(Q) calibrate battery - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, maybe you can help me
Last two weeks I am having some problems behavior with my battery, after unplugging the phone from overnight charge the battery drains pretty fast, after 5 minutes goes from 100 to 97 or 95. Yesterday decided to reboot the phone when it was 92 but after that the phone reboot with 88 percent.
The day before I let the phone went to 6% and started to navigate and use some apps trying to reach 1% so I can plugged to the charger and see if the problem get solved but, after 30 minutes went from 6 to 4%
I don't know what to do
I am using battery stats since the problem started but I cannot see anything weird, also wakelock detector is going well
Any clues?
Thanks in advanced

So you are using an Xperia z.. This kind of problem is quite unseen in such a good smartphone.. Switch on your Sony pc companion and see if updates are available and if not try installing the stock firmware through pc companion.. It will show you repair your phone option... Try it.. In the meanwhile I will search if any other solution is available

Post logs, you guessing doesn't help your case. Something is eating the battery, thats a fact, Better Battery Stats will show what it is. So again: post logs.

Happened to me before, what i did is:
Charge your phone to 100%,unplug the charger and do a hard shutdown(volume up+power 15 seconds).
Keep it off and charge it offline till the battery animation shows full.
Unplug the charger and turn the phone on,you will notice it's not @ 100% so plug the charger again till 100% and done.
Long but good

Is not a guess is something I have been monitoring, I deleted the fast dormancy wakelock and somehow it helped but I was reading that sometimes you need to do something to calibrate the battery, any way, I will post the stats

Yes I am using a Xperia Z, I already did that, now I am in 307 and I am having this problem with this and old firmware, I also performed a restore of firmware, so my best guess is that my battery needs calibration

Here are my stats, nothing unusual in my opinion, what do you think?

Google services had short of 200 wakeups and system processes produced 300+ wakeups. That's already not so good for a starter. And there's the msm_hsic_host wakelock, which IIRC originates from the modem on the latest Qualcomm boards; they stupidly (?) chose to attach the modem via a usb interface which causes wakelocks, I believe.
Anyway, can you give me Better Battery Stats "Other", "Kernel wakelocks" and "Partial wakelocks" as well as "Alarms", please?

How long the "off" charge took with you, and what is the "full battery" animation?
Is it full green battery with the lightning bolt (something like on attached picture), or should it change to something different ?
Thanks in advance

Again the usb modem wakelock is there for 1h+ and 1h powermanager. Of 4h waketime you had 2h screentime.
I see AudioOut_2, appears often when having screen and ui feedback enabled. I'd suggest to disable all 4 options at the bottom at "Settings > Tones".
Do you live/work/be in an area with weak or no signal? I see 2h 44 no data connection. Could the phone be constantly searching for signal in that time?

Stamina Mode calculation issue

Previously with stamina mode on it would show standby time of a couple if days. Now, it's showing only 14 hours, no matter whether I switch it on or off. So, seems like a problem with the stamina mode calculation. Anyone experiencing this?

I think it learns from your usage.. As mine now only shows 8 when on 7 hours when off
But I get several warnings of apps preventing stamina.. This could also change the calculation

I had this problem more than once, for God-know reason. I found no way but to reflash rom. This miscalculation is no much meaning and affects nothing, so ignore it.

i see this
But don't think about it cause ur phone will properly (battery is healthy 100%)
1. that might be a bug in calculation of estimated time
2. learning how u use ur phone
> the guru app of snapdragon also works based on how u use ur phone.
and i think it will collect required data and refresh itself after 100% charging.
i had 4day
then i got 1days
after that i got 2.5days
and for last charging i got 17hrs
> my opinion; it s about learning
check it urself remember how u use it for last days.:good:

Well still no luck with the calculation even after fully discharging the battery and then a full charge. Maybe it's a software bug. Anyway, I did a factory reset and then restored. Seems ok now but I will monitor and see if it reoccurs.

Hi, the problem is maps app of google, I solved the problem with a factory reset and freezing maps app
Stamina Mode is working properly
*
i had 4day
then i got 1days
after that i got 2.5days
and for last charging i got 17hrs
*
100% charge > 17 hrs
>>> ~ 37% charge > 1day
22% charge > 15 hrs
Stamina Mode learns How you use your phone.
the day before 17hrs i used it alot
after 17hrs i used it alot again till ~70% charge.
then i didn use it for half day So in ~37% power management showed 1 day.
SO There s no problem with battery configuration & NO bug in Stamina Mode.

