[Q] O.K. to flash TWRP over CWM? - Nook HD, HD+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed CM 10.1 and CWM on my HD+. Can I flash TWRP over (replacing) CWM? Or do I need to start over again?

If you meant on emmc, you can flash over it. But be warned, backup and restore does not work on emmc TWRP.

Seriously?
Does going in the other direction work the same? Clockwork flashed over TWRP?

Thanks. It doesn't seem like there's any reason to flash TWRP, then.

Can you flash a recovery within a recovery?
Ex: I have CWM (v. 6.0.2.8) currently and if I flash the TWRP zip file, will it simply overwrite the CWM when it reboots? Is that all there is to it?

[Q] Noob Question

Hi, I know this is probably a real noobie question, but I have only just recently flashed CM9 and used it for a few days. Now I have a few apps that I have been using a lot, but I would like to move to nightlys. Would I have to use VRWipe or something similar to wipe out the current build I have, or can I flash Nightlies right over my current build without wiping anything? What is the best way to go rom CM9, to CM9 Nightly?

You should however get into the habit of using a backup software. Titanium backup works real well.

WiFi not working after flashing custom ROM

Hey guys, I just installed nik's new project x rebirth 3.6 because it looked amazing!
So I wiped data
Wiped cache
I flashed the ROM
And then I Rebooted
I went through the setup everything was fine just that the slider for WiFi was greyed out and it says and is stuck on "turning on..."
I waited really long to see what would happen but no success
All I see it error
I kept trying and trying but no luck
I did everything from wiping data and cache
I reinstalled the ROM
And I flashed and ICS kernel I had lying around on my sdcard but yet no success.
BTW I did not flash a kernel when I flashed the ROM
I flashed an ICS kernel after wiping the data and cache many times thinking it would work
Someone please help! Thanks

WiFi should work. It might be a recovery related problem. What recovery are you currently using?

Use 4EXT or ClockworkMod v5.0.2.0. V6 is only a port and therefore, there can be some bugs. I know that 4EXT and CWM 5.0.2.0 work. 4EXT is kind of like a modified CWM with extra features here and there. Its also officially supported.
I believe it is kernel related..

Kangaroo Kernel's WiFi works. That is a fact. If it doesn't work, then it might be recovery related where the recovery might not be flashing some modules correctly and whatnot. I used to have the same problem except with dla5244's port of TWRP. That is why I suggested OP use Official ClockworkMod or 4EXT.
Thank you guys so much
It was actually the the recovery
I flashed Clockwordmod v5 and it worked like a charm

at least none that I'm aware of.
4EXT recovery has an app and when you download the file, it will automatically flash for you.

No, you need to put the phone in FASTBOOT USB mode and use the command that was posted.
FASTBOOT is different than recovery mode.

No download ROM manager or 4EXT Recovery Updater (the latter may require a bit more searching).
As i've never really used ROM manager (nor would i ever recommend CWM over 4EXT), I can't really help you there.
For 4EXT Recovery Updater, you will need to wait a bit for downloads and stuff (roughly 5 minutes). After click install/update. Choose touch or normal (i use touch). Select version. It will download and then after downloads finish, it will flash the recovery for you.
Guys I am well aware of Rom manager and 4ext app control ;D

And I am asking if there is a way easier than the command prompt way

Yes because it gets downloaded to the wrong folder. Do not have it install it automatically. Boot to recovery and look in internal memory 0/cyandelta.

You need to download the file, then boot to recovery, install zip from internal memory and look in /0/cyandelta and flash it.

It is exactly like cyandelta does it. It takes the Delta file and makes a whole new rom in that location. So when it flashes, it is just like you downloaded a complete ROM. It is a dirty flash so all your apps and settings remain.
But you have to complete everything in the cyandelta menu except the last step which is booting to recovery and flashing the newly updated ROM zip. You do that manually.

[Q] Nook HD - Can't get out of CWM recovery

My Nook HD will only boot to CWM recovery.
A bit of history...
Was happily running CWM 10.2 but decided to upgrade to CWM 11. I couldn't get this to work (status 7 installation aborted). I reinstalled 10.2 and this worked fine. I then stupidly followed some instructions for installing CWM 11 when I was tired and didn't spot they were for the Galaxy Tab 2 and since then my Nook HD just boots into CWM recovery.
I'm pretty sure I have killed my device (I gave up trying to fix it a couple of months ago) but before I throw it in the bin I thought someone on here may have some bright ideas for rescuing it.
Thanks in advance for any advice
Try going to my HD/HD+ CWM thread and flash a plain stock zip from item 6.
What thread and advice did you follow?

I tried flashing a plain stock zip from item 6, it didn't change anything.
Thread was on the cyanogenmod forum. I don't appear to be able to post a link so this is the bit I stupidly followed...
Hello!
The "error 7" message was in my case coused by an old version of CWM.
There is already a topic about it under Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 p5110.
This is what you could try to do:
- download the newest version of CWM at this link : **link deleted as forum won't let me post links but it was CWM for a Galaxy Tab2 10.1**
- install this package and reboot
- note : this is not the touch version of CWM so you have to use the power and volume buttons to use this type of CWM
- download the newest CM 11 and put it on your EXTERNAL SD CARD
- download if you use it the newest GAPPS for KK to your EXTERNAL SD CARD
- go into recovery mode
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik cache
- install CM 11
- install the GAPPS if you use it
- reboot
This solved my "error 7" problem and also for some others with this error.
Thanks for looking.
So what did you do? Install the CWM from that thread?

Then you may have bricked it. Did it say it installed correctly?
The problem is the Galaxy Tab 2 uses a different partition for recovery than the Nook HD. Whoever made that zip must have failed to put a safety assert statement in it to prevent users from trying to flash it to the wrong device.
I will try to find the thread to see if the zip was bad and where it tried to install it on your nook. Do you have any more clues for me to the link?

Ok, found the file you flashed and looked at it. It put the recovery image where your bootdata partition is supposed to be and wiped out bootdata. I made a bootdata repair zip and sent you a PM with the link. Try flashing that with your CWM. It may recover your bricked device. Let me know.

installation aborted
it says this with all the roms i tried.
i did get the same problem with my S3 until i found the fusion rom, which worked ok.

Try downloading the ROM zip directly to the nook rather than your PC. Sometimes the PC antivirus will corrupt the zip.

You did not say earlier you could only boot to recovery. You need to go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new CWM bootable SD per item 1a and flash the plain stock ROM per item 6. That will get you back to like it came out of the box and you can start over.
