Okay, this has been bugging me for a long time. I've been around since the beginning of G1 and have never seen a solution to this. I'm out of town on vacation, so my updates and responses may be slow. I've found a partial solution for this. If you don't want to read the fluff, drop down to Partial Solution sections, but be warned, this is not perfect (yet). Below is a quick spilling of my guts on this. Please excuse any grammar mistakes and fragmented thought. I posted this in DEV because more research needs to be done by someone that knows how this stuff works. If we get this worked out, I'll update this post with whatever information is necessary.
This post takes for granted the reader has some knowledge of file management and manipulation, so I won't get too detailed with how to copy/move/delete files. There is a lot of information here and I know most won't read it all, but I'm trying to get all the detail into this I can think of in hopes others have ideas that we can share.
I DO NOT KNOW THE RAMIFICATIONS OF WHAT THIS DOES! ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE IS YOUR FAULT, NOT MINE! Etc... Etc... Etc...
Issue: After flashing/Odin/wiping, sometimes the Market takes about a minute to load as does the app and security info screens. The Top Paid button is missing and all that's available is Top Free and Just In. Installing an app takes quite a bit of time. It eventually clears up, but it may take up to a week.
If you restore Market preferences via Titanium Backup or similar app, it can speed it up, but in the long run, you may get cross referenced apps over time or Market problems in general. For example, I install app1 and when it's finished, I select it in notifications and it takes me to app3. Some apps are also missing from Downloads and have to be installed again for them to show up. I also experience Titanium Backup not linking the Market correctly if at all. How to fix that is below, also.
How I Tested: I renamed /dbdata/databases/com.android.vending which reproduced the problem reliably and gave me a working set of databases and .xml's to look at.
Partial Solution: Save a copy of /dbdata/databases/com.android.vending/shared_prefs/vending_preferences.xml and put it back after you've restored your apps and opened Market once (just to lay down the directory structure). There are other files that will get more "stuff" back, but because of issues I've had between vending.apk versions, I choose to restore just this one file. It doesn't seem to change much. You can look in it and find some interesting things, but I've found changing it does very little if anything. Changing local_db_sync_required didn't do anything and it just reverted back to "false" for me.
What you will find, is Market will run quickly again BUT, you have no links so none of your apps show as installed. Although it will probably sync over time, the point of my messing around was fairly instant gratification. Thus the next section.
New Problem: Market speed is normal, but no apps are linked. Hey, I use Titanium backup! Fix Market links works, partially. I have 226 apps backed up in TB (Yes, this is why I wanted to get this working) and when I fixed Market links, it found 167. I fixed them again and it found 9, then 17, then 6 etc... It repeated some apps and never detected others. I checked and some of the "fixed" apps did not show in downloads... So I started looking. Menu -> Legend showed me part of the issue. Smiley face -vs- green M. For some reason, some of my apps were not linking properly. Here's how to get that part working.
Partial Solution: Here's what I did in TB. I filtered by Status: Backed up and Type: User. Starting at the top of the list, I long pressed on the first "smiley face" which means it didn't back up the Market link and if it was "Attached to Market", I Detached it. View in Market and installed the app. When it was done, I backed the app up again and viola, green M showing it backed up the Market link. I did this many, many more times to fix my links. It worked in all occasions as long as I could find the app in the Market. Of course, some apps installed outside the Market cannot be fixed (duh), but all others worked fine.
I still have a problem getting everything attached in one shot. If I fix Market links in TB, I still get strange results, but this is as close as I can get and I found quite a few apps that have not been linked for so long, they were a few revs behind, so I'm happy with how far I've gotten.
Questions that will be asked:
- Why didn't you force attach to Market with TB? Because it didn't work. Some indicated it did, but they didn't show up in Market as installed, they didn't back up as linked and some even reverted back to not being attached and the forced button was available. The above is how I got around all of that.
- What about the other cool DB's and .xml? I didn't find that it was worth any possible issues to restore anything else except this file. That is probably what got me into this in the first place. Your mileage may vary. DB's usually need an update script if any changes are made. If that doesn't happen and the schema doesn't match, that's usually bad. That's why a lot of ROM's require a wipe. The old doesn't match the new...
- Why can't you backup Market with TB now that it is working well? I could and it would probably work, but I know it won't work forever because it didn't before. It also won't help someone else who is in a similar situation. I've been using TB (paid) since it came out and I love it. But, it's not perfect.
- Why should I mess with this instead of waiting for it to fix itself? You probably shouldn't. I've found that if I did a restore of apps, some NEVER go back to the Downloads section without a re-install. That's my concern.
- I don't have any of these problems, why are you posting this? Because I and others have. The universe does not revolve around you. Please move on.
- Why did you post this in Dev? As I said in the beginning, because we need someone who knows how this OS works so maybe a reliable workaround can be had for all. I didn't post in DEV for exposure, I posted here because I started it and I don't know where to go. Maybe a fix can be turned into an app or incorporated directly within a ROM. Who knows? I'm not a DEVing, but I am troubleshooting an issue within the OS.
One thing I've found that helps, is I kinda ignore if it shows up in Downloads in the market after a restore. I check for updates using AppBrain app, it finds all the apps on the phone whether they're in the market or not. Then, whenever an app is updated, it directs you to the market download page. If the market link was broken, that will say "Install" instead of "Update", but an install at that point will update properly, and you'll now have a working market link.
The main goal of having apps show up in the market, IMHO, is updates and uninstalls. Use the system uninstaller rather than the market for uninstalls, and use AppBrain to find updates. Works for me.
Thanks a lot for putting this up! I was banging my head against the wall last night, as I ran into this issue again and couldnt remember how I fixed it on my G1

