[MOD] Change 4G icon on your ONE [UPDATED METHOD] - Sprint HTC One (M7)

MAKE SURE YOU DO A NANDROID BACKUP FIRST!!!!
This is my updated method, you will be editing your own SystemUI.apk, so it should work this time.
This method worked for me and I'm using the STOCK SPRINT ROM
What you will need
-Rooted HTC One
-Root Explorer from the Play Store
-7-Zip for windows
STEPS
Download the corresponding Zip file with the LTE icons that you want.

Now, use the Root Explorer app on your phone and navigate to the System/App folder, now COPY your SystemUI.apk to the SDCard folder.
Now plug your phone in to your computer. I would suggest copying the SystemUI.apk to your Documents folder and keep it as a backup, then copy another one to your Desktop for editing purposes.
Once you have copied one to your desktop, right click on it, and click on 7-Zip -> Open Archive. Navigate to res -> drawable-xxhdpi. Now Unzip the zip file you just downloaded from here, then drag those 4 files to the 7Zip window that you opened up. Click yes to overwrite, wait for the process to finish, then close the window.
Now copy that SystemUI.apk that it's in your desktop (your edited one) and paste it back to your phone's SDCard and overwrite the one that's there.
Now, open Root Explorer App, on the top, click where is says Mount R/W. Scroll down and tap on the sdcard folder. Find the SystemUI.apk, long press it then press copy. After that, press back, then go to the System/App folder. Once again, press the Mount R/W button, if it says Mount R/O then don't press that. Then simply paste the SystemUI.apk and hit yes when it asks you to overwrite it.
SystemUI might crash a lot, don't worry about it.
Scroll down and find the newly upgraded SystemUI.Apk in the System/App folder, long press it and press Permissions.
Now set your permissions like this
X=Checked
O= Unchecked
X----X-----X
X----O----O
X----O----O
After that just Restart your phone!
That's it!

Hey thanks for the tutorial. Super easy to follow.
Quick question.. I've posted in other threads with no avail.. But could you let me know how to change it to these icons?
Thanks

Do you have system wp?
Also, if you have any other themes won't this overwrite it?

It will, since the SystemUI app is from the stock ROM

Edit. It does in fact revert to the stock icon after reboot. Actually never seen it change during file name changes and permission fix. Unlocked system write protection as well. Hmm...

EDIT: I uploaded the wrong script. Be back with the right one soon
Heres a empty.zip template to flash whatever. Use 7Zip to put your apk in the appropriate folder and flash in recovery. System apps can be a pain copying them over with a file manager.

So, how is this "coming along" seeing as how the customized (well, technically stock) System UI more-or-less will "break" any themes on various ROMs.
I'm using a heavily transparent-focused theme, and presumably since this replaces the original System UI, the icon itself will be there, whereas the rest of the custom icons will then be returned to their original state.

check your PM's and let me know, i have a better way of doing all of this
basically it uses the Vr theme engine to apply the new icons, this means a user need to just flash the zip and it should work with any rom they are running. I haven't tested them extensively, however i did some tests with the wifi icon so i know things are in the right place i just dont have LTE to test currently

sprint
T-mo
Verizon
AT&T

updated my old post till the OP is updated, all you need to do is flash the zip you'd like, the sprint zip is return to stock

Just wondering, the TMo and AT&T icons look fairly similar, or is that just me?
The Thanks button is just to avoid "THANKS" posts in threads. Nothing more. Don't defeat the purpose of why it was introduced.

they are actually pretty different the AT&T one has a big 4G and it looks almost cartoonish in nature, where as the T-mobile one looks closer to a normal font

Also doesn't the Att version have the up/down signals on the upper right corner of the icon as a "wave" or curved lines instead of arrows on the bottom?

Gingerbread based theme for Ascend and MDPI & HDPI devices Update [1/10]

Update 1/10 Minor update to some, maybe major to others, I've made some changes to the status bar pull down for Ascend users, I've changed the main text to be black, I'm still not completely happy with it, so i'll keep tweaking... Also, I've added support for HDPI devices in the Gingerbread3.5.zip, in general the theme should work on a wider variety of devices.

