I live in China and bought the Hong Kong version of the HTC One 1 month ago, as I didn't want the China Mainland version with all the useless Chinese applications (which I experienced on my Asus Transformer Prime...). Up until 3 days ago, Blinkfeed was working great and updating itself every hour. But suddenly, and without me making any changes to my phone, Blinkfeed stopped working and the only notifications I receive are the Help & Tips from HTC and my Google Calendar notifications. I have it set up using "Global English" as my local content in order to receive international news. But, if I change it to "China" as my local content I get all the updates from different news sources. Only problem is, those sources are all in Chinese... I contacted HTC through their Hong Kong website and unfortunately the guy had no idea what the problem was and said they would send me an email later when they figure it out.
I've tried everything, but nothing works and I get the feeling the international content is simply blocked by China Mobile and other internet providers (I've tried over 3G and several wi-fi, all unsuccessful...). I've also tried with my VPN on, and still nothing. Anyone else has this problem?

I didn't do anything, that's the problem. I went to bed and it was working fine, and when I got up in the morning it had stopped loading all articles.
Whats the name of the blinkfeed app? maybe you could clear data...

I believe the app is HTC News Plugin. I've tried to force stop it, and cleared the data but it didn't do anything. I've basically tried everything I could think of and nothing works. Very frustrating as, unlike many people, I actually really like Blinkfeed. Thanks for your help anyway, let me know if you think of anything else

So I guess the Hong Kong version might be the only one with this problem.
As an update, since my last message the "Global English" option in local content has now disappeared and "China" is now the only option, which is completely useless for me. I spoke to someone at HTC Hong Kong who didn't seem to know anything about this problem and said they would get back to me via email once they've done some tests. This was a week ago and I'm still waiting to hear back from them. I'm hoping perhaps the 4.2.2 update might fix this issue...
I also have the Hong Kong version (801s) and have no issues at all. I also live in China and have the Local Content set to Global English and my Blinkfeed is working fine with feeds from AP, Reuters, Euronews etc.
Which carrier do you use in China? China Mobile or Unicom? Mine is with China Mobile and APN is set to CMNet.

I bought a HD7 from London locked with O2. I used htcimieunlock and unlocked it.
Then i flew back to India and right now with the vodafone network. I can make calls and send text.
But when ever i go to the market place it says "feature not avialable for this region"
While i was in london had 02 card inserted and had tried to access market place and i had got the same message.
Am i a getting this because of a unlocked phone? Or there is genuinely problem with the region.
What do you guys suggest to get this fixed? As of now i cant use my pdf docs or any other softwares.
Also has anyone been able to find a file explorer in market place?
I have an unlocked phone and it's working fine, sounds like there's genuinely a problem with the Marketplace in India.
And there is no File Explorer app.
Thank you for replying.
Are you from london cause i will be there again in 3 days.
In settings is your region/location as United states or united kingdom?
Cause when i was in London last week it said, that i should change my location to US
Hi,
I'm from Birmingham, England's Second City, in the Midlands.
My Region is set to United Kingdom for all options. It shouldn't have said that when you were in London, I know I'm not actually from London but the chances of it varying through the UK are slim to non. The marketplace should work fine in the UK. Maybe there is something wrong with the software on your device?
If your live account is set to india then it will do that to you, no matter where you are in the world.
I'm using the hotmail id since last 5yrs plus. Now for a phone I'll have to change my identity..
I'll be in London on the 9th and I guess I'll findout then.
Has anyone been able to change to a different live id without resetting the device?
i bought my hd7 from london as well.works well in malaysia
Okay i am in London today and on the 3 network.
AND MY MARKET PLACE IS NOT WORKING.
My id is @hotmail.com and is not .in (india)
Wht do u think is going wrong here? Why does it still say not supported in your country/region.
The guy in malaysia....whats ur id...hotmail.com or something else..
While in London i made another live ID.
after making the ID i entered that ID in zune and wallah! i got connected to the market place and culd shop provided my phone had the same ID.
Since i am not game to change my 10year old ID, what i tried was i went to the optons of the newly made id. In the region there i changed it to United kingdon instead of united states which was by default.
I alt/tab to zune and then tried again and now mynew id which a while back could log in cannot log in to market place now.
I went again and made the changes to united states and guess what...IT STILL DOSENT LOG IN
S T A N G E
So i conclude that once u leave the region as united states then i guess you are doomed.
Wanted someone to check on this one
1: If anyone can go in their hotmail options and check their region there? People in UK is your region as united states or UK.
Would apreciate someone trying and letting me know this info
There are many people affected by this problem.u can search it at zune forum.at the moment marketplace only supports 2 place.eu and usa.so for people like us we need to create uk or usa region id to access the marketplace but we can only download trial and free apps.because we do not have usa or uk credit cards.hopefully microsoft will introduce buying apps using points like xbox console can do.and i believe side apps loading will be available.it is just a matter of time.
Hi,
I am writing from Singapore and I got my HD7 last week.
The phone is working great except for the weak batt. However, 1 big issue i face is the navigation app by Telmap/Singtel call Singtel Xplorer will not work! I called Singtel multiple times but they are as blur as me!
I reinstall the app multiple times and hard reset like some others recommend. I can load the app and it went in to the disclaimer. After that it shows No Packages for ever at the Registration page.
SIngtel told me the app is registered under my name and I should get to use it. But i just cannot get pass the Registration page.
Anybody from SG got it to work pls throw me a msg or post here to help!!
I have it running well, but it is still in development mode. All i can see is both the about and screenshot columns. You may wanna bring it back to singtel. If you want pm me your contacts we can go out yumcha and i show it to you. Teas on you of course haha XD
This is a charge service, did you click on "Accept" button?

