Hey, i was taking some under water photos during my weekend trip. All my ports were closed before i put my mobile in the water. Suddenly my camera app stopped working & booted in to safe mode. I was sure it was less than 30mins & as soon as i came out of the water i noticed all my ports changed in to red color. After a few hours the phone stopped working & i tried to draining the water with rice method. It's been 48years still my phone is not turning on.
When i connect it to a pc/charger, it does turn on for few secs with the red led & turns off with 3vibrations.
Nothing works, except that. I guess it is hard bricked. Is there any solution to fix my phone or back my data?
Regards
Let the phone dry just in case there is still water in it, try it after the next day and see what happens.

Update: Got my mobile back from the service center. They told me there was a drop of water behind the power button, that caused the reboot & advised not to take under water photos. Also i had to pay for the service since it doesn't come under warranty.

XZ Waterproofing
Hello bro's, Just do take note that the rubbers on the flaps degrades as used. If one uses the power flap and the earphone flap often, then the waterproofing will be less and less reliable.
Though i have used this quite a number of times under water before 1 meter, i used it while it's still a few months old, but i dare not use it after long use.
Power button, if you want it prolonged, use a software such as SCREEN OFF AND LOCK on play store. It will pro-long the button's maximum time before failure. (MTBF)

Glad I read this thread. I had a feeling that using buttons as a shutter wasn't a good idea whilst underwater. I think Sony need to reiterate this is water RESISTANT, not water proof.

That's a very good point to make, will add that to the OP of my resource thread. Might be worth trying to modify the ports with some tape to give a tighter seal, especially if you're one of these People who insist on doing what's recommended not to or push the boundaries of a devices required limits.
The most amount of water my Z has seen so far is a few splashes of rain and wouldn't dream of sticking it in a glass of water to show off or actually take it into a swimming pool or the sea just because the IP rating says I should in theory be able to.
It's hard to have sympathy for some People.
I think the only way is to bring it down to sony service centre

i searched up google and it tells me that red dot is indicator of water damage to phone..... after drying up i can boot phone... it is turning on... i havent tested other functions cuz i found some more water so i left it to dry..........
i will take it to samsung tomorrow and hope for best...
Please take a picture of the red dot. I wanna see it.
And maybe we can put a waterproof sticker over the red sticker so that when the phone actually does fall in water it won't turn red. Then remove the waterproof sticker and give it to the service center.

Oh you are that Delhi guy. Remember me
And for your phone.
Did you tried downloading mode. If working flash the stock rom. Then took it to Samsung guys.
But I think you should let it dry first fully and try your luck.
Better try with a dryer after removing the battery.
Yeah better let it dry first. I think putting the phone in a bowl of rice helps as well.

Warranty is void anyway because of the awesome red dot stickers, so you could have told him since you'll be paying for the repair. But if telling CM7 is just an app worked then that is going to help a lot of Mini users claim their warranty. Thanks for sharing, man.

You referring to the current situation (Water damage, but Phone's working) or a fully bricked state.
And, they think Kies software would detect the Phone with a fully bricked state?
And if the phone is working, how much time would it take to look on "About Phone" section. From there, the Service Centre guys could easily detect whether Custom ROM is installed or not.

There is no waranty that covers water damage to the phone. Only phone insurance wich i doubt you have. If they inspect your phone, they will void your waranty because no matter how much you dried it, water leaves marks. Anyway, if the screen is ok and the phone boots up, you wont have to pay that much for the reparation.

You may be right that they can check in "About Phone".
But I have witnessed cases that the service center guys acts like totally idiot and can be easily fooled.
I think most of them don't have knowledge and they just do a GOOGLE SEARCH.
Once I told them to repair my headphones just after 7 days of purchase they asked me to give my phone, I asked Why?
They (she)replied: we have to check phone. She typed some number on the dial *#*#1234...something and some other number to get details.
I even asked them to upgrade it to gingerbread from froyo and i gave my phone.
Then next day I came to get my phone with repaired headphones
and those foolish! Mad ass people reflashed muy phone with what: froyo over froyo and i lost everything.
I asked (in anger) why did you reflashed with old one. In that they said gingerbread is not yet available.
As far as for flashing they surely used kies.

