You could try disabling the "Car" process from app management or Titanium backup.

search the market for "procsimity sensor" that does it automatically. there are a few bugs that need to be worked out with it becuase it uses the light sensor it doesnt work real well in the dark but from what I have seem other than that its a pretty good app.

I uninstalled it because I hate auto backlight. It stays dim even when browsing.

i personally dont use it but thought he might want it
The lock replacement app, LockBot Pro, as a setting to lock the screen during a call. Not sure about the free version but it's worth a dollar or two.

The screen does automatically lock. The timeout is adjustable, but I don't think there's anything in the Settings menu for it.
I use a program called Quick Settings that puts a shortcut on my home screen to a list of modes - each mode can include custom screen timeout values, ringer volumes, etc. One of them is in-call screen timeout.
OK now, I have tried them all now:
Quick Settings
Call Light
Call Daddy
Lockbot
Proximity Sensor
Screebl
Power Manager
and I still can't figure out how to time out the screen duing a call. It's driving me nuts because I hang up on people all the time. Why can't I get any of the above to work on fresh 1.1 + Gumbo kernel?
For all the people out there on a Sprint Hero, what app are you using and what are your settings in Settings> Sound & display> Disable auto backlight and your screen timeout settings.
TIA.
I'm in the same boot and wish I could find an answer. Sprint really screwed up not putting a proximity sensor on the phone.
I have tried "Proximity Sensor" app but it's buggy and I don't like using auto brightness. Just tried "Quick Settings" but can not find any adjustment for time out during call? only the general screen time out.
Does anyone know where this setting is? Could it be only for 1.6 and up?

In Power Manager, it's under "Stay Awake" and it's called "During Call."

jonnythan,
I tried that and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I have diabled auto backlight and my screen timeout is set to 30 sec. What are your settings? Also with Power Manager how long does it take to time out?

I have different settings for different situations. I have it set to 10 seconds while on battery and 1 minute while on AC power. Works fine for me.

Ever since I switched to a custom kernel, lock during a call has been temperamental. I'm using Gumbo's rom/kernel. For some reason it started working again today. Last night I did switch back to the stock mem kill settings, but I doubt this had anything to with fixing it. Sorry this post is of no help, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Check out the Screen Suite app...
The Screen Suite app is a collection of screen utilities. Features a lock screen that can be configured to lock during a call and has a panel to lock your screen on demand.
proximity sensor works pretty well for me and i dont have auto back light enabled...
im running damage 2.0.7.2
screen suite doesn't disable the notification bar, my ear pulls it down sometimes. i have things in there that launch.
This thread has the "end all" solution which you can just flash to your phone. It removes the "End Call" button from the screen when you're on a call so that you can't do any facial hang ups.

My auto rotation is not working correctly. It will turn to landscape mode, but will not change back unless I unchecked the auto rotation button. I have adjusted the Horizontal calibration and the Gyroscope calibration without any success. I first noticed it on Check rom after a couple of days. Last night I switched to Rocket V23 and I still have the problem. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have gotten use to turning my phone to landscape with the display adapting and then turning it back. Now it seems to be a hassle to turn on/off the auto rotate button to adjust screen.
Thanks
Travis
I have an issue where even if disable screen rotate, all apps still rotate. Anyone know what's going on and how I can fix this?
No problem here. Tried with Facebook, YouTube and Tapatalk and all are locked or rotate depending on what the settings are
Make sure your device isn't charging, that will enable rotation.