Same problem earlier on . . .
But get it works after sending down to Tampines Mall Hello Shop, they told me FREE to use for 6 months.
After using for few time decide to abandon it, because very slow, laggy.
Hi to all kind bros!
Finally just got it activated. Apparently, SINGTEL SCREW UP!
they were so confused that they did not activate it for me at all and offered to escalate it to higher support.
I made a total of 6 calls to Singtel to complain before finally I received a notice on my phone that the service is activated!
Now I can use the app but still hoping for a navigation app like iGO8 that do not use data plan.
btw, HD7 rocks!!
Hi all,
I had the same problems for my LG Optimus 7, when it was first launched. I do not know how many times i had to call Singtel to sort the issue out. i was told at least on 2 occasions my package was not registered and they had to do it for me. It didnt work even after they told me to wait for 24-48hrs.
Multiple times they told me their technical staff would contact me. None did. One day, i tried the Xplorer and it finally worked. Couple days later, i recieved an sms from singtel to say they were still working on my issue. They didnt even call me to find out if it was working. Subsequently, about a week after that they called. Straight away i told them it was working.
I find the Xplorer lags tremendously. It also hangs when i zoom in to the maximum and after that i am not able to zoom out. I need to go back to the Home Page. Also frustrating it does not multitask. If for any reason you need to reply to an sms and you leave the Xplorer screen, it need to reload again. Start all from fresh.
I have been trying to find out to whom i could write to about all this issue. No luck. telmap site can never be loaded. So not sure what is the problem or even of their existence. I would not want to waste my time contacting Singtel, cos as a customer, i probably would be made waiting again.
I wonder if this problem is only for the WP7 OS. For other platforms such as the Iphone and Android do they phase similar problems. I think Singtel should provide us some form of means to provide feedback on the Apps they are releasing. of cos we want to see it working well. Soliciting our feedback would help them improve this app.
Hi all sg HD 7 Fans, I also bought HD7 2 days before. But the maps inside the phone was like only street no blk, and while the xplorer have to pay.
Do anyone have other free alternatives for GPS in SG?
I seriously suspecting that Singtel is blocking some functions of the "maps" cause it looks different from the one I see in the Manual (full Version one)
Hey guys, i created this topic as i didn't find one dedicated.
I have an issue with Wifi calling.
I bought a Note 8 from Samsung, so it is unlocked. On my notification screen i have a wifi calling button which is blue (so activated!?) but at the same time grayed out (i cannot interact with it). If i go to Phone app and Settings i do not have any Wifi calling option nor in the system apps as a service. So basically i dont have the wifi calling function and i really need it. My operator is Vodafone Romania and from what intel i gathered googling i called them and ask them to activate it (maybe push something to my phone, like a sms) but they said its got nothing to do with them. They said what i want is a setting in my phone and they only provide services.. so they cant help.
Can anyone advise me for this issue?? Many thanks

I'm no expert at this but I think the solution is to flash the specific SM-950F stock ROM for your operator (you'll need to use ODIN for that) because it will have the localized CSC customization that you are looking for
Settings>Advanced Calling > Wifi calling enabled is an option on my phone
mozell_rowell your phone is unlocked? I do not have this option on my unlocked phone.
I have discovered that the unlocked XEU firmware allows Wifi calling on EE(UK) but doesn't allow VoLTE, for that I needed EE's EVR firmware.
I had set up a new contract for my phone so Wifi calling didn't work for the first few days, causing a bit of confusion.
Anyway, you may be facing similar issues.

