In build.prop you can tweak a few things in gingerbread to modify certain things.
For 1080p recording go into root explorer and find build.prop under /system/ open in text edit and find ro.media.camcorder and change 720p to 1080p.
to enable hdmi mirroring find in the same file the line that says ro..hdmi.mirror.enable change false to true you have to have the apk installed and this will also interfere with entertainment center
note: reboot is required for these to take effect if anyone has anyother tweaks please reply.
Edit: sorry but you need to use root explorer!
This build.prop app can be used to tweak the setting as well. AFAIK this app will allow you to tweak the majority of the build.prop settings without using root explorer etc.

Another one to edit if you feel the need is wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=* <---This will help conserve battery with a higher value. Alien #1 is set to 90. I dont remember the default value. Increases the time between wifi signal scans. Saves battery!!!
Thanks guys this is great

You have to be rooted and have superuser. Thats the only requirement for this app that ive found.

I just removed app from superuser, uninstalled app. Re-installed app, upon launch it asked for superuser permission, allowed, tap Open*.prop file then tap /build.prop. That should gain you access, if not something isnt right.
Anyone else have this issue???

Im also having this issue (rooted with root explorer granted SU). Im not quite understanding your workaround. Did you uninstall root explorer entirely?
Also, I read somewhere that enabling 1080p doesn't increase the framerate, resulting in a quality of recording less impressive than 720p. Is that not the case here?

I reinstalled to see if it gave me the read only error that others are getting and for me after I allow superuser permission i have full access to build.prop. I personally use File expert. Its free and in the settings you can select root explorer and then choose the mount option. Let me turn off root explorer in file expert and see if i can get the RO message.\
*edit* No RO only message. Changed back to RO in file expert, un installed file expert, uninstalled build.prop editor, cleared data from superuser. reinstalled build.prop---asked for superuser-allowed-full access again. I dont have anything special on my atrix. Just running alien 1. I ran this on Froyo as well.
Edit: deleted incorrect info

I followed all the steps in the OP. I've gotten it to work but it pops up for like 2 seconds then goes to black for maybe 10 seconds then boots to home screen.

hi,
this little guide explain how to disable completely ( brightness and touch) of hardware buttons.
PRE-REQUISITES:
-ROOT
-file manager with root permission
-terminal emulator
HOW TO:
-DISABLE SOFT KEYS
-with file manager open
/system/build.prop
and add this line at the end of file
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
(when you want to restore change 0 to 1)
-create a copy of
/system/usr/keylayout/touch_dev.kl
on you sdcard (for restore)
-with your file manager open
/system/usr/keylayout/touch_dev.kl
go to the end of file and under:
Code:
#x3 synaptics touch
delete the line incoming with:
Code:
key158
key139
key102
and save the file!
!!WARNING!! this disable the keys!
- DISABLE SOFT KEYS BACKLIGHT
-on terminal emulator with root permission insert this code:
Code:
echo 0 >/sys/devices/platform/button-backlight/leds/button-backlight/brightness
and
Code:
echo 0 >/sys/devices/platform/button-backlight/leds/button-backlight/max_brightness
-YOU ARE DONE!!
sometimes the brightness are restored but you can do a script to do this 2 lines of code at startup with Rom toolbox
if i help you click thanks )

just a suggestion, you should add a line to build.prop that enables the virtual buttons then
'cause if people do this without having a "backup plan", they can be doomed
IMO it has no sense for me navbar just takes screen space and our touch buttons are just perfect.

One use would be for gaming, as it eliminates kicking yourself to home screen with the buttons and getting disconnected. I do this often when I try to throw a grenade on mc4 software buttons and adequate warnings should indeed be added to this guide, but thanks!

If u go one step further (like me ^^) you can use the home button to go to standby... Waking it doesnt work, cause its touchscreen...
Sent from my LG P880
if u go another step u can use xposed framework module for remap this three buttons for what u want
you can do this on MIUI without any mod/3rd party tools. i don't know why such options is not available CM/AOSP based roms.

If you're using any apps like Twilight that create a screen filter, then you have to disable them to enable installation of apk files (or in the case of Twilight, there is a specific setting for this in the app settings).