Update 1/9 The theme is pretty much complete
In order for Ascend users to get the white clock you need to download buildprop and replace the one under your system folder with it. You'll have to be rooted and use a file manager or you could use adb shell or a terminal to replace your build.prop
Another change to the build.prop for the popups!!!
Special thanks to yuyuye for the information.
I've attached some screenshots of the theme in action. There are many more changes not visible in the screenshots, the majority of the framework-res have been updated to match the new theme.
UPDATE 12/16
I've attached the metamorph theme in case anyone wants to try it, i would say it's beta quality as it's not finished, but it's usable. Just load the v0.1.zip file on to your sdcard, download metamorph and install away. If you have any basic questions, feel free to ask but I won't be providing an major support yet because it's not finished. I would say it's 75% complete at the most. And as always, you shouldn't have any problems but USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
UPDATE 12/22
New version v0.3 with a change to the submenu, I changed the submenu to white so the text is legible until i can get the Ascend deodexed and properly change the color of the text...
The download labeled GingerbreadAscend3.zip is may specifically for the Ascend I don't recommend anyone apply it on any other phones
The download labeled Gingerbread3.zip is for any and all MDPI phones
Have fun!!!

Insrtuctions for installation:This is a Metamorph theme, so download and install Metamorph. Put the theme on your sdcard. Make sure your phone is rooted, you have busbox downloaded and installed and that usb debugging is turned on
For Ascend users, download your appropriate build.prop file and use a program like root explorer or subfs to copy and paste it into the /system/ directory, if you don't want to purchase one of those programs, download this program from the market "Mount /system (rw / ro)" open it and mount the system as r/w then use adb shell or a terminal emulator to copy the file over
Code:

cp /sdcard/build.prop /system/build.prop

Made a little progress using apk manager to decompile some of the xmls, got the date to show up white but still not the time and popup option menus(not sure what to call them). If anyone has any expertise, I could use the help....
Keep up the good work, I am looking fws to checking it out!
If you send me your framework-res.apk I can fix the code for the pop-up menu text.

Thanks, but problem is I don't have a "values" folder in my framework, much less an xml called "style" in any of the folders...
wait..
I'm an idiot... found it
It wasn't re-compiling the whole framework for me either, i had to to trick it to get it to re-compile the styles.xml by putting it in a different folder and renaming it... Flashed it to my phone.... and... no difference, pulled the framework back down and made sure the changes where present and they are... the Ascend doesn't seem to use those files at all... I'm pretty sure too because i accidentally deleted all the files in the values folder except the styles.xml and the phone works fine...
Thanks for your ideas Benny879, if you have any insight as to whats going on, I'd appreciate any help you could give, in the mean time i'm going to be pouring through these xml files, looking for any clues...
For anyone following the progress on this, the problem seems to be that this phone uses odex files instead of the more easily assessable jar or apks, so I'm looking into deodexing the necessary files... If anyone could offer assistance, I would appreciate it...

The gingerbread metamorph theme I'm working on will change your lock screen sliders, your notification bar and slide down, your dialog confirmation buttons, market place tab button and a bunch of other misc graphics, your signal bars, battery, bluetooth, etc... The theme i'm working on doesn't touch the launcher. i personally use launcher pro, so this theme doesn't conflict with it, but if you want your launcher specifically to look like gingerbread's, you can find themes already made for launcher pro..

[Battery] Crysis eVolution - New easy installation method [17.03]

