Amazon OS - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have any idea if Amazon plan on updating their software to Jellybean ? I am just curious

Nobody knows except Amazon, but I'd say highly unlikely for current devices, maybe when they release a new device they might make the jump.

[Q] Dev phone worth buying?

Hi, dear developers, did you all buy the dev phones from google? will the price cheaper buying it this way?
And since recently the Nexus One is rumored to be the next dev phone, I'd like to know if you guys can purchase it from google now? And what is (would be) the price if it's available?
Price is 529, and it is the next dev phone and yes you can purchase it now.
Thanks a lot for the information.
What is your feeling for this phone? Seems it's not as competitive as the newer phones right now. In the last one or two months there are so many new android phones out.
If you want to make Froyo rom or apps for Froyo, is it a good fit?
Anything is possible, it's up to you, your choice. It's up to you if you're willing to put 529 for it, but a lot of developers do have this phone, just look at the Nexus section here. But I won't pay 500 bucks for something I can't see before buying (that's whole another story). And the N1 will be the first to get any new Android updates in the future, cause it's Google's baby. It's up to you now.
The "dev" phone is an unlocked nexus 1, nothing more nothing less. The last dev phone was the Ion/G1. Do you want a nexus 1? Do you have $529 to waste on a phone that you dont really need to use as a dev phone?
Simple questions to ask yourself.
The "dev phone" is a regular, bone stock, GN1. No difference. Bootloader IS LOCKED exactly the same as it always was, and it still accepts "fastboot oem unlock". Note that the warranty details DO NOT in ANY WAY suggest that doing so will affect the warranty IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER, which some people MISTAKENLY thought was previously part of the warranty, where it was actually just in the FAQ designed to prevent dummies from screwing themselves up.

[Q] When is the 10" Elocity coming out

Thinking about getting A7 ,but want to see the new ones first,I know I can preorder but when will they be out
I heard it was suppose to be March the 7th, but other than that I am not sure. SteamTV has been promising to release A10 since January 18th and than in Feburary so don't be too shocked if it still shows up as Preorder.
Its 3/8/2011 and the A10 is STILL on the pre order list at Tiger!. I wonder if it will be at stores by 2012?
Is this about accessories?
I don't trust the company, or the specs on the A10
The reason why I don't trust the company is obvious - repeatedly delayed, with no explanation. This is not the way to build a customer base.
The reason why I don't trust the specs is that Apple is releasing the iPad 2 with a 1024x768 screen, and the new Malata device is also being released with the same. So, am I to believe that Stream TV managed to get a higher resolution IPS screen into their A10, whereas Apple could not? I am not convinced.
If this ever gets released (I'm still guessing EO this month or April), I want to hear reviews first before I decide to push the button. Bottom line: If they backpedal on the specs and add a TFT screen instead of IPS, there's no way that I'm buying this thing.
Stream TV, prove me wrong here. Get on XDA and tell us what's going on - this is a situation where I WANT to be proved wrong.
10" Elocity release? Have a 7", wishing not...
I wouldn't put much credence into anything Elocity says at this point. We've had the A7 since January, and thanks only to Dexter's mod making this thing truly usable, we didn't return it. Usable, that is, until I did Elocity's latest FW update. Mistake. Can no longer download from market. Did cache clear, data wipe, tried reinstalling Dex's mod, all to no avail. I'ts like the standard POS we got back in Jan all over again. Spent hours messing with this thing today and I'm pretty sick of it. Tried restore after restore of backups and it runs and runs for hours before finally blanking out and going to home screen, not having done the backup no less. Anyone else having the same issues with the latest Elocity FW update?
Don't expect Elocity to do anything about it
I'm waiting until the end of April, and after an initial review before I also buy the device. Dexter did a great job keeping us appeased with A7. I am not sure whats going on lately with SteamTV, somehow I think they wanted to get honeycomb and couldn't so now they might be waiting again. By that time I will probably find something else of interest.
I love my A7...
I think a 10" would be too big. But agreed, they need to stop delaying on everything. This is why the customer base is so small. Solid product though.

having the same issues today. Elocity only says to do the factory reset, which takes me down to the original awful firmware. Any updates or mods I try to install won't run and the A7 gets stuck at the word "Android" without moving forward into booting up all the way.

