I cannot find any videos or tutorials for my kindle version. Do I need to downgrade? If so, how? Where do I begin? I'm a newbie.
Root it just like you would the other versions. Binary's root or kffa root, if nothing else works just downgrade it, those are prerooted.

Asides this, will I also be able to successfully root through the tutorials on youtube which are meant for version 7.4.6?
They should work, as far as I know nothing has ever changed in the rooting process for this device.

Thank you
I also lost root with the update to 7.4.8 a few days ago.
I originally rooted my kindle with bin4ary's root, but that program was able to re-root it.
Thank you for suggesting KFFirstAide because that program was able to restore root for me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I rooted a 7.4.8 this week, it was no different to do than before it was upgraded, I think the user had upgraded the firmware to 7.4.8 and caused a boot loop problem, so it had to be put back to stock and then re-rooted, just take your time and follow all the instructions to the letter, I used "Root Many Android" as the software, also ensure the ADB drivers are correctly installed >and working< and you set the windows Enviromental Variables path correctly, ensure the kindle is charged up before you start. Good luck
Downgrade 7.4.8

I have been trying to root my Kindle all morning, searching through videos here and downloading links. All I have ended up doing is getting a bunch of malware on my computer which I can't remove! And now when I go to uninstall programs it only shows I have 3 programs installed. I'm so frustrated and I just want my computer back to normal. Please, can anyone help me?

Eh... Not exactly the best place to ask for help fixing your pc. That can be more difficult to explain how to fix over the net, If you want someone to repair your pc for free then pm me or hit me up on skype, i can fix pc's remotely assuming it still gives you network access and lets you install programs, and also assuming the virus isnt the kind that prevents me from fixing it short of pulling the hard drive and scanning it remotely. However i will say this, if your programs list only has 3 programs on teh add remove page, its possible some registry keys were deleted.
If however you are looking for the kindle fire 7 hd 2012 root utility, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
if its the 2013 model, don't use that there's another tool for it.

[Q] Kindle Fire HD lags after root

I have rooted my kindle in 2 different ways. Both methods end up making the kindle fire barely usable.
Here is the first method I used: Youtube Video: "How to root kindle fire HD and turn it into a pure android tablet" (Can't post links)
My second method I used is a program called vroot.
How do I stop the lag without taking away the root?
I have factory reset the device 3 times now.
I don't want to do it again.
Thanks
I used Root Many Android. Everything works, no lag.
Ok, I fixed it

Do you mean how I fixed it. Well, I was tired of waiting for a answer so I just did a factory reset.
I was using Vroot. Kinguser was still there and I still had root access.
But now I have another problem.
I tried to install recovery mode on my kindle fire but it started going into an endless loop when I tried to access it.
When trying to access twrp?
