Since we do have some progress on CM7 for our device, why don't we start the development on MIUI as well?
Just to give you an idea of what MIUI is:
http://en.miui.com/
Developers are welcome! I am really new in porting builds in kitchens, but I am ready to get my hands dirty on this one
I have knowledge on working in linux environments, compiling kernel/modules, scripting, but lack of android kitchen knowledge, any pointers where to start will be great!
With jerpela/blagus and other developer's permission, perhaps if I have any questions and or needed files/drivers/etc for building MIUI up, I can ask?
I'll start a git hub or cvs for this project as well - let me know if you wanna get involved too!
this might be a good place to start...
[TUTORIAL] porting miui nexus rom to x10
BTW... Arc is using MSM8255 chip... so u can look at all compatible devices... like HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z, others....
u will mostly have to uses/mix files from SE stock libs + other places...
just one request... whenever u use files from someone else kindly give them credit for it, cause they have worked hard to make those fles working... a link to their ROM/patch/etc would be also be a good idea...
best of luck!
Well that's a good news.
Start over with your project. We can give help @ some problems, but not at all now
BTW: I cannot understand why you like MIUI, but that's quite personal I hate Iphone noobish layout.

Bin4ry: one of the few reasons is that it has a fully customizable theming engine in the back where u can just customize quite a lot of things like status bar, fonts, icons, etc, instead of using a third party launcher. Anyway like you said, it's a personal taste thing
Thanks everyone for the heads up, will spend the long weekend to work on this!

CM7 theme engine is great.
BTW, I'm not a dev and don't understand about porting FW right now. but I'm really interested about this android world and custom FW. Maybe I'll start with reading thread you provided
i would like it lean please
god news for us as development for arc is very limited and slow

CM7 theme management is great, mind you, but again it's personal taste I guess. Been living on CM7 since G2 Hero, HD Mini, X10, HD2, Desire Z, SGS, got tired I guess I like the fact that MIUI allows customization based on components instead of a full theme overhaul, and notifications are top-to-bottom toast popups, built in ftp, fonts, etc. Perhaps these can all be replaced by updating framework-res, or installing customized fonts, etc. But ease of use is also my concern...
Aaaaanyway before i go full throttle and brag on about its good vs bad, I shall stop and thank DooMLoRD for the X10 guide!

Miui its not about themes, its a full android custom rom. Own file manager, music , camera, gallery, and mucho more.
I don like iphone style too but you can custumize miui like hell

you have to use precompiled miui because there is no source released and this is like porting any other rom from any device, you can do the same with htc sense
in our opinion this mixing of libs should not be done, take an source and build your own rom then theme it as you like
mixing libs is not desired, even if filename is the same there are many things to be considered!
Main thing for miui
Ramdisk
.sh etc files
Libgsl
Hw and hw config files
I don't know arc files so may need other core files not in miui rom
Then you make sure media and system server work correct and should at least boot
Then backsmali service jar and configure power and native daemon are correct

Thought it was just me, just bought the arc because I was impatient waiting for GB on the X10.. trips miui cam works well but i hate the layout.
The Arc has GB, a great cam & an unlocked BL.. so bring on the AOSP 2.3.4 & CM7 roms..
i'm just curious about the lockscreen rdannar demonstrated in x10 miui rom, the rest i distaste a bit ^^
would be much more excited to see this lockscreen in other roms.
still - keep going & develop this rom, if not use this one, one might take parts of the work for use it elsewhere. dont think effort will be lost here
I can't wait for this, i'd love to see Miui running on my Arc.
i would love this aswell, if there is anything i can help or try please let me know!
very noob question : do we need custom kernel to make miui rom works on arc? case like in CM7, stock kernel can't work with CM.