Hello.
My phone was in my pocket when I entered a beach. I realized it, I ran out of the beach, I took it out, but it had absorbed some water.
Stupidly, I tried to turn it on. It started with an unending vibration. For 3 tried, the same vibration occurred.
Then, it stopped.
I separated both the battery and the circuit board.
I tried turning it on once in a while. It didn't work.
So, I'm probably going to have to give the mobile to the Service Center.
But, will they find out if the mobile has it's bootloader locked/unlocked when the mobile is so screwed?
And, if so, how can I relock it?
Thank You.

I have no idea dude
but if your phone can turning on u can relock it with s1 tool..
u can check if the flash-modes working (turn off phone and press back button while plug in to PC )
hope can help your prob
Actually, if your phone couldn't be turned on, you don't need to worry about this because they can't check your phone if the phone's bootloader is unlocked.
And i'm sure that the phone will not turn on again
but there sure can find that it was damaged due to water and you are out of warranty then. they don't cover physical damages due to user's mistake.

Xperia tipo:thumbup:
Price Slightly more than X8 but awesome!
:flipoff2: DEVILS NEVER CRY:flipoff2:
Tipo is actually good. Surprisingly it can run ICS smooth with only a 800 MHz processor.
It is a good alternative to X8 with almost the same price. And, it will depend on the support on xda !
Anyway, will decide.
Thanks a lot !

Yeah, I did try to turn it on too quick. The vibrating sound may be the reason for a short circuit.

Hello, I have some big problem with my Xperia Z since yesterday:
The power button stopped working. It doesn't do anything. I can't lock the screen or unlock it. I did not drop the device or something, it just happened.
Sometimes when I press volume up, it acts like the power button and asks if I want to shutdown etc. Also I had the problem that my screen was upside down yesterday. I could not get it good and even changing the launcher did not help. Really strange, as if my sensor was completely going nuts.
Anyway, I am backing up right now, and I will try a factory reset. But this is just strange. I am running 4.2.2.
Anyone an idea what is going on?

I've recently had the same problem.
Also took in the shower, but because the backglass was lifted slightly from the case because of the overheating problem, water came inside and messed everything up.
Phone is now being repaired. And they said it is water damage.

Just explain to them that, the flaps were closed but still water got in to the phone.
I got the same button failure when water went in during shower. Got a replacement from Sony.
I have sent it for repair. Not to the default repair center in the Netherlands but to another company which is specialized in repairs too. Cleaning the device costs 20 Euro. There is a chance other components will be broken too after opening/cleaning, but they will try their best.
I have chosen this option instead of returning to the shop/Sony. That because the devices in the Netherlands are sent to a company called Dynafix. Although they have 'fix' in their name their reputation is that they do not fix phones. They sent you big bills for unfixed phones. Mine has waterdamage and colored stickers anyway, so I already knew for 99% chance that I will have the phone returned unrepaired and have to pay a lot of money just for them to see the colored stickers. Or the chance that they will repair it but that it can cost more than 300 euro (they say they swap a lot of components and charge you a lot)...
I will update when I have my Xperia Z back.

Update:
They have 'repaired' my Xperia Z. They swapped the mainboard. It did cost €235...
But I haven't been able to use my device anymore. When they gave my device back I noticed the following things:
- proximity sensor is not working
- notification led is not working anymore
- light sensor is not working anymore
(all those functions worked before I brought the device to them)
I went back to the store and told them about these problems. They said: for 35 euros we might be to fix this.
They tried but where not able to fix. I have not paid these 35 euros.
When I came home I accepted my loss of these sensors and I started installing my device and apps.
But there are even more problems!
- At a random time my device switches off, even if battery is full;
- Sometimes I can boot;
- Sometimes it even doesn't boot... Only wipe with Flashtool or through recovery can get the device booting again.
So I have paid an extra €235 and I can still throw it in the bin....
I think I am going to contact Sony...

I got some kind or real strange behavior just a secound ago.
My Powerbutton seemed not to work even after pressing it a few times, i than called myself and it worked (first though the battery would be empty).
Afterwards it worked again, no problems whatsoever.
What could that be? It wasnt dropped or washed or whatever, indicators are white

Keep it below a bulb(not CFL or LED)
Keep it for an hour, just don't keep it too close.

batterie is work perfect new !!!
Just wait a while and do what androidtweaker1 said:good:.Keep the flaps open(and remove the sim card/sim tray and the sdcard),it will help with the evaporation. For all u know,it might be a simple short! Don't try to turn it on all the time,if there is water left inside, pushing electricity through soaked chips and circuits will fry them not to mention the battery.
Then if the phone still doesn't work, then its to the sony store for a repair.