Hi Guys,
I love xperia products specially this xperia z3c.. however, there is one pet peeve that is really starting to irritate me.. everytime I try to disable auto rotate, the screen still rotate.. wtf?? I went to accessibility and check marked the auto rotate.. then I went to display and un-checked auto rotate.. then I went to the notification area and selected portrait.. on all the cases, my screen still rotates from portrait to landscape.. previously, with xperia zr, all I have to do is select portrait INSTEAD of auto rotate in the notification area.. but now, in z3c no matter what I select in the notification area be it portrait or auto rotate, IT AUTO ROTATES... is there a setting I am missing that needs to be checked/unchecked so that this phone stays on portrait?
Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks..

settings> Display> screen rotation> make sure Auto-rotate screen is off.
thanks.. this helped.. i thought I did that one time.. now it works.. however, the notification widget where I can click faster the portrait and auto-rotation does not work now.. but this is no problem.. this is better.. thank you..

tested on my end and the notification widget works fine in both portrait and auto-rotation. try restarting your phone that should solve this issue.
I am intermittently having the same Issue as the OP, except on a Z3 (non C).
Sometime the phone is just not respecting the Auto Rotate Settings, I have smart rotate off (never used it) but at time toggling Auto Rotate from the top bar or in the settings menus does nothing.
I feel it has something to do with docking though, just a hunch.

If you're using a magnetic charger or dock, that might be the problem. Unplug it and then put in Portrait and try again
Sent from my D5833 using XDA Free mobile app
I've got more or less the same problem.
When I connect the magnetic charger the screen will always rotate to landscape and upside down, no matter what I selected for screen rotation.
When I unplug the magnetic charger it will almost never react to the setting of auto-rotation, in 95% of the cases it will always stay in portrait.
By plugging and unplugging the magnetic connector and altering the auto-rotation setting the device (when unplugged) would respond to the setting of the auto-rotation by rotating to portrait or landscape but never upside-down.
Locking and locking the device turned it back to when unplugged always stay in portrait mode and when plugged always rotate.
This problem is only for the home screen, applications react properly to the setting but the homescreen does not.
I could not find all settings.
I can find
Display - When device is rotated
Accessibility - auto-rotate screen
I cannot find anything in notification (for me notification and sound are under the same menu 'Sound & Notification'
When I change the setting in display I can see the setting in accessibility is linked to this one, changing one also changes the other one.
What is normal behaviour and what can I do so my phone behaves and reacts in the normal way
Hi,
has someone else problems with the screen rotation?
Actually I like to use macdroid to control when screen rotation is enabled. It will activate based on where I am and what app I use.
So the rotation is usually portrait fixed but when I use youtube ie. the screen will rotate so I can use landscape there too.
The problem is that either by using macdroid or even when I enable/disable rotation too often it won't rotate anymore.
I have to restart the device to have it working again.
Can you confirm this? Or is this just my device?

Nothing wrong here. Turned on the auto rotate, went to youtube, played a video in portrait mode. Then rotated the device and the video went into landscape.

Try turning rotation on and off several times and then see if rotation still works after you turned it on.

Well, this sounds like app specific problem. Don't use macdroid for such tasks and u're ready to go.

As said it even happens when I press the tiles button too often. So its not a problem of the app.
But maybe the device is broken. I'll try to reset it and see if the problem exists if a few more people can confirm its not a problem for them I guess.
No issues whatsoever with screen rotation here. Sorry.

Yes i had the same issue! Each time the problem appear i have to reboot my phone !
I install phone tester on play store, and it seems that accelerometer stop working (it wait for data)
Moreover, i had the problem in Safe Mode (power on Button -> long press on Shut Down -> 'Do you want to restart in Safe mode' -> Yes)
I think if your screen didn't rotate in safe mode, the problem is not a third app.....
For my phone i will bring it to warranty tomorrow

This is another issue which looks to me like a software bug in the system itself.

You can try something else: on google map, is the compass working?
On my previous nokia 7 plus, both compass and screen rotation didn't work properly.
I just change it this morning on the shop i bought it, and the compass is working on the Nokia 7 Plus i had now
Hardly I have to calibrate often. I guess my device is broken so I will return it too.
The new one i obtain this morning already have the last version of android (8.1 instead of 8.0 for the first one), i think the second one was not from the same manufacturing batch.
I hope you will obtain a new phone or a quick reparation!
I got my replacement phone and after some testing I can say that the initial device was faulty. The new one does not show the problems mentioned.
