Nooooo. Not this **** again. It's only the shatterproof shield (screenprotector) that is damaged. If you remove them, your phone should be as new. If you searched the forum you would already know this

glass screen XZ easily broken.
I'm looking to buy an XZ. I view on the forums, I see like that.
Do yourself and us all a favour and buy something else.
My phone has survived multiple drops, sometimes even on uneven concrete surfaces.
While the polycarbonate shell does take a beating, the glass has never so much as scratched.
These are 3-4 foot accidental drops though. If you intend to throw your phone around, it probably wont last long.
Also, you should put a screen protector over the shatter proof film or remove the film completely, because shatter proof film is prone to scratches.
In conclusion, I suggest that you get a case and a screen protector should you choose to purchase this phone.
I'd recommend this case that comes with a screen protector for the front.

this is still glass
I dunno what is the claim of gorilla glass/dragontail
but i remember that the point of the ion-exchange type glass is to make a stronger against scratches glass
as for the strength, some did say that with the better glass, they ae able to use a thinner piece of glass
(lower weight, and/or cost)
so the end result is still the same
glass is glass, and it will break rather than dent
just the right(or wrong) pressure at the right angle
and the glass will break deeply

So, in a recent review/first looks courtesy of The Verge It is shown that the nice glass backing of the nexus is quite easily broken. This does not guarentee that this is the case with the final release variant as google might pick this up. Joshua from The Verge said he 'knocked it of his table on to the floor' from memory I think it was a tiled floor.
Whilst its just a hairline crack it is something to look out for
Here is an image I quickly threw together in paint:

I think people are aware of this already. It uses stronger glass than the iPhone 4/4S so it should be fine. I had an iPhone 4 for 2 years and it dropped twice on concrete, never broke. It's glass, it can break if it hits in the right spot. Best bet is to not drop your phone, or use a case. Honestly it's kind of funny how people freak out over the fact that it breaks when they know it's glass. Gorilla glass is strong, but it's still glass!
I read someone say that EVERYONE they knew who had an iPhone 4 had the back break. What a load of ****. My wife has an iPhone 4 and is terrible with phones, her back is fine (although scratched a bit)

I'm not completely ignorant to the fact all glass breaks on the right spot, It's just an idea of how bad and a bit of a warning to make sure people know what to expect more realistically than a guess.
Yes, it is being discussed in this thread

I write this to let go of my anger and also to warn all the happy owners of a Nexus 4.
Yesterday the Gorilla Glass 2 screen of my Nexus suffered serious wounds beeing in my pocket .. only in my pocket.
One would expect that having that technology in the screen never scratch, which made me very angry, but hey, what can we expect from LG?.
I do not want anybody to go through this disappointment, so I recommend buying a screen protector for your Nexus 4.
I attached some pictures

Try retaking the picture in better lighting without flash. I've had a screen protector on mine for a while and ended up taking it off,
maybe you had some sand/particles in your pocket rubbing the glass.

First off, follow the guy above's instructions and take proper pictures.
Secondly, you are an idiot to blame LG for Corning's Gorilla Glass 2 "failing". LG did not manufacture the glass. By your logic, you should blame Apple, Samsung, Motorola, Google, and Aliens for it too.
Third, if you didn't already know that Gorilla Glass is not entirely scratch proof and why screen protectors are necessary, it is your own fault. This has been documented, even on YouTube for those unable to read, and proven as to why it is not really scratch proof like it is advertised.
Do you put the phone in a pocket in jeans with metal studs? You know like the small copper studs that are on jeans. My right pocket has them to attach the pocket, but the left does not. Therefore I only use the left pocket.

Dudes, dudes. take it easy
The important thing for this post is to protect your Nexus.
I know it was my fault, but you know, being angry say many things. I had a Galaxy S i9000, and never had a scratch in a year and a half, expected to be the same with my Nexus.
Stop playing in sand.
Physically it could not have happened unless you had metal studs as someone mentioned, or there was grit in your pockets. It's scratch resistant, not scratch proof. It's physics, nothing more, nothing less.
Has been discussed in most review threads, please post in one of those. Thanks
Beware - WEAK Gorilla Glass! Scratches out of nowhere

I totally agree with you at least I know if I wanted to resell my tl I won't have to worry about describing a scratched screen.
i toyed with the idea of removing mine, but after seeing how the glass is hard to clean after I might leave it on.. stupidly the only scratches mine has endured so far are where i have failed to get the charger in the hole and it has slipped onto the screen. there may have been alcohol involved.

