[DISCUSSION] Gimlu, a new rom based on stock fw... (Xperia T) - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hey,
I recently bought a Xperia T and I'm starting to make my own rom, so I would like to know if it could interest some people if I share it.
And in a most important way, I would like to have your suggestions, to know what you have tested and works or not works. I already say thanks to the person who will do that, it will save me more time.
I will release it on the same way as the other roms that I make (links in my signature).
So this thread is open for discussion about the rom and I will update it so you can follow the dev of the rom.
[29/06/2013] Start to cook the "Gimlu Rom"
[27/06/2013] Release of the "Gimlu Firmware" based on Sony Stock Firmware 9.1.A.1.142 for Xperia T

I guess every ROM is welcome and will find its friends...no need to ask before in an extra thread like this

Good luck sir.

Thread reopened.

Thanks for the reopen of the thread GaboWinter.
So, let's talk about Gimlu.
Yesterday, I released the Gimlu Firmware based on Sony Stock Firmware 9.1.A.1.142 for Xperia T. It include the Aroma installer!
It was not so easy but I got it. The "Gimlu Firmware" include the root by DooMLoRD and CWM by davidmarco. The color of the Aroma installer are a little strange but it's usable. I was just surprise that CWM require this file (/system/btmgr/bin/busybox) if someone has more info about it, it's welcome.

I think busybox has something to do with root access.

I got an answer for Busybox and CWM, that's ok.
But now, I found another new thing. There is a partition "apps_log" which is mount in "/data/idd", what's the purpose of this partition? And is it necessary to wipe it before to make a fresh install?

maybe you can put in an option for disable navbar and installing lmt launcher? that would be an idea, i guess.

Thanks for the suggestion, do you know if it's already compatible with our device? I really like their navbar... the best thing will be to use their navbar without their launcher.
Actually, I included Apex, Nova, Xperia GX and "Xperia T" (another than the actual one) launcher.

hm i mean just option for remove navigation bar and add lmt launcher (in apps section of xda) its not a full launcher like nova or apex, its a free app for using Handy in fullscreen mode. lmt launcher is usable with nova for example.
-> bigger screen, ugly navigation bar gone

Actually, I'm focus on all "bloatware" because there is many more apps than in my previous phone.
For the navbar, I'm no sure that's possible to remove it, I had seen a mod (but for non-stock rom) which modify it's size and to do it, it modifies an important file... Then no sure that's possible to completely remove this navbar.
For the lmt launcher, sorry... when I saw launcher, I was thinking to a complete launcher like apex and nova.
Anyway, I will integrate it for sure!

This app hides the navigation bar safely, and is a double whammy in that it also acts as a 'hide-able' navigation bar.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198

That's look pretty good, thanks to both of you guys.
So it's possible to change the size and hide completely the navbar with a simple apk, so no need to tweak framework-res.apk and systemui.apk. And there is a beautiful new nevbar (lmt launcher) to replace it. :good::good:

great to see another stock based rom coming.
i almost try anything that's based on stock, much better than cm/open source based stuff..

about the bloatware: for my taste i would prefer a really light rom (the more light, the more better) i mean i would also delete the smallapps. but thats a personal taste.i think everyone who wants some sony apps/bloatware can manually install that after installing rom, my opinion. but its your rom, so you should integrate the apps you like and use
by the way, i remember my last stock rom with firmware .141 was modified with some tweaks, it stopped the camera application running in background, at first opening the camera needs longer time, but it also saves battery. not sure what tweak or how to integrate. but if it helps, i can give you the link to the rom (german site)

settings/phonebook background theming?
maybe helps you find some ideas...

@Pollie81
I was a fan of CM... but unfortunately, they can't make "fine grain" rom per device, they make one rom for all the devices with the result that some functionalities are not more available, like NFC...
@immerblind
Yes, all the ideas are welcome, that will help me to build/cook the rom.
Something that will make you happy, I don't remember if I told that before but I'm using Aroma as installer, it allows to make fine grain install process. And as I like to let the end users make himself his own rom by choosing which app(bloatware) he want to keep or not, it's perfect.
For example, I'm making the bloatware list, actually it's divided in 3 sections of approximatively 8 apps per section. And you can check/uncheck which app you want to keep/remove. As simple as that.

