Hey guys,
I had a problem with my pc, so I wasnt following the forums for a while. Here's my question :
I have a message in my notification bar saying New system update available 10.1.1.A.1.253,its been there for weeks. I remember seeing here that updating to 253 will remove root n all that. So I want to know, wether updating via my phone will remove my root?? hope the question is clear enough.

I followed exact to your instructions, still the update did not work.
Update failed to install.
I made sure I was on .352
Rooted with Vroot and then installed Dualrecovery (https://mega.co.nz/#!zNBjCLgK!RloqhT1DzO4mYQgmbDXsZycDjHlFjTL-eSonTz4VBX4)
Flashed (in Recovery) pre-rooted 257 fw (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2440408) + BusyBox/SU (http://d-h.st/M10)
Flashed (in Flashtool) kernel/baseband from 257 stock tft (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469191)
Restarted phone and everything have been working flawlessly since. Reinstalled recovery.

Sorry for wasting you time man. I know it is very frustrating not to get your device rooted. But it worked for me. I'll just try to do this again and let you know. Hope I'll not loose my root (fingers crossed).

Yeah it works great, I have tried it too but it comes with a cost of loosing some stock apps, installed apps and data. Wouldn't it be great if we can just do the OTA update without having to loose anything and also keep root?
Thanks for trying again, I'm starting to think that it's my phone or region's problem. I tried a lot of different methods but none worked.
Sad case for me...

Hmm, it turns out to be like this.
Once you are on 14.1.G.1.534,
1. Root it with VROOT, Install Super Su Pro, update binaries and enable survival mode*.
2. Reboot and unroot using VROOT and reroot then update Super Su binaries.
3. Repeat Step 2 twice.
4. Now try to do the OTA update.
Let please let me know if this didn't work. Thanks and good luck.
Save this attachment in your sd card in a folder with name romsu.

Hey if you really think that wrong place is the reason for sure, then try to connect to net via hotspot sheild vpn or some vpn you prefer and then download the OTA update, I know I'm just being stupid but just give it a try. To me it makes sense to some extent.

Mate...
Really... Why don't you read and check XDA first.
First you opened a thread with bunch of questions that are already answered all over the Z1 threads.
And now you open thread for something we wrote days ago?!
HERE IT IS
It's cool to help guys but you shouldn't double threads.

Anyone know or got a working root method for this device?
I have tried RootDashi and KingoRoot (the latest) and the root failed.
Is there any other working method, like downgrade or deodexed?

Until now, even if you unlock bootloader and flash su with a recovery isn't working.
Remount /system isn't working i'm getting permission denied. I asked some devs for help, I'm expecting an update on that in the next days.

Possible solution to root
I have a crazy idea about rooting this new 290 firmware.
And please guys, correct me if it's a known fact that this is wrong.
1.- Don't unlock bootloader.
2.- Flash ONLY baseband and kernel for 534.
3.- root with kingo or whatever worked for us back then.
4.- reflash 290 baseband and kernel.
We used to do something like this when the HTC One X had problems to root new firmwares, and it worked.
Think this might be an option?
I can try it, but only after next Monday. See, I'm traveling out of the country tomorrow, and wouldn't want to be left without my Z1 for the trip.
Any tips?

Could work (no need to flash baseband though, as it's only temporary). But we're back to the problem with remounting / etc, this is due to the new SELinux policies introduced in 4.3.
Think its the first time since X10 that i really missed root from a major update
Damn i cant wait... been trying alot of stuff with no success.. Cant even reroll to .518 - root then CWM and OTA to .257... So im stuck with the latest version with no root
I hope the Devs would give a quick solution to go around the 4.3 version..

Im not gonna unlock the device as of yet, perhaps when 4.4 comes and i feel alot safer to do it
I thought Android was supposed to be easy to root. Sony are really playing hardball with this, we shouldn't have to find bugs and loopholes to Root our devices anymore, else this is no better than Apple or Windows Phones :/
Hi everybody,
just updated to Android 4.3 on my Z1 and realised that the Sony click sounds seems to have changed?
Has anyone experienced the same problem?
I really liked the "Sony" click sound any idea how to get it back?
Thanks in advance for your replies
Yes, the click on 4.3 is different and many do not like it. The only one way to get that click back is to root your phone and replace with the old one from 4.2. The problem is you did not saved the wave file from 4.2 so somebody should post it for you and then you should replace it on your phone or you downgrade, root your phone, backup all what you need and update again. Anyway if you want root your .290 the only way is to downgrade with NUT method so you will do 2 things in 1.

Lol.. Glad u know that some firmware is capable of getting root on lb
I used to go with the stuff like messing with post boot scripts _ enabling, editing them on my own...and some other developmental stuff... Theoretically if I get a bootloop.. I need to flash the firmware again instead of getting it solved... And if I need an upgrade It will be hell of a hecky thing ''''''
I know about backingup ta partition(Drm) bla bla things which is unique to every device......yes lollipop sucks but not anymore with xposed!! Thanks
Can I know about the device performance I mean Heat issues!!!

Hey will you please link me to the post where prasad mentioned that he achieved root without loosing drm keys?