Hello Guys
I have designed a glow circle battery for my own use, but I decided to post it here so you may use it in case you like it
The battery was developed on a i9000, but I analyzed the framework from captivate and it seems that this procedure will work on captivate also. Please try and feedback.
If you like my work, please consider a small donation to help me continue developing.
Change log:
17.03.2011
-Reorganized the threat so everyone could easily mod his own framework. Follow the new installation instructions
-Added CWM file only with script so you can use it with your framework file safely.
-Uploaded new reorganized image packages.
14.03.2011
-added new charger images. -- Beams -- ( i might rework them in the next days) --
-added missing images for full charge and so on...
-I will modify tomorrow morning the threat, with new reorganised files cause it became a little confusing
03.02.2011
CAUTION:
Flash only if you have DOC's ROm, because some users stated that on Darky they had problems. Not sure why, because it should work - they're both deodexed roms. Do a BACKUP
-Added CWM files for V1, V2 - with percentage and clear at charging
-Working to a new animation for charging, a lot better than this one, but I can;t tell you when it will be ready because I have a lot to work for my school
02.02.2011
Finished creating charging icons and XML editing for animation. I Added two versions of the framework:
-Version 1 : loops the circle animation continuous, without showing the current amount of battery after each loop
-Version 2 : Shows after each loop the amount of battery
01.03.2011
I just created another battery with life indicators on the margins
INSTALLING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download 3 packs: one with images of the battery (batt1 or batt2), one of the chargers (Glow, or BEAMS) and one of the charging animation images (with percentage and without).
2. Download CWM_update.zip
3. Place the files from the battery pack and charger inside your framework-res.apk file, in /res/drawable-hdpi.
4. Place the file from charging script inside your framework-res.apk file, in /res/drawable
5. put the modified framework-res.apk file inside the framework folder, of the CWM_update.zip.
6. Reboot in CWM.
7. Clear cache.
8. Clear Dalvik.
9. Flash the file.
10 Reboot and enjoy

Real nice!
I already used these for a test port. I think it looks better on the computer screen than on the phone. Or it could have been that the other icons need to match better. Actually, i'm sure it would look better in a complete theme.

1. I am refering at the folder drawable, in wich you must put the charging XML, not file drawable.
2. I recomend the CWM update methos, as you might get bootloops or FC with Root Explorer
That may cause some problems dropping a compiled xml in to a different framework as some of the reference ids might be different. Dragging png files in is never a problem though... as long as you can live with the current xml files.

no man, not that;s what i mean. the battery, the charger, and the XML for making the animation are put in separate packages. all these packages must be combined, at your preference, in your framework-res.apk file. (you open the framework-res.apk with WINRAR and then you put the images in the folder drawable-res-hdpi and the xml in drawable. TAKE CARE to save the file with no compression!!! after that, put the file in CWM_updater, in framework folder. THIS FILE (cwm_updater) you will flash with CWM. Got it?

[MOD+GUIDE] Carrier logo's for stock ROMs (and others)

I have always loved the extended settings Andy Thomoson has made for MIUI (found here), especially the carrier logo's in the statusbar
Well, I have been messing around with the SystemUI.apk from the latest 2.3.7 OTA for the NS4G and made it accessible for that stock ROM. I'll make one for BuglessPete's GPA17 and maybe CM soon.
I'm pretty sure this option has been around for a while but it really is a cool mod and wanted to revive it.
Here is an example of what it looks like
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The logo can be a lot of things.. Here is a good thread for some carrier logos
So here is the one I showed in the pic: download here
^^That zip was built against the 2.3.7 SystemUI.apk for the NS4G.
I will take requests. Also please refer to the second post for a "How-To"
Instructions
1) Flash ZIP in recovery and rebot
2) Download this eri.xml.zip found HERE
3) Extract that eri.xml and copy/paste it to /data
4) Change permissions to "everything"
-looks like this using Root Explorer or ES File Explorer
5) Toggle airplane mode or reboot to see changes
6) Enjoy!!
How To Submit Request
1) Post your SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from your current ROM
(SystemUI.apk is found in /system/app and /system/framework)
2) Post the carrier logo you want (or give an idea of what you want)
3) Post what ROM your using
If you want any other mods like differnt colors for the clock, date, ticker notifications, pretty much anything in the statusbar letme know and I can do that as well
GUIDE
1) Decompile your SystemUI.apk
2) Navigate to your decompiled SystemUI folder and goto
res>layout>status_bar.xml
3) Open it with word processor of choice (I prefer Notepad++)
4)Find the line that starts with
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.IconMerger
5) Place your curser right at the beginning of that line, press enter to make a space
6) In the empty line now, copy/paste this line of code
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.CarrierLabel android:textAppearance="@android:style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Icon" android:textColor="@android:color/transparent" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/carrier" android:background="@drawable/carrier_logo" android:paddingLeft="6.0px" android:paddingRight="6.0px" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
7) Save and exit
8) Now goto res>values>ids.xml
9) Open that xml and add this line to the end of the id's (right above the </resources> at the bottom)
Code:
<item type="id" name="carrier">false</item>
10)Save and exit
11) Now take your carrier logo picture you want to use and place it in res>drawable-hdpi and name it "carrier_logo"
12) Now compile your SystemUI, sign it if using apktool and make it into a flashable zip
Here's an empty flashable zip folder structure you can use
DOWNLOAD HERE
Just extract that zip, place your moddified SystemUI.apk in the /system/app folder, then select both the system and META-INF folder and zip em up
EDIT: 2-13-12
I changed the code for the carrier logo to hopefully get rid of overlapping text with carrier logo
Outstanding... Thanks fergie

