As we all know, HTC has made one of the best displays and paired it with some of the best color calibration on this phone. However, from DisplayMate testing they alter the color of the image.
Is there any chance a custom kernel could get rid of this?

Could be my imagination but on the GE ROMs the color seems to be more consistent and vibrant, and whites seem more natural.
Maybe its disabled there?
Going nuts with all the observations I do on a daily basis on different ROMs and kernels

Didnt know I get a new panel by flashing a ROM Sweet deal....
I had the TrickDroid GE ROM on my device yesterday and the color reproduction seemed a little different compared to Sense ... That's what I meant ^^

Is it possible to port the color reproduction/drivers from GE ROMs to Sense?

I am very confused over which icons are which. I am planning to switch to Serendipity, but it's icon set is a bit confusing to me (among other issues, such as being unable to flash on this computer.)
I would like it to stay as close to Stock as possible like Perception, but the notifications confuse me. I think Serendipity may not be the right Rom for me...
What, pray tell, is confusing?
All the icons I chose are AOSP. Same as if you had, say, CM installed.
Sent from my Captivate.
AOSP? What is confusing is different ROMs have different Notification Icons and Themes. I just want to know what Perception uses so the next ROM I get I can use those. I am also curious to see if they are custom or if they are stock.
I know I can extract them or something, I'll try and figure that out later.
hey
Bumping this for information.

Android Open Source Project.
As in, the REAL Android. Not some hobbled-together piece of crap from Samsung.
I need more information. Is there, like a ROM of ASOP for Captivate? Or pictures so I can see the icons? I did see at the ATT store today that pretty much everyone uses different icons.

Google "AOSP". You'll find plenty.
Hi all,
I'm thinking about trying out Sabsa Prime, since I'm curious about Sense 4.1. (I've only been using Sense 3.6 roms up until now). I noticed that the settings menus have black text on a white background, which from what I've read is standard in Sense 4.x . Is there any way to change the menus in Sense 4.1 so they'll have white text on a black background, like in Sense 3.6 or CM?
I think if you flash Viper you can change that with a theme but you probably have to cook that yourself But it's very likely possible.

Ah ok. Just thought I'd ask. I might try 4.1 anyway without trying to change it. Who knows, it might grow on me. Thanks for the info.

You should really try it I think the white one looks better anyway But that's taste not a fact...
Hi all,
I'm coming from and SGSII and I'm in the process of trying to setup my One how I like it. There's a few things troubling me though.
-The blacks of the screen don't seem especially black and it seems there's no way to adjust the contrast. The whole screen seems a bit flat/grey
-The menus are black text on white, I much prefer the white on black of the SII
-The scroll 'brakes' too quickly as your finger comes off the screen, it's like sliding something on sandpaper as opposed to ice. There's no 'mega scroll' flick
-I've had to download a task manager killer but I cannot end google+, gmail and googlemaps. I don't want them.
-The icons on my SII are a lot better
-I'd like the notification bar to be black
-On the SII I have gps switched off but weather apps still work, with the HTC gps has to be on.
-I'm going to have to root this phone to get adfree aren't?
I'm using nova launcher so a lot of things are similar but those things above are really bugging me. I've googled all of them and had no luck so let me know if I'm missing anything.
Thanks.
I didn't read your whole post but to get white text on black you are going to have to go with an inverted Rom, like d3rp or 42One I am sure there are others but those two come to mind.

Thanks, I might hold off on rooting for a while.
The main thing I wanted to check was that I wasn't missing an obvious settings and that the screen was working properly, it's VERY flat and grey compared to my SII.
Overall it's doing a good job but the screen is going to have to take some getting used to.

This is the difference between AMOLED and LCD. The contrast on the One is pretty much the best available on a phone LCD, but it is still an LCD, and cannot match the black levels of AMOLED.
-The menus are black text on white, I much prefer the white on black of the SII
The menus on the SII are white on black because white is a very expensive color to display, battery-wise, on an AMOLED screen. Inverted roms, or themes, will fix this for you.
-The scroll 'brakes' too quickly as your finger comes off the screen, it's like sliding something on sandpaper as opposed to ice. There's no 'mega scroll' flick
Depends on the app you're using. If you're speaking about within Sense (settings, app drawer, etc) then yeah I guess, but I'm not sure why you would need the long scrolling in such short lists.
-I've had to download a task manager killer but I cannot end google+, gmail and googlemaps. I don't want them.
Uninstall/disable them via settings>apps or kill them with an app.

You had to root your S2 to get that too.

