tl;dr - reinstalled google voice account, now cant choose between #'s when calling out
Hello everyone. First post here after many moons lurking. Thanks for the great board. I've always found solutions to my issues without the need for a new thread, but today I'm stumped after searching forever for a solution. So I thought I''d ask you fine folks for some assistance.
When checking a voicemail this morn in google voice I kept getting a 'your password is incorrect' error. Googl voice was running really slow so I decided to delte the account and set it up fresh again hoping it would clear any bugs out....
Well...all seems to working again accept a feature I use every day, the option that pops up when calling that lets you choose between using you google voice # or your sprint #. Seems that everything now is going through my sprint # and that's no good for my business calls. Has anyone encountered this? Any help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Well despite the overwhelming help(yawn) from you folks I found the solution and will contribute to the board by sharing.
Found solution at a goog board that I cannot post a link to here...
If that link wont post, what happens is that during the setup of GV on the phone, if you don't skip the initial step it will disable the 'Making Calls' section of GV effectively sending everything through your carrier #.
So the fix is delete your GV account within the phone, then detach the phone # from your GV account settings within the normal browser not the app, then re-setup your phone with GV.
For real now, it hasn't even been 2 hours since your first post. Not everyone that sees your thread will know the answer. Gotta be patient, glad you figured it out yourself though.

What are the cons of Google Voice?
I was hesitant during the sign-up process to enter my phone numbers, just because I was skeptical. Is there any concern?
Also, when you are on your cell, do you always get a prompt when placing a call to use your phone or Google Voice? Any way to prevent that, if so.
Using GV still uses your minutes... so I'm not sure I understand the benefit if I don't have any other phone numbers I would have sent to my cell.
I tried searching, but I think my questions are so simple there were no other posts *that I found* like mine.
Thanks guys.
Privacy Policy. read it.
you can set up gv to work over data. theres a thread here
I did read the PP, that is what made me pause and not set up the account over a month ago. I am now re-visiting the idea and thought I would solicit advice.
I did not realize it could be done over data. I will try and find that thread. Do you get a prompt each time you place a call what method you want to use? Can you set a default like other options in the phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548405
theres the thread.
i don't use GV, but i use the official app. There is an option to when you want it to allow in the official app. I only use google voice for sms though. someone will stop by and chime in
I use the official app to save voicemails and to forward my google voice numberto my phone. I also have the sms and email sent with the transcript.
Just downloaded Google Voice today and wanted to know if anyone can send me an invite. I would greatly appreciate it. My email is gsmith11234 at gmail of course lol. Thank you if you do decide to send me the invite. Im in the army and dont have too much time to listen to voicemails all the time so this would be a great asset to me.
I figured I would bump this instead of creating a new thread for my question. I've done some quick Google searches and looked through a couple of posts here, but I haven't really found a solid answer, so I am asking you guys for your knowledge.
Does the Google Voice app actually use minutes? Or is it just data? Or is it both?
I have heard that it just uses data, but other posts I have read that it uses both minutes and data. I usually tend to trust the folks here at XDA over all others.
Any help is always appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Google Voice is now free in the US

Thanks for keeping the forums clean and posting your question in this thread! To answer your question: Google Voice for Android provides synchronized access to your voice/sms mailbox via a data connection and makes it such that you can make phone calls that appear as originating from your Google Voice phone number from your handset. They are just like regular calls and use your minutes.
I have been using Voice for about a year now and am loving it! Both the service and the Android app have come a long way since then and I encourage you to check it out.
seriously i have no clue what to do. I got google voice on my phone it sends me to some help page that says in the upper right hand corner there should be a settings link or button but there isnt. I must seriously be missing something.
if someone can give me directions on how to setup my phone to forward calls to my google voice voicemail so there are no additional charges lol that would help.. and the simpler the better.

