[Q] Unlocking Motorola Droid Bionic SIM Card - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hello, I am in desperate need of unlocking my Bionic. I'm out of the United States and cannot get an unlock code for the bionic from Verizon. I have no service and I can't figure how to unlock the darn thing (for free at least). I've tried online searching but can't find what I'm looking for. May someone please help?

I've been searching myself for a bit now too, I can't find a solution that works for me. I have limited internet access here and the catch 22 is I would have better internet access if I could get GSM+Data working on my Droid. From what I understand some files need to be edited with RadioComm, however thus far I have been unsuccessful in getting RadioComm to connect to my phone. There's a bunch of threads out there with info, the problem is though that it is taking me a long time to sift through them as I'm tethered with a jailbroken iPhone 1 running on the Edge network.

No, there is no solution available at the moment. A couple of people have been able to persuade ATT to give them codes after many days of phone calls and support chat. A few have had some varying success with turbo sims that supposedly fool the phone into thinking the sim is an ATT sim, but that's it.
based on what I have read online. ATT often will unlock your phone when you are in the contract for like 6 months or a year.
I called them with my tilt 2 about a year into my contract. Tell them that I am traveling oversea and want to use the phone internationally. They gave me the code without much hassle.
Not sure if this is partially due to the fact I have been with ATT for years.
Online search also shows that ATT will often unlock almost all smartphoen for you except iPhone, so keep try them and if the CSR does not help, ask for supervisor.

The official requirements are:
1. at least 90 days into a contract
2. Have a post paid account with contract
3. Paid all bills on time.

Captivate has proven to be an exception to this. There is already a long thread about Sim Unlock. The bottom line is AT&T won't give you a unlock code for Captivate until 10 months later.

Hi jentech
have read the whole thread "SIM unlock" till yet and have not a good feeling when my captivate will arrive to contact AT&T for the unlock code.
I never has been a AT&T customer cause living outside the US and won´t be to become one so hope they could understand my problem...
Do you have an email contact for their support-center?

If you're not an AT&T customer, they typically won't help you with unlock at all. Good luck.
Not sure why there is another unlock thread, but At&T told me they would. Unlock in 90 days. I have no reason to doubt them.

unlock Captivate with froyo
today i unlocked my captivate with an app called Galaxy S Unlock get it in the market very easy to do also on youtube i am running froyo 2.2, version I897ucji6 and i am rooted (need to be rooted)
Finally got the captivate to unlock and accept the tmobile sim today. Everything seems to be working fine so far. No data on the plan but using wifi til I add data. One thing I'm really curious about is.... Now that the phone is unlocked and working, If I flash a custom rom (say cognition for example) will I lose the "unlock" ?
*edit* forgot to say how I did it... I just simply flashed back to stock 2.1, master cleared, rooted, installed busybox and galaxy unlock app, used the #2 method with the unlock app and it worked. PATIENCE IS KEY! ===> It takes a good 2-4 minutes for the tmobile signal to kick in so it may seem as if the unlock failed but it just takes alot longer than the at&t signal to kick in.

Milestone/XT on AT&T

Do any of the Milestones (XT701, XT720, Milestone) work with AT&T 3G data? AT&T is 850mhz but I get confused about it.

The A853 from Telus Canada works on AT&T. Obviously have to get it unlocked. The only major issue is that AGPS doesn't work out of the box, you have to root it and change a couple files. Other than that, I love showing iphoneys how much better AT&T is with a good phone.
I have been using a Telus Milestone (Canada) on AT&T for about 7 months. The AGPS file does need to be updated to reflect googles GPS info instead of Telus'. If you look at getting a Telus Milestone from Ebay, be advised you will be spending around $300 to $400 dollars US. But in my mind totally worth it. I get a mielstone without a contract ( I am on a month to month now since my contract expired roughly 2 years ago) and a unlimited data plan for $15 a month as AT&T does not know what phone I have. If you do get a Milestone for AT&T look in the Android Market for a program called Universal Androot, its free and is a one click easy root program, works awesome. If you need the AGPS file for AT&T settings I have it backed up and can send it to you. All you would have to do is save it to your SDcard and just copy and paste to the appropriate file folders on your phone using a file browser from the market and root access. Let us know how it goes and if you need help I have found XDA to be an invaluable source of good info and help.