I rarely uninstall via market. Have an app that throws me straight to the system uninstaller from the apps icon. I like appbrain, but it exhibits the same issue as the Market for me as far as detecting installed apps in some cases. I use the Market for updates and it works fine for me as long as the apps are linked. I think it has something to do with the hash getting messed up in the assets.db
Hello you all,
Here's a non-official CyanogenMod 9 beta ROM which is almost fully working on our wildfire.
/!\ WARNING /!\ this ROM is currently BETA. Important things work, there are still things that doesn't work and the device is suffering slow-downs
If you can't stand that, make sure you have a nandroid backup to revert to after 'test'.
Please read this first:
I am absolutely no developer. I just learnt how to compile from source, and all that I'm presenting here is the result of the big efforts from the CM9 team in general, and Arco68's more specific - the CM guru for our device.
I cannot be taken responsible for anything regarding this ROM: if it suddenly bootloops, if it looks bad, if certain things don't work or stop working or if your devices tries to bite you mother-in-law and messes up the hair of your fiancée just the day before your wedding - it can be my fault, but it is your own responsibility. So don't come complaining that I screwed up your wedding party - you shouldn't have been occupied with your phone the day before your wedding in the first place.
I greatly encourage everybody to help to make this ROM better. Not only because this ROM has some great potential, but most because it is fun to do (and very addictive, be careful!) and you learn A LOT from it. So If you have find a fix of any kind, post it here and send me a pm so I can update the OP with your contribution. But please: say exactly what you did! This is an open source project and nothing is more frustrating than seeing that a specific problem has occurred on another device as well, and then noticing that people "just fixed it, yeah baby". If you are new to all this building headaches - don't use this thread to start learning how to work with git and github, but personally I don't have no single problem with more advanced questions in which the effort that you have already tried to fix it, can be seen.
I won't be posting changelogs - they are way to much changes to keep track on the ones that effect the wildfire. For recent merged changes, I refer to the gerrit.
Do not complain, but enjoy both the fact that we can run ICS on our low-end device.
This being said: download time!
New build from 2013.01.01: download.
For all previous builds, check my google drive
Custom google apps (no faceunlock stuff, no GalleryGoogle.apk, only non-neon libs => smallest footprint (something like ~4mb)):click and press ctrl-S (Thanks to Sympnotic for making it)
latest "official" gapps :download (goo-inside.me)
MTD partion size
With tiny gapps, /system takes 181 mb -> I use 200 mb to be confortable
With tiny gapps /cache takes 1.2 mb
Updates worth mentioning regarding the Wildfire
General updates. Please note that there are almost no updates, as the CM team is focussing now on CM10.1.
Ported the libstagefright changes for the msm7x27 to match the new OMX IL libraries. I however do not think that it works...
Ported some Trebuchet features from cm-10.1. This is still a work in progress, and I don't know to what extend I will succeed with this.
Fix NPE when rotating
Remove wallpaper offset
Only mark preferences changed when they actually are changed
Fix for NPE in showAllAppsCling
Fix desktop alignment when Search Bar is hidden
LauncherModel: Fix possible NPE
Wallpaper Hack
This doesn't work good yet! In fact, it gives a very interesting phenotype: when you select this, you will not see the homescreen dock anymore (so the buttons for launching the app drawer, ... that are on the bottom of the screen). However, you can still click on them, as if they were there. So you don't see them, but they are there