ya that sound nice with the end user choosing his likes in aroma, i know what you mean.
not sure how far you can go (or want go) with theming stuff?
me, for example, i prefer white backgrounds. many like dark backgrounds, maybe you can also make a choosable point about that stuff?
in the themes section we have xtheme engine threads, for theming some stuff and apply themes. the people who use that stuff can help you maybe
on google its easy to find sony bloatware lists. i guess you already searched there?
for example:
http://www.phonandroid.com/forum/liste-des-applications-supprimables-dans-jelly-bean-t31944.html
i wish good luck with making your rom

i know, aroma is really awesome.
at the LG Optimus Black section there was a dev that used aroma on his roms, some people complained about the large rom size but come on.. we almost all have fast internet right?!
the advantage is as you already stated, fully customizable rom so everyone can make his own perfect version.
i think it's the perfect way to install a rom, no need to make full or light rom versions but let the user decide for itself.
good luck with cooking!
:good:

Sorry for the late answer, big week of work. :s
@immerblind
About theming stuff, yes I saw the mod "xtheme engine" but it seems to be a little bit complicated anyway I will check again...

Go Launcher EX theme - Menu background issue

Hello there guys, not long ago I've started fighting against this Go Theme's Factory application to get my first theme done and I'm having some issues which I'll describe you, and I hope you can give me a hand with
1) No matter what home menu background I choose, those little lines separating each icon won't dissapear.
http*//postimage*org/image/pfr3r1iup/
Does anyone have any idea on how to eliminate those white lines?
2) And about the theme's icons, I've seen many Go Launcher EX themes that contain several custom icons on the icon selection list that do NOT refer to any application or apk. For example, some themes contain more than 1 icon for the browser so you can choose the one that you like most. So the question is: How do I add custom icons to my Go Launcher EX's icon selection list that do not refer to a specific application (apk) ? In other words, what I want is to be able to add a custom browser icon to the icon selection list, without having to refer 'that' icon to the browser application or apk.
Thank you very much for your time and patience while reading this!!!

Sword Art Online User Interface ICS

Hello Guys!
I tried making a Sword Art Online Widget Interface on my HTC Incredible S running on ICS.
preview is attached below. i cant post any links since im new sorry for the inconvenience
2 main applications I used:
Apex Launcher: available on google play
Glaeja : available on google play.
*Apex Launcher works for ICS and Jelly Bean only i think
I recommend installing Apex Launcher first
Apex Launcher setup after installation:
(Not sure this will work though, since settings are from my phone)
1. Download all the attached files with apex on it. Copy on sdcard. (extract zipped files)
2. Move apex_settings.bak to /sdcard/Android/data/apexlauncher/
3. Open apex settings and go to backup and restore
4. Select restore.
Glaeja Setup after installation:
1. Create New Widgets on Home Screen. 1 4x1 Glaeja Widget for the hpbatterybar and 2 3x3 Glaeja Widgets for the bars.
2. Download the skins, images and font files and paste them to the corresponding folders found in /sdcard/com.gmail.kanitawa.glaeja/
3.Select the widgets on HomeScreen and click Load Skin, select the corresponding skin file.
4. Select None on the On Click option.
Notes:
Apex:
-Key Settings:
Number of Screens = 3
Transition Effect = None
Use Tablet UI Mode = unchecked
Minimum Scrolling Time = 2
Show Wallpaper = checked, Mode = Singlescreen
Glaeja:
-For the Name on HP bar just edit widget and then find the corresponding text with Shawn on it. Edit the Display Text. same goes for LV: __
-For Shortcuts of the bar, the shortcuts can be replaced on the Transparent Buttons found on the bar widgets.
There is also a video showing my work on youtube, it has poor quality but it satisfies it purpose. (again sorry for not being able to post links since im new)
Thanks guys! And I hope some people find this post helpful. Comments will be greatly appreciated.
UPDATE:
Uploaded missing file manager icon

How did you get the Apex buttons to open different Glaeja widget menus,as well as change to the yellow one when clicked? Or did you just make it look that way. Running on SGS3 with CM10.

Help
How exactly do you do all that you did to make it look the way it did in the images. I am completely lost in terms of what to do... I don't really know how to make anything come out as it should and after about an hour of messing around with everything I gave up on trying to figure out from the directions that were given... Can I get a step-by-step instruction as to how you set it up? thanks
Hey! Your SOA theme looks really amazing! I tried to set it up, but my apexlauncher wasn`t in the SC card?? Is there a different way to insert the settings into apex launcher?
Yea your instructions dont really help at all. Even had to create the folder for the apexlauncher but i somehow think that the settings backup didnt do anything at all. An howto would be very appreciated since it does look very good.

