If you don't know what it does then why would you S-OFF your device? Doesn't sound very smart to me. Like above said... It just helps YOU possibly break you device but since that's a lame answer I'll help.
You can flash modded hboots, custom splash screens, remove the red warning text on boot, remove bootloader tampered sign and lock/relock/unlock bootloader.
You can probably do more but that's what I use it for. Happy bricking

Not doubting you, but skeptical. Can you provide a screenshots to show off your Festivus Miracle?
Can anyone (like a dev) replicate your success? Someone who is an established contributor?
There are only 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary math, and those who don't.

Hmm, okay. I'm going to still be a bit hands-off with this until a clear method of rooting, free of bugs, drops.
Has anyone tried the Raider's root?
I means its nothing bad I've only had it happen twice , you just remount it and go about your way

It ought to work, but there are better ways to get perm root if you're bootloader's unlocked. Temp root methods use exploits to break things and get root, but if you've got an unlocked bootloader, you can use legitimate methods to flash su to the proper location. Check the sticky for info on using the SuperTool.
I'm using LogCat right now just because it was the first one to popup in the Market so anyone who can point me to a link on what to do/what to look for/& settings to set the program at, I know I'm asking a lot but remember there are no stupid questions

Regarding the orange color I'd go with #FF7F00.

Well, I have a deadline of the 25th to choose and considering the One X is held up at customs without a specific way they have to do the investigation.... I'm doubting that will be over with by then. Considering that, is the Vivid a good option from my infuse?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
One X unless you have a pressing need for microSD. It is worth waiting for a boot loader unlock.
Why do you have a deadline, might I ask?
Sent from my HTC Velocity 4G using XDA Premium App
Vivid would be my choice
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Have to get a new phone then or I don't get one at all. Convenient isn't it?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
I'm really attracted to the one x because of sense 4 and the 720p display.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
One X is essentially just another Vivid. You're not going to get much dev out of it since HTC said they're not going to unlock the BL. Sense 4 will come to the Vivid, one day.
Also, out of reading, I've noticed the vivid has to be taken apart for s-off. This isn't necessary for roms/kernels/mods, correct?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
That is correct unless your carrier has not released ics upgrade or you have not updated you have to have ics hboot to run ics roms

I am on AT&T and decently experienced with technology, just not with programming. I just don't want to risk breaking a brand new device just to switch kernels. With unlocked boot loader, you just do it through hboot and adb correct?

Here's a link to another thread on the general forum. Same thing, One X or Vivid.

Yep just use fastboot commands I am on my phone so I could not see your carrier I am s-on with att and running dark raider and have had no problem flashing kernel with fastboot then flashing rom

Looks like sales on the One X will be halted due to patent infringement claims by Apple. You may be waiting a while to get one.

I have rooted and ran a custom rom with just about every android phone I owned cause stock was terrible but honestly the at&t vivid has a great stock ics rom with no issues at all I rooted this just to delete all that bloatware and battery life has been great since then I never had such a great battery life with custom roms all I did was download set cpu and was good to go.
Sounds great. I started with an iPhone, then an aria, after that I had an inspire and loved it. Now I'm on an infuse and love the screen but miss my sense.

Sense 3.6 on the Vivid will look a lot more like Sense 3.x on the Inspire than Sense 4.0 will.
I like sense in general, pretty much all versions.

Well, if all goes well, I will be joining the vivid community on the 25th. But I've had bad luck recently so its a possibility I won't.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
you dont need s-off.. you can flash a kernel via flashboot. and also, your vivid is more or less a one x if you installed dark raider
cheers
Unless youre thinking about getting the euro quad core one x I would get the vivid. The one XL and the vivid are fairly comperable.

It's apparently one of the most sophisticated apps for root detection and security. There's no way of bypassing it apart from unrooting.

They say it's something to do with their contract with content providers - I think it's because they're just c*nts. It's the same with jailbroken iOS devices.
