Awesome Colours! - Nexus 4 General

If I'm duplicating a thread that already exists, let me know or just shut this one down, but thought I'd share some colours I use on my N4. Using Franco 155 nightly on XenonHD. Try em out and share yours as well, as everyone's eyes are different. These are the perfect combination for myself.
Screen colour tuning:
All values to 155.
Gamma settings:
(Red, Green and blue the same)
Grays: 0
Mids: 7
Blacks: 119
Whites: 7
Contrast: 2
Brightness: 0
Saturation: 7
After trying a million combinations I find these to be the best balance for me.
You must be using Franco's kernel to adjust the gamma settings, and I highly recommend buying his app
Get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nexus4displaycontrol
I found that a good way to test your colours is to open the browser to Google for whites, the play store for grays and mixed colours, and dark settings of your ROM if it's supported.

My stock nexus 4 is very similar to my monitor which is calibrated with a Pantone huey, my nexus 7 however is a pile of crap.

All values 155? That right?

Second that! OP settings are really dark compared to the setting you provided which I was using already which are brilliant.
So OP you might want to try these instead and you'll be surprised by the difference.

Guess its a "to each their own" kind of thing, because I find these colours really bad! Lol
Anyhow, like I said we all have different eyes and opinions, just mainly wanted to have people share their combinations so maybe someone finds a preset that they enjoy

Whats your kernel?

2.6.35.7 thats my kernel. For example if there is a degradation from black to white you will see clear the black them a non smoth dark gray then gray then light gray you can clearly see the patterns. Im really dissapointd. Another thing if a take a screen shot it will look better on the pic. How weird its that?

[App] screen filter

Many may have different opinion , personally felt good
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5oYXhvciJd
set your display brightness to 75% with adapt to light and set screen filter 48% and see you viewing angles, i felt it has improved for two reasons from .253 the screen calibration has been better and deeper colors along with this layer of filter dulls your screen to give you better colors ( darker / saturated ) try it for yourself and post your best setting for the filter..
Hit thanks if this app helped you

I think the app basically reduces the back light rather than the brigtness
Great application. I m on .307 and set brightness at 50% adapt to light and screen filter at 69%,looking great on my phone,it does improve colors making it dark and saturated.

App - Adiust contrast and back light

By The app on the or rather the settings availble in XZ basically only increases the brightness along with the back light , therefoer loosing the clarity and rich colors when in maximum ,
Here is an app which can controll it individually , indoors i like the setting 50 % on both levels to get that dark deep colors along with minimal brightness
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.ScreenDim.Full&hl=en
test ur settings and post your likings and settings config below is something intresting , the samples with the viewing angles after I have set the app to 50 - 50
Before the app with 100 % brightness check the head on screen and the side view
and then after the app enable with 50% setting and additional deep viewing angle
Edit 1 i can 100% confirm viewing angles are great than ever with 50% on both... and derpest colors.. love xz more than ever...
guess more tweaking and adjustments give better vibrancy .. share your settings...
I agree, viewing angles have increased incredibly!
My system settings are
Brightness: 100%
White balance: saturation 9.5%
colortone 0%
Screen dim settings
BRIGHTNESS:70.2%
Contrast: 94.2%

[Q] A brighter note

there was an app called a brighter note for my note 2 to make my screen a little bit birghter than the stock adjustment. is there such a apk for the note 3 or any plans of one? Please dont start flaming over making the phone brighter. i like the screen to be a bit brighter thats just me.
no one on this? someone has to know how the old brighter note app worked and transfer it to this one
It's 2 completely different software builds. It won't work.

I use Lux Dash since I think it does a better job at controlling auto brightness, but it's a paid app. You have the ability to manually adjust how much higher than 'normal' it is, e.g. always be 5% or 10% brighter than 'normal throughout the entire ambient light range.
Don't know about brighter note app but lux has been working great for me on s3, note2 and now note3.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You people keep saying brighter this and brighter that with lux, which is not the case. Lux does not give you the option to set the brightness any higher than 100%.

If that was what he was asking, then you're right. He phrased it as wanting a bit more brightness than the normal adjustment, which sounded like auto brightness. Lux will let you ramp up throughout the ambient light range faster than stock.
OP - why not contact the original developer of that app and ask whether he can add a Note 3 version? The Note 3 screen is quite a bit brighter and easier to read outdoors IMO than the Note 2 , but I do understand a desire to have a brighter screen.

Screen tint issue?

Just picked up this phone a few days ago.
Overall love the build. Am coming from s7 edge.
Concerned about the screen though.
The s7 edge seemed yellowish in basic mode but the other modes were not. Adaptive display was very nice and adjustable too.
Note 8 screen temperature is very warm. Whites look yellow brownish. They don't change between the different modes.
Adaptive display is the only fixand even there it requires several adjustments.
For me they best whites are with temp set to warm and then the green dialed down to about 20-25% of max. That gives me best colors.
However feel like I should have better whites on the other screen modes.
I find if I look at the screen about 20*of axis then the screen whitens up.
Do others find the same our is mine defective? Trying to decide if I should keep this or wait for the LG V30 which night be better to manage size wise.
Sent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk
Take it to the store and compare side by side, make sure the settings and brightness are the same and decide from there. Sending mine back.
Have you made sure the Blue Light Fliter is off?
Is Warm supposed to be a slight yellow hue? I thought.
Warm on my Note 8 is pink hue .I have mine set to adaptive, with *#15987# reddish tint set to minus 9 and it looks good. Also, the Basic mode in display does nothing for the color saturation like it did in previous Galaxy devices. Still looks over saturated. I assume this is their new red oled panels LOL
OP , try and post some pics of your issue.
Will submit pics tomorrow.
Blue light not on.
I think my eyes will adapt over time.

Which test is this? I think my phone seems to have the same tinting problem
The color balance test helped mine. Wife's Note 8 was already set at -3 ,mine was zero and changed it to -9 which lessened the pink hue. That with adaptive display and it's settings also reduced pink to an extent where mine looks good to my fussy eyes now.

It's not a test, you press a number and it in turn changes the red tint value on the display. Just the red.

I'm a home theatre enthusiast so I've done a few basic measurements with my calibration equipment. I'm not terribly interested in doing anymore testing than this until we get system wide color management controls/options as there is no point. Any critical grading will be done with other programs and almost always on a computer via programs like BlackMagic Resolve and the like.
***PRE-Post edit, lol***
I decided I'll make a separate thread with everything I was going to post regarding the display modes. I wasn't planing on making a big post but my OCD got the better of me
I figured it would be more useful to others in general as a separate thread, rather than being in a thread about screen tinting.
I'll reply back in here when I finish making it (it'll take a bit).