Just a heads up. You can use any images for the icons, any images for the widgets/text/etc. Once you grasp what is happening and put a lot of time into it, your imagination is the limit.
I'll try to explain what is happening here, that I see. I have a similar "tabbed' style setup on my tablet. I'm using Nova and a quick one button tutorial you can easily do to see what is happening goes as so...
1. Press and hold blank spot on screen, press Nova actions, then press jump to page, and select page 2 (this will be 2nd from the far left of your setup, adjust accordingly). Now you will have an icon on your screen.
2. Press and hold the icon, select edit and you can replace the icon with any image you see fit. Now you have your "button". For example sake, lets say you have an icon/text that you want to have media stuff brought up.
3. Now on page 2, which should be blank (no icon), you will want to make the same 'jump to page icon' again, this time in a color of your choice, so that it looks "selected." Obviously this means you will have to edit/color your image/text as you see fit. I colored my "media" icon text, the color blue for example.
4. Next up, now that you have a colored icon on screen 2, making it look selected, is to fill up screen 2 with media stuff. You can use the images he uses, or just widgets already in your phone, or the above glaeja app that looks like it can be useful here. Your widget can be text that has click actions, that open up apps etc. It looks like the OP has placed the arrow icon on this page as well as to give it more of a this is what you selected look. The options are endless.
So then you just repeat that process with icons on screen #1 that jump to the other pages of you phone, that have been edited to have the content on them you're going for. It's painstaking, but hopefully I've made a visual for you that sheds light on what is going on and once you grasp that, you can make anything.
Very creative work by the OP here, just wanted to share my thoughts for the last couple posters that are having a hard time. I can make a tutorial if necessary. :good:

Essentially, you are going to create all of your screens to have the 5 "button" vertical layout (or however you want it to be, 4 buttons, 8, etc). Your main screen, they will be all white it color (again whatever color you choose) and swipe one screen to right, have the same 5 buttons vertical, but the one icon you want to make look "selected" have it yellow, in this instance and also on that screen would be the corresponding widget with the images and icons/text you want to look like it opened. How this works it when setting launcher to no scroll on wallpaper, and setting the button as a widget action to turn to page '2', it flings the screens to screen 2, where one icon is "selected" and there is different content on the screen (the widget, ie looking like it opened a menu). search on youtube for tabbed setup for android and you'll see setups alike.

[THEMES][STOCK] Jelly Bean, Windows 8, S3 [iamareebjamal]

Themes for Stock based ROMs
For the point on, when I noticed some of my themes work on other ROMs too, I planned to make a General thread for them. Purpose of this thread is to talk about the particular theme, which if was done in the specific ROM thread, it will clutter it and deprive the people of the on topic conversation they are having. I have seen previously too that it may confuse people when someone is talking about a general ROM and the other one is talking about it's theme. So, I am gonna discuss about features, bugs, requests for ROM themes here, and for notifying on which ROMs the theme work, I will create a post in that thread. So, let's start

FAQ
Why credits section is so large?
Because I don't kang and provide PROPER credits to all people, you should too. An ideal credit section of a modded stock ROM or theme should be this big only with proper mention of usernames and the things which they are credited for. Just mentioning names is like providing money to beggars, you should respect them to share things with us and thank them for their contribution, without them there would be no mod or theme.
Open Source doesn't mean disrespect

So here we go guys. Metrosphere v1
A theme that I can call being fully made by me(except for the people in credits section Ofcourse )
Every bit of UI was tried to be themed. It was themed so much that you couldn't be able to realise. Small things human eye can't notice were not left out. But yes, there can never be 100 %
This theme approaches a combined venture to make android look like Windows Phone 8 or metro. Let me explain where from it's taken
UI bar, progress bars, seek thumb- Windows Phone 8
Dialer - Windows Phone 8
System Icons - Windows Phone 8
Status Bar - Windows Phone 8
Popup Windows, menu - Windows Phone 8
Notification Panel - Windows Phone 8
Bootanimation - Windows Metro
Task Panel Background - Windows Metro
Contacts(Custom App) - Windows Phone 8
Messanging(Custom app) - Windows Phone 8
Buttons - Windows Phone 8
Text Field- Windows Phone 8
Rings, Sliding Tab - Windows Phone 8
Waves lockscreen - My innovation
Shutter Lockscreen - Windows Metro
Icons - Windows Metro
Settings - Windows Metro
Bootanimation - Windows Metro

