Best Launcher - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using stock launcher but hate not having continuous scrolling.
Whats the best launcher with stock appearance?

I have used GO, Nova Prime, Lightning and Apex apart from the stock. I don't exactly get what you mean by stock appearance. But all these launchers offer a lot of customization options. I was impressed with Nova and went ahead and purchased Prime, especially since their updates are very frequent and the customizations options were just right for me.

Stock launcher vs adw

Why did cm force adw on us? Its a memory hog that wastes battery compaired to stock.
Don't even get me started on launcher pro. That's even worse. And its only made by 1 man.
What do you use? R&d by Google or a 1 man progect?

this one is pretty fast, I like it a lot:
Xperia Arc Launcher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978806&page=108
but you need to search withing the thread to find a right "version"
CyanogenMod is all about customization. ADW fits with what CM 7 is doing right now.
Personally, I use Launcher Pro+. Yeah, Fede needs to get back to work on it, but its customization is awesome.
they dont force you to use adw, i agree with you though i love the stock launcher for the nexus phones alot better than any custom launcher especially adw launcher, i think it is just a horrible creation that needs to be destroyed and completely re done its horrible. Launcher pro isnt bad i used it alot when i had my EVO with the plus version and all the widgets its pretty nice but yeah it does need an update but its alot cleaner than adw. Go launcher is another good one its pretty customizable plus i think its gpu powered like the stock gingerbread launcher.
This is the mod i use, it works on any custom aosp rom for the nexus s or nexus s 4g, it uses the stock gingerbread launcher for our phones, with some speed tweaks, you still get the 3d app drawer it has the messaging icon in place of where the browser icon would be on the dock bar. It installs easily through recovery and is fast as ****.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004744
there are also these ...
100% stock nexus s gingerbread launcher or 100% flash-able through recovery...

or
UD Launcher

I have used launcher pro, and adw and i found that GO launcher is best for me, since it offers high levels of customisation (down to the levels of changing backgrounds for the dock and animations) and it's relatively easy to operate.
It's not much of a memory hog too, which is great too

Yeah you can't go wrong with go launcher ex
How is it forced on you? Just uninstall it and use the launcher. You want.

I hate ADW
Zeam launcher ftw!!!!

It's very easy to change launcher. I use Zeam Launcher now.
i may be in the minority here, but go launcher ex is freakin sweet. i have never had such a smooth experience with a smartphone as i have with go launcher on bugless pete's rom.
I don't see how its forced on you. I've tried many different launchers. I can only achieve what I want my home to look and act like with adw and go launcher. Different things suit different people. I don't use the stock launcher because I don't use the phone or browser very much. And I hate the box around them. So those shortcuts are pointless for me. Personally my phone shows Google voice use more memory than adw. And that runs in the background. All in all just install another launcher. Adws not forced on you. If it was forced you wouldn't be able to change to a different launcher.
I love adw, but Go ex is much smoother, but there is no option to remove the dock and expand the desktop, so have stuck with adw.
Anway, just flash the stock launcher...no?

+1 but on Oxygen(+Trinity) for me.
delete .
I cannot stand the stock launcher, and the very first thing I install after flashing a new rom is either Go Launcher or ADW.
Miui is the only rom that I run w/o a launcher because it's native launcher is customizable and is pretty slick.
Who gives a **** if an app is developed by a single person? Sometimes that is better because decisions aren't made by compromise.

how the hell is adw a memory hog when it only uses 39mb RAM, while the stock launcher uses almost double???! stock launcher + live wallpaper breaks the phone apart, you barely have 50mb RAM left with this combination. so lemme see, no customization, memory hog and those retarded dock dots that cannot be removed, great launcher indeed!

My personal favorite is ADW EX, highly customizable but not free.
Free & very good is Go Launcher EX or Go Launcher HD.
and what about responsiveness? Ive tried Go launcher but also laggy like TW so I went back, uninstalled

Go is actually very responsive, I don't know anyone else who has a problem with it. Practically ANYTHING is better than TouchWiz on this device.
I tried LauncherPro but Go & ADW are quite a bit smoother.
Maybe there is an app on your device causing your responsiveness issues?
I have there a lot of widgets

That's part of your responsiveness issues but overall still Go should be much faster than TW. Have you enabled a fancy transition effect?
I vote for GO Launcher HD (not EX). I literally tried almost all launcher available and GO Launcher HD could beat other launchers, including those claim to have small and fast, in term of memory footprint and responsiveness.
The downside of this launcher is that it is quite new and almost all themes and widgets designed for EX version are incompatible with HD version. Fortunately the default theme of GO Launcher HD is good as is.

Go is pretty great. Depending on how much customization of the grid you want to do, EX or HD are both very fast, feature filled and free.
There's a free version of ADW but I'm not sure of the differences with the paid version.
Lightning Launcher, hands down, it's the fastest one there is, by miles.
I vote for GO launcher HD. Fast with small memory footprint; but I will try lightning as 白熊 suggested though.

I used Go ex and HD before Lightning for a long time, then tried lightning and there's just no comparison in speed. Impossible to go back. Everything flies under Lightning in comparison with Go.

Lightning is nice, and that resizable desktop is charming. However, I kinda need that folder support, and I read the facebook of the author he said that the folder support would not be coming any time soon.
Would you please suggest any workaround on that? Thanks!

So, can lightning launcher customise icons?
Yes.
Hello,
Does Nemus launcher works on the Galaxy Tab 7.7 ? It's so light and fast on my Galaxy S2..

