[Q] Can't get into recovery after 4.2.2 update - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've updated to 4.2.2 and successfully rooted my XZ, then went on to install dual recovery, and while it boots into CMW recovery alright after first install, on subsequent reboots I can't get into either recoveries (when pressing vol up or down just after the green LED comes on). I tried to install them several times, but the result is always the same.
Any ideas what I could try?

You need to install the 2.5 beta version of the dual recovery for 4.2.2. If you already have, then I don't know what the problem is.

Thanks, I didn't spot that. BETA did it.

[Q] Safestrap 3.05 Problem - Stuck in Safe

A couple days ago I decided to load the new Safestrap Hashcode linked to. Everything went very well, and I have been running Maverick 4.5 in slot 2 as my daily driver. I was able to get back into Safestrap using the menu button. I also loaded Gummybear ICS into Slot 3, but went back to Maverick.
Yesterday I was going to go back into Safestrap and switch to the Gummybear/slot 3 rom to check it out.
I can't get back into Safestrap at all. I am stuck in the Maverick 4.5 rom.
One thing I did notice and do not understand: When I use Titanium Backup or the Reboot Widget to "Reboot into Recovery", I get a Yellow Triangle with an Exclamation Mark and the Android guy.

That's the stock Droid 3 recovery. Using a reboot recovery will lead to that, and will not allow Safestrap's bootloader to intercept the boot and activate Safestrap recovery.
I haven't tried running Safestrap 3.05 myself, since it's still not official, but I do know that you cannot reboot recovery as you describe to to get into Safestrap for any version of Safestrap.

thats the stock recovery
now. do you still get the boot menu splash page where it asks you to input the menu key or continue?
if so hit the menu many times or hit on the screen the hit menu for recovery image section, as it shoulod also work.
maybe my next question is silly or already tried, but have you tried to try it with the charger disconnected?
some times when my droid 3 is connected, the touch screen gets un responsive o registers more than input
hope this helps
I now have the same problem. I see the splash screen and it vibrates and reacts when I press the menu button, however it does not boot into safestrap v3.05.
From the JB topic it seems more people have this problem!

For those with trouble entering recovery with SS 3.05
The EASIEST and most DEPENDABLE way I've found to boot into the new SS 3.05 is;
Shutdown the phone
Slide open keyboard
Hold M and press the power button to boot the phone (still holding M, release when it boots the next step)
Immediately a menu pops up
Press Volume DOWN to highlight "BP Tools" (tap several times, be quick, if you wait too long, it'll automatically select what is highlighted)
Press Volume UP to select it.
Phone will reboot showing the M logo, then proceed into SS Recovery.

This did not work for me. It just hangs on the Motorola splash screen after choosing BP Tools. Just tried a few moments ago.
Also I haven't had my phone plugged in or charging.

Strange, I have tried it several times... worked each time... maybe try reinstalling safestrap 3.05? Back up what you can of course, stock should not be touched.

Had this problem today after creating a rom slot and flashing a new rom, this worked for me however I had to try it a few times. Once I got into recovery I wiped the rom and rom slot and ss3 is working properly now. Not sure if this was a rom issue or ss3.

When you run the OTA update to 906, it will remove the Safestrap bootstrap and will unroot as well. However, you can reroot with Motofail, then run the Safestrap app again to install recovery, and you slots *should* still be there. Perhaps making a backup of each slot before running the OTA would be smart.

i dont like the word "should"
ok i try to save the files in safetrap and try an OTA. yesterday the ota didn't run but i think i have to wait longer thar it starts the installation than the 10 minutes...
The slots are all stored on the internal storage (the mount point /sdcard) on the phone, so as long as you don't format internal storage, they should stay there.
I should note that I have never tried installing the OTA with safestrap 3.05 installed - I did it with 1.08. Actually, you may want to activate the stock slot, go into the safestrap app and uninstall recovery, and then try running the OTA. It's possible that the OTA will balk with a custom recovery installed - I don't remember, and, like I said, I never tried with Safestrap 3.05 installed.
You can also download the OTA, copy it to an external SD card, and manually run the update from stock recovery. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1643521
[edit] Sorry - that link is for an update from 890 to 906. I forgot that you were not on 890. Sorry about that...
I had almost the same problem with my phone, the diference is that mine got stuck on non safe system (Stock ROM). Initializing the phone with th Android Recovery (Turning on with the key "m" pressed down) and choosing BP Tools doesn't worked.
- Phone: Milestone 3 XT860 (Brazilian Droid 3)
- Carrier: Vivo

[Q] Bricked Thrill

A couple weeks ago, I upgraded the ClockworkMod Recovery on my Thrill. A few hours ago, I attempted booting into recovery mode. My phone is now stuck attempting to boot into recovery. It's stuck at the LG boot logo and will not progress to recovery or even into the boot animation for a normal boot. I have tried holding the VolDown+3D to manually boot into recovery, I have tried turning it off and back on, I have tried removing the battery for a few minutes, I've tried removing the battery and SIM card for several minutes and there is no change in status.
I'm using an LG Thrill on a stock GB ROM and the latest ClockworkMod Recovery, installed by latest version of ROM Manager (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en)
If any more info is needed, let me know. The computer I'm using is a Macbook Pro.

Try this. Take out the battery, while the battery is out hold down the 3d button, the volume down button and power button. "While" these 3 buttons are pressed insert the battery. You should see the lg logo flash on for a second or two than off. From this point leave the battery in and try to boot into recovery with the three buttons. (It may boot into recovery right away after you reinsert the battery)

I tried this several times to no avail. No change. The LG logo flashed on and off, but when I tried to boot back into recovery, it didn't boot into recovery. I tried doing it again, then booting normally and still no change.
You may want to try and use the lg flash tool. I had a lot of trouble with the new recovery. Had to revert to on older version.

