Ok.. If it is me, i apologize..
But my htc one takes awesome photos outside in natural sunlight... Dope!.. However... Inside pics in regular room lighting is terrible...really terrible.. Terrible to the point that i am praying it is a known issue! I love this phone, and do not want to return it within my 14 days at tmobile, but if there is no workaround or known update for the camera coming soon i might have to...
Is 4.2.2 suppose to fix this? Samples are coming...
Low light photography is what the one is actually renowned for

Hi All
This may be a noob question, but ive noticed this with my camera. As you can see on image 1010, its focus is on the sky, but then if i move it a few degrees down (1011) its focus is on the man across from me. These images have done this without me touching to focus or anything.
Is there a way i can get my camera to take a decent shot of both the sky and whatever is infront of me? without having to compromise a certain part of the image.
I took a lot of photos twice today in order to get both parts of the photo in good focus.
Im using:
Stock camera app
Project X v4
There is no Q+A sectin, so ive posted this here, it can be deleted once ive figured out this little annoyance.
Any information regarding this, work arounds, or why it does it would be great. Also, is this the case on all roms?

i think its just autofocus that does it. you will realise once you move the phone it comes up with the focus square
But surely there's a way to make it so it doesn't block out a section of the image just because it feels like it ?

Pretty sire it can't focus on two things at once
The focus/lighting are related, so if you've focused on the man, the lighting will adjust so you can see the man and not the sky

I've got this phone on on order from 3 to replace my One X. A bit gutted about the bootloader situation but there you go...
I've tried the XZ for at least 15 minutes in the 3 store and I'm more than happy with the screen/viewing angles, performance, UI etc. and I feel reassured from another thread in XDA that the battery will be at least no worse than my one x.
The unanswered question for me is the camera.
I'd hugely appreciate it if some of you guys who already have it would be prepared to share their thoughts.
The reviews are mixed to say the least.
Thanks in advance guys and gals!!

Just real world use. I've read all of the reviews and they seem to range from dreadful to good. I'm looking for decent photos but I'm not really fussy so I was hoping that the people who already have the phone could confirm if they were happy or not.

i've read all the reviews in the first 3 or 4 pages on google...
no one puts the camera in "cons" section, the worse one sais that is aligned to last year flagships, and that is not "entusiastic", others say it's very good, others excellent...
no one says dreadful or crap about it
i would see at gsmarena pics, those are made in same conditions on all phones, so it's a valid measurement system, others are just "ambient dependant" and "photographer" dependant...
Thanks for the reply, I was really looking for feedback from anyone who actually had the phone and a few days experience if possible.
hey. i got my phone till yesterday and did a few shots here and there. i cant really compare to anything spec related, since my last phone was a SGS2,
and i am by no means a camera enthusiast.
what can i say, i like the quality^^ the videos look snappy, the pictures too, so theres that. not really helpfull at all, but im surely not disappointed if this means anything to you.
NOT sent from my Xperia Z - but felt like bragging
edit: one function i really like is the automatic mode detection, puts on macro if you need it and so on. the panorama mode is nice and fast and the focus is accurate and fast too.

Thanks Mate, that's exactly what I was after :good:
Go to Youtube and find this video: Xperia Z Vs iPhone 5 - SHOOTOUT - Which is Best?
Hope it can help you.
I just purchased my new HTC one and I love it, it's a remarkable phone. However I have found something that seems rather odd. When using the front facing camera, if you are not centered in the field of view, you are distorted and stretched out. This could be an effect of the wide angle lens, but I am not sure. I just want to be sure I do not have a defective unit and should try to return it. I have attached two pictures, one with myself in the center of the shot, and the other with myself in the bottom of the shot showing the distortion I am talking about.
Thanks for your help!

Brave man. Putting pictures of yourself on the internet (even in the name of science). Pretty soon there's going to be the evanogrady meme generator.
Anyway mine does the exact same thing. I'm just not as secure as you to prove it with pictures.

Mine does the same thing, seems like the nature of wide-angle lenses. You have to get it as far away from you as possible and aim it dead center...
LOL, I was considering not posting the pictures, but felt like it was necessary to properly explain my point haha.
& I'm glad it's not just my unit doing this, I was watching videos of the front facing camera online and none of them had the level of distortion that my camera is showing!
Maybe a test image of a square grid would be useful

Good idea! This is the best I could do, a little awkward trying to take the shot with the front!

Hey guys, I have problem with photos at night,or dark conditions. They all are blurry. I mean, I have Galaxy S4 ,S3 ,Note 2 and when is night, tap on the screen means, light on camera turn on and object at dark is focused. While HTC One cant do it. Tap on the screen at dark does nothing and photo is blurry. Is there any solution how can I do perfect photos like Galaxy series? I also tried Camera FX ,but its the same. Still cant focus with light
Maybe is user error. Simple as just not doing it right. If not we need more info than that... Like come on how can I help you when all you say is "I'm a newbz and mah camera won't focus"?
Give me rom, kernel, camera app settings and maybe someone would be nice enough to help you.

All stock, not rooted.
Lol, this is not only my problem, but every user of HTC One get this problem. Im asking for solution. Just try that. Try taking picture at night, when on One is only black screen. How can U make a photo, which is not blurry? Tapping on the screen to focus is useless, cause it cant focus.. Its weird and sad. If I could do same as on the Galaxy, tap on the screen uses light and that means it will focus on objects at night, so U have great picture. But One, which has better picture at night cause of ultrapixles, cant do that?
Enough to know whats the problem?

Stock 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 because there has been quite a few updates that increases camera performance. Maybe some pictures could help.
If you are properly focusing on something after pressing your finger on the screen it should say "AE and AF locked".

Yeah,if I tap on the screen,it says ae and af locked. But it doesnt solve the problem. Try it. U will have blurry photo too. It just cant focus at night
So, I found on the internet same issue..Everybody got this problem, I think all HTC devices, but lot of people dont know about it..There was no software update which repair this..One guy got third part app, which using light-torch ,so it can focus in dark too..But he said its bit laggy, not as HTC's camera app:-/ He also tried different ROMs, nothing works..Shame on HTC..Dont understand why they cant do it like Samsung..
me too am having the same problem. am using vipers 5.2.1 and night pictures are just bad even with the powerful dual flash on the sensation
Hey guys, anyone pre-ordered the Z1s? When will you get it? Will you be able to do a port the camera? If not can you provide the devs with the flashable file from your phone?
Can't wait for someone to port this camera app as it seems umbelivably good!

My long-anticipated Z1s arrived yesterday and I'm still learning where the various camera menus and functions are. My previous phone was an HTC Sensation which has a camera that set a pretty high bar. I breed seahorses, so my use case is a really demanding one!! Low light through glass and water shots of microscopic moving targets (brine shrimp and seahorse fry) pre-dawn courtship rituals... I have really high hopes for this phone!! The motion tracking does surprisingly well, and compared to the HTC, the images are slightly softer, less gritty/noisy, but do seem to lack some of the sharpness and contrast of the Sensation (which was all or nothing when it came to autofocus). Still need to master the settings and preferences and adjust lighting, and get up the courage to actually dunk it INTO the tank!!
I'm not the one to ask about porting the app, but I'd be happy to answer questions about it and experiment for anyone who may be on the fence about buying one.
This sample is from a shot taken through glass.
An apk has been posted in the apps section