So a little update. I don't know how will it be, because when I'm trying to charge it, it becomes very hot. And it doesn't vibrate anymore when I'm trying to turn it on... Only red light when I'm charging it. I took it for repair, and repairman said that screen of this phone was already changed by previous owner probably. Because it's not fully attached. ( I only realised that after trying it's "waterproofness" ) So... I don't know... I'm very upset with this accident because I payed 252.7$ for this phone... I just have a little hope that mayybeee... one day it will come back to life..

Of course any suggestions are still very appreciated...

After some usage the back glass panel becomes lose and lets in water. Thats how she got wet. Boy, that sounded dirty...
The same here - after year and a half of usage my phone died in water for few minutes althought all the taps were closed
Yay! Sony has repaired it.
A few weeks ago, my retailer sent back my device. Their report said that the front adhesive was loose hence there was water damage.
Thankfully, it was covered under NZ warranty and they completely replaced my z3. Yay! The rest is history.
Thank you to everyone who helped. I appreciate it.
Old post.
TL;DR: Phone won't boot or respond. When the phone is plugged in, the device's notification light flashes red. Tried all the button combinations, no response.
This happened yesterday. Searched the device forums and couldn't find any solutions so posted here.
When the phone is plugged into a power source, it the notification LED flashes just over once a second.
Tried using different USB cables, chargers, computers - no difference.
Tried all the button combinations, nothing happened. I did press the yellow "off" button by the Sim card slot and then it vibrated 3 times. Nothing happened afterwards and I couldn't repeat this.
One weird thing I did notice is when the USB cable is half plugged into the charger/laptop the phone, the led stays on longer. Maybe 5, 10 seconds. The time the LED is off is still the same. So maybe it's somesort of lose connection?
It doesn't charge via USB. I haven't tried the magnetic dock connection since I don't have one. Anyone know if it would be worth to DIY one to make sure?
Yes, the phone has been fully submerged in water, but I only did that when I got it last month. It hasn't been intentionally submerged since then. The only software related issue I had was that occasionally the phone's screen wouldn't turn on for a long time. I assumed this was software related and it was fixed when I uninstalled Microsoft's Next Launcher.
I've had this phone for over a month and it. Just returned from the city which I bought the phone and I don't want to return it for warranty unless I absolutely have to. The bootloader is locked and the device has not been rooted.
NZ has a great "warranty" law (Consumers Guarantees Act) which pretty much means if the device doesn't last as long as it's meant to or doesn't work as advertised, you have the right to a refund, replacement or repair at not cost to the user - so at least I have the law on my side.
Any response will be greatly appreciated - that "thanks" button will most definitely be clicked.

That - that would make me return the phone right away. If it's hardware related I wouldn't take any chances. Maybe you can even get them to give you a cover/case for the trouble

Yeah, but then it takes like a month for it to get mailed to the "official repairs", looked at etc. like most warranty claims. I'd rather get it fixed now rather than wait.
But as a plan B, I think we have it pretty good here!
Buy one of those super cheap magnetic chargers and see if it charges/turns on.
But Id also rather advise you to claim warranty.
This is no normal behavior and if you really test the USB Port as defective with magnetic charging being fine you would still want to claim warranty since the USB connection is crucial for a lot of useful things.

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't ship many electronic items here so I can't get the magnetic charging device.
I think after exhausting every option available to me, now is a good time to claim warranty.
Thanks for your response.

Take a known good USB cable and wall charger (must be wall - not computer) and plug it in and walk away for at least 2 hours. Don't touch, breath, look, or sniff at it. Then go back and see if you can power it on. If that fails you can try to restore it with the Sony tool or the flash tool but its likely done.

Of course, I dropped it in water! Several times, on purpose with no adverse effects. It's IP6X certified .
But that was when I first got the phone. It hasn't been intentionally submerged since then. All the ports were always sealed tight and all. I'm still really confused about what's happening to my device.

I tried this overnight, however, it didn't work.
The computer - any computer - doesn't recognise the device. It doesn't show up in device manager either.
Thanks for your input!
