Power button - Sprint HTC One (M7)

Hi i just got thephonenewand i had a question. My power button doesnt push down like my other phones its more like a light touch. Is that supposed to be like this? Or is the power button supposed to be more elevated. Btw it completely works

Mine does depress, but not much. Certainly not as much as my evo.

Nice username.
Yeah, the One has a very stiff button, so you're going to get almost no tactile feedback when you press it. That's how it's supposed to be. If you don't like it though, there are several mods floating around this forum on ways you can raise its profile (like painting on clear nail polish).

Or just bypass it almost completely and use the modified kernels for slide to wake or double tap to wake. There's also a few other long press options too. At least that way you only use then power button to turn on and off the phone.

There also appear to be options for turning screen off through the eqs, although I haven't been able to get those to work for me. Sweep2wake/sweep2sleep is awesome. Also a great little show off for your non rooted friends!

Camera mod

Im not 100% sure if this is the right place for my post but i think it may be.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the camera settings to allow the power button to snap pictures and videos while the camera is opened. Its in the most convenient place and onscreen buttons i find a little annoying.
I feel like unless im overlooking something id probably need root access to change this (unless there are any apps out there that anyone would recommend).
Thanks in advance!

Definitely not in the right place (should be in general), but try Camera ICS in the Play Store. I haven't used it in a while, but if I remember right, there are HW button assignments (can't remember if that requires root). Also, Shot Control is a really great 3rd party app...
I chose the red pill... Now I'm in the mAtrix and I know Kung Fu... in HD!

In the settings you can make the volume button capture pictures. It set to zoom by default.

Okay i see it now! Thanks.

I kinda like using the volume buttons for zoom. Any idea how id be able to set the power button to snap pics/vids and still have the volume buttons for zooming?
That would be the ideal button configuration for this phone and a camera app and i dont see me necessarily needing to turn my phone off while the camera is running.
Thanks again!

Questions should be posted in Q&A section. Remember that next time. Moved.
Okay will do!

Also, i dont see the ics camera allowing me to change the power button functions. I only see more options with the volume buttons (a step in the right direction, but still not the optimal layout im looking for)

Slide to wake app? I like pressing the power button

Hello guys,
Do you know if theire is an app for waking up the nexus just by tapping or sliding on the back screen? Such app exist for thé galaxy nexus.
Thanks

Your title contradicts itself. You want to tap your phone to wake it.. But also like pressing the power button? Did you mean you "don't" like pressing the power button?
Tap to wake exists but it has to be baked into the kernel and it's really useless (imo).
The `feature' works by basically keeping the screen in a powered state.. Kernels that support this feature (which is becoming less and less and less) usually set it on a 15-45 second timer... You have X amount of time after putting your phone to sleep that touch to wake will work.. After that time elapses your screen is fully powered off and touch to wake will no longer work. If this feature existed 24/7 you'd be going through batteries like crazy.
Hum ok dude thx for that answer, I want this function but il like more battery life...
Do you know any app waking the screen by capting motion with the camera? Or using any other sensors available on the nexus for doing so?

tbh not sure. I imagine someone could use the proximity sensor (which I don't think the N7 even has) but using that would cause so many false wakes by sliding it in and out of cases, etc it would also be useless.
Your only solution with the N7 is wearing a magnetic glove and waving your hand across the bottom left of the unit.
Yeah or by implementing a magnet on one of my finger... I don't find the accès to the power button very easy thought

That's not necessarily so. PGM on the Nexus doesn't appear to work like that at all, though since it's proprietary, we don't know exactly how it works. It certainly doesn't chew up any more juice on my Gnex, nor does it cause wakelocks.
showp1984 is working on something similar for his N7 bricked kernel.

Gotcha, if that is your problem you could always use a ROM that has volume wake.. AOKP does for sure, CM10 does I believe (someone confirm) and probably others.. Enabling it will let you wake the phone using the power button or the volume rocker.. This will obviously will interfere with anything allowing you to use the volume rocker to advanced to the next song etc while the phone is asleep. This way you basically have 3 buttons to wake up the phone instead of finding `the one'.

Interesting. Learn something new every day. :good: I stand corrected
I would also like a slide to wake. Having it on my galaxy Nexus means I try it on my 7 about once a day.

Or if your finger is in pain when you put it under more pressure than touching screen.
But using the Button Saviour we can save the home button a few, don't you think?
I have tried to use Button Saviour one time, but i hate it. I hate the virtual button on the side of screen, so i searched another way to save home button and i found the app "Home Button" like free on market (link below). This app runs like a ongoing on the notification bar. So if we need to go to home screen, just roll down the notification bar and click on the app. The best part, the app don't run on backgroud, so no RAM usage! It only run when we click on, and than it close immediately.

[App] Soft Buttons Lights always on!

New here in the HTC one area so please forgive me if this topic was already covered. Being new to the HTC phone I wasn't liking the soft button lights turning off during the day light so this app basically keeps button backlight always on, as long as the screen is on.
Confirmed working with HTC one. KiNDA

UPDATE: The soft lights turn off on occasion and I have to toggle the power button to turn the light back on. Bug I guess but quick minor temp fix by hitting the button
UPDATE 7-/4/13: According to solid.snake (see quote below), Capacitive Buttons Brightness Works well

Yeh after having an i777 last couple years with the on screen keys, it's taken me about a week to get used to a home button and the 3 key layout, pressing left for multi and holding it for settings feels a bit awkward to me out of habit lol

Exactly how I'm feeling! I even miss the fourth "search" button on the i777. I had longpress open a QR scanner which always came in handy.