Im pretty sure will need a new kernel yes.
Ok thought I would take the rubbish out of the dev thread.
So far I have done this:
Flashed JVT from start with custom .PIT file. Speeds up Ice Cream sandwich, I've tested this and it works great. Visually no lag and it works on top of any lag fix you do after wards.
[HOW TO]
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/i...-12mb-in-nand-symlink-modem.6361/#post-131323
So here it is:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/43088692/12MB_Gain_NAND_Symlinked_Modem.bin.zip
Download and instructions - Everything you need is in that zip (its not a CWM zip by the way) load it to your PC and unzip. Follow the PDF print outs I have included and also as an acknowledgement to ykkfive's hard work (this references directly back to coolya's work from XDA https://github.com/cmsgs/utilities/tree/master/pit-stuff)
http://ykkfive.blogspot.com/2011/08/freenandmod-get-more-space-from-nand.html#.TvimZtSO3TQ
http://ykkfive.blogspot.com/2011/09/switch-to-another-modem-version-without.html#.TvimaNSO3TR
1. You can do this by taking a CWM Nandroid backup of your current setup.
2. Flash back to stock using Odin and the files I have provided in my drop box zip file.
3. I have added modem.bin file, script manager apk, buszybox apk and superuser apk for everyone should they wish to test the script and modem on the base JVT setup that they just flashed.
4. When it works correctly boot into recovery and then restore your CWM Nandroid backup and viola your done
5. Boot up - NB: You will notice you have no reception until you run the script in script manager.
You set on moot the script to run and in ICS it seems to work better than on JVT (where I had to initiate the script even after checking the onboot function).

Nova Launcher! Yeeeew finally a replacement. ****s on the standard launcher, can make GOSMS my sms app in the dock setup just how I always wanted it. Go Launcher Ex fails big time on ICS so don't bother installing it (even though I love it) the animations on GO Launcher cause big time crashing hahaha test for ya self for LOLs
You will ditch the stock launcher in an instant once your on this. It allows resizing of widgets and app draw also has widget draw like standard launcher.

Ice cream sandwich clock download from market. It looks like the clock in the pictured icon of the clock....not the gay looking analog clock that comes with it that I tried for ages to work out how to change the skin when you can't.
Haven't got a link for it atm but its in the Market so just download from there.

Whats the difference? I am running a tweaked version of MyUI ICS ROM on my Phone and freakin rocks!
The MyUI version of the ICS ROM based off OneCosmic's RC 2.11.
- List of Mods. 1% increments on the battery using the similar style to Perka's MOD of Elin ROM ICS. Uses the ICS font for numerals upto 100 and has blue lightning bolt whilst charging.
- Uses Nova Launcher and Glitch Kernel but with the nice white standard Google boot image and tweaked Boot animation as well.
-Center Date in notification dropdowm menu
Drop box is here:

I think there is, u need to search in settings of the phone.
Thanks alot, Ive been looking for swype and a good and proper replacement launcher!
swype thread link broken?
didnt find a way to disable vibration on lock screen. if you disable haptic feedback in settings, it still vibrates.
furthermore, the vibration on haptic feedback is very high and not configureable.. thats annoying. disabled it, using now a keyboard with custom vibration length (htc_ime mod, yeah - still running under ics)

That one doesn't work after i tested it. The look of it is nice but the apk is made for a much bigger phone. It stretches too wide for the screen lol.
I went back to FlexT9 keyboard. By far the best swype out there that I have ever used. I keep deviating but I keep returning back to that old faithful hahaha. The issue with ICS is that it won't let you over ride the standard ICS keyboard to use anything other than native. So you need to freeze the keyboard apps with Titanium Backup. Then install the keyboard of your choice...in my case FlexT9. then I go and remove the apks from system/app like LatinIME and any associations with the standard keyboard, dictionary etc and put them in a folder on my SD card for "just-in-case"....cause that Justin bloke has saved me on many occasions lol.
I managed to use SwiftKey X without any problem - I do not need to freeze the stock ics keyboard apps.
i guess u knw wt i have done ..
You've found my very very very old thread that I started when ICS only first came to SGS...hahah
This is a theme which is a mix between Dbilliters Naked Simplicity theme and the Blue Miui theme from Donhu (which is based on ZDuneX25's Miui theme ). I have also added some stuff as well, mainly transparent settings background. This is kind of a WIP, and it's not as locked as ICS, so if there is something you want me to add or change, tell me and I will see if I find it suiting for the theme
Install instructions
1) Place zip on SD
2) Boot into recovery
3) Wipe cache and dalvik
4) Flash zip
5) Reboot
Changelog:
13/1: Initial release
16/1: Fixed blank screen issues, changed buttons layout, added compact version.
16/1: Reverted to old buttons as I messed up something with the new ones.
Thanks to:

Hey what is the icon beside the cell signal icon? I've seen it before somewhere but was slightly confused by it's state(s). Example, ON/OFF state for whatever it is.

