Do I have to use the stock ROM in order to use the Google Wallet?
I just downloaded and installed the APK and it doesn't appear to be working for me.

You don't install it and you need to be rooted. You put it in /system/app/ and change the permissions to rw-r--r--. After you reboot, it'll show up in your apps.
Can someone post the apk for the new update?
So just to clarify, you can use Google Wallet if you're rooted??
And I second the request for a link.

It's in the market for you to download.

Yea I'm rooted and I have used it at McDonald's. Update the app in Google play.

It's not appearing in the Google Play market for me. I did what AZImmortal said to do, but its saying that my SIM card is invalid?
I may be using an invalid APK, I'll try a different one.
I updated the app directly from the market.

Are any of you rooted users experiencing the "device unsupported" banner in your wallet?

It will say that if your rooted but the app will work.

I saw it on mine sometimes. I used Voodoo to temporarily unroot, worked fine after that.
.
My credit card is taking forever to get added. Then again this is on my Verizon GNex .
Works on my N7 now, good stuff.
I dont see an update nor do I see google wallet in the play store. IM not rooted or anything. I do have the google wallet app on my tablet though already. Wtf?
Edit. Went to the list of All apps instead of Installed, and it showed google wallet and let me update it. I dont knwo why it didnt show installed or whatever, but got it now
Actually it would be more useful if they would simply allow the thing outside of the US.
Wallet doesn't show up in the Play Store for some (all?) custom roms. If someone can pull the updated apk from /system/app/ and post it for everyone, that would be great.
Try this

Yeah, you can send the update remotely from the online play store.

That's normal. It's Google's way of saying, "you're rooted, so don't blame us if you lose your phone and someone gains access to Google Wallet b/c you're rooted."
It's saying that it's incompatible with my Nexus 7 and I can't access it via the store.
Weird.
Any one have luck updating gtalk to hangouts, I suppose if your rooted it's probably simple but if your unrooted as I am than the talk app is a system app bloatware and hasn't updated to hangouts

OP asked how we'd go about this if we aren't rooted. Curious about this as well.
You can do it via the play store through the webpage.
Says i have hangouts installed but its not in my app tray..when i hit open from the play market hangout app page it opens Talk
Same thing happened to me...just install it from the play.google.com site as @robfactory said above. Fixed.
installed from web to device and rebooted phone
I'll be sticking with talk. Hangouts is a bit......how do I say it..... IT SUCKS:what:

This is how I did it. Still had a shortcut for Talk in one of my homescreen folders, but just deleted it and replaced it with Hangouts. I like it.

Hate to say it bud, but step one for anything XDA, is root your phone .
Stay on the stock ROM if you want (god knows why, less battery life, slower phone, less secure phone, still the same phone and functionality, but that is your choice to stay on the ROM it came with), but you should add root capabilities. You can stay on the same ROM, only downside is I'm pretty sure there is no way to stay with your current setup, HTC Dev unlock WILL wipe your existing settings, widgets, profiles, apps, etc. But you can flash just the small root package and modify nothing that the phone came with originally. Rooting your phone is required here at XDA (lol not really, I just say that). Anyway, sorry I don't have anything useful to say about the app, but trust me... You want root Besides, you can deny root access to anything. Who is SYSTEM anyway? Why does he have all the powers and I haz so little?
P.S.
Do it.
I am getting this...

I believe the update was pushed today, I saw it in play store as the actual update and it worked fine for me. I got the error message in the previous post once, but restarting the app fixed it. I do get my contact list disappearing quite often.
So far I feel the contact list could use some managing, I miss seeing my talk list and seeing who's online but I suppose I could try it out some more. There is a decent amount of emoticons added, but everything feels very basic and minimalistic. Not quite what I was expecting, could be because it's early on.
All in all, still feels like a beta.

So anyone know how to get around Verizon's root check. I get the following message when trying to watch stuff we've bought using their media manager app.

Usually you rename the superuser.apk file to something else, like superuser.bk, but this also disables superuser. It would be something you switch every time you want to use the app, then switch back when you're done. Not sure if this works for that Verizon app, but it's how people have gotten around root checks before.

It's certainly one solution, but most Superuser apps have a temporary unroot feature that will take care of this for you, which can be a lot safer than monkeying around with your APKs if you don't know what you're doing. There are also some good apps out there that can hide an active root, although it's been some time since I've had to use them.