Sorry never mind i see now u can not get it to boot. You may just have to use the lg flash tool and go back to stock gb. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540163
I had this issue one time also. Go to terminal emulator and type su. See if super user ask to grant permission. If no you may have lost your root. Try and re-root the thing with the Megatron root and reinstall cwm from ROM manger.

Finally got my phone working again. I had to borrow someone else's computer to do it, but hey, at least I have my phone back. I'd rather not reinstall CWM from ROM Manager, because it installs only the latest version which is exactly what bricked my phone to begin with.
Long story short, all's good, everything works. Thanks.

Recovery wont boot

Hey everyone, I installed recovery on my phone and it worked fine but after doing so I tried to install a ROM. This ended up with my phone being bricked and so I flashed the original FTF file and now it works fine again. I rooted the phone after this and installed recovery and it said it installed properly with no errors. I then tried to boot my phone in to recovery by pressing either volume key when the green led shows up with the sony splash screen but nothing happens. I've tried it loads of times using both up and down volume keys but it does not go to recovery anymore. Any help?

sorry but what recovery are you using
TWRP/CWM I've tried both of them neither of them boot up the phone just boots up as normal even if I press the volume keys. I've installed the CWM for locked bootloader now though and it still wont work, that being the case my phone is a locked bootloader.
what device are you using and which recovery?
i rmb ZL has issues with CWM recovery like this.
Z, havent encounter any yet.
If you cant boot into recovery then try installing it again.

have you got superuser/super su installed and working ? when flashing recovery supersu asks for ADB approval
Well it would be an Xperia Z being in this category of the forum? But Ive tried re-installing and removing completely and installing again. Each time it seems to install correctly but even if the green led comes on at start up it wont boot in to the recovery mode
I even tried using XZRecovery to install it on the phone itself but that didnt let me boot in either

Okay try installing this one dont know of anyone which this hasnt work for, before go into supersu and look at app's, has ADB got a green or red hash
I tried that one before and it didn't work. Just checked my superuser and it seems it doesn't even have ADB listed, just some rooted apps I've used. I tried setting it to always allow in preferences but that didn't change anything.

do this
1-flash "another" ftf file
2-repair it with sony update service
3-go to settings > backup and reset > factory data reset (internal wipe)
4-root
5-install CWM
do not try to restore your previous rom or whatever. especially when youre jumping from one rom to another.
Start fresh.
This will probably work but I used the unbranded ftf file on a clean install so im not sure how much differentit'll be

I tried to do this but when I connect my phone to a pc nothing comes up, no pop-up, nothing on the phone, it doesnt even charge. It does charge however when I put it in a plug socket.. I think this could have something to do with it in the first place, my problem still isnt resolved what else can I do?
Are you stuck at step 1?
Try the newest flashtool (I think people are having issues with it, but worth a try) or the v4 flashtool.
And try another ftf file, don't use the same one that you used, or trying to use.

xt1060 which recovery 5.1 none work.

ok i just upgraded my 1060 to 5.1 when I went install twrp 2.8.1.0 whit fmastboot it said it was successful. but i cannot reboot into recovery.
it just shows a blue battery charging
then newest version did not dercrypt my phone. what should I be using for lolipop
my goal is to get exposed back on
i tried the following both fastboot and mfastboot.
twrp2.8.1.0-ghost
twrp2.8.6.0-ghost
twrp2.8.7.0-ghost
CWM6.0.3.6
the phone is not bricked, but I cannot get into a recovery. so I cant flash su.
it just shows a blue battery charging
they have not posted a factory image yet and I cant extract a recovery.img form the 2 ota zips.
do I need to go back to kk usng the factory image and start over
I'm curious about this too as I'm looking to re-root and install xposed now that I've upgraded. Motorola hasn't posted the stock images yet, not sure how to get the stock recovery back if I flash something else.
When you first install twrp you have to immediately boot back into recovery so it can finish the process. So you'd install twrp via fastboot then hold down both volume buttons and power then choose recovery.

Any chance you are hitting power when you try selecting boot into recovery? For the Moto X the power button shuts the phone off and then since you have it plugged in the blue battery logo pops up. Try again but hit volume up to select recovery!
I thought I was doing that but after 3 tries but realized the phone is messed up. I got irecovery to work eventually. But had other problems. Brick. Went back to moto yesterday

Xperia Z won't boot up or how should I put this.

Hello,
I've recently installed CMOD 13 Marshmallow on my Xperia Z phone. I've decided that I also need Xposed app for other cool features but it seems that I've had to install some other I don't understand why things via Recovery. I was using TWRP to install CMOD 13 but when I've went back just to install this Xposed Frimware.zip file It wasint TWRP but CyanogenMod Recovery instead. I've tried to find out how to install it with this but no luck obviously... So then I found out that if I disable something I already don't remember what in developer options I can Install TWRP again with no big deal and this Android will stay without changing anything. I did just like that and just like that first time when Installing CMOD 13 it didn't boot up the OS but went to TWRP recovery. Once again I though eh ok who cares then Installed Xposed Frimware for Marshmallow and rebooted the device. Results are that It loaded the Sony logo but then the screen is black (working of course with light on the screen etc. yet it also goes to sleep if not touched for some time.). I don't know why did that happen and I don't know what to do. Anything I can do now? I can't even turn it off by holding the power button.
Regards,
Alex.
