anyone mind showing me a picture of your stock display and then a picture of the display after tweaking color/gamma/multiplier settings for comparison? i want to see how much better the screen can look or are we stuck with a "washed out" display because i was told the tweaks can bring vibrancy similar to AMOLED?
Coming from an s3 I'm happy with a more natural time myself

Hmmm not sure why the appear rotated but anyway. The most faded one is the stock. The one that has a bit more saturation is the iphone 5 profile and the most saturated is someone who posted values closest to S4.
Not sure if you can see the difference as took pics with my desire hehe as DSLR battery is dead and can't be bothered to charge just for that.

nice. i guess the camera quality makes it harder to tell but if i focus on a certain item (messaging icon, for example) i can see the difference and it looks like a big difference thanks
Yeah it is a huge difference but the only way to really tell is to try it out yourself. Personally when I got the N4 I was quite happy with the display coming from an HD2 but once I flashed PA (with the halfbreed calibrated kernel) I realised just how awful the stock calibration was.

take your pick, you need a custom kernel that supports it though... as I linked both faux's kernel and franco's kernel support it.
i'm unsure about stock cm kernel but i don't believe it does.
also you'd have to tweak it by hand to get it how you like it, but franco's updater app includes presets if you're lazy. i'm unsure if any of the others have presets.

i know hurts my eyes looking at it. supposed to give excellent battery life though.
no it does not, i ran a test (its in the general section) because of the "render" it slows your phone down considerably and wastes cpu cycles ergo negating any battery life you would have saved (if you had an oled screen), but since we have an lcd screen EVERY pixel is lit up regardless if its in use or not. i had 29 hours with almost no use, people on here get longer then that with a bit of use...
TL: DR slows your phone down, does make it look cool if your into that, but it doesnt save battery from what ive seen
I would love this app and I dont care if it kills my battery. The green is nice for using screen at night. Better then white screen at night. So do we have a answer where can we get it? Running droidX.
If you are using CM6, it is in Settings > Cyan Settings > Render effect.
You can also add a render fx widget to your home screen. Add it like any other widget.

You're right. The whole idea of showing only one color exploits the technology of OLED and its ability to only light up pixels on demand. LCD works by having the entire backlight always on, with polarizers selectively attenuating the light appropriately for each pixel. That's why LCD cannot achieve true black like OLED, and that's why OLED contrast ratio tests destroy LCD.
Since our Hero has the latter technology, this has absolutely no positive effects for us. Don't use it unless you like less colors.
So I have torn apart most of cyanogenmod's roms and settings trying to find this. So if anyone has it please upload that would be awesome

There was often a request for Trinity with UV instead of OC, no OC at all, well, here it is. 1100MHz of undervolted almost stock battery saving goodness.
This 2.3.4 Kernel is for CM7, modaco and stock roms will be updated later
BLN (Backlight notification) (Big Thanks Neldar! buy his app for blinking notification)
Based on 2.3.4 Gingerbread source.
Upgraded 2.6.35.13 base
At almost stock 1.1GHz with decent amount of UV
Trinity bootanimation by @rascarlo
TUN (Tunneling/VPN support)
CIFS (Samba support)
EXT4 mount fix (CM now picked this up for /data already)
Voodoo Sound v8 (cm7) (Thanks supercurio)
Voodoo Color (Thanks supercurio)
Flash issues fixed
USB fixed
A little note on blinking with BLN, it will use more power, static lights as notification you wouldn't have to worry about if you are worried about your battery, your 100 extra apps use way more than BLN.
Thread will be closed, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036996 is going to be the main one.
maybe I'll need this later

Hello all!
I've picked my Nexus 7 today from CPW, even though I knew of the existing screen issues. Before buying it I had the time to have a quick look at it, just to make sure hardware wise was fine. Well yes, it was fine, but the colors are not calibrated. I know it's not a new thing, but at least it's not a hardware problem (or at least I hope it's not! ).
I was wondering if any of the apps/mods available in the forum/play store can actually help with the colours of the screen? I know a few years back Nexus One had issues with colour calibration and Nook as well, and there were a few mods developed which helped with the problem.
I'm happy with my nexus and I don't really want to return it, as the new one might have excellent colours but other issues would be present.
Would appreciate some suggestions or we could simply start a discussion on the topic and what could be done about calibrating the colours.
p.s. Apologies if this is not the right thread!
I would try trinity kernel, if u flash his kernel and buy his app u can do what u want to the colors. Its still alpha tho. Im using it on my gnex and its awesome.

Screen Adjuster helps a little, but doesn't do anything about the poor gamma. And unfortunately it makes the UI a little laggy. So probably not worth it. I haven't seen anything else so far.