Edit3: No it isn't? *Rage* Removed the compact one, the normal one seems to work.
Boot loop. Same as with your ICS theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23726976#post23726976).
Well, are you using this rom? The themes only work for this rom, not any froyo rom, i specified it in the ICS theme OP at least
Aaah, right. That explains it. The funny thing is that I read that in the OP. Sorry, the mistake was mine.
Why it can't work on Decked X when you are using it on your HabaDecked which is basicly Goku's Decked?
Ash, I forgot to add to Op. I change roms all.the time. Now I'm using VE and when I made this theme I was using FroYo ;-) and I don't do any themes for gb because there already are so many

Everything seems to be working just fine! Only problem is that when you apply themes the icons are HUGE, unlike on MIUIv4 which shows them just fine and also on the latest MIUIv4 for x10 mini HDPI lockscreens work. Is this stuff something Stelios added or is it something new for ICS/MIUv4? It would be great if this stuff could be added.
Anyway great work!
Thanks for your comments liking them already.

Yes thats because Miui Gb themes are HDPI we have LDPI.
Some ldpi lockscreens. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394968
You need to extract the icons from the .mtz then resize them with a image batch resizer, i use faststone photo resizer and will do some when I get chance.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Thanks scratch. I need help with resizing what needs resizing if you get my meaning. I can get the apps that has been requested in the next rom but framework work etc i don't know how to do if you could help or point me in the right direction i'd be happy.
At the moment at least we have a working base rom that can be modded further to improve on. It wasn't a easy port i can tell you.
I still have errors about java I/O exceptions etc to fix the works.
Also i am thinking of adding G-apps to the rom too so any help from anyone will be handy and credits will be given.
Errrmmmm........
Resizing the framework is a little tricky just about everything I did on the last miui gb rom broke it, I'm new to all this resizing stuff too + don't have that much spare time to sit in front of the computer, 3 kids to look after (I only started looking into resizing when miui came around for us) it doesn't seem too bad though a few menus in some apps have been out of place but nothing serious, the launcher was quite simple as I had the v4 launcher which had already been mostly resized to copy values from, this is by far much better than the last port and I'm sure it will get even better, this is my new daily rom for sure and I'll share everything I find or do to it successfully without a doubt.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Thanks so we are in the same boat how are you resizing the apps i have plenty of free time next week so if i get some pointers on what to do i can then start work on it.
Personally i would like every to take note this is not all my work i have noticed my thanks count going up and i am flattered but i really do not deserve the thanks i am only helping out.
Next we need to sort a kernel as well and make a few changes to the system area as some of the CM7 tweaks no longer work so removing them will help out as well.
Force Closes need fixing and so does the java i/o issues.
I am thinking on the next update to include a datasd script to increase the internal memory size need peoples views on this as well.
Whats needed on the bootanimation to be done.

Dud3me this is a Gingerbread versoin and not ICS nothing from the ICS Miui has been added to this version. I however have noticed that ICS version hasn't been updated in awhile hence the Gingerbread version as we have CM7 running ok on our Wildfires it was a logic move.

I'm aware that this is a gingerbread version...
And yes it's great that we have MIUI gb because gingerbread has, as stated earlier, almost everything working. I'm just saying that on the ICS version you CAN use hdpi lockscreen themes due to milocke/lockscreen thing RESIZING them to fit our screen. Also it resizes the icons so they're not huge (not perfect though). And when the theme doesn't have icon for a app it gives them this weird square which is supposed to be the background (see attachment). I was just wondering if it's possible to get these features on gb as well in the future.
Really appreciate your efforts and these "bugs" are just minor issues!
Bootanimation is 320x480 so it's just a little bit bigger than it should be, that's an easy fix though and if you haven't done it before me I'll do it and post a link, the other miui camera works perfectly so I'd just switch to that one, forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000445 There's the link if anyone wants a quick fix.
The system apps seem to fit ok for me, just a few menus are messed up in some apps, I'll get some screenies to show you.