so with this Androot software would help me unlock the phone to use it with AT&T
Sorry for the confusion. Universal androot will only root your phone, unlock the operating system to allow you to make changes to it. Having your phone unlocked to allow it to work on another cell phone provide, art, T-Mobile, etc, is different. You can do a google searh to unlock. For example I just typed in the above and got this place:
http://www.unlockallcellular.com/motorola-milestone-droid-unlock-code-p-45931.html
I do not know if this site is any good. I wanted to show an example of what to look for. I hope my explanation has been good enough to help out. Let us know his it goes and if you need more help just ask.

5 starz to you JGregory, that website is really good, by the next day i got my unlock code and now im able to use my Milestone XT720!!!
One more question, if I use a Telus Milestone on AT&T, will I still be able to get the OTA froyo update in 2011? Thanks
You will still be able to get the update. I dont know for sure if you will get a notification on your phone. Best bet would be to keep an eye out for any news. When the update does get release, probably best to download the update and install it from your phones SDcard. But as I have not received an update since I hacked my phone I dont know for sure how you will get the notice of it, other then just following up on the status. Sorry to have missed your question. Hope this still helps you out.

New user droid 3 xt862 - assistance

Hello guys, I just goot this device used from someone in the US. It is locked on GSM, but rooted.
At this I am most interested in getting it unlocked and explore further which is, learning bootstrapping, changing recovery and loading custom roms.
I spoke to Verizon extensively today and was told, they wouldn't be able to give me the unlock code unless it was activated on the network. After a long conversation, the global support team suggested that if I know someone in the US on the Verizon network, what could possibly be done is activating this phone on their current contract, right away share the unlock code and move the Verizon user to their previous phone. All on one call, with a feww minutes? Do Verizon users or with similar experience share their insight, if this would work out with getting an unlock code from them?
I don't really want to go through the idea of finding someone, going through the call and finding out, the person I spoke to was mistaken about all this possible on a single call..
Any other ways to unlock the phone? I don't like the idea of paying money to a website for the unlock code and possibly the code not working, with no refunds.
I've already spent on the phone with the risk of not ever being able to unlock it.
I know, there are threads with unlocking info, but a lot of users I realized were still unable to unlock their phones.
Looking forward to expert insights, and thanks a load everyone!
Cheers.

To add, I am not physically in the US, neither is the phone. Phones GSM bands are apparently compatible with the GSM networks in my country.
Thanks!

Unfortuanlty that is the only way to unlock an xt862. Unless it has never been activated on verizons network. As I understand it verizon changes the sim unlock code upon first activation. Even if that is the case you will still need a code from an unlock site(or possibly your nearest cell repair store)

Ok. Unlock4Moto.com is where I am currently planning to purchase it from - they don't have specific verizon codes, but motorola xt862 in general.
Really really hoping, that verizon didn't change the lock code during its few months of activation.
Scared now of not having to use the device as only a PDA..
Thanks for the response.
Can others also pls share their experiences, thanks!

Ya if its been activated previously the code from unlock4moto will probably fail. In addition if you have too many fails the phone will go into susbsidy lock(or something similar) and will need a PUK(personal unlock code) from verizon to even be functional. You could try just calling verizon repeatedly and explain your perdicament to a new agent each time until you find one that will just give you the sim unlock code. I do believe that it needs to be connected to verizons network at the time though there are several threads of ppl who have had this same problem. Its pretty ****ty. I might recommend selling it and getting the xt860 model. Its easier to unlock and is also global GSM.

That really sounds crappy :-( I do although plan to buy one and see what happens. Just hoping, I am lucky. Else, I will trt and resort to finding someone from verizon to help me with the situation.
In regards to selling it, I purchased the phone in the us with a friends address almost a month back, and received it in hand just today. Really wouldn't want to sell it yet or thar I might not even find a buyer for a locked phone in my country.
Tough situation I am in, thanks though and wish me luck!