Workspace: Update wallpaper offsets to match hack for recent apps window
Not (properly) working
Wallpaper hack
Do not set Launcher Drawer's scrolling Transition effect to "Tablet". It reboots your device every time you open the Launcher (thanks to musicazx)
Camera panoramic view
The flashlight option on your camera. It does however work in the camcorder (the native one and Camcorder Illusion)
Playing youtube video's in HD quality (without HD it goes fine)
Gallery (use QuickPic as a good alternative)
Voice-to-text: read this
Data usage is working well, but the "general" graph is showing all blue.
Stuff that works but need resizement
Apollo - but only a bit.
Tips and tricks
Best Overclock settings are between 691 and 768 MHz w/o problems. SMARTASSV2 is the best compromise between performance and battery life.
Tip from Onisciente: If we turn off (Settings > Trebuchet > Applications settings > Widgets : Join with apps. App drawer will be faster; it won't display widgets in App drawer list, "widgets"
If you find Trebuchet Launcher slow, there are some alternative launchers. Nova Launcher is one of them, Apex Launcher & LauncherPro work great
FM radio : should be fixed but for now, use Spirit Free FM (Spirit Free FM thread):
Allow it to have superuser rights
Go to settings - audio - method and select msm7x30
When playing a youtube video, make sure that you disable HD, or it will not play well. You can do that by clicking on the red HD icon at the left of the video. If the icon isn't red anymore, HD is disabled.
Google VoiceSearch: read this.
WinSuk's script for trackball button wake-up is included. To enable/disable it: open terminal emulator, type 'trackballwake', allow superuser rights, wait for the message of success and reboot. ALL credits for this script goes to WinSuk!
Credits goes to
the whole CyanogenMod team
Arco68
And people working on this rom :
Sympnotic
Rallapag
plakiko
Have fun with it!
Erwin
Thanks a lot for this build Erwin,
trying it ASAP.
One Q: are wifi hot-sopt and mobile data working OK??
Mobile data works fine, but I haven't tested the hot-spot functionality yet. So you tell us
I've forgotten to say: if the device asks you re-enter your pin code, you must do so. If it then says that you should reboot your device: just press "back" and most of the time you should be fine. I've noticed however that doing a reboot stops hem from asking it.
Calendar works to sync fine
I'm not going to complain, but this ROM at current stage is only for users with backup phone. Trying ICS is intresting, but for this while unusable for daily use. Even writing messages is a bit sluggish and frustrating. Beta testers will come, and help with testing CM9 for Wildfire, but it must runs with reasonable speed and funcionality
Bonus
Bluetooth tethering working which is a new option in CM9...
If you install it and replace Trebuchet with Nova Launcher and run SetCpu @ 729Mhz, it is running just fine.
Sometimes you've got to look for the alternatives that fix some issues...
Also, in development settings you can set the animations at .5x.
This makes them a LOT smoother!
Bugs I'd like to report:
-All the cyanogenmod settings like those in CM7 are missing
-I don't have any lockscreen for some reason?
-Camera doesn't work
-Phone has a weird layout in Landscape-mode
-Browser doesn't work
-Animations are still laggy
-Rotation animation goes to black screen for a second and only after that it does a rotation animation
-I can't seem to get the Market working, after flashing the .zip mentioned in the first post of this thread
I just don't see a Market-icon in the app drawer...
New update - sorry if you just installed the previous one, but I was testing something and didn't know if it would work. But it does Check it out, lots of differences.