Then you have to go to the google voice website and enable on your account.
http://www.google.com/googlevoice/l...dium=ha&utm_term=google voice&utm_campaign=en
After you login got to setting and activate voicemail.
ok i thanks and is it free sorry i just seen some stuff on google about call forwarding and getting charged with sprint is that out dated info
I've been using it for a long time and don't recall ever being billed.
Go to the settings section on the Google Voice webpage. When you add a phone it will have a Activate Google Voicemail On This Phone link. It will give you a code to punch in and it will work.
Also, on a personally verified note, you have to punch that code in every time you change ROMs or reload your ROM. I kept forgetting to do it and Sprint and Google could often not agree on who handled my voicemail. LOL
Anyone have a recommendation for sending sms messages over wifi?
TIA.
google voice seems to work well for me
That is what I use also. Google Voice. Kind of fun texting my daughters with this big thing..
+1 gv.. it's all i use on my tab, and my phone.. and my wifes phone..
+1 google voice.

well crap, i think i replied in the wrong thread.. doohhh.. hahaha
anywho, go to your contacts, click on their pic you should see a slew of icons, one of which should be a google voice bubble (a bubble with a phone in it) click on it, and then pick which number you'd like to send a text to .. It may ask you which program you'd like to use, but i can't remember..
I can't speak for everyone else, but I had an update for GV in the market and after the update I went thru login process and SMS worked

Bummer. I don't see that icon on any of my contacts. Poop.
I'll try installing it again tonight. I'm going to flash Vegan B3... I think. Running TnT 2.2 now. Maybe it's an issue with that ROM.
Re-install for success
I was having no success with GV and then I went on the app market and install it from there and now I can send SMS messages from my Google Voice account. Running TnT-Lite 2.2.1
I posted this problem as well on the voice thread on general theme.
I installed .3 google voice. I got to the final set up screen where it wants to verify my phone number. When I hit next, it says "We have a problem, your phone number could not be verified. please try again"
When it asked for my user name and password, I put in the email address and pass word that is linked to google account that I set up google voice with (it is not a gmail account, but a yahoo email address) I can access it fine from google.com/voice by putting in those same credentials, but when i go through setup on the tablet and it comes to the part about verifying the phone number, I get the we have a problem screen
What can I do different?
Thanks

Just update Google voice from the market. The new one just works now without having to replace the old with 0.3 and all that.

I originally tried the one from market and it FC each time I tried to run it. I removed it with the remove applications removal tool in settings and installed this otherone. It loads, opens and allows me to put in my email address and password associated with my only google voice account, but it stops on the phone number verification process.
Thanks for your help
EDIT: Just tried again to install from market. This time when it gets to verify phone number, instead of the error popping up, it gives me a FC... the same as when I tried it before.
Try signing up for google voice on a pc or via the web first. Use any phone number that you have access to immediately to verify the number then simply install google voice from the market. It should just work. Skip the part about cell phone voicemail if asked.
Still no luck on my end. I un-installed the update (in settings), then wiped and un-installed via Titanium Backup, then rebooted. After boot I downloaded and installed from the market. Went through the setup process. Rebooted again. Still no option to SMS when I click on a contact picture. Ideas?

I've been using textPlus. Works pretty good!
Can you get to the google voice inbox? If so, press menu and select compose. start typing the name and then pick the persons name and cell and send txt that way. If you can't get the inbox then you have some other problem.
Do you have the google voice configured with a mobile number? Maybe that is it.

I'm in the inbox. In menu, all I see is Refresh, Labels, Balance, Search, Settings, and Help.
Also, it is build number: 0.4.2.13, if that matters.
And additionally, I just flashed Vegan b3, if that matters.
Hello it seems Google Voice is not compatible with the Bionic. Is there a manual work around? I remember reading a while back a way to do this with the thunderbolt. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It says: unfortunately your carrier is not supported for automatic voicemail configuration. To use google voice as your voicemail provider, please visit the google voice help center more more information.
I got that error message too, but the voice mail does in fact work ok.
The problem I am having is that my google voice number is not showing as the calling number, even though it is set to be. I have tried changing the settings to ask each time, and it does not ask. It is still not working after rebooting too.

Just go to the google voice site on a computer and enter your phone number manually in the google voice settings on the website. It is a very self explanatory process once there. After that, go into your wireless network settings on your bionic and change the Voicemail settings from "my carrier" to "google voice." Not sure where this is on motoblur, but just look around and you should find it. If you get an error message or it freezes, do a reboot, go into the settings again and verify google voice is selected in the Voicemail settings. You should be okay after this.

Thanks for your help gotta it!
So caller id still shows my actual phone number and not my google voice number even when it is configured to do so. Any one else have this problem?
That error came at the point (for me) where it should automatically insert *71###-###-#### (*71 + your google number) in to the dialer to forward missed calls. So I did it manually and GVoice has worked fine for me. I did get one FC, but not sure if it was because of debloat or actual GVoice app. Other than that I have made calls, recieved Vmails and texts through GVoice just fine.

uninstall the app and try rerunning the setup, making sure you select use google voice for calls or ask when I make a call.