You can bypass the Verizon setup by tapping the four corners of the setup window. At least this will make the phone useable.
That would make the phone usable as a PDA (wifi only), but I think he mentioned that wasn't his goal. Still good info to have while waiting for unlock though.
OP, the phone definitely needs to be activated on a Verizon account temporarily so it can communicate with their system for unlock code to work. Maybe you can place an ad on craigslist offering some money or something similar. People have nothing to lose by helping you if they don't have a global phone or if they never travel outside the US. If they've already done it before, I believe they have to wait ten months before they can unlock another phone on their line. Just fyi.
Good luck!

Ahh here's another catch then. But I guess, someone who doesn't travel out might be willing.
Btw, just a quick question, so like the support person told me that I can get the phone activated on Verizon without the phone having to be physically in the US, can someone confirm that's possible?
Also, while at it, if someone on XDA is willing to help me with the situation, it would be awesome! I don't mind looking at the option of a monetary incentive for the assistance.
Thanks!

True-ish
Having been through the SIM unlock route myself, here is what I found out. The Droid3 Sim unlock code modification is presented in the first Over The Air (OTA) update. And it doesn't effectively change the code. It adds a modified algorithm to the existing code which has to match up to the one they provide you with. Just like an md5 sum would be incorrect if anything is missing or altered. If the phone is or is returned to the original software that came on the phone (i.e. SBF / Fastboot / Flash) then this algorithm is not present in the firmware and thus the code you recieve from a third party vendor should work. I would surf around and find a trusted source with a strong reputation. When you find a company that states they can do it for you then ask them what their success rate is with the Droid 3 in particular.
As far as the subsidy lock......mine was just like the droid 2 global, when I tried too many attempts it subsidy locked on me ( I was trying different variations that I found in different areas of RadioComm to see if I could circumvent the system, finally gave up). I didn't touch it and let it sit on the subsidy lock request screen for about an hour and it asked me again for the sim unlock code. I finally got the right code through my inderect agent rep and voila. Hope this helps. I've been unlocking a rack of Droid2 and 3 for myself and friends lately, so if any of the information provided is cross-device (I sometimes get confused) then hopefully a guru will correct me. But this is to the best of my recollection.
If you haven't succeeded in about a week I'll be having my acct transferred from an employee line to a consumer acct and I can help you with swapping it to my service briefly and getting in touch with global support. Just pm me or send a message to my gmail - same username queberican351
take care and best of luck

Hey thanks for the info. All of it made lots of sense. So at this point i am hoping that the OTA update didnt happen on device in its lifetime with the first owner although I am almost sure its highly unlikely.
I am currently most inclined towards unlock4moto.com for the code, hoping it works out.
Regarding flashing the OS version to the factory default version, I will try learning how to flash the roms on this device since I think the way to flash roms on motorolas are pretty different to other phones.
And thanks, really really appreciate the offer of helping me out if I don't succeed in a week.
Thanks!
P.s. first message on xda using the droid 3 (in airplane mode), wonderful phone!

Good news guys. The code from unlock4moto.com worked perfectly.
This makes me think that Verizon doesn't change the code on their network, because the phone was used for a couple months on their network prior to being detached from their network.
But there's another sad news too, which is, right after being unlocked I had to give it to my sister.. So I guess I will stick around to my Desire Z for another while.
Thanks everyone who helped me get my direction right and opted to help me, cheers!

[Q] Unlock my Bionic

I'm looking for some help unlocking my motorola droid bionic. it's currently got the newest jelly bean software update, and it is locked to verizon. I am trying to unlock it to switch to another carrier. Can someone please help getting this unlocked?
That's a tall order. The Bionic doesn't actually have a carrier lock. Verizon uses a different type of network than most carriers (CDMA instead of GSM). It is possible to change the settings, but it involves connecting your phone to a Windows computer via USB, rooting it, and changing some RadioComm settings. Bricking is a strong possibility. I would recommend simply buying a new phone, perhaps an unlocked Nexus. If you're still interested, the necessary steps are scattered around several forums.. (I should probably make a complete guide sometime, but I'm kind of lazy.)
There are a few threads that might help...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50098080
That last one mentions another one that is probably more helpful for you. It looks like this will do pretty much exactly what you're wanting to do. Hope that helps!

[Q]Used phone activation on locale carrier, carrier requesting spc code.