Won't the Xperia Z use Asahi Dragontrail glass?

I feel the same here. Too bad the screen doesn't have that oleophobic coating.

yes xperia Z use Dragontrail glass
I have the Xperia V, but I know that mine also has a screenprotector on it, but I cannot understand why anyone would remove it.
I have also added the Copter protection ontop.
It feels nice, allmost like glass. It also it sensitive like it would be without any protection.

R: Sony Xperia T have pre-Shatterproof screen protector (vid)
I removed the screen protector because it generates too much friction with my thumb. I had to be literally oil-fingered to use it comfortably.
The bare screen is better, letting the oil film form and my thumbs slip better.
Furthermore, no more dust collecting between it and the screen edge.
Having previously had iPhones, and knowing a friend with the Galaxy S2, I didn't even expect the Xperia T to have a screen protector, so I'd ordered my own before I even had the phone.
It wasn't until snooping around XDA forums I found out, after I'd already put one on.
Point being, even if the "stock" protector can scratch, it turns out I have a second protector on top anyway. There is no issues of sensitivity.
I removed mine
I think the shatter-proof thing is tacky, and I am very careful with my phones. I'd rather feel the glass that I paid all that money for! I don't mind breathing on my phone and rubbing it on my shirt every so often.
Take it off, it's nice!
Here's a teardown of the TF701. Basically it's dead simple.
Remove 2 tiny screws. One in each slot for docking.
Pry apart plastic front and aluminium back shell. The only thing holding these together are plastic clips around the edge. And black magic.
Disconnect two cables from screen.
The size of the PCB is tiny. The front is glass, and seperating it from the back can ultimately fracture the LCD or both. There is one warranty void sticker inside.

Thanks for this. Did you do this yourself, or are these pictures from elsewhere?
Interesting that the screen doesn't use Gorilla Glass, as there were some that claimed that it did.
Would it be possible to replace the battery if it became necessary to do so in the future, do you think?
it is glass. maybe gorilla glass, but at least it's scratch resistant.

It is no gorilla glass. The amount of flex it took to seperate from the back frame would have shattered any glass.
The battey (actually batteries, there are two, with the usb flex cable passing through the middle) can be replaced, but will be a b**** to find anywhere.
EDIT: I'm not that sure about the battery. I recall the usb flex cable being embedded in between what seemed two batteries. but looking at the connector on my picture in the first post, it looks like there are three cells. Now that could mean there's one large cell at the bottom and two slightly-smaller-than-half ones on top of that. That would be sick.
Will check tomorrow, as I don't feel like leaving the bed again todayˆˆ

Not forget gorilla glass can flex quite a bit and it looks like plastic by that way but it isn't but it can break when in fabrication too much tension stayed in the glass.
But correct fabricated gorilla 2 or 3 can flex quite a bit.

The zenwatch 3 has a curve in the screen so adding a screen protector
is not a good idea, screen protectors do a good job on flast screens but
on a curved screen it won't be long until you take it off due to the edges
getting messed up in a short period of time.
The gorilla glass 3 is way tougher then any screen protector and the
watch's screen is so small that dropping it accidentally would never
crack or scratch the screen unless you intentionally throw it on the
concrete sidewalk.
Many years ago when there were no smart watches which had the
gorilla glass screen savers were a must have accessory.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Im not worried about dropping it, Im worried about banging it into stuff while I am wearing it.
Here is mine with this (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KZ7VAQA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) on it. Fits well enough and feels glassy enough to satisfy me. I used a Zagg on my moto360 and it was weird because the surface of that was above the watch frame. This Zenwatch is of course inset. I noticed no diminished sensitivity. Only issue is small band from edge that does not adhere.

The DISAGU is rubbish and it's not glass or even some sort of PET film. They're charging $10 for a piece of plastic, I know this thread hasn't see any activity in months. But here this is for people that are looking. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mobVxyGkadc The seller says they have been heat treated to be that flexible.