Oops! they worked fine in the previous version, not the 31-1 one!!!
What kind of mtd partitions work with this rom? I have 150 and something and it doesn't seem to be booting. The last build did boot with the same partitions.
Read the OP, you cannot install gapps due to a lack of space.. I'm working with the standerd MTD partitions.
@ErwinP, I have to say that the new bootanimation looks gorgeous, thanks for adding that
Now I would like to flash gapps on it after I've set some custom MTD partitions.
How large do you suggest the system-partition to be? Since 150 isn't enough... Just don't want to leave too much free space on /system which I could be using for /data...
-How much space does ics gapps need on /system?
-Now much space does your latest build need on /system?
Last build not work for me fine. There are FC's of all, that can FC. I can't open launcher and lock screen. But first build was good.
THX for CM9 build anyway.
P.S. Sorry for my bad English
UPD: Sorry, gapps led to FC's. When i reinstall ROM in third time it loaded perfectly.

Yeah lol should have read more carefully. I'm checking to see if the rom itself boots with my partitions.
Edit: It did not and the mtd partitions I was using were 150 10. Had a good time to look at the bootanimaton it does look pretty good
I also seem to have problems with the latest build + gapps to fit on my /system partition.
Now that I think about it, it could be because it's still only 150MB in size since my CM7 flashing...
I'll erase everything, create a new custom MTD /system partition of 250MB which should be large enough.
I'll check out the used size of /system with the terminal afterwards so you guys can optimize your device with the minimal needed /system size...
I guess the use of app2sd will be needed for apps since ICS itself + gapps takes quite some space....
In my default partition size, /system uses 150mb RAM. My partition is 250mb, but yet I can't install gaps because on the first boot, when DexOpting all those google apps, it stops with "Zip inflate: write failed: No space left on device". How big are those apps?
My Galaxy Note is running Android 4.0.4. I am running the stock ROM. Not rooted.
After I just installed the latest Samsung patch DDLR9, whenever I switch off my phone and restart it, the Icons on my Homescreen disappear. These are those programs which I have saved on my SD Card.
Never happened before this. Is there is fix to this specific to the Galaxy Note?
no this is a bug in the new DDLR9 firmware and happens to the apps moved to sd. For now move all these apps to phone and it will work fine

Fast Boot option may be the culprit
This is actually a long-standing problem in Android OS, going back at least two years (donkey's years in this technology!)
Something about the interaction of the OS and an sdcard formated for holding apps creates odd behaviours.
Lots of complicated suggestions have been made, including reformatting sdcard, reinstalling ROMs, changing launchers (the one suggested here) and such.
None of these approaches seems really to solve the problem even in most cases.
Now a ROM bug is proclaimed the cause. Well, maybe... That could always be the case, but given all the problems all the others have had in so many different configurations, I wonder...
What seems to be working for me (at least for the last week or so) is the following very simple tweak.
CUT TO THE SOLUTION BELOW -- SEARCH FOR ////
Some (not all) of my apps moved to SD (all by Titanium Backup Pro) have begun to disappear and (sometimes) reappear without warning after I began to add and delete large Virtual Machines created in QEMU from my 16GB SanDisc class 10 microSD card on my HTC Droid Incredible running rooted stock Verizon Android Froyo 2.2.3. I know this thread is far from my phone's "home base", but from what I can tell this problem with disappearing apps located on an sdcard is NOT determined by hardware or even Android version.
I also happen to use LauncherPro by Federico Carnales instead of the built-in HTC Sense launcher. I noted elsewhere on XDA that a user had suggested that because at least some (maybe all) launchers start before the SD Card that this may be a problem, especially if changes are made to the sdcard that the launcher did not perform, or was not active during their performance by other apps such as Titanium Backup. That fits my situation, because I unmounted the SD, physically removed it to a PC, and added/deleted large VM files to save (lots) of time. No problems of this sort before I did this, so there must be some connection.
I noted that other users have tried reformatting SD, substituting different brands of SD, using newer/older SD etc. None of these reliably helped. So I skipped these options.
//// The (simple!) solution I tried that SEEMS to work (only time will tell!) is buried in the main Android Settings (accessed from the Menu button while in Home screen). Under "Applications" there is a setting "Fast Boot" that I checked long ago and forgot about (it seemed like a good thing to do at the time). The text warns "Turn off to use some Market apps" (that shows the age of my 2-yr old used phone and Android OS -- ohmygosh!-- because it refers to Market rather than Google Play Store!) Anyway, I unchecked the option and rebooted the phone.
Yes, it took a bit longer to boot (maybe a whole minute!), but after waiting about another minute ALL my home screen apps had normal icons and loaded properly. Titanium Backup Pro batch scenarios confirmed there were no apps in a forced uninstalled state (i.e. I had not done the deed, the system somehow had done it or at least rendered the apps "invisible" to Titanium, which decided they needed reinstallation).
The only odd behaviour was that auto brightness was turned off after I unchecked Fast Boot and rebooted. Going into Android Settings > Display and rechecking "auto brightness" took care of that. No other oddities or strange behaviours thus far (but it has only been about an hour).
I will report anything further on this thread only (Samsung Fascinate > Fascinate Q&A > What just happend? apps on sdcard) if anything else requires reporting. Silence implies success!
link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873670
(I am copying this post to other relevant threads, but will not post anything further elsewhere -- only there. This is a bit arbitrary (especially now that the chosen thread no longer is the most recent active one on this topic), but I hope this approach pleases the XDA sysops/admins)