Thanks for taking the time, much appreciated. Much as I feared the about the screen. It's a shame, I do really like OLED. Those are the two big things now, the screen and lack of centre button. It's stupid because most apps now have a black bar at the bottom which takes up about 10% of the screen for the 'options' button. A button would be much better. If it had those two things it would be the perfect phone in my eyes.
Makes sense about the menus, I checked out the 42One rom and it looks pretty good. I spent yesterday getting everything set up so I'm going to wait to root and flash.
The scroll/flick behaviour is a bit different but some lists do have a 'mega-scroll' so that was me I guess, I'd still prefer it if it was a bit looser.
I found the only option was to disable certain apps, I guess I won't be able to get into removing stuff until I root the phone.
Maybe I should have said i don't like the stock icons, I still prefer the SII one but have since downloaded some icon packs so we're all good there.
On my journeys I saw someone had written a little program to guide you through rooting your phone so I'll have to find that again. I'd also like to backup my stock setup in case of warranty issues further down the line.
Thanks again.

You can use the HTC Logo as menu button. But you'd need a custom kernel that supports that.
AMOLED displays are usually very over saturated compared to IPS LCD displays. But IPS will give you a more accurate color and truer whites and blacks.

The HTC logo doesn't have a capacitive sensor, the "logo button" feature actually uses the first row of pixels immediately above the logo as a button.
Not trying to attack anyone here, just want to make sure that the information is explained a bit more.

Yep, it's the tradeoff you made when you picked LCD.
If its any consolation, displaying white on your S2 actually caused the display consumption to go up drastically (sometimes double the power required) while on LCD the screen uses a much more consistent amount of power. The whites on your One -should- appear as truer whites, while yes, the black will be more washed out.

Useful to know, thanks!
Thanks for the input, being brand new to HTC I'm still learning what's available.
Ideally I like Nova so I'd like to keep that. I'd like the general menus to be white text on black BG, I can clean things out with Titanium and stop ads with adfree.
From what I can tell I'm going to need to root the phone and then install a rom.
Are there 'pre-optimized' roms? Are there any Roms which are basically stock except for the colour flip? Can I get 4.3 in there as well? That middle button would be great too. My SII came with swype, I miss that.
I've found instructions on rooting but a little unsure which rom to go for, konfuzion's suggestion of 42One looks ok but I don't know what's out there, supported and up to date.
If you have any more thoughts they're always welcome
I'm gonna need some help on this guys.
I'm in the UK on the EE network, can I download any rom or do I need a specific 'EE' one?
Do I need a rom if I just want superuser privileges and a reversed/inverted menu? (also be able to install titanium backup and adfree)
I think I can handle the rest of it.
Thanks.
Well you most likely have a gsm one so you wouldn't want to flash anything in the sprint one section. And seeing as your gsm i believe there are a few roms over there that are 4.3
From My TweakedOut ONE
Hey there,
This has probably been answered before. so a simple redirect would be ok.
I love the stock look of the N7000 (menu buttons and locker) but all of the 4,3 roms have the Nexus menu buttons and app locker suck. I find those horrible to use.
First question... what would it be called (kinda nooby when it comes to launchers and such).... Are they called AOSP or AOKP or something.. or is it completely different.
Are there any roms which look like the stock rom.. but with enhanced features with the new 4.3 features?
Thanks in advance.
Ricky
aosp, aokp, cm, miui are just rom types.
By saying menu buttons you mean the whole look of an interface. You mean You want this stock 4.1.2 samsung blue stuff?
Because if this is what You want you may want to download samsung theme for cm from the google play.

That makes sense,

Just stuck with the updated version of LiveNote 5.2.

I'm using PA myself and it allows for nice customization when it comes to looks. Have you tried that? There are also a few fun launchers that might solve your cosmetic issue. Is it mostly the new DPI settings you're having trouble with? Or just the general art style of Android?

I haven't tried PA yet. Next on the list.
I am looking for a stock icons/colour scheme, the apps logo not to look like the nexus variation of droid. Just me being an oldschool stock visuals.

I'm currently running Lungo ROM (android 4.0.4) because it's light.
If You are searching for more functions use PA, or the best "Jellybam".
That's the best ROM ever, but it uses a LOOOOT of memory.
Bought the US version and Like the phone but I see only two color settings. The srgb mode is too dark and dull and would be better if I got to add some more saturation to it. The colorful mode is too colorful and the reds are too extreme. Are these really the only two options we get?

Yep. Unfortunately they completely stripped the Chinese ROM in bring it to the worldwide community in favor of a mostly vanilla android. They also stripped out gesture navigation which was in the Chinese ROM and is actually baked into Android Pie! SMH.

Sad I guess I played myself. Even the honor 6X I have now came better calibrated than these 2 extremes and the display on the 6x is inferior. Is it really that difficult adding a saturation slider or color temp controls? I can tell the panel on this thing is pretty good but having the colors blast my face on colorful mode and everything looking dead on SRGB is BAD with no in between. I guess I should have been more patient but now I'm definitely going to look at the phones in store prior to buying. And I suppose software support isn't a meme either but lesson learned I'll do my homework next time. I don't bank on maybes when it comes to expecting more features added or potential roms looking at the red magic mars because that would fix a lot. Thanks for the reply.
