Ever since the order page came up a few days ago for the HTC One Google Edition, I've been lurking the threads, watching the videos and reading the reviews.
The general consensus I'm getting is that the Google Edition will not push out updates immediately like the Nexus devices.
Now I'm in somewhat of a dilemma because I'm not sure if I should keep my order with Google Play or to cancel and order an HTC One Developer's Edition.
The GE Edition is $640+ after taxes and free shipping on GP.
The Dev Edition is $654 after shipping, with no taxes.
As we all know the GE Edition is 32GB and the Dev Edition is 64GB.
So with all that said, is the decision as easy as saying that the Dev Edition is 14 bucks more and has twice the space? I have no issues with custom roms but honestly I value stability over anything and despite some shortcomings that some people may find in the pure stock version, I actually don't mind it. When I had my N4 I was happy with stock and using custom loaders to change the look and feel.
Now the topic of the GE version rom being available for the other phones has come up a lot in the last few days and many people are speculating that it will be very easy to do so forth.
Sorry if I'm sounding like a newb here, but is there any benefits right now to getting the GE over the DE edition? What would be the overall best choice for me as someone who doesn't mind stock android? Is there anyone out there who would choose the GE instead of the DE version and if so why?
Thanks for all the help guys!
Get a dev edition because you can run a GE Rom on it and the 64 GB storage.
BTW where did you get those prices. It should be like double that price lol.

HAHA Fixed!! Thanks for catching that! Iono why my brain was thinking 6 but typed 3.. ugh lol
I don't know how the Google edition works with the ability to flash a sense Rom but I like the option to choose personally, and I know with the dev edition you can flash stock android. If I was you I'd go with the dev edition. If you want some fancy special edition just for bragging rights, then get that but if you want functionality and the option to pick what you like get the dev.

I too have considered this upgrade from my Nexus 4. But if I remember correctly the IR port does not work in the Google Play version, and is working fine in the dev version.
where is the dev version available?
People. The hardware on the Dev and GPe phones are the exact same. Just the ROM, bootloader and recoveries are different. We already have the GPe bootloader and recovery, and I think we even have GPe based ROMs. Eventually, you will be able to fully convert the DEV, INTL, ATT and TMO Ones to GPe and vice versa. Get the Dev edition.

Now that Google has announced they will be selling a GSM Samsung S4 through the android market starting in June, what are your thoughts on which to get?
I purchased my HTC T-Mobile version last week. Took a while to adjust to Sense, and actually have 'desensed' it a bit by using Nova Launcher instead. It's a pretty phone, but I do miss some of the stock Android features of my GNex. Actually, it may be that since the GNex has had quite a bit of development, there are some nice tricks I can use with it that haven't been developed for the HTC One yet (i.e. PGM swipe to wake).

someone said it one of the threads(not sure which one) that he knows someone at htc and the will be releasing a pure aosp rom for the htc one like samsung is doing
Sadly, its not true based on this source
Update: Jeff Gordon of HTC just sent us the following message, “HTC is not currently planning a ‘Nexus Edition’ of the HTC One.”
http://androidandme.com/2013/05/news/htc-employee-teases-stock-android-htc-one/
I was really hoping that HTC would partner with Google so we could get pure android with actually time updates and this is the thread, page 60 that has the topic ".CyanogenMod Night lies"

companys always deny rumors in public statements until they are ready to release. not saying that i believe the guy and his source at htc but i definitely dont believe public statements release by a company rep
Is this the phone to get? Not a fan of samsung except for the GOOGLE phones.. I have a iPhone ATM, I am a themer, and flash roms like they are going out of style. I am a huge MIUI fan, hence the iPhone. I am starting to rebrowse XDA for info regarding rom Development, considering the phone is pretty new, its taking off well?
Any input would be appreciated.
This phone is amazing and has tons of support. It has an amazing stock HTC interface and if that's not good enough for you, they're releasing a Google Edition version of this phone which means official AOSP support. Throwing MIUI on top of that would be childs play

Google edition sounds like a plan! once the kernal drops for that phone, then the sprint variant should get it too correct? Im in if thats the case. With my Phone upgrade i can get this phone for $30, not looking to pay $500 for the Google edition.
If you want to be able to show off anything except aesthetics (stats, software gimmicks, etc.), you'll probably wanna go with the S4. The One's features generally take daily use to appreciate.
There have been reports of HTC offering the Google edition software to early supporters. That and developers will definitely be able to port stock aosp from the Google edition to our phones. The hardware is almost identical!