I must be seriously lucky, the screen on my Nexus 7 is brilliant. I have the Evo LTE, and I'm accustomed to nice screens. I get tons of compliments every day by people looking at my tablet and saying how crisp the colors and text are. I'm usually the one with the issues, but the sun shines on a dogs ass every now and then.
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it now and i could actually achieve satisfying results but as u said the performance is seriously affected! At least this proves the colours can be fixed with software. I hope Google comes up with a fix of some sort !

I shined a light on my dog's ass and I saw no improvement in color response. What other steps did you take?
The gamma on mine is way off (down around 1.2 at 48% for me), but as I posted before the colour temp (on mine at least) seems excellent. Swings and roundabout I suppose. Unfortunately Android doesn't have colour management baked into the OS (neither does iOS) so there's no really practical solution at present. If you want proper calibration on a tablet sometime soon I guess the only option would be to get one of the x86 Win8 tablets at the end of the year.

I think CM ROMs usually offer calibration in the display menu? I think the upcoming CM10 will have it
My cellphone is more vibrant
But it has an amoled display. I usually run the Nexus at 25%, to save battery and because I find it too bright ( indoors anyway) to keep looking at it when it,s at 75 - 100%. If they do send a OTA fix, I might have to drop it down to 10%
Here's a screen shot at 25%. I don't know if a screen shot is accurate to show my screen brightness, but I'm good with the brightness and color.

AFAIK it wasnt possible on the One X since there wasnt any libs for that effect out for the Tegra 3 platform. With the One it should be more easy since it uses the same GPU as the Nexus 4 does, plus Qualcomm Chipset. I am no expert but in general, from my understanding, it should be alot easier to get AOSP and Nexus 4 features on the One than on the One X. I already checked services.jar the lines missing can be added..

It's not a big thing, it's personal taste and i think it looks cool, if i can get it then i'd like it, you've told us your opinion and your entitled to that, in all fairness why are you posting here? I'm asking people if it can be done or if it will be done. I didn't ask your opinion on whether it's any good or even if it's a big deal.

Ahh it's cool man, appreciate you trying.
AOSP has it working just fine so maybe when it's a bit more stable i can use that as a dd, it's not the end of the world i was just curious, and damn HTC for making it difficult, no idea what they've gained from that. Or the BT stack not working with BT peripherals, can't see the logic in it.

crt in AOSP are built from source, not an easy port , as smali are different..

Before the One hit the market there were plenty of people posting "no crt, not buying" which was why I felt the need to find a vid of it.
When I saw what they were crying about I quickly decided that we were well rid of them. Especially as the majority of them probably weren't old enough to have ever SEEN a CRT with that pronounced an effect.

Yea i understand that, but maybe with what you've said about the boot img being edited or modded then it could be possible in the future, i think time will tell but i'm not holding much hope.
Thanks for your insight m8
So I just got the point 3 update on Viper ROM the capacitive buttons haven't caused any trouble as of yet and everything else appears to be working pretty smooth I like the new um power button thing on the swipe down menu and it seems to still run about the same speed pretty snappy using lighting launcher and screen filter to save battery it does charge really slow but you gotta give them credit this is really there second phone with a nice size battery and I bet you the next release will have even better power management

Glad you like it. However, Screen filter just tints the screen, it won't save you battery. I use it in the movies. More power management is coming, I have something up my sleeve

Go to the main AFH download page, click the link, wait the 5-10 seconds, and it will generate other mirrors on the right side of the page for you to download from. There is also an alternate download link that's hosted on goo.im
I want to give thanks to -viperboy- first and foremost for always putting out a quality ROM in a timely fashion. I've been using your ROM's since I had my Evo 4g Lte and loved your work so naturally I came back :good:. I just had a quick question regarding kernels, the stock one from what I've noticed battery wise its actually pretty good but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any other kernels that are noticeably better battery wise?

I come from the line of thinking that if my screen is darker then it's probably not using as much power, granted that difference may be minimal.
Is there anyway we can modify the layout of the pull-down device settings like the wifi tether icon doesn't seem to work on the Sprint version unless you have a specific data plan so I'd like to either remove it or swap it out with the application that I run for tether

Wait... You use it at movies? Are you saying you are one of those people who can't put their phone down for 2 measly hours to watch a damn movie? That you whip your phone out in the theater because 'eff the others around you who paid money to see the movie and not what you are doing on Facebook??
You're seriously one of those guys?? I YELL AT YOU PEOPLE!!

Well, your line of thinking is incorrect. Imagine your phone is on full brightness and you put a piece of tint on the front of the screen. It will appear to be darker right? But in reality, it's just not projecting the light because you have a filter over it. Screen filter is exactly the same thing. There is no battery savings to be had with it.
Toggles will be edited for next release to fix/remove those that don't work or are useless. A

Lol, no I try not to but I do it during the previews and try to keep the brightness down for those that care about the previews lol But I have it on such a dark setting with screen filter you'd never notice it. It's usually responding to xda stuff! Lol