Hello,
I have a couple of questions, that I'm hoping can be fixed so I can finally retire my HTC Dinc.
Upon purchasing the Sprint variant of the HTC ONE I made sure my carrier uses the exact model, so I got a used black colored one.
Anyways, i brought the phone in for activation waited a few hours for the tech person to come into work and a few mintues later they informed me i need an spc code to unlock the phone so he can program it. Ive been reading lots of threads about spc codes/unlocking and stuff but t always mentions msl, is msl and spc the same thing in regards to unlocking something.
My carrier uses cdma for its devices, are these sim unlock tuts what im looking for in order to activate my phone?.
What ive done so far however has been a failure, ive tried calling sprint, no go. Ive also tried the no root, no calling sprint mother that failed also*I was a public PC and its running xp maybe it failed cause of that* .
Right now the device is with a shop that does unlocking phones and I've link him to the methods I've tried, but he says it won't work with the 4.3 ota. He also mentions he would ha e to downgrade to 4.2 in order to unlock.
To sum it all up in a nutshell, does obtaining the spc/msl code in fact enable my carrier to activate the phone?
Also do these methods mention above only work on 4.2 and below?
Its been about a week since I've received the phone and my dinc is really starting to show its age, and would like a breath of fresh air.
Thanks in advance!!

In that case I wonder why hes saying about needing to downgrade cause the guide is for before 4.3 or something. I don't think hes doing it right IMO and I also think I can just do it myself.
The sim unlock link is a good read, it has steps to downgrading and all that which has got me wondering, if I do it, will I be able to use lte. I know this is an HTC one thread but this idea got me thinking, ATM there is only one phone on my carrier that does 4g lte which is the LG AS840 and I've checked the specs of it and the One and they match freqs for the lte side of things, what I'm saying is that will my carrier be able to make the lte function like with the LG AS840 device, if so then awesome if not oh well. What would make it NOT work with One, my carrier using phones from various stateside vendors, I wonder what they did to make the lte work on the LG AS840.
Anyways if the person has no luck then i will try and do it myself *save $50 in the process as well*.
Thanks again!!

If they are reprogramming your phone to work with another CDMA carrier then the SIM unlock will probably not help. Also you probably won't be able to do it yourself. I say probably because i've never seen it NOT done but I haven't seen anyone doing it either. It is a global phone so most people are sim unlocking to use it over seas. The thread I linked regarding SIM unlocking has an RUU that will bring you back down to 4.1 which is the initial software release when the phone first came out. That should be sufficient. Send him a direct link to that file and see if he can use it. It's just a simple program that does everything on it's own. Remember though the process will completely wipe your phone and internal sdcard.

Hello,
I have a couple of questions, that I'm hoping can be fixed so I can finally retire my HTC Dinc.
Thanks in advance!!

your SPC is the same as MSL, It is a security code used by carriers to enable some settings to be changed in the phone, your SPC/MSL is easily obtainable using software, I use CDMA workshop for stuff like that because it is very easy, there is other software that will read it for you but I think root is required, whoever the carrier of the phone is will also be able to provide it to you.

But does he HAVE to downgrade the device to obtain the no root, no calling sprint way to get the msl code? Cause what I'm seeing is that there is no need to downgrade or root to get the msl code*this is what i need to activate the device and possibly save $50* , money aside though if he does it great, but ive been waiting a bit since I received the phone.
Again thanks for your time.

Yea you're right. He shouldn't need to downgrade to get the MSL. If all he needs is the MSL then no downgrade needed.
How about the use of 4g lte?
It baffles me that my carrier has it in the as840 device, will I be able to utilize it with the One or my mileage may vary?
So it turns out he was unable to downgrade, he says he tried every method he can. I don't think he has the right info on the table tbh, I will try tkmorrow when I have access to a PC. Makes me laugh a little inside, he's the GO TO guy for stuff, while I'm the GO TO guy at work for stuff like this*sorry for the ranting*.
Thanks again!!
Edit/update.
Through the msl thread someone posted a .apk file of msl utility.
Good news: the app installed and it DID show me the msl code.
Bad news*sorta*: I won't be able to check if the code works, if its even the right code. In other words I don't know the credibility of the app itself.
*crosses fingers* when I go to activate the phone.