Why not get the dev edition of the HTC one it was cheaper than the ones on contract last time I check and it had more storage

Do you guy's really think they're gonna release a Nexus Experience HTC One for Sprint? I sure don't, since they said it was for AT&T and T-Mobile only. Plus, I also don't think they're gonna release a stock AOSP Rom for this phone either. Your best bet for AOSP on the Sprint version, is gonna be CM10.1 or Carbon.
welcome back
I've been an apple geek for 20+ years, yes they had them back then...
And have really liked almost every device they've made with the exception of the iPhone. Themed/hacked and jb still doesn't compere to a rooted Android
I hope you come back.
is there a way to flash the developer edition software onto the tmobile htc one? and it just update through htc? jst curious i tried to stay from rooting but i seriously doubt tmobile is going to update my phone in a timely manner so i gave up .
I actually just did this today but I converted my AT&T instead of a t mobile to the dev edition

everything works? lte ? hspa+? i just want stock in not really in to customization until the phone gets boring you know? and if so where can i find the rom you used? in the forum i dont see stock stuff like when i had my gnex and nex4 ..everything seems modified in some way and i just want stock maybe with root preinstalled which is why i was looking at the 4.3 dev edition because i saw people talking about htc posted the entire thing up for grabs ..i just dont want to lose functionality i want it to be the same phone just software has been updated with all of htc's improvements you know?
Just picked up a use Tmobile USA HTC One out of curiosity to keep my Nexus 5 company. Can anyone suggest a really slimmed down Sense based or Google Play Edition based ROM? I really hate bloat The smaller the better.

I just got a Developers Edition Moto X and I love the device, but coming from the HTC One, it has come as a shock to me how different each forum is.
I'm very surprised we haven't got a stock ROM for the 4.4.2 update that is flashable with TWRP/CWM.
Is it because of the locked bootloaders? Did the device not sell well?
From what I've read here is that most people are happy with the stock ROM with root. As the ROM is so close to Vanilla Android, there is not a lot of development in ROMs for this phone. Also most want to keep Active Display and/or the Touchless Controls. I just got an OTA for 4.2.2 on my retail unlocked Moto X (also referred to as the T-Mobile version).
As far as the boot loader goes, to my knowledge only the Verizon retail and AT&T retail Moto X's are locked. All the other models can be unlocked by requesting the unlock code from Motorola. And I think the phone sold well. It definitely could have used a lot more marketing help to compete with the larger manufacturers.
sucks that mine is locked

Well we do have a stock flashable 4.4.2 ROM there's actually 2 one for the 1052 and kangakat ,both are for the gsm version and I do believe they will also work on the CDMA variant If you swap out the build prop, we also have custom Roms, slimkat, cm11, gummy.pacman, Liquid smooth and beanstalk

I completely agree with this. ROMs like CyanogenMod or AOKP aren't likely to support Active Displays, or "Okay Google Now" voice commands, or flicking the wrist to unlock the camera.
Also, I think the fact that there's a big split between the Dev Editions and Moto-Maker hurts things more. A lot of people of Moto-Maker, and they're very limited on what they can do with their phones compared to Dev Edition. Then you add in the fact that there are GSM/Verizon/Sprint versions all mixed AND the phone hasn't sold well, and things are very limited.

not to worry. even though a lot are pleased with stock out of the box, there will be ROMs. we can still tweak, improve, and slim it down some. i officially ordered mine yesterday and it is the DE/T-Mob variant XT1053.
just like others have said, the device hasn't been advertised as much as it should be, esp with the deals that keep going on with it. if it would stay at $300 for 16gb/$350 for 32gb, they would sell like hot cakes.

the GSM unlocked on Moto-Maker is the exact same as the Dev Edition. i think this is confusing a lot of people.
