[Q] SD card slot malfunctioning - Motorola Droid 3

I recently dug out my Bell XT860 after about 6 months of disuse, and found that my external SD slot doesn't seem to be functioning. I had safestrap 3.05 as my recovery and was running a patched MavROM 4.5.
I just finished an sbf to stock 2.3.6 Bell, and still no SD.
I haven't abused this phone, so there's no reason for it to just stop working. Is it possible that somehow my mount points have gotten screwed up in /etc/vold.fstab?
If someone has seen this problem or could post the contents of their vold.fstab I would much appreciate the assistance. (I think any Droid/Milestone 3 model should have the same mount points.)

Forgot to mention, I already tried manually mounting it through System Settings -> Storage. The SD space available says unavailable, and the mount and format options are greyed out. I have also tried to mount 3 separate, known good cards with no change.

What filesystem are the SD cards formatted to?

Normally fat32 but I also tried ext3. The phone doesn't seem to recognize the sd card slot in the first place. If I could just get someone to post the contents of their Droid 3's (preferably XT860 but I think the file would be the same) /etc/vold.fstab file I could know for sure if it's just a failed sd card slot.

sd card issue

How come when i use astro it shows the files on board memory? If i use root explorer i have to go to sdcard ext to see the files. Is there anyway to change the default?

If its like the Droid 3, internal memory is mounted as /sdcard while the actual microsd card is mounted as /sdcard-ext.
The D3 was the same (I've got one of those) only it didn't come with a 16GB external micro SD. So it's got that going for it.
Same thing on the X2 :/

[Q] Captivate - cannot see SD card

Samsung i897- given to me used, Original owner said never used the sd card slot as it never came with one.
I hit flash to stock from the phone menu, it is at O/S version 2.2.
I am trying a sandisk micro sdhc 8 gb.
I put the card in the phone, the external sd was/is greyed out for mount and format.
I tried the disc in my pc and it read as fat, so I reformatted it as fat, and it still does not show in the phone.
I tried putting files on it when connected to the pc, and it worked.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Is this a common problem for this phone? Does the card need to be named something special? I looked in the manual and cannot even find what format the card should be (fat,ext4 etc).
Thanks in advance.

OK so,
Tried Formatting the sd as NTFS? what kernel do you have? what compilation of froyo do you have?
External SD is mounted as vfat.
Can you see the SD card by using a usb adaptor outside of the phone? If not, try another card. If yes, format it there as a fat and try again in phone.

[Q] CM 10 cannot see SD card

Hi,
I flashed CM 10 (latest build) yesterday night on my Bell HTC Raider 4G LTE after doing all the steps from unlocking the bootloader, to S-OFF, etc.. and all went fine. I tried to install Swiftkey but could not because it always ask for SD Card which I already have in the device. I can see the SD mount from OI File manager. Although it has some files in it, I cannot see them. I tried to run the camera, and I got the same issue asking for SD card. I hope you can help. Is there a way at least to make the internal SD take place of the external one.
This is the structure I have in my phone:
/mnt/external_sd/ (removable SD card)
/mnt/sdcard/ (empty)
/storage/sdcard0/ (empty)
/storage/sdcard1/ (removable SD card too)
/external_sd/ (again removable SD card)
There is no directory /mnt/emmc/
Get TWRP...ditch CWM
use USB mount in twrp... plug into windows... let windows format it...
Try again

I've been having the same problem with CM10 after the last build. It will see the SD card on the phone using file manager, but will not mount the SD card as a drive when connected to my Windows machine (internal storage connects fine). Another Undocumented Feature?

This is a known issue with cyanmod 10. Update to the latest CM10 or just flash another rom, till the issue gets sorted out.
you can change the mounting type to MTP and it'll mount both at the same time. also, after you connect it and click the "mount" option on the phone, it mounts one of the cards, and then if you dismount it and remount it, it'll be the other card.