I'm on Vodafone UK and bought direct from Samsung and now have wifi calling
There was a threads on UK Vodafone forums about this problem it was not working even for phones direct from Vodafone
The solution is to call tech support at Vodafone and ask them to send the configuration to "update the provisioning" on your handset ... this is not same as mms or web configuration .
Good luck

The setting is hard to find. Go to settings>apps>system apps>WiFi calling and enable it there. If you have Verizon, it will NOT WORK. I learned this the hard way, and had to return my unlocked phone. Supposedly, wifi calling will work with most other services.

I tried that also. Been reading everything i can find on the web about it. Tried many things, unfortunately there is only one place where i have wifi calling (in my notification bar near other buttons but...i cannot interact with the button).
My disappointment is even higher now... I've called Samsung (in my country) asking them if its possible to flash my phone with a Vodafone branded ROM (i know i can do it myself but wanted to see what Samsung has to say in this matter). And...lol...they said they do not flash roms on request...lol. I think not many people know about wifi calling in my country. It looks its up to me to solve the issue but... naturally I'm nervous about it because i dont want to lose my guaranty.
From what i learned its only a matter of flashing a CSC from a branded ROM. Unfortunately i haven't flashed anything for 4 years now.... i am scared...and not afraid to admit it I did pay for this phone a lot of money

I am in the same boat as you, I live in NYC got an unlock phone thinking i'll get by with the HOTSPOT. But it doesn't work and I have no WIFI calling and no CAlling PLUS (sprint)
and would like to flash it to the stock ROM, so I don't have to go trough the procedure of returning this phone and getting a Carrier version.
Let me know how you make out. I can't find anything on youtube about this
I got probably a solution for some. You can install shorcut master (lite) from Play Store. Go to apps explorer and search for IMS settings scroll down to last one imssettingslauncheractivity and launc it; then you have to switch all those toggles to on under ims service switch. Restart phone...and for some now all those services will work including volte and wifi calling.

I agree fully with @pigglett post above. (last Paragraph.) ......
................
" The solution is to call tech support at Vodafone and ask them to send the configuration to "update the provisioning" on your handset ... this is not same as mms or web configuration ."
....................
I noted that you already did this.(speak to service provider)
Wifi calling,
however depends firstly,
if you phone
and Rom support this (yes... your phone should ? )
Then it depends on your service provider..!
to activate wifi calling. (even though you might see
relevant wifi button etc in settings)
I am with service provider Vodacom ( @ Vodafone)
Above, is the procedure i had to follow.
I have volte , and wifi calling enabled on my device.
I also tried all sorts of shortcuts /options.
No luck
I would advise you to speak to
someone in senior management (technical section) Otherwise you wasting your time.
Good luck
I have just come off a web chat with Samsnug Uk and the Samsung representative confirmed that their engineers have now confirmed wifi calling is disabled on UK handsets until they are happy that it's working ok, I had spoken with Vodafone prior to the call today who have enabled the function numerous times on my account but to no avail The Samsung representative said they would release an update for NUgget once they were happy it was working ok. I asked for a timeline and was told that information was unavailable.....

The majority of my calls are wifi, including several over the past day or two. I would be surprised if Samsung intervened in the manner described without attracting a significant measure of publicity.
The issue is Vodafone Romania does not support WI-Fi calling. The only networks in Romania supporting such feature are Digi Mobil (https://www.rcs-rds.ro/volte-vowifi) and Orange (https://www.orange.ro/tehnologii/apel-wifi/). I have the same unlocked dual sim Note 8 (pre-ordered form Altex) and am with the same carrier (Vodafone Romania). I enquired with them about the feature and their consultant told me that such feature is not yet supported. Moreover I inserted my wife's Digi Mobil SIM into the phone and it works unexpectedly well, the option in the notification panel became accessible and was able to use Wi-Fi calling. I know this is not exactly the response you were hoping for but unfortunately, at least for now, it seems we have to live with it.
Cheers!
I don't think you'll be able to enable it until the phone can detect that your provider is actually offering wifi calling as a service

Greetings everyone!
Yesterday I have finally purchased this awesome device (Mi 8) and one of my most desired feature was the face unlock. After I unboxed the package, I have sadly seen that there is no such option in the settings. After a few-minute research I have found out that face unlock is only available in a few countries (China, Russia, Indonesia, India AFAIK), which is a really dumb thing imho. (I mean, the expensive hardware is literally inside the device for nothing). So I have changed my region to Indonesia and voilá, the face unlock setting appeared in my settings (with a few extra apps as well. well at least I can download themes too). Long story short, I have browsed everything, including Play Store, websites through Chrome, etc but couldn't find any aspect where the region setting would change anything at all. No Indonesian content at all (except for 1-2 Mi apps, which I literally never use). Could anyone tell me how region setting affect my phone? I couldn't find a single answer anywhere.
Also, as far as I know some Mi services are unavailable in the EU since the GDPR regulation (Themes store, etc.). Did the company disable the face unlock for the same reason? Are there any information whether these apps + face unlock will ever be available here, in Europe?
Thanks for reading through my little tale and thanks for answering as well. Have a nice day! Mi Community rulez! :highfive:
I Think app like netflix and anything like netflix will be affected based on region... Using Indonesia region you will get content on netflix but specially for Indonesia viewer....
Hey, I just bought Xiaomi Pocophone and I'm facing the same issue, so I set my region to India and I'm looking for the same answer. Do you have any new info regarding the region settings affecting something on your device, coda00?

