Hi, I'm thinking of changing my SGS3 LTE for the HTC One. What's the dev support like? It seems a little slow? The main reason I want to move from SGS3 LTE is due to slow support from dev community and Samsung not playing nicely with the XDA dev community. Are things better with the HTC One? Also, how is the phone's performance and what is stock like (also, rooted stock variants)? Is CM10.1 stable? And battery life? I'm keen for some feedback from you guys, the user base! I'm choosing between the HTC One and The Xperia Z.. just gotta change this SGS3 LTE asap!
You are in the right forum..... Do some reading.... Decide it.... But imho... Htc one is the only one..

Ya exactly. There is a wealth of information out there, if one chooses to look for it.
Bottom line: the One is the best phone out at the moment. It is quite an upgrade over last year's flagship phones (save for the camera).

Hi, thanks. Yes there is a wealth of information. But that's not what I'm asking. I want to know what the XDA support is like? That is the most nb thing for me? My choice between the HTC One and Xperia Z is probably gonna come down to XDA dev support.. there's minimal/ok support on the SGS3 LTE and it taught me a valuable lesson.. check with the XDA community first! it's the only way to get the real story..

You asked a number of things. As far as dev support goes, it looks pretty decent so far. I hear that Sony supports devs better than most companies, so it may be better there.
The best thing you can do is look in the associated forums here on xda and decide for yourself which dev-community you believe will be the best for you.
Would help if someone here also has experience with the Xperia.
*edit* trump card might be that there is a GE One. That could bring even more devs onto the One side.

Yeah thanks guys. I think it's pretty clear to me that the HTC One is a superior phone and has excellent support from XDA dev community

Do you like the phone? That should answer your question on whether to return it or not.
First off, this question should be in the general section as there is no "Development" going on in it.
Second, Overall, the Thrill is a great phone with Amazing potential when Gingerbread is finally released. When ICS is released, even better. I still feel that when Gingerbread hits, there will be a lot more development going on as no one wants to develop for Eclair since it will be updated in less than a month (hopefully).
With the tri-dual technology, this thing could demolish the SGS2 if given the correct software.
Yes, more development is going on over in the SGS2 forums, so you have a tough decision to make my friend.
Ya I'm a flashaholic, so seeing this forum without very much development on roms is the only thing making me second guess my purchase, the phone itself on the other hand is a very nice piece of machinery...i mean i love the phone even in its stock form...but like i said im a flashaholic and love just tinkering with my phone...not a developer at all : / though I wish i were. I'm coming from a Mytouch 4G which I had sense 3.5 Android 2.3.5...so its just a whole new world to me I guess..

Hey man, good stuff! I've been a developer for years, but just getting into Android dev as of late. Good luck with the Sense 4 stuff.

I was thinking about this too. Where does one learn? As in, what are some good books to buy on the subject? Thanks in advance.

Depends entirely on what your experience is. There's a big difference between learning to cook having never cooked a thing in your life, and learning to cook French cuisine if you're already a master sushi chef.
I'll play it safe and say I've never cooked a thing in my life, but my dad is also a system engineer and could help if I needed it. I'd rather learn without his help.

Start with an RUU. Run the RUU on your PC. Stop at the first screen after it's done loading, don't proceed, but don't close the window. Start/Run and type %TEMP% and hit enter (this will take you to your user temp folder). Sort the folders by date and open the newest. Here you should find Rom.zip. Use this as your base ROM in the kitchen. Root it, deodex it (or not), zipalign it, etc - and you end up with a flashable ROM from an RUU
The HTC ONE is s-on for now..
But any ideas, if it will get s-off anytime?
Because the developer version is s-on too.. I heard devs like koush ( from rom manager ) wanted to maintain the device for CM.. but they are not sure about the s-off status.. what is your take on this?
Shall we write to @htcusa @htc and @htcdev about this?
Thanks!
most qualcomm devices will get s-off
I thought the Dev Version was already S-off? Damn.
But since it's a qualcomm device, and a phone that is sort of a "MUST HACK" device for devs and a "MUST HAVE" device for consumers, then I believe S-off for the One wouldn't take too long Just my 2 cents..

yeah... the htc one x was a tegra device and honestly it has so many glaring issues in the beginning like the battery life while the One manages to fix most of them making this a great phone for many more consumers and even developers as Samsung have now pissed off most of the good developers... codeworx is also getting the device which is amazing news.

The battery life of the One X at launch was PURELY just software, these days most of us get more than 4.5+ hours of screen on, even my S3 couldn't achieve that, lol.
Anyways, going back on topic, I think I read somewhere that the One already has S-off! I'm not sure if it was a dream or if it really was true but I'll do my best to find it again.

Yeah that's why I said that the One X had issues like the battery life 'in the beginning'.
Hi guys. Have gone back quite a few threads in here so apologies if this has already been asked.
I am coming up to the magic upgrade date and am very keen on the One. I have been on xda for nearly 2 years now and know that this community is the dog's and you guys can help me out. I know it all comes down to personal preference, but seeing as you have had the phone for a few months now can anyone give me any comments, likes or dislikes or reviews on the phone? I am asking the same question on the xperia z page as torn between the two. As you can see from my sig I'm using an ICS right now. I don't really play games, look and build quality is important as is the camera and battery life. How does the camera live up to other phones out there right now?
Peace out.

Hi Guys
Its been 2.5 years on a journey with my Incredible S and Finally I moved on coz of battery and Housing issues.. Its been legendary on this forum for seeing such an awesome development starting from Gingerbread to all the way to KitKat. This has been my first Android Phone and I learnt all the terminologies of Rooting, Bootloader and cfw's Thanks to my Incredible S for that
Being a HTC FanBoy, I took the HTC One M7 and Mahn thats one awesome phone There are already lots of Roms there and hope to see like Incredible S
Finally Thanks to Nik and @szezso for their awesome dedication to this forum..
I may not be a significant person here.. but I made one significant contribution to this forum I was the one who first suggested that Nik Can donate the Incredible S that ws given to him to to @szezso (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45797657&postcount=418) which inturn led to idea of donating the Incredible S by one of members.. Kit Kat was impossible without that donation by that legendary member
At last.. Bye People.. I will still be a regular to this forum but I am gonna Bookmark HTC One Page now

I also moved on, bought an Xperia Z1 Compact because of hardware and size. Build qualiti is nothing compared to HTC. My One Mini i had for busines - i also loved it. I gave it to my mom to make her happy after she struggled with Xcover for years... XD
For my IncS i ordered some repair parts to use it as backup phone.
