Some Apps going into tablet mode - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I'm using ARHD 10.3. When I use the app ultimate guitar it zooms out so much that it looks like the app recognizes this phone as a tablet. It also happens with a few other apps.I've attached a screenshot. Anyone else experiencing this.

1. Why do you open a thread for this? Next time ask in the arhd thread.
2. I dont have this issue. Did you mess with the screen density?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium

Are you sure this is ARHD specific?
If not my guess is the app is written in something like jQuery mobile (not native) and it sets layout depending on resolution rather than device-width and I'd report a bug.

I don't think its ARHD specific. World of Goo, Angry Birds, and Connectbot all load in what appears tablet mode on my One, Connectbot in particular comes in with text about two millimeters high. It looks like the text is coming in at a set pixel height and because of the One's pixel density the text is too small to be readable.

Nexus 7 For The Elderly

An elderly relative of mine shall be getting herself a Nexus 7 tomorrow, which she plans to use mainly for e-Reading plus a bit of media usage in the form of BBC iPlayer. I was looking for an easy-to-use interface for her. Any launcher recommendations or simple customisations to make it just a little bit easier? I am sure she could use it as is, but making it easier so I don't have to teach her so much will be good.
How elderly? Talk back might be nifty. I tried it once, it was annoying as hell though

Instructions are poor. You get a quick startup guide on paper and then have to open the book section to read the user manual. I find it harder to learn about a system when I an constantly flipping from the manual to a page to try out what I was reading.

I was more just on about launchers which would allow her to have a nice, clean UI that isn't too cluttered.
Anyone know of such a launcher?

No problem. The only launcher that might suit your needs would be a heavily customized apex launcher.

Thanks. I can install Apex on my Galaxy Note, so I'll fiddle around and see what I can do on it.
Just empty the desktop from every single icon . Than..
1.on home screen Add icons that this person will use the most e.g BBC iPlayer (not sure bits going to work without flash), chrome, play store and a nice looking clock widget or something
2. Set each other screen with categories e.g one for books where you place the appropriate widgets and icons . One for videos and one for whatever else like notes calendar and other productivity ....
3. Do that person a favour and download some games .. yes games . You'd be surprised how often older people like to play ... ideal games would be mahjong, card games , also things like Bejeweled ,Zuma, scrabble type games
Stock android launcher is good enough trust me you just have to know how to organise it. Also wait for chameleon that might change things

Camera window shrinked

Wired thing happened this morning, my camera capture window shrinked from the normal full window to a much smaller one, see attached picture.
I have no idea what happened and restarting the phone fixed the problem. Only thing I have done before finding that was setting up an exchange email account and the lock password...
Seems a bug?
PS: camera setting is default everywhere

It did not help, actually it was set like that, crop->wide when I noticed the shrinked window. I tried to set that to different value, regular and square, both of them made the window even smaller.
Anyway, a reboot fixed the problem, I am just curious what exactly happned...

Unable to update Facebook app?

I may have run into a weird bug. I cannot access Facebook in the playstore, and when I look at the version that came preinstalled on the First, it's version 3.0, whereas on my HTC, it's running 3.2.
Anyone else running into this?
It isn't a huge concern, as I'm giving this phone to my grandmother who doesn't even use facebook, but, I just find this endlessly odd.
That shouldn't happen. Have you tried visiting the "my apps" section of the play store and try the Facebook app that (should) show up there?

It doesn't show up anywhere. Not in the my apps section, and not when I search for it in the play store. Even on the desktop, the web version of the play store says its incompatible. It's a bit weird.
I'm getting the same thing. I just took a screenshot.

Hmm, Maybe this SKU of the first has mistakenly been blackballed from receiving facebook updates in the play store? If anyone has any other colors, I'd like to know if they are experiencing the same problem.
Same issue. Blue version.

same issue here white color ... even though it has nothing to do with color lol its something stupid with framework and the way facebook integrated everything

I have a black HTC First and was able to update Facebook to 3.2.1. However, this update was supposed to add the much need Favorites Bar (Dock) to the Home launcher. It is not working for me.
Anyone else seeing this?

MMS Compression

My wife and I are new One owners and I just noticed that when we send pictures to each other, the resolution gets knocked down to 360x640 and I am unable to zoom in. The original size is 2680x1520 so this is a huge drop. The issue is present when viewing the picture from the text and if it is saved to the gallery. Max picture size is set to 2m in settings.
Anyone else have this issue? Workarounds? I don't really want a 3rd party app.
I had an evo for 2 years and it never had this issue. Maybe because it was rooted? I'm on Sprint, not sure if that matters.

Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
While in Messaging app, go to Settings>MMS and make sure Maximum Message Size is set to the highest setting (1M).
It's been set to 2m since the beginning. Any other ideas?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
No, I stated this the first week I had the phone and no one else seemed to think it was an issue. I'll post the link to the threads and also to someone else that was having the problem.
Hopefully with it spreading more we can get it fixed.
Incoming MMS are at a lower resolution then other peoples phones?
For those of you with a T-Mobile HTC One, I would like some help with a test
Is no one else besides me noticing the small MMS pictures?!
Thanks for the links. There has to be a way to change the compression settings. What about root and custom rom?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
This really sucks. There's no reason my pictures should be automatically shrunk down to 32kb when I have it set to 2mb max.
Has anyone been able to send decent resolution mms pictures with the stock messaging program?
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I'm really hoping that when we get the 4.2.2 update it will include a fix for it
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I noticed this for the first time last night and I couldn't believe it.
I tried a few things to fix it and couldn't believe that I wasn't able to resolve it.
I am astonished that this is a legitimate "problem" or downfall.
Crazy!!
Yup. Having a picture reduced to 32kb and ~320x600 when you have the max mms size set to 2mb is absurd. My old Evo 4G didn't do this.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
This is seriously terrible
This phone is amazing, but the fact I can't send MMS without it getting compressed to no hell is starting to become a dealbreaker. No, I don't want to use GoSMS, I hate the cluttered interface and I like the simplicity of the stock app. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I tried to modify my own MMS.apk on the HTC One X+ but had no luck. Now I see the HTC One has the same issue. What gives?????????
I still haven't found a fix yet. Any word on a workaround for rooted devices? Maybe the 4.2.2 update?

I haven't found one either, I'm hoping for one on the update. I tried the Google edition rom. My wifes Nexus 4 gets the pics w/ no compression so I was hoping the GE would fix it

[HOW TO] Enable Navigation/Softkey bar

Hey yall. After trying many methods of enable the soft keys which i really like my self, i finaly found out whats messing it up.
in /system in build.prop there is a bit of code which looks like that in the screenshot. my problem was i kept adding code when i simply needed to change the existing code to 0 instead of 1. as shown in the screenshot
also as you can see they work in the xda app. but the buttons dont work in any other app.
anyone know why? i tried changing resolution in build prop and nothing. so i need some help.
So again. My problem is that i cant get the nav bar to work all the time.
Okay um. Attempted to change DPI in build prop. It did work and change DPI but softkeys still only work on the xda app.
I'm thinking maybe disabling hw capatative buttons will fix the problem.
Sent from my HTC first using xda app-developers app
Attempted using gravity box with xposed installer but nothing that way.
Sent from my HTC first using xda app-developers app
Attempted to turn off hw buttons. That didnt work either
Sent from my HTC first using xda app-developers app
Attempted to add a persist code to the soft key
Persist.qemu.he.mainkeys=0
That didn't help

after doing some research, all i figured out was that i would have to decompile and modify the framework-res.apk...
even though i have experience with making apps, i get so lost in google's apps since they arent compiled with classes, its all pure xml and all of it doesnt make sense, so if anyone could, please, figure out what to do in the framework res, to make the nav bar work better, id be very grateful
you can find it at /system/framework
thanks
Well nice find so far! I really like the idea of on screen soft keys but what other use would it have that we can't get from the 3 hardware one's we've got? Does the screen feel crowded, because I imagine that with the thickness of them it'd be pretty cramped

Well you could give it a go and see what its like when running the xda app. Unless it works normal.
Um..screen isn't really crowded. Its about two status bars thick. Uses? Um...I know it has a recent app button. And if you're using a keyboard it will give you the option to minimize it. Other than that its just a nexus feel. And once you enable it you can use apps or xposed installer to have them minimized and you can toggle them like a status bar when ever you need it.

I never learned the difference but I guess. I never flashed any other ROM. I'm still on the one the phone shipped with.

Well an odexed ROM basically prevents any modifications to the firmware or any major graphic ui change but in turn opens apps faster so I'm guessing that's the problem
That could be the problem.
Stock ROM works really well on my device so I'm not changing it till we get cm.
But I'm just wondering why it won't let the nav bar be persistent, even though I addad a persist command to it. And only works on the xda app
Sent from my HTC first using xda app-developers app
I think I figured out the problem. The framework-res.apk manages the overall layout of android, I just need to figure out which if the 600 xml files does that and give the nav bar a bottom margin.

Major find or not I've found out that the app also works with wordrefernce.com it's an old app. I found out today in French class lol but for some reason the on screen soft keys don't work with the premium xda app. Also I should say that there seems to be a 1 second lag when pressing the on screen keys. Unlike the hardware ones that are instant. I've also got lag everywhere else in the phone.. Don't know if this is a side effect

I've managed to freeze my phone many times just going through the app drawer so...its not a side effect.
I actually get around 700ms worth of lag using hard keys so I don't feel a difference. But yeah for some reason the only work on some apps...
Personal opinion. If you want a nexus feel then you would use it. But its gonna tale a while till I figure out what's wrong. I'm still working with framework-res.apk at the moment

Busy box.

see, i sold my broke first and when i was doing a factory reset and testing to make sure none of my info was present, the nav keys became persistent
So to make the be active 24/7 you MUST DO a factory reset....or maybe just a dalvik wipe, but i did a full reset and they worked fine.
you need to write script (i don't the commands) to enable it after qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Auto Hide Soft Keys 's Spoof Soft Keys option can enable it via hack, so there is a way to activate it on boot when it doesn't show