Ok I attached a zip you can flash in recovery. Everything decompiled/recompiled fine with no errors.
I also attached the SystemUI.apk by itself in case the zip doesn't work, try moving the SystemUI.apk to /system/app/ and change permissions to rw-r--r--
@melvinchng
Attached is the modded SystemUI in a flashable zip and standalone apk
Just a quick reminder, don't forget to follow the instructions in the OP especially when it comes to the eri.xml to get rid of the double logo
Thank you very much, Fergie, but the mod don't work...
The ZIP file give me an error on flash in recovery and the sistem-ui make disappear the status bar...
Where is the error???
Sorry sorry

It should work
Try toggling zip verification in recovery when flashing the zip
if copy/pasting the apk by itself, you have to change permissions of the new SystemUI.apk to rw-r--r--
Or you can use adb to push it to /system/app/ then go into adb shell and run
Code:

[SIMPLE GUIDE + LOCKRINGS] [ALL ANDROID ROMS] Change lockrings on any rom

ALL OF THE LOCKRINGS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE 5TH POST
G’Day XDA,
This is a really simple to do guide on changing the lockring on both a stock Samsung circle lockscreen and the AOSP lockscreen on ALL SAMSUNG, AOSP & AOKP ROMS and essentially this same method should also work on ALL ANDROID ROMS that are both ODEXED & DEODEXED. I have tested both using my own phone which is a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 which is running a stock Samsung odexed rom. I have been told that it also works on a Sony Xperia Arc. Your specific rom may have the lockring file named as something else, so you may need to go into framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi (or-xhdpi or -mdpi depending on what device/rom you're running) to find the correct file. If you need help you can attach your framework-res.apk in here and I will do my best to help you out.
This is really easy to do for even a beginner like me, so I’m sure anyone that reads this will be able to do it. There are a few prerequisites to this mod – first of all you need a computer with an unzip style program like 7Zip, your phone needs to be rooted and you also need some kind of file manager (I use ES File Explorer but lots of people say they use Root Explorer). You will also need to have access to a program like Photoshop or Irfanview or Pixlr or Greenfish Icon Editor Pro if you want to change any pictures yourself. I have detailed everything step by step below with pictures so it should be very easy to follow.
Here's the guide…
(Lockrings in 5th post) PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU MAKE A NANDROID/CWM BACKUP BEFORE TRYING THIS - I CAN'T BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY PROBLEMS YOU FACE, BUT I WILL DO MY BEST TO HELP YOU OUT IF YOU DO RUN INTO PROBLEMS
Step 1 - You will need to download the lockring that you would like to use. I have used different styles from HERE and also from HERE and also made my own. You can find some lockring collections made by martintspedersen HERE and by shishircoolin HERE. If you are smart enough to make your own using a program like Photoshop or Pixlr then top work. Just make sure that it is definitely a PNG file. Also make sure that if you want any of it transparent that it actually is (I made this mistake and it didn’t look very good, so I had to get my gorgeous fiancée to fix it up for me, as she is highly skilled in the art of Photoshop). Save the lockring onto your computer somewhere (I keep all of my stuff in a Mods folder) and you will need to modify it soon.
Step 2 - You will need to make a copy of framework-res.apk (which is located in /system/framework) and put it anywhere onto your phone’s SD card. Again, I use a folder called Mods which is easy to locate and remember.

