[Q] Home button - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just a quick question, apologies if its been answered somewhere esle, but couldnt find it.
As the kindle fire doesnt have a physical home buton, when installing an Android ROM, are the soft home and back buttons permanently displayed, or do they pop up like on the kindle stock OS?
Many thanks,

Soft keys issue with Kindle app

Quick note, wanted to see if there's an easy fix. In the Kindle app, there is a slider on the bottom of the screen that allows you to quickly move through the book. Pretty important. Unfortunately, the NC's "soft keys" obscure almost the entire slider, so if you're very very very lucky you can grab it and move through the pages, but are more likely to do something else - hit a soft button, turn the Kindle menu off, or nothing.
Is there an easy fix for this? A quick but temporary way to dismiss the soft keys? Something?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
Bump ... anyone seeing this?

[Q] Archos70 softkeys

is it possible to get the same softkeys from the archos 70 series onto the nook. im not really a fan of the current soft key solutions and archos seems to have found a legitimate solution that works really well. it would also be a big plus to get rid of the regular nook bar at the botto or would this only be possible on a custom rom?
Try button Savior for soft keys..its great.
//from the nook COLOR
I'm using button savior and like the way it works except it doesn't work for me all the time. For example last nigth I was playing with the SNES Emulator and loaded a game, I brought up button savior to go back and it wouldn't work. The only button that would work was the home button.
you can use home switcher to set it to the n button so that way one click brings up the menu
I don't have a issue with the way the buttons are brought up just the fact that they don't work all the time when they do come up.
i understand about button savior and all that but i find the built in softkeys on archos tablets to be a much more enjoyable experience. ive used my friends achos 70 and they are very convenient and add up to being alot better then button savior. just wondering if this could be ported to the nc
wouldn't it be easier to make the current nook taskbar system persistent/have the back and menu buttons all the time?
I found a thread that did just this, look for nook color soft keys. The only problem is the never worked for me, if you can find a way to make these apps to work please post here, because I as would like the aoftkeys from the archos devices and even a notification bar on top? Just s you know

[Q] auto-nooted my nookcolor, now the "n" doesnt work

i wiped my device, and then reinstalled the 1.1.0 version and then used the 3.0 version to auto-noot the device.
all seems to have gone fine, except now my "n" doesnt work so i cannot close applications and go back to my desktop.
can anyone please assist me with fixing this?
thank you.
I had the same problem. I found it to be soft keys. Get rid of soft keys, downlad button savior, and reset your launcher. That at least worked for me.
Sent from my LogicPD Zoom2 using XDA Premium App
thank you.
will do.
is that downloadable in the market?
i use maemo devices, so not to familiar yet with this. but will get it.

Click to collapse
would you mins sharing how to reset the launcher?
i thought it was the soft keys after tapping the circle to bring up the menu and the tapping the house brought the desktop.
i looked for some way to reverse using the sofkeys, but could not find it.
Related Question
I am running Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 SD Card Rom. On the development forum it says that you push "N" once for Launcher Pro. You push "N" twice for softkeys and long press for recent task. Whenever I push "N" once it just goes back to the home screen. I am new to launcher pro so my question is what is suppose to happen when I push "N" once. Is the launcher pro app suppose to load up? Is launcher pro just my home screen so if I push "N" it always goes back to homescreen? What is suppose to happen? I am new.
If softkeys is set up wrong, yeah it'll do the wrong thing

Read the above, then read below....
Personally I have made "Single Tap: Softkeys" because it's more often I'm popping that up than going Home, but it's a little messy when you first boot, so I still suggest most folks set it as per the Wiki.
And long press doesn't exist in Softkeys except for the VIRTUAL OVERLAY which pops up at the bottom of the screen. Long-press of the hardware button doesn't do anything. Be nice if it would, then we could put 3 actions on it

Having Trouble Going Back in Stock Reader

So I have been using the stock reader to read books since I rooted my NST, but have no way of going back in it I have the top left page turn button configured for back in Android, but the library app doesn't recognize this. I also have lost the software back button in the bar at the top of the screen. Any ideas?
try to fix permission or remap buttons through nook touch tools and then reboot
I'm guessing that you don't use Button Savior, then? Well, if you can get to the Nook Touch Tools, you can set one of the other physical buttons to home.

[Q] I can't get back to default carousel

Hi, this is my first post because I'm pretty frustrated. I have a rooted Kindle Fire HD 7". I rooted it many months ago and I use Go Launcher EX, everything worked perfectly fine and I could easily read books by pressing the kindle home button.
But now when I try to go to the carousel the screen is dark grey, then blinks as if something was going to show up, but then it goes grey again. I press the home icon and it's back to normal.
Does anyone have this same problem or know how I can fix this? Thanks!