Hello!
As far as I konw face unlock will be available in an uncertain time (at least that's the rumour, which I don't really believe), but I have found the perfect solution. The custom ROM called Xiaomi.eu offers the same MIUI system as the stock one, it has the same update schedule and there are no ads, or hindi/chinese content. You can also use face unlock with whatever region you want to use, since the base ROM is chinese and the ROM is hardcoded to a given region (probably Poland, but it won't affect the usage). Hope this helps. First I really didn't want to unlock my device, but boy it really does worth it for Xiaomi.eu.
EDIT: Sorry, I just realized I did not really answer your question @ShafiX94 was right, region affects some applications content, but most applications use GPS location instead of region setting, so it does not really affects usage. Instead of Xiaomi services of course, so on stock MIUI you'll see Indian content in Music player, Mi Video, Browser, etc. So every Xiaomi app ad will be hindi.
Wow, thanks . But that would mean losing my warranty, wouldn't it?

Well, theoretically yes. Technically, not really. You can relock the phone anytime after unlocking. It takes about 10 minutes. It is easily manageable to reverse the phone to its factory state in no time and even the service can't tell if you have ever unlocked or not. Also, they really don't care about software when it comes to hardware faults. And if it comes to software fault: well, as one of my phone repair worker friend would say: there is no software issue that couldn't be fixed at home.

Haha, okay, I'll try! I was scared because last time when I unlocked my HTC I was not able to relock it! Köszönöm.
I've been messing with the Region settings and found they affect all kinds of stuff.
WIFI - if you set region to Indonesia you no longer get 5G WIFI networks
Sound/Volume - as already mentioned gets set to lower max volume in EU countries
Face Unlock - Option is not available if you set your region to USA
Application - Different applications get hidden or displayed based on region
Themes - Get the message that themes aren't available when region is set to EU
What else did I miss?

Wow. Nice little research. I wonder why these infos can't be found anywhere. Thanks for the update. The face unlock and application part was clear but I didn't know about WiFi. Nevertheless, Xiaomi.eu is a way to go
Hi all,
I have tried so far two brand new Pixel 7s. I am from Slovakia (unsupported country), moved from Pixel 6 to Pixel 7.
Once I get the phone, it runs on TD1A.220804.009.A2
It offers me straight away December update. When I accept, phone restarts and then I cant receive phone calls, time to time people try to call me but my phone behaves like its turned off.
I have returned the PIXEL 7 and got a new one. Now I didnt accept December update, and thinngs are OK. Anyone having the same issues?
I have turned off now automatic updates via developer options and trying to survive without December update
As long as the version you have has the one huge hole in Android 12 patched you should do fine without updates. This N10+ in my hand hasn't been updated for 3 years. Current load is almost 2.5 yo. Security simply isn't an issue in its current configuration.
Updates/upgrades can and do break things. Just don't do stupid things; almost all malware is installed or downloaded by the user.

I'm also from Slovakia, I use dualsim - Telekom + Orange (esim) and I don't have any problems. Try asking the operator for a new Sim

I also returned my first one. Also a problem with the fingerprint and the signal. But at the same time I requested a new sim card from the operator.

You live in an unsupported country too, without VoLTE and 3G towers around You, You won't be able to use the Pixel 7 as a phone. You have to root and install VoLTE fix or unlock the bootloader and use the Cleanslate kernel.

Thats Good to know I have already returned the Pixel 7, but retailers should know this I guess, otherwise they will have plenty of returned phones.

Yes, they should know, but they don't care (?). Just look at Alza.sk (or .cz, .hu): you can buy Pixel with 5G support. These countries are unsupported by Google, so officially the 5G network can't be used... As a Vodafone user in Hungary, I had to root the phone and install VoLTE fix; in this part of the country where I live 3G network is shut down, I was unable to make phone calls. Just Telekom users can make phone calls without issues (they have VoLTE enabled but not 5G); where the other carriers have 3G, the phone is usable (at least, now).