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Step 3 - Plug a micro USB cable into your phone and then plug the other end into your computer. Open the directory where you saved framework-res.apk (for me it is GTI9100/Phone/Mods) and move it onto your computer’s desktop.
Step 4 - Now right click on framework-res.apk and select 7Zip – Open Archive.
Step 5 - Within the opened 7Zip archive, navigate to res\drawable-hdpi\ (or res\drawable-xhdpi on a Galaxy Nexus) and locate these files:
For the stock Samsung Circle Lockscreen, find unlockscreen_lock_01.png to unlockscreen_lock_20.png. These usually have a padlock ranging in different stages of unlocking, but I have used the same picture in all of them. You can do the same or modify them slightly, it's up to you.
For the AOSP Lockscreen, find ic_lockscreen_handle_normal.png which is the lock that is visible when a hardware button is pressed, and ic_lockscreen_handle_pressed.png is the same lock with the ring around it that appears when you press the lock.
Step 6 - Change the name of the lockring PNGs that downloaded earlier and want to use to the corresponding file names. For example, I have changed the PNGs in the first picture to use in the stock Samsung Circle lockscreen and the PNGs in the second picture are for the AOSP Lockscreen:
Step 7 - Now drag the renamed PNGs into the res\drawable-hdpi folder. Click yes when it asks you to confirm.
Step 8 - Close the 7Zip archive and now copy your newly modified framework-res.apk back onto the SD card of your phone. Again for me, I use the Mods file so it's easy to find.
Step 9 - Now on your phone, open your file explorer and navigate to where your modified framework-res.apk is. Long press it and select Move To and move it to the System folder on the root directory of your phone.
Step 10 - Now navigate to the System folder and long press on the framework-res.apk and select Properties. You will see this:
Notice how the Permissions is set to rw- rw- rw-? We need to change this otherwise you'll have big problems. Click the Change button and you will see this:
Step 11 - Uncheck the Group - write and Other - write boxes so that it looks like this:
Now click OK and you will see this:
Now click OK.
Step 12 - Now long press on framework-res.apk and select Move To. Move it to the Framework folder within System.
You will see the following warning:
Click OK. Now your phone will freeze. This is ok. It will be frozen for roughly 1 - 1½ minutes, then it will restart.
Once it reboots, you will be staring at your new masterpiece!
Stock Samsung Circle Lockscreen
ICS Lockscreen
LOCKRINGS (These are made for a HDPI screen and are at 162dp x 162dp)
Ok below are a bunch of lockrings for everyone to use. I have also included the Stock ICS lockring and the Stock Samsung Circle lockring so that if you want to modify them yourself then you can. The other lockrings were made by me (apart from Metallica which was made by martintspederen). Just click on the picture you want and it will open up a new tab where you can download it. Once it's downloaded, extract the files and rename them to the appropriate file name for your particular lockscreen. Requests are both welcome and encouraged!
ALL OF THE LOCKRINGS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO THE 5TH POST, SO PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE AND DOWNLOAD THEM
Now if this post helped you I would love to know about it, so please post a reply. Even post screen shots of what you have done would be great.
Cheers XDA,
Dave

Are you talking about the wallpapers that are in the screenshots in the guide? If so then it is actually a live wallpaper. I downloaded a program called Windows 7 Dreamscene Activator which you can get from here and I know it says it is for Windows 7 but I am running Vista and it works on my computer and I know it runs on XP Premium as well.
So once you install Dreamscene Activator you just right click on any mpg file and select Set as Desktop Background and then you've got a live wallpaper. Then I just searched for dreamscene wallpaper download on Google and that's how I found the Android one which is on the Dreamscene website here but for some reason it's not working at the moment. I just uploaded it for you, so click here and you can download it. Enjoy
Thanks... Will download it tommorow morning....

I'm fairly certain that you need to go to Control Panel/Display then click on the Appearance tab and then click the Advanced button.
In this section you can change the colour for all of the backgrounds and text that you want. It's pretty cool.
Let me know how you go?

Umm I'm pretty sure it was a program called APK One Click
I've never used it to decompile though, I have always used APK Tool because it worked well with ICS Roms where as APK One Click didn't

Hoping that i'll get a reply Here..
Sure mate. What device are you using? And do you mean the lockscreen that you use to enter in a pattern to unlock the phone? How big exactly do you want it? I have a bit of an idea the files that you need to modify but I would like to know the device to be able to help you as best I can.