Launchers?

Any one got a good recommendations for launchers?

Nova. Love it!
The most popular ones are Apex or Nova Launcher.
Both are great and you can't go wrong with either, I personally use Nova.
i've been using Nova forever and it's great. finally back on a Nexus with Verizon and giving Google Now launcher a run, really enjoy it but missing gestures (especially with such a large device) and icon packs. Wish there was a way to get icon packs to run on here without xposed.
I use Apex when I want the classic style launcher back. It works well.
+1 Nova Launcher Prime
Hands down Nova with prime, I also have Apex but it's nowhere near as smooth.
Action Launcher if you're looking for something a little different. Shutters and covers will change the way you use your phone.
Nova Launcher Prime is definitely the best launcher I've used
Nova Prime for me as well. I have tried others but always come back to Nova
Themer and yahoo if lazy, Nova or Apex if you aren't haha
anyone know if there is a way to back up your launcher set up/widgets in Titanium Backup? I tried backing up Google Now Launcher data and restore it when flashing a new ROM but to no avail...
Buzz Launcher
One of my very first thoughts when I got to the home screen on my N6 was wow the icons are huge. I love the Now launcher but give us some stock options for adjusting....as a result I installed buzz launcher (never used before). I have been very happy with it and I love the quick abilities to change themes. Of course, like other launchers you can change the grid sizes.
Nova The Best!!!
Nova Prime is my favorite.
Nova. Best ever. Epic launcher is a close 2nd.
Nova hands down.
Been rocking it since the days of the T-Mobile HTC G2. Ended up going for Nova Prime and never looked back.

Definately, I struggle to use any other launcher. Everything about it is just well thought out.
Nova prime

Cm launcher vs apus launcher?

Which is better? In terms of speed, app launching, battery consumption overall.
Stock launcher works fine for me, even though that wasn't one of your choices. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for; speed, the stock is plenty fast, app launching is really just shortcuts so all should be the same. If I had to choose it would be the stock or Google now launcher. Both are similar and speedy.

Your right it's all about preference. For me I use nova for its insane speed and low ram usage
I wouldn't say its just shortcuts because how you lay the shortcuts out changes how you use the device and how you like to use the device changes how you lay out your shortcuts. This is not the same thing and an important distinction because you cant always do what you want and this is where the launcher matters... Some give you options others do not which can allow you to set up a device more to your preference. Outside of the traditional launcher scheme used by Nova, Apex and many others you can also use contextual launchers like Aviate or launchers that are just plain different like Action 2 which step outside the box.
IMO picking a launcher is highly subjective and they really need to be taken for good test drive.

Your very right! I have literally used every single launcher out there that's in the top 10 best ones. My top 3 is nova, action launcher 3, and cm launcher
I checked out the action launcher 3 it was pretty awesome I want to check it out more. I have used and can't finding something as good as apex myself. But that advanced seems pretty neat doesn't do much but it does what I need
There is a launcher called dodol launcher that is slowly growing on me .. If I ever man up and pay for nova launcher I think it'd be the obvious choice.

Touchwiz or 3rd party launcher

All,
Just wondering what launcher are you using on your Note 5? The stock Touchwiz or a 3rd party ie Nova or Action Launcher? I'm currently using Action launcher but actually considering going back to Touchwiz.
Love to hear what you guys doing.
Love action launcher! Full of great and smart features. Bringing in custom icons along with changing theme has made the phone a lot more usable for me.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I usually like nova with the hipster icon set but am liking the stock look so far. Will end up going back to nova once Im tired of stock and vice versa!
I hate say it but I'm still using stock. This is a 1st
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Nova all the way. Although I have installed the free material design theme and I love it.
Yeah I usually always switch to Nova but for the first time I'm finding the stock launcher not to be horrible.
I'm all for Nova, It does everything I need so I haven't had any reason to stray away from it.
I've always had a 3rd party launcher installed... but as a first, I'm still using TW and am not annoyed. Though I wish the desktop had a landscape mode.
I'm actually really liking the stock TouchWiz launcher. Plenty customizable and crazy fast.
I use Google now launcher or what ever google calls it these days
I typically use Nova. However I loaded it on my Note5 and it doesn't feel as snappy as TouchWiz (can't believe I said that) no matter how much I tinkered with the animation settings, etc.
Using action launcher 3 here, things are pretty great!
Still stock launcher. If I switch it will be to nova, as that is my preference.
However, right now with the material dark them I'm kind of liking the stock launcher...
Rocking out with Stock launcher for now but generally on all of my phones it's a toss up between the Nova launcher or Google now launcher.
Using nova. I did set up the stock but I hate the page indicators which always make my screens look top heavy because i have a 5x5 grid
I am also a nova fan. been using it for years now.
the main reason I just nova is because of the grid setup. Don't like having such a large screen and such big icons, it feels like a waste of space.
Stock TouchWiz is really good on this phone, I can't really come up with a good reason to change launchers, first time I haven't run Nova launcher in years
Used TW for a couple days. Then switched to Nova as I always do. Might try Action Launcher, my buddy swears by it.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I have to admit TW is much better this time around. However, I am still using Nova Launcher. I just like the ability to tweak everything slightly to be exactly how I like. The single largest reason why I went with Nova instead of TW is the option to remove padding around widgets though. it just looks so much nicer IMO.
Solo launcher is pretty good too - you need to remove some of the crapware but it's pretty nippy