Didn't notice that bud. Your icons seem a lot bigger then what i have. whats the DPI set in the build.prop

Hello!
I am getting a little into flashing my N7000 and so far I have travelled from rooting, to upgrading to the latest official Note ROM that was released in another country than mine, to SuperNExus to most recently Slim Bean
I am missing a couple of the original apps from the stock ROM (latest one I used was "XXLSZ_Stock_deodexed_rooted_eybee1970")
Apparently, just copying them out from the ZIP file and trying to install them isn't the right way to do.
Among others, I need
* S Note
* The app/function that knows when I plug in my headset and it shows that whole new page
* Dialer
* Keyboard with the digits on top
* Clock / Alarm clock
* S Planner Calendar
Most important is that I want to learn more and understand the main problem.
So copying wasn't the right way.
I have a feeling (based on fragments that I read here and there) that flashing might be the right way, file-permissions and stuff.
If I am on the right track - is there any software/tool that creates a flashable file for me? I have been rooting around inside the ZIP files and I understand some of the ideas, the update-script and so. But trying to make one own from scratch is too hard right now.
Another problem I had once, was the pointer image. Previously, it was a nice little circle. Then at some point (maybe the Nexus ROM) it became a classical window-arrow. I managed to understand how to open an APK, switch out the PNG file and so on. But since I didn't know how to flash in just that APK, I had to flash in the whole ROM from scratch.
I assume that such tool I am asking about previously would have been the solution.
Beside that, I would like to know if anyone knows if there is an original-app-pack for Note already. I need to know the answer for above as well though
Thanks in advance!

I installed SuperNexus ROM and after that Slim Bean.
They both had that nice lock screen where you could swipe to bring forth the camera.
What is this lock screen called? I need that so that I can search for info about it.
Among the questions I have now are
* If I change to pattern instead of slide, I loose the ability to have shortcuts. Is there any other way to have shortcuts and pattern?
* When I swipe to the left, I see a + and I can add widgets. However, I can only add one widget and no ability to rescale the widget or anything. Is there a way to add more widgets per page or modifying the widget that is there already, like rescaling it?
Thanks!
The Samsung apps like Snote and Splanner will not work on the non-touchwiz custom roms like supernexus or slimbean. So if you want those apps you will have to flash a TW (touchwiz based) ROM like the alliance ROM. The other features like pagebuddy and the keyboard with digits on top will also be available only in the TW ROMs (you can search apps for the keyboard and pagebuddy and you may find them)

The lockscreen you are talking about is the 4.2 lock screen with lock screen shortcuts. It is a feature of Android 4.2 only. And no u do not have an option for shortcuts on the pattern lock or any of the other secure ways. But you may add a widget for the app on the lock screen clicking on the '+' symbol. And i had read about adding multiple widgets on one page of the lock screen but didn't come across with anything useful then. You can give it a try now.

What does it mean, "touchwiz based ROM". I have seen other terms, "X"-based ROM (maybe CM-based or other terms).
Is touchwiz so much more than just a launcher?

Thank you - this led me to the right direction. Sometimes you just don't know what is a native Android feature and what is a custom one
Well TW ROMs are touchwiz based ROMs. If you look out for the ROMs repository for the note, you'll notice the categories are TW based JB ROM etc. When u see the name of a rom, if there is [TW] written before it's name, it is a touchwiz based ROM. And touchwiz is not just a launcher. Touchwiz is the samsung customised version of Android like the sense UI by htc.

Okay, I understand better now.
I am assuming that you are a Note user. Can you give me your opinion on the difference, if there are any, between a TW based, or others, beside compatibility of a selection of apps and so. Is there any real, big, important difference?
And one more thing. When the term "custom ROM" is used, is that what is meant by it? A custom ROM is per automatic not the original TW in the Galaxy Note case? Or does it mean something else?
The difference between a TW ROM and a non TW ROM like a CM based ROM is in the features. TW ROMs use the stock Samsung created touchwiz roms as a base and build up on that. So u can find the stock apps and everything else with some customisations. Whereas the CM based ROMs are built upon the CyanogenMod which is in many ways similar to the original Android os available on the Google nexus. A custom ROM is a customised ROM developed by a developer. The other type of ROM is the stock ROM which you get preinstalled on your note. So all the ROMs you'll get on xda are custom ROMs developed by certain developer.