Galaxy Note 4 SM910T 4.4.4- Not Recognizing SD Card

Just purchased a used Tmobile Samsung Note 4 SM910T (upgrading from a Tmobile Note 3).
First thing I did was reset the phone to factory defaults with 4.4.4 and got it running. Everything seemed to work fine, programmed the finger print scanner (a nice feature), installed some apps. Seems to work like it's supposed to. Now, time to get the SD Card switched over.
Pulling the SD Card, (Sandisk Extreme 32gb (HC I) MicroSD) from the Note 3 and putting it into the Note 4, the SD Card was not recognized. So I put is back into the Note 3 to make sure there wasn't a problem, everything showed up fine, all files and pics where still there.
So I pulled the battery, thinking the card had to be in the slot upon boot up, I inserted the SD card and powered up the phone again. Still nothing, no SD Card detected. Humm...
I had an old 8gb Sandisk card laying around, popped it into my PC to see what was on it, had some files on there so I tried putting that SD Card into my new Note 4, nothing. Not recognized. I put the old card into my Note 3, shows up fine.
When I go into "Storage" and scroll down to the bottom, "Mount SD Card" Insert SD Card" are showing, but not the normal "Total Space" "Available Space" "Unmount SD Card" and "Format SD Card" even though the SD Card is inserted correctly into the SD Card slot of the phone. I again tested that SD card in my old Note 3, still shows up fine.
I have tried reformating the 32 gb SD card on my PC, trying all 3 options NTFS, FAT32 and exFAT. I even formated in the Note 3. None of those work, I get the same result. The Note 4 does NOT recognize an SD Card at all.
Bad Hardware?
Please help. Thank you
I would suggest installing the SD and trying to see if booting up on a custom recovery you are able to see it. If in fact you can then it might be an error with the ROM and you might need to re-flash it or move to another one. I suggest TWRP since it is the one up to date and has a built in File Manager.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried doing a hard reboot (HOME/VOL UP/POWER) buttons,
clicked on "apply update from external storage" and got a response
"E: failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory) (in red)
if it is new phone and both cards are not recognized then looks like hardware problem. I would try sd card from different manufacturer than sandisk and if there are no positive results replace it under warranty.

Lol he received the marshmallow update 6.0!!!
Do not use Sandisk brand SD cards in the Note 4. They have widespread issues. Go buy a Samsung EVO and it will work.

Unlock the micro sd card

There is no physical switch. I've tried many application software in windows and linux but yet still not working. I think the last time I can modify the mircro sd card content is where I make deletion and copying on the phone mode. After I formatted the phone to, the micro sd card is no longer content-editable. I've tried format but not working. Before I format the phone, its OS is lolipop and I upgraded to nougat. Lost the ability to copy file after upgrading. Downgrading back still not working

What phone are you using, what's the model?
Were you rooted on Lollipop?
If so did you reroot after upgrading to Nougat?
Are you on a custom ROM or have a custom recovery?
What's the file system currently on the MicroSD card?
What file manager application are you using that is not allowing you to copy/edit files on the Micro SD card?
Are sure nothing can write to the Micro SD card, have you tried loading a Terminal app to get things command line, or another file manager application?
Last thing I can think of, is can you take the Micro SD card out and put it into a computer and see if it will format?
Could be randomly the SD card just died when you were upgrading? Usually when my cards go, it's around when I'm doing an OS load... For whatever reason. I've killed 3 Micro SD cards in the last 7 years.

I use samsung galaxy y s5360. I did rooted my device by upgrading to lolipop. I delete all partition when I downgrading back to lolipop from nougat. I think the system is in the phone itself. Any file manager I try they say success but after I double checked the files gone, I'm on custom ROM. I have taken the micro sd out and format it in windows env or linux env with higher permission. If the microsd card when upgrading then there's nothing I can do?

Do you have a custom recovery like TWRP? Are you able to boot into the custom recovery and use the file manager in there to see if it can read and write. That's outside of the OS and if it can write to the Micro SD then that means the phone is good hardware wise. If not, try formating inside of the recovery then try file manager. Again o ly if you have a custom recovery will this work.
If you're able to write to the Micro SD card in recovery, then maybe the issue is with the custom ROM? Have you tried going back to the factory firmware and see if the SD card works? That's probably where I would go to start first, since downgrading you're still having problems.
If you've pulled it out and put it in a computer, you can format and write files to it... That's a good sign that it can be written to, at least it means the Micro SD card is function.

Sorry I've tried tested on Clockworkmode recovery v5.0.2.8 but still not working. It return success but still have the previous content. I'm not sure whether this means the micro sd card is encrypted . I've tested in on PC but not work at all.

My apologies I thought it was successful on the PC.
If you try it in a computer and you can not do anything to the cars, then more than likely there is something wrong with the card. At this point I would try another Micro SD.
If it was encrypted you would not be able to see any files on it in recovery. Plus if you are in your recovery (Clockworkmode) and not able to format/partition the Micro SD in there, problems.
Because with the encryption the phones do, you can still delete partitions and repartition and format the Micro SD. Would lose all of your files of course, but would make the card usable again. Trust me I've done that a few times, encrypted then the phone would crash... And the card was locked until repartitioned and formated.

Sounds like it from everything you tried. Wish I had better news. But I have found when you can not repartition the card, especially on a PC, it's done for. Whatever the reason. That's why I I ly deal with Samsung or Kingston branded cards. Those are the ones I've had the longest and haven't failed, being used on multiple devices over the years.