HTC First android 4.2 update

I was wondering if anyone could comment on the fact that the HTC One SV (midrange phone that is similar specs with the First) gets the 4.2 update, and we dont? The SV got the update the 4th of November this year! and we are stuck with 4.1
anyone know anything?
This phone is seen as commercially dead, it was reduced to budget phone prices to clear existing stock and then no more were made. HTC has a bad enough track record of abandoning barely-year-old devices, they have even less reason to pay any attention to this one. I'm surprised it got the 2 updates it did.
Lots of phones are capable of running newer firmware, but manufacturers need to give people incentive to upgrade their hardware. So they give you just barely enough updates to give the illusion that they care about the longevity of their devices to get you to buy, but once newer models steal the headlines, the old models are abandoned.
But we have this great Android community, where we decide how long our devices should get updates for

HTC One - Buy it now or wait? Ubuntu touch?

Hey there
So, my HTC 8x is about to die, I guess, and I am looking for a new phone. With Ubuntu touch and all comming up, I think the HTC One is the best piece of hardware out there currently (also I love the design). The only thing I don't like about it is the price... it's still around 450€ where I live.
So, me, never paying attention to price developements, was wondering if it makes any difference if I buy it now, or wait until "The All New One" comes out.
Also can anyone give me an update on the Ubuntu touch developement progress for the One?! - I only find very contradictory comments on the Internet - some say, it's almost done, others claim it will never happen.
Or do you say the One is crap and I should go for another phone? I really want to try Ubuntu touch, so that's one of my priorities, next to "flagship-hardware"

I have the HTC One and it's great.
However, if you're looking for something at a lower price, why don't you check the Nexus 5? It's for sure the best value for money.
I think it's also better for unofficial development (even if I can't complain with the One).
As fas as I could find, it's better supported by Ubuntu Touch (but never tried).

Bro, the HTC One is an AMAZING handset and my personal favourite of 2013. The speakers and design and build quality are lightyears ahead of the Nexus 5. But, the 2014 edition of the One will be released on the 25th of March. I say that the updated One would be something you should definitely wait for.
Regarding Ubuntu Touch, Canonical isn't really doing much at the moment. I guess that once they release a phone with Ubuntu Touch, the OS will be ported to the One. There is a port for the One. It lacks connectivity though
Thanks
I know the One is an awesome piece of Hardware the Nexus 5 not so much, a friend has it, and it feels really cheap.
I will for sure not be going to buy the "The All New One" - I bet it's going to be even more awesome, but I'm not willing to spend 650€ on a new phone...
What I was actually wondering is, if anyone knows how the release of the new One will affect the One's price - I have never payed any attention on price-developenemts, and so I'm asking you And I don't mean used deviced, but new ones from Amazon or something...
(Also does anyone use The One without Google? I do use google mail, calendar and contacts, but I don't want them to know about every step I make...)

Hard brick after downgrade from 5.1.2 to 5.0.1

Does any one knows a possible solution to this?
The Amazon fire stays with black screen all the time. It is impossible to turn it on, nor recovery neither Fast Boot...
It is completily dead!!
From what I've heard, any downgrade from 5.1.1 or higher to 5.0.1 = total paperweight. Someone will probably come by and explain the mechanics of it, by my assumption is that something changed relating to the Recovery/System partitions between those revs. and thus tossing on the older software just destroys any low level communication ability the thing has.
As a rule of thumb I think you're not really supposed to be putting any older FireOS on from the latest that's been on there. I guess people may be fudging that with the last few minor revs though because the ability to root it is getting more and more impossible.
You may be able to talk someone at Amazon into giving you an exchange for a new one. Not sure the best thing to try and tell them to talk them into it. I mean I am also assuming you're out of your initial warranty period, so you'd need a creative story. Perhaps someone here will have tips on that.

I called Amazon for the warranty and they have already replace it for a new one without asking anithing. Really happy with the Amazon warranty.
Now I need to send the bricked one back to them in a month time, but I was wondering if I can bring it back to life in the meantime...

@snark.shark is 100% correct. Device is toast. Never roll back unless specifically advised it is safe to do. Forums are your friend. Read before acting. Amazon won't replace it again; one time courtesy exchange.