Hey everybody ! I'm a regular user of Google wallet and since the android update to 4.3 I'm unable to utilize the apk.
I've tried with stock rooted and with custom rom but to no luck
I'm trying at a McDonald's location that I know works based on the fact that I've used it many times in the past. At least prior to the update.
Had anyone been able to use Google wallet since the 4.3 update?
Edit: I'm using an ota based rom
Interesting. I had no issue setting it up or enabling tap-to-pay, but I haven't actually tested it yet. I'm sure the custom ROM wouldn't work if it was anything besides Sense based, but I'm not 100 on Sense based custom ROMs. I'll test it out this evening when I swing by PetCo.
I haven't had any problems. Tested yesterday

What rom are you using please?
Have the same problem as OP. Tried it Stock rooted and BadBoy which im currently running. Both no go. Setup was fine, but when i try paying with it, nothing happens. And yes, my NFC was on and had a stable LTE connection.
No issues for me. I even got used as a training experience for a new PetCo employee. Apparently they'd been waiting on me coming back in so they could show them how to handle NFC payments. I'm not sure how I feel about being that well known at PetCo for using Google Wallet.
Tried Google Wallet at CVS Pharmacy and Best Buy both times the transaction was declined even though I wasn't close to my max credit line or on my debit card.
I've had issues since the update to the Google Wallet app. Not sure it's 4.3 the problem. But I'm getting a transaction declined when I use it. But I know it has nothing to do with my limit being reached because I always endup paying with the actual card.

@rougegoat & @Deathsnuggle was your use while on the new 4.3 rom or something else?
My experience is nothing happens. No vibration (which normally happens when you place phone on nfc placard to pay)
no denied (because it doesn't connect or communicate)
and after trying to communicate with my wife's phone (HTC evo 4g lte) which normally at least vibrates to acknowledge something's attempting to communicate, nothing happens there either (which used to before the update)
And just to clarify I did the radio update, firmware update, recovery update, then rom (android 4.3 w/sense 5)

Stock 4.3, root, s-off. I had a few issues the first day, but have had no issues since. But I really don't like that they set the password requirement to once a day as the default.

Ok I wanted to post that I found out what was causing MY problem... I was using exposed framework. I'm NOT SAYING that it breaks nfc but some combination I had going was causing my issue.
I installed my rom again without exposed and it works again.

I had a feeling it was related to this, but I love toolbox too much. What module were you using?
Well interestingly enough, the nfc function works with the android beam but my Google wallet apk isn't functioning.
Looks like back to the drawing board.

Yea I full wiped the other day and didn't install anything EXCEPT Google Wallet and couldn't get it to work. Wallet says tap and pay is setup correctly, but can never authorize a transaction even though my phone beeps and vibrates when it makes a connection with our vending machine. I'm on Badboyz, which is pretty close to stock.

Yup. I tried with the Google wallet apk update too
And why does it need updated?
Thanks.
I do not have that app.
I'm on H/K BB ROM, and this update popped up in the Play Store along with FB and ES file explorer.
I did not install this app.
Yeah, I'm on the same ROM and searched Play Store. I don't see it. Did it get reinstalled by Google or HTC Backup possibly, from a different device?
I'm using the same ROM as well and that app is nowhere to be found.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52291804
EDIT: Checked my device and I don't have that app either, though
Just checked the play store for updates and I have an update for this same app.
I am running the latest Viper Rom
Sent from my 831C using Tapatalk
I'm still rocking Captain_Throwback's stock/rooted .8 ROM (been lazy to flash the H/K ROM/firmware) and I just noticed the play store updated this app as well. Doesn't show up in my app drawer.
Reading a review in Google Play and it says it's some test file for Google Wallet and some Sprint app that supposed to replace it? No idea what it is. Maybe something Sprint is pushing to our phones?
Also running Captains stock/rooted rom. I just notice the "Sprint Touch" app which I didn't download. I went to uninstall, but it just said it would revert back to the older version. Must have been on the phone already just hidden. Anyone know what it does or is for? I could uninstall it but it was on the phone before just hidden. Did the update get pushed via google play? I couldn't find it on the play store so just wondering how it got updated.
I received an update for this app last night also. It auto-updated, never noticed it before. Any confirmation on what it is? I am on Bad Boyz ROM also and have flashed the HK RUU
I saw that last night too.......not sure what it is.
Well, I take back what I said.
I do have it in the Play Store under My Apps and it's awaiting an update. I guess it just took a little while longer for my phone to see that it "requires an update". Very curious.
I saw it yesterday as well and avoided updating it, then it just disappeared from the "My apps" list on its own...

Still on mine as well. Still don't know what it does. Thinking about uninstalling it.
It didn't pop up till I installed Google Wallet. I think that may have something to do with it.

I rooted my phone just to be able to delete bloatware from Sprint. I didn't install a custom ROM.
This was NOT shown in my apps that I am aware of and out of nowhere it popped up one day needing to update. I don't know what this app is either. I have Touch 0.9. It wanted to update, I panic'd and I froze it with Titanium Backup.
I have not tested Google Wallet yet, since not many places accept it, so I've no idea if my freezing messed with that. I have had Google Wallet setup almost for awhile now and this Touch thing just came out of nowhere long after I had Wallet.
If you go to the Play store and type touch you'll get responses for a million other things, so I've no idea how to find it if i wanted to.
I am completely stock/not rooted and this same update popped up about a week ago on my m8. ait auto updated and then went away, there's no trace of it in my app drawer or the play store.
I know I'm late but I called Sprint and they claim that this app doesn't exist. They also said to go to a store and have a tech check it out.