Seems stable here, we'll see. BUT...You need to flash gapps for 4.2,, or there will be a lot of force closing on startup. (I am using using 20121212 here). And of course wipe dalvik and cache. Having trouble with voip apps, but probably not the rom.
Running well here...
Working well for me so far. Like srpanadero said install 20121212 gapps. If you use 5 x 5 homescreen icons spacing you'll notice outer icons bleeding over the edges, wrong spacing between widgets, dock items spaced too tight, go to > Settings > Launcher > Homescreen, enable Stretch screens. Everything will fall into place.
If you have any apps (like Barcode scanner) that need to disable hardware overlays, Developer options are not showing by default, you have to turn them on. Settings > About phone > Tap Build number several times until it tells you you're about to turn on developer options, 3 2 1, there they are!
Running with UVMA1 radio, works, no dropped calls, etc, but need to try this radio all over town... Best data I've seen with this latest radio is 7M (just at home, slow is usual here), may go back to Blaze UVLH5 which gave 10M, 14M in bursts. Need to test gps.

radio
I don't have upload privileges yet, or links, email me, its in my profile. The blaze radio is all over xda, search for it including the 5 digit alphanumeric designation (there are older versions, get the latest 1 I mentioned). Since you gave upload privileges, please upload it, and the screenshot, if you would.
By the way, a few speed tests later, 7M to 11M so far today, Bluetooth works, had to pair deliberately this time... GPS still no verdict, maps wouldn't lock on, may have just been that location, still testing.
There is a new nightly from the 11th.
This has been very stable here. Maps are good. Only problem has been VoIP, but seem to be working around that by playing with settings in sip client. I think it is just flaky Samsung hardware implementations. Very smooth and fast. Lock screen widgets are great. Have not tried NFC.
Edit: WiFi tether not working.
I am not able to load it through cwm or twrp. I suspect I have dorked something up.
New Radio Link
As promised, the link to the new UVMA1 Radio. I take no responsibility for this as I am posting the link for a member that cannot. I have not tested it yet, but I will momentarily and report back.

I am pretty new to all this but this is what I learned. so far.
Rooting only give you admin rights to the system. It does not change the stock loader. You need to add CWM or TRWP to get a different boot screen. There are packages that will do both for you.
Hope this helps
I installed both on my phone after rooting and tried to install the nightly but I get an error.
And the error is?
I'll have to try it again and tell you.
---------- Post added at 09:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:02 PM ----------
First, it only has an option to load via external sd card or cache and second the error says something like unable to verify whole file signature.

Sounds like you do not have the twrp2 recovery installed which you will need to install a rom. Is the recovery screen a green android, or a black screen full of large square buttons? I can't post a link but do a google image search for twrp2 and you will see what that screen is supposed to look like.
If you do not have twrp then google "sgh-t879 twrp" and the first link will be to instructions and options for installing it.
No I have a little android guy on the screen. Thanks, that helps! I'm not sure where I went wrong. I think it had something to do with being on the newest version.
So I performed that step within the goo manager, but recovery still looks identical to before.
I had same issue finally downloaded the zip file to my phone and used Room manager to install it. There is a thread in this forum that give steps. If you can't find it I will post the link when I get back to my desk top

Re: cm10.1 nightly
I tried every instruction and the only one that worked for me was adb shell and then use the dd command. That command is in that instruction page.
Yeah cwm doesn't work either. At this point I'd rather just get a new phone lol but can't afford to.
Hello all,
From the recent access to the google play store from the nook hd+ and the deep discounts, I decided to get the nook hd+.
Indeed, it is a great device, and the addition of google play makes it so much more powerful.
Thanks to leapinrar's rooting and extras file, I can also download all sorts of awesome apps for it. I went ahead and downloaded the universal root kit as well as the extras kit that allowed apps of unknown sources to be downloaded to it.
However, there are a couple issues happening:
1. This happens intermittenly- Every once in a while, the nook hd+ completely resets itself for no particular reason. Sometimes it happened every ten minutes, yet it didn't happen at all yesterday. I am not sure what is going on.
2. This happens all the time- Every time I open the library menu, it crashes, saying "unfortunately, library has stopped."
I didn't have neither of these problems before getting it rooted. Can anybody point me to the right direction in solving this problem?
BTW, I put the post in this section, because they didn't allow me to post at the nook hd+ specific forums. Please redirect post to appropriate place if necessary.
Thanks in advance for all of the help!
This is the right forum to post that question.
Try flashing the disable root zip so that just the extras is active. It is best not to root unless you really need it. If it still acts up, go to the stock CWM and wipe data/factory reset. That means you will have to log in again both with B&N and Google. But it may get rid of your issue. Then flash just the extras zip this time. Downloading all those awesome apps may have added one that is causing the problem. So be judicious about what you add back.

thanks leapinrar! I will try your solution and let you know with the results ASAP.
After reflashing back to CWM, these issues indeed disappeared. Adding extras and root functionality (I have a couple apps that require rooting) did not require in crashes, so just like you said, I think the issues stemmed from one of my apps. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks again.
