Those of you using stock-based ROMs, when playing FM radio, are you required to have a headset attached? I'm just wondering because in CyanogenMod you do, and I was under the impression that you didn't need one on the XZ. (Would be pretty silly considering it isn't waterproof with a pair of headphones attached)
Yes you do with ANY phone. FM radio is relatively "long-wave (3 metres)/low frequency" so a long antenna is necessary. In this case, an external one.
Incidentally, the FM radio sensitivity and audio quality on the XZ is superb. I use cheap HTC 'phones as they have a particularly good "antenna" arrangement in the cable and Mic pod.
In terms of FM radio quality, from my current experience, Sony SP and Z are top, Samsung GS3 second and HTC (One and One S) are almost unusable. I use the FM radio a lot... for that reason the GS4 would be a no-go.

How to bypass FM radio to check for earphone jack as anthena
Kind of annoying always need to plug ear piece to listen to radio
No way to bypass, since you need an antenna for receiving FM transmission, and the ear piece cable acts as that antenna....
Silicon Labs has made a chip with an integrated antenna - but it will be released or better be integrated in the future, that means in upcoming and the hd following devices.
Hi,
I was thinking that if FM transmitter exist for HTC diamond or a more general one for all mobiles??
I know that Soney Ericsson has something like that where you can transmit to FM Radio while playing your music on your mobile phone!!
It would be great, having a live radio on the net, using my HTC mobile 3G network and transmit the audio to FM radio while driving
Any ideas how to do that? Would be great to have something like that and a more general device which can be used with most manufactures would even be better!!
Motorola T505. Connects via bluetooth to your Diamond and then has a digital FM transmitter to divert the audio to your FM radio. Also gives you hands free for your car and supports A2DP stereo over bluetooth. If you use turn by turn GPS on your Diamond you can hear the commands on the T505 or on your car stereo. Highly recommended.
James
thanks
thanks james,
Just ordered one
Is there any cheaper solution?
not bad
Well, I found one for around £49 which is okay!
Hope its worth the money, and sound/voice over FM is clear and in good quality
lets see, otherwise, will just return it back.
been using the belkin tunecaster II since i had my old himalaya / xda2
works fine
I'm just wondering if there is any kind of FM transmitter on the xperia, because my friend's n97 has one, and I am really not in the mood for dropping $40 buying one.
never mind, found the answer with a bit of searching, how the heck do I close this thread?
for the people reading this and thinking 'that would be nice for me as well' you could of course answer your own question here
most fm transmitters just have a 3.5m jack connector
and makes any sound to fm waves all devices which send music into
the headset connector are supported be it a phone, ipod, stereo or your guitar amp
so everything is compatible

does it works to connect the xperia x1 per fm transmitter with the car radio, wireless?
Just incase anyone out there is wondering if the bluetooth wireless speaker Sony MBS-100 works with the legend, yes, it does. Complete with volume control on your phone working fine (doesn't work on iphone). I'm glad I can still use this with my new phone.
Using Azure 1.01, stock music application.
What can you say about the sound quality?
Sound quality is just as good as it was on my old Sony Ericsson.
If you were curious to the speaker yourself, it's got great frequency range and a nice even sound, though top volume could be a bit more on some devices(fine on Legend)
It also doubles as a bluetooth receiver for larger stereos, as the 3.5mm in also doubles as an output.
Hey guys, does anyone know where I could get a good car kit for mu Legend. I'm looking for a device that uses the radio as an FM transmitter (so that I can stream the music on my SD card to one of the frequencies on the radio).
I've searched online but cant seem to find any that are compatible with the Legend.
jabra cruiser bluetooth carkit maybe
Interesting, I never thought of using a Speakerphone as a transmitter.
From doing a bit of reserch the Motorola Motorokr T505 looks to be the better option - much cheaper as well.

Thanks!
that is easy to make fm transmitter, just need simple electronic parts
so you can creat it by your self
For me I just have auto answer on speaker and have the Legend where the visor is right above my head, I don't even need a proper bluetooth dock or anything except for my motorbike where I use a helmet headset.