[GUIDE]Theming your ROM on Phone(Editing framework-res.apk to change icons)

So friends, here is a quick and easy guide for changing the status bar icons of your s5830i(Actually any phone )
For those who don't know how to do it(for anyone actually :highfive
Theory
Android is the awesome platform which is easily configurable and is able of being edited very easily
The icons used in every app and Android framework are located as png images in apk of those respective apps in location:-
*.apk/res/drawable-mdpi (in our case, as our phone is mdpi)
So, we can change any icon of our status bar like battery, signal, (not clock[clock is to be configures in SystemUI.apk{will post how to change it shortly}]), etc by editing png's in framework-res.apk
Not even that, you can edit images of any app as I told you
There are several ways to decompile and compile apk in which we have made change
If we want full access of apk and want to change every thing like the xml's in it and smali content in jar files, then we would have to do it on computer by apktool or apkmanager
But, we are here to only change image, so we would not go in detail of apktool or apkmanager. For changing images, that can be very easily done even on the phone by an app NinjaMorph that is made for developers by our senior head and DEVELOPING LEGEND Stephen(Stericson)
But be careful as backing up the original file if you do something wrong
And as you all know any developer or even a newbie posting something interesting that you want to try WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for your mobile blowing up, resting in peace, sleeping like a dead, behaving like a non-living BRICK, or anything whatsoever that may or may not happen to phone in this universe or any other universe known or unknown
What to do if anything happened to my mobile
We have had a backup of your original file so we can restore it
But if while editing the system files like framework-res.apk
If you deleted some un-backed up apk's
Well you can always have backup of your ROM and that is why Koushik Datta has made clockworkmod Recovery
You can restore your ROM from there
Pre-Requisites
Patience
Mind
A GT-S5830i (A spare one if you brick your phone, just kidding)
Root access(to change the apk)
NinjaMorph(http://bit.ly/ninjamorph)
Root Explorer(Optional)(http://bit.ly/stericson)
GUIDE
So Let's Start
Download NinjaMorph. Install it and give it root access. It will prompt for starting checks. Click on start checks.
Now you would have three options, namely, New Project, Finish Project, Existing Project
Click on new project. Go to system/framework/ and click on framework-res.apk. It will start extracting files
Once it has extracted all the files, it will open to show you what is inside framework-res.apk.
Exit it and go to your file explorer.
Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace/framework-resapk
This is what is inside apk. Go to res/drawable-mdpi folder
There you will see hundreds of icons of your menu, lockscreen, battery, signal, and everything
You can edit them and replace them as you want. But the name of the file you are replacing and size and dimension must be equal to the file you are replacing with(I recommend Googling and finding icons of battery, signal, and other things)[I have even used hdpi icons, there was no problem]
If you download a theme file which is to be flashed in recovery that is not for your phone, no problem, extract the zip and place its framework-res.apk in your sdcard and extract the apk with Ninjamorph. Replace your icons with its icons and TADA
After you have done replacing the icons and you are satisfied(I am never)
Go to NinjaMorph. Click on Fininsh Projects. Click on framework-resapk. It will recompile and ask to replace the original apk with modded one. Click OK
Then it will ask if you want to remove the completed project, Say No(As you would need it if something gets wrong)
Reboot your phone
Maximum chances are that your icons will be replaced. Rare cases have their status bar gone or no change, if so:-
Download(Buy) Root Explorer. Go to /sdcard/AndroidThemes/workspace,
There you will see framework-res.apk. Copy it and go to /system/framework
Mount as R/W
Paste the apk. If it asks that file already exists, overwrite it.
SET PERMISSIONS
Long click on framework-res.apk and click on permissions
You will see three columns
Read Write Execute
You have to set them in the following way
x means you have to tick it
blank means uncheck
Read Write Execute
.....x........x.................
.....x...........................
.....x...........................
Click OK
You will see it as rw-r--r--
Reboot
Do it over again if nothing happens
Enjoy
This way you can edit not only framework-res.apk but any apk

You should edit Mms.apk
I don't know as I never edited Mms.apk
For colour you should edit xml files
Which won't be accessed by this method
And the code you are asking for
You won't get the xml from this method
So you won't be able to edit it