[Q] Phone is always awake (battery drain overnight)

So I got my One two days ago and installed some apps, running on stock 4.1.2.
According to the system monitor my phone is ALWAYS AWAKE, even when I turn it off and only plug in the charger.
How can I solve it, how can I find what app is keeping my phone awake? I am losing like 50% battery overnight while in airplane mode
Thanks, BBLN.
It's difficoult found the app.
So try with an hard reset or see in dev settigs if there is the voice selected

Nope, it's like my phone is draining while being idle (On battery usage: Phone Idle - 50%).
I closed some running services, seems like now he is finally really idle.

battery stats is wrong...

my XZ died at 20% (jump straight to 0% and auto switched off ), so I think the phone mis-measured the real battery level.
since there is no wipe battery stats option in cwm anymore, how do I fix this issue?
thanks

oh is this a general problem with the new. 423 firmware?
thanks
Just to correct a misconception on battery stats. The option to wipe the batterystats.bin file was removed from newer versions of CWM (and TWRP) because it does precisely nothing that is useful.
That file is deleted and recreated every time your phone is fully charged and has no effect on the percentage of battery shown to you.

tried it, and i think this method is working!
my phone battery dropped to 13% and was still on, warning message also pop up at 15% as usual.
P.S. i charged it again at 13% coz i needed to use it, will test it later

[BUG] Battery Bug for Stock 4.2.2

THIS BUG CAN DO HARM TO YOUR BATTERY! BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHEN THE BATTERY DRAINS!
As we all may encounter the battery bug after upgrading to .423 fw. When one restarts his phone, he has chances that the battery level of the phone rises (e.g., I turned off mine just now at 26% and turned it on showing 51%). This has been confirmed by many users in the forum, so I believe it is a firmware level bug of 4.2.2.
Is there any one willing to pay some time on fixing it? Coz this is a quite crucial bug for us, we dont know when will our phones automatically turn off! Thanks in advance
I believe its not a caliboration thing coz we also upgrade or wipe our devices before, and no such thing happened. I think its a firmware or kernel level bug. Does anyone who flashes a custom kernel also encounter the same problem?
It seems that Spanish FW is free from this bug.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43261281
plz report your rom or base FW in the reply. Thanks.
[NEW EDIT]
It seems that I fix the bug. The battery jumps when the phone restarts, so I think there is something during boot which causes the issue. I delete the XZDualRecovery, and test the phone several times, and its fine!
Deleting XZDualRecovery might be a temporary fix, so you can choose what to do
[NEW EDIT 2]
someone reports that they dont encounter the bug and believes that its the calibration thing. i declare again that i DID the calibration and the issue was still there. for me, at least, deleting XZDualRecovery fixes the bug. plz report more details in the reply, like fw, root or not, recoveries. Thank you
I don't think there is a bug here.
Never happened to me,cause i did full wipe while flashing.
Maybe it happens only for users that didn't wiped everything.

hello all me too experienced the same problem but I successfully regained my battery life. Here is what I have done....
1)First I drained the battery fully until mobile gets switched off
2)Then I left the mobile to cool off for half an hour
3)After that I charged the battery upto 100%
4)Following this I switched on the Mobile and did the battery calibration by using 'Battery Calibration' app
5)Again I fully drained the battery and charged it again to 100%
Now the battery life seems good. I checked this by using WiFi whole night....battery lasted overs 12hrs

This is exactly what I concern. I dont know when my phone is going to off, and it could be big trouble when there is no access to the charger.
Maybe we just need to recalibrate, drain battery to 0% and fully charge it to 100% while the phone is turned off.

I experiencing the same issue. 2% to 55% after reboot. wow... 4.2.2 doesn't bring anything for me to consider to keep it. so back to 4.1.2 (.4.3.4)
But one thing for sure (never discharge a lithium ion / polymer battery from full to 0 they don't like it) you could do that with nickel cadmium/ metal hydride batteries ant they really thank for that if you keep doing that you just kill your battery before its due time.

Bad Battery performance on my OB.

Hey folks! I have recently started observing that my phone is consumimg excessive battery. I really cant seem to understand the cause, but for sure, I know there is an issue unknown to me. As I can see and observe, the situations I've faced are as follows:
1. When fully charged and unplugged, usage on wi-fi, screen on and some music leads to empty battery in almost 2 hours sharp.
2. When fully charged and unplugged, wi-fi off, sync off, GPS off, data off and literally everything off including the screen, then from 100% charge to 25% charge in 8 hours.
3. When I use the phone, as mentioned in point 1, suppose the phone discharges from 100% to say 60% in 40 minutes, the thing I do is turn the screen off. Then as soon as I do this, the battery level rises up until I turn the screen on again. Funny! :/ xD
4. Now the final case is this. When I turn of the phone at suppose 20%( probably unreal charge stats), connect it to a charger, and then while connected, switch on the phone, the phone gets charged up to like 50% or so. Epic fail!
5. Oh I almost forgot, battery usage charts show Android OS consuming 40-85% of the charge at all times in which the wakelock stats are an alarming 3-4 hours as per the 2nd point. Screen consumes 30% of the charge and Android System follows
I am posting my battery usage screenshots here.
1. The first screenshot was the one before I rebooted at 20% charge. Look at the roller coaster battery stats. XD
2. The second screenshot is the one showing all the stupid processes consuming excess battery.
3. Observe the difference towards the extreme right of the third screenshot and the first one. The third screenshot was the one after I rebooted. There is a long white line at the right end of the third one which shows the rise of battery charge from 20% to 56% precisely. Bloody hell!!
:/
Kindly, anyone who feel that they can help, look into this matter and suggest me good options to follow.

Well You are right about Xperia apps. The Facebook inside Xperia extensions suck up the battery. But that is just a part of the story for me. I've been having the same amount of consumption in almost all the ROMS I've tried so far.