The Cosmic Hub Preview

COSMIC v3
Happy New Year 2014
Introduction:
Cosmic v3 is a Jelly Bean 4.3 theme based on 2.3.6 stock Firmware. The base ROM Cosmic v3 is made for is Simplicity v5. However, THEORETICALLY, it can work(maybe) on any custom ROM(Tested on Simplicity v5 and SGS3 v6). It is not only a theme, I call it a S-ROM, Parasite ROM, or a Zombie ROM, because, it takes up the host ROM and make it COSMIC, i.e. add some features too. Enough talking, let's get rolling
Features:
Jelly Bean Easter Egg
Revamped new Settings with dynamic Title Bar like Jelly Bean
Blue Battery Chart and Installed Bar
DialerTab just like Jelly Bean
Overhauled Task Manager for Complete Jelly Bean look
New and much much efficient Cosmic Hub
5 way Boot Menu
Completely Dark Look (Holo Dark)
Methods preventing White on White Bug
New Music App with Jelly Bean Look
New Contacts app with Jelly Bean look
Edit Text fields in internal app changed to Holo Dark
Much more JB like Dialogs and Buttons
Overall simplistic look including Status Bar, Notification Panel and Recent Apps
Not only this, a person can lose track of things when he is making something for over 3 months, use the theme to find out
Note:
Me:As I didn't have much time...
Random User:Huh, You're making this since September! I can't believe you're saying that
Me: Yeah, well, I don't care, let's continue... As I didn't have much time, you can call this Beta version, why?, because I think I did not get all things to do with it. However, it's even more stable than most ROMs here
Click to collapse
No part of the ROM(including the codes from apps[Yeah, some people think decompiling and studying and then adding the code in their ROM without crediting the original modder isn't kanging]) to be used without prior permission.
Why?
All the things from here and probably even help will be provided if you first ask me on PM. I've generously given and told everything anyone wanted even before releasing it. So, please, don't kang
Also, by knowing where the work is going, I can ensure the rightful people from whom I've taken helps are rightfully credited.

It's a Beta version, there ARE some black on black bugs, and as I'm not able to actively support this at the moment. I will not take any suggestion or feature request.
You are very welcome if you want to contribute here by listening to complaints of people and fixing them, it will be greatly appreciated

[TOOL] Sony's Theme Creator

Sony's Theme Creatorhttps://developer.sony.com/develop/smartphones-and-tablets/theme-creator/
Hello XDA!
We are the team behind Sony's Theme Creator tool - a tool that makes it easy for seasoned designers as well as for beginners to start making themes for Xperia devices.
A lot of people here on the team regularly visit XDA for one reason or another, and have been doing so for many years. For a long while now, we've been wanting to somehow connect with all the truly amazing theme creators for Xperia devices - the work and hours that you all have put into making themes of every color shape and size is truly astounding and is something to be proud of. Thank you, truly! (A big shout-out to everyone over at Sony Cross-Device Development Themes and Apps!)
So - why are we making this thread? We would love to hear about your thoughts on the tool itself, as well as your suggestions, feedback and any bugs you might've found whilst using the tool. Having all of this concentrated into one thread makes sense, and makes it easy for us to quickly - and directly - answer any questions you might have regarding the tool or theming for Xperia devices in general.
Key Features
Code:
* A simple, attractive and logical GUI for every step of theme creation.
* An easy-to-use resource navigation view helps organize the large variety of
customizable interface elements (resources).
* A preview area in the tool to see screen views, helping you to preview your
changes on different Xperia devices/Android versions.
* Interface elements are editable using any image editor.
* If you are using Adobe Photoshop, we provide downloadable templates for use
with Theme Creator.
* A sophisticated, but easy-to-use 9-patch editor and a color picker, which you can use to
further refine your design, and adjust how each element looks in different contexts.
* With just one click in the Theme Creator tool, you can build, install and apply a
theme on a connected Xperia device. This allows you to quickly test and verify the
result of your changes on a target device with ease.
Getting Started
But enough of all that - follow these easy steps to get started:
Code:
1. Download and install Sony's Theme Creator, found [URL="https://developer.sony.com/develop/smartphones-and-tablets/theme-creator"]here[/url].
2. Install the current version of JRE from [URL="http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html"]here[/URL].
3. Have some form of an image editor installed (Paint, GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, etc.)
- As mentioned above, if you are using Adobe Photoshop, we also have some very handy
[URL="https://developer.sony.com/develop/smartphones-and-tablets/theme-creator/how-to-work-with-templates/"].PSD templates[/URL] that will keep your theme project nice and tidy.
When you are done with your theme and having exported your apk and distributed it to where you like - feel free to submit it to Sony's Theme Portal
where we feature great looking themes for our Xperia users. (More info can be found here.)
That's about it; to learn more about how to get started with your first theme, we have some handy and more in-depth guides available here.
And to top it off, we also made a little introductory video on how to get started:
Thank you for reading, and once again - a big thank you to the entire Xperia community!

That's strange... What software version is your phone running? Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number. I'll forward this to someone who can investigate further.
Alternatively, do you have adb installed? If you do, can you please run the following while applying a theme:
Code:
adb logcat | grep skin
And post the results. The output should tell me what is wrong.

The phone software constantly changes, and each hardware version has a slight variation/uniqueness in software. With all possible combinations of hardware and software you have hundreds, if not thousands of different configurations you are targeting when building themes. One of the responsibilities of Theme Creator is to maximize the compatibility of your theme automatically to make it easier to support all these different configurations. As long as you use a relatively new version of the tool, most theme features should work "automatically" on most phones. Xperia X software contains some specific new features that we don't (yet) support, and it might (I'm not sure) have dropped some old features that other phones support. But in general, yes, everything should work as before. If you notice something or somebody tells you that a certain feature no longer works as before, please tell me and I'll look into it.
Thanks
Sorry, I do not have the Xperia C5. I got this information from the user.
I asked also that themes made by Sony work. (also not work)
Look on Sony Support forum link
In my opinion the problem is in SystemUi.apk in somc_skin_permissions.xml file.
But I'm not 100% sure because I do not have this file
I see the new versionI test and let you know
Thanks again
See You

I don't think MM is supported just yet.
You can see mm here. Selected colors in creator are blue, but installed on phone are yellow?! Only in alarm and clock app...

Hi,
If you click the button in the preview you'll see the resource used at that location. In this case it is the "Global Colors / Light / Accent" color that is being used. The default accent color is slightly different on different SW/HW versions. For example if you activate Lollipop and Marshmallow previews side by side you'll see that the lollipop accent is orange while the marshmallow accent is blue. But if you customize the color in your theme then it should be the same on all platforms. So try customizing the light accent color and then the problem should hopefully be resolved.
If customizing the color doesn't solve your problem then please tell me which SW label your phone is on (Settings -> About Phone -> Build number) and I'll investigate further!
Buld no. is 30.2.A.1.21, mm... I already did what you said. And I looked at the themes installed from google play, the same issue in every theme! Why we've got preview of clock apk if we can't change it?
Amazing
###Suggestion###
Implementing themed components on the quick settings pull down...
- Switch icons
-Switch colours
-Quick settings background colour/image/transparency/blur
-Quick settings header colour/image/transparency/blur
I would love to see all these brought in because I was using CM roms and it looked great and also because the stock colour on the Quick settings look boring now.
can any one please share xperia theme creator v1.2.0 .I have been looking everywhere but no luck
Manually add theme elements?
Hi, since the Xperia Theme Creator does'nt yet support Android 7.0 (Nougat) I wonder if it is possible to manually add these theme elements. If it is possible I assume I would add these in the \.project\resources file, right? With corresponding .png files in \skins\[subfolder], of course. If this is the case, what do I name these .png files?
For example, how would I do to edit the magnifying glass icon in the apptrays search field? This is not a resource in the Xperia Theme Creator yet and must therefore be added manually (I guess?). What do I name the .png file? I would have posted an image showing exactly what magnifying glass icon I'm talking about, but apparently I'm not allowed to do that until I've made at least ten posts. Sorry about that, I hope you understand which icon I mean.
Thank you.

As most of the file names seem to be the same as they are in the system apks that are themed except prefixed with somc_, it seems obvious what you name them and where to put them but won't know unless you try. I would look in the home app for that icon and it's original name, generally the drawable-xhdpi-v4 is where to look first.

Hey, I'm making myself a theme in the theme creator app, and was wondering if anyone knows how to change the xperia keyboard skin, like to make my own skin/colors. I can't find an option in the app, is it possible?
If anyone knows this please help, thanks
(sorry for bad english...)
hi,
i'm new here and wanted to ask:
If Theme Creator supports when a custom rom is used (LineageOS)?
I've tested ist, but get the following Error, when try to install: INSTALL_FAILD_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY ... ... com.sonymobile.runtimeskinning._2:failing
Is it because the Custom Rom, or the Theme Creator generally works, but just not on Android 7.xx at the moment?
Does anyone know how can I create themes that include static wallpapers? All the static wallpapers of the themes I created are recognized as live wallpapers even though I wasn't creating any live wallpaper. I am using the latest, 1.3.3.
